Subject: TORAAD, Grim Determination

Gazing at the horde of goblins that stood between him and the halflings Toraad's stomach churned.

He hated the green-skined bastards with a burning passion. The were a plague to his people, disrupting traderoutes, hindering mining and stonework projects, slaughtering decent folk to nest within the pre-made tunnels like vermin.

But this was not the home of the Dwarves. These goblins were presumably not like the tunnel dwellers of his past. A horde of such a size would simply be successive waves of green-skins within a tunnel, funnelling to their deaths at the hands of stout Dwarven warriors. Dwarves armed with sturdy dwarven equipment, an impenetrable resolve, and the divine will of Steel.

No, this was not the traditional encounter with goblins of his past, of the stories of his forefathers; He was not a cleric assigned to a squad of dwarven warrior.

This was an open forest. His companions were few, and his enemies many. There were captives at risk, a job to do.

By Steel, Toraad refused to fail again.

Danamar disrupted his thoughts:

"I will go around quietly to take a closer look at the other side of the wagon. Let us meet here in a short while."

Toraad nodded, though his gaze was still fixed upon the horde. As his companions began to seek answers by scouting Toraad remained behind; he was not stealthy, and knew his armour would jepordize the situation.

No, the Dwarven Cleric would wait until his companions returned with their plan, all the while preparing his own.

Dropping his pack next to a tree he retrieved his whetstone and began sharpening the points of the few javelins he had brought with him.

Staring at the horde as he worked Toraad built up his resolve.

They would save the halflings.

He would ensure the saftey of his companions, no matter how many goblins got in his way.

By Steel, he would not fail again.

I have a question.

Would it be possible to use the class kits from the Complete Fighter's handbook?

The laser activated and dropped Artie to the floor.

Steam blinked, and accepted the exchange as the Computer's wisdom. Obviously, Friend Computer found Artie's slow, passiveness to be breaking protocol and had rightly decided to express how such a breach in proper behaviour would be dealt with.

Blowz bolted to the control panel where Steam stood and pounded upon it until the door open. Such disrespect for the Computer's equipment!

The laser pivoted and a second beam struck Bright, whom Steam had noticed to not speak or act since their briefing. In fact the clone seemed to have mindlessly followed the team here, only realizing her surroundings when Friend Computer decided to punish her. A grazing shot; she could still move.

Slipp ran to the exit but pivoted as he seemed to remember his duties. Once again speaking as if he was subtly usurping control, and throwing the word traitor around as quickly as he could. Something was not quite right there. Notes needed to be made, but now was not the time.

Steam moved to assist Slipp in reclaiming Artie from his pron position on the ground, trusting the Computer's judgement and keeping a close eye on the two clones.

Blowz' words grated on Steam's happiness. What was with the R's? And was that a C? There wasn't a 'c' in 'alright' or 'friends'! Perhaps there was a mishap in the communication officer's brain, a chemical imbalance; or worse still a mutation! Further monitoring of the situation would surely lead to the truth; but perhaps there could be a way to expose Blowz for what he was.

The team moved out, and in an orderly manner. This was much better than the initial condition of the group.

Passing the first blast door they entered a small room with another blast door on the other side, and a cannon above. The situation was simple and protocol was clear for a team of Red clearance. The was only ONE button.

Slipp spoke up again before Artie could act; perhaps he would initiate a power struggle, for he seemed surprisingly to the point, though cautious enough as to not impeach menacingly upon the team leader's authority.

So much to note, but so little time; Steam smiled. He was happy to be busy. Now was his turn to act.

Walking directly up to the Red button Steam turned and gave a curtly nod to Artie, purposely ignoring Slipp's gaze.

"Team Leader. As Equipment Control Officer, allow me to open the blast door."

Steam waits for a nod from Artie before pressing the button, mostly to ensure Artie is aware of the situation. Considering the passive nature of the team leader, Steam theorized an early conflict could arise; if Artie continued to impede the actions of the team he would need to be replaced.

Thanks Hammer.

Okay guys, Danamar is certainly capable of scouting ahead.
And Cal certainly has the means to aid in our spying.

Sneaking is a tad out of Toraads skillset, and dogma for that matter. And lets not forget the self-placed weight on his shoulders at the moment (previous post)...

Thoughts?

Welcome to the Inn. Seems you've chosen an interesting time to come.

Since the welcome wagon appears to be distracted, allow me to refer you to Pit F(r)iend's Guide to Newcomers

Also, *hands you a towel*. This is a standard Newcomer item. Consider it starting equipment. It'll become clear soon enough.

Additionally, a few other matters:

Do NOT feed the Grugg.
Do NOT feel the need to ignore the previous warning.
and
well,
just ...
Do NOT feed the Grugg.

Simply a safety precaution for newbies, you understand, roll with it.

Now that I've clearly identified myself as some sort of dull rulesy guy, I should probably stop rambling....

*coughs awkwardly*

Welcome again.

We also have a few spell options available to us.

Specifically, the spells invisibility (Sir Cal) and Sanctuary (Toraad) come to mind.

The first could help in positioning, or even in assisting Danamar and/or Rex reach the halflings undetected.

Especially if a knight and a dwarf go about creating a ruckus. Sanctuary could offer temporary protection to the cleric amidst the Goblins should he get overwhelmed, or the pin cushion scenario is realized (provided he can get the spell off). Now there is the question of mobility to consider as well. I can double my speed by ditching my armour; and shield of faith could aid offer some means of protection (I'd be AC 15 after the spell rather than 17 I have now, i think)...hmm

Thoughts and theories?

This situation is delicate if we mean to ensure the safety of the halflings.

Although Toraad must correct his earlier errors, and Steel calls for the end of all enemies engaged....

Artie was in charge.

Artie.

From what he knew of Artie, Steam had reservations, but he nonetheless trusted in the judgement of the Computer. In its simplest, this decision could have been made to test the clone and his reactions to the situations at hand. Further still, it could be a test to see if ambitious clones would seek to challange the new team leader's authority. It would interesting to observe, so long as order was maintained.

"Get to Section 168 of Sector SWR, out the door and take a left. NOW. Thank you for your cooperation."

The directions were clear; move from the unsecure location, as in the cafeteria where Dweebs still lingered (a strike against the clone Steam would remember to note later), to a secure location for debriefing.

As Team MAO-17859 Dot R-2 began to prepare fo departure, there were distinct kinks that grated on Steam's happiness; notes to be made later.

"Come my frrriends! Let's head to this Section 168!"

Steam could only blink at Blowz. Between the clone's sudden butchering of the word 'friends' and his non-standard headgear, Steam did not know where to start. But, at least Blowz waited for the others

"We've been given a direct order. Let's go. There will time to address the hygiene issues rampant in this group later."

Slipp appeared eagar to get moving. Duly noted, was the fact that it appeared as if he was trying to lead, despite his assigned position.

What truly bothered Steam the most was the actions of Ammpe. No sooner had the clone recieved the order for the TEAM to move out that she had spun about and headed off on her way; no consideration of protocol, no regard for maintaining the structure of the team unit. While Ammpe surely thought that immediate obedience of the order was key, the order was for the group; abandonment of the group could be a sign of a discipline problem, one that could put their missions and the happiness of the citizens in jepordy. Truly interesting behaviour of the Loyalty Officer.

Steam nods to Artie in acknowledgement of his authority. "Team Leader."

The clone had a chance to prove himself, but Steam would be keeping a close eye on his actions.

Steam moves out when the rest of the troubleshooters are ready.

We'd likely have to be closer to see what the goblins are armed with; we don't need anyone shot full of goblin arrows or the like while trying to lure them away from the halflings.

"They are getting away with sacks on their backs!"

Revlan gave a quick glimspe back over his shoulder at his companions.

"Well come on," He snorted "we can't lose them now!"

Without much further thought the Cidal was through the opening and darting off in the direction of the men he'd seen, not even taking the time to draw forth a weapon.

There was a task at hand; don't lose them.

Revlan figured he could do that easy enough, even with the dim light of the odd caverous tunnel.

So.... you all are aware that I must, instinctively, run down the hallway after our marks, yes?

Just a reminder.

I have weapons, although I should double check my exact gear list before I choose what to draw in the dark tunnel (I do believe I'm the last to draw a weapon, save maybe the druid, aha, and I'm the fighter); the point is, it wouldn't hurt if I scouted ahead.

Any thoughts before I spin up a post?
