...a bit later this evening.

Should have everything up to the arrival at the dock up tonight; then ready for interactions during the voyage, and a discussion of our initial findings.

"It's still not working Guetis!" The youth was pacing back and forth in the sitting room beyond the storefront, its walls lined with shelves books, vials, and other oddities. His agitation and impatience rising was with each passing glance at the older gentleman who was pouring over texts at a desk across the room, whom seemed not to pay him any mind. "Neither did the last one, nor the one before that! I thought bringing her here world put an end to this, not put her through one trial after another; you still don't even know what's wrong!"

The resounding slam of a book indicated that he'd struck a nerve. Guetis turned about to face the youth, the ire in the his's expression intensified by the sudden glare of light cast by his glasses. " Jaufre, if you are going to insist upon your persistent badgering I'd think you'd at least a mind to keep your voice down; the walls are thin, and she requires rest as much as I require concentration. I'm doing all I can; your fath..."

The chiming of the bell at the entrance cut off Guetis' cold remark, and the old herbalist left the sentence broken to tend to the customer. He didn't need to finish it however; Jaurfre knew the rest. Your father would not approve of such vicious remarks But Jaufre's father was no longer with them, nor was his mother, and a pang of guilt stabbed through him at the reminder; he was being inconsiderate of his host.

For years he and his sister Gale had survived together in their ancestral home in Detmold, a small estate that had been passed down for generations. There they had depended upon each other to keep the estate, and worked hard to maintain the name of the Vanvoie family within the community; even the lose of their parents would not diminish the kindness and generosity they showed. Jaufre spent some of his time in continued training amongst the Paladins whom served Cedrus, as a way to further brighten his home, while Gale maintained her passion of books and study, often trading with both old family friends and scholars throughout Aachen. In this way they were happy, carefree, and content with their way in the world. And for a time this was enough.

But this affliction which now plagued his dear sister put an end to it all; a weakness that had her bed-ridden, and but a shadow of her former self. Jaufre had tried to call upon the divine grace of Cedrus to restore her health, but it was to no avail. Nor was her condition remedied with the assistance of fellow members of his order, or other priests. Friends and experts had been summoned from the City of Cam to attempt to aid Gale, but none could account for what was happening to her; and Jaufre had emptied his family's coffers to provide the resources each thought would help. A glimmer of home had arrived in the form of a concerned letter from Guetis, an old friend of their father's. As Guetis resided in Heristat, a town which enabled him more access to reagents and to his entire lore collection, Jaufre opted to move himself and his sister, selling the estate and paying for a well protected caravan to transport them. Two years have since passed and Guetis stilled played host to the siblings; as of yet only finding ways to temporarily relieve some of Gale's symptoms. The more recent reagents had been a costly acquisition, though not as much as the ones still incoming by ship; Jaufre had seen the last of his coin from Detmold to ensure their arrival, and his heart sank at the prospect that these still would not be enough.

"Calmed down have you?" Guetis had returned, a small smirk upon his lips that spoke both with sincerity and sarcasm. "Honestly boy you must keep hope. If you lack the faith that we can succeed, she'll know; she's as keen as your mother at reading people through their eyes."

Jaufre sighed. The old man was right. "I just feel like there must be more that I can do"

Guetis's smirk widened. "If that's right, how about you go fetch the newest reagents? The ship was just spotted pulling into the docks. "

No sooner had Guetis' request left his lips than Jaufre had set out to gather the shipment; he determined to find a way to save Gale, and with luck this errand would be it. Moments later Jaufre had been relieved to find the shipment intact; some of the previous deliveries had brought in damaged crates or unusable reagents. He travelled with great care to ensure his package didn't come to harm amidst the crowds of the dockyards, pausing only long enough to examine a parchment nailed to a post. A call for adventurers with a promise of coin; perhaps this was the something more he could do.

Jaufre listened to Mad Dog Muldoon with an eager vigour hidden behind a stern demeanour. If the man spoke true he would then have found a way to ensure Guetis could continue his attempts to cure Gale, for the coins promised could buy her more time. Guetis had been utterly against his idea to venture to the Toothless Dragon, and Jaufre's persistence resulted in the alchemist citing that the men of the Vanvoie family were clearly wool-headed fools full of stubbornness and impatience. Guetis had then begun a rambling tale of his and Jaufre's father's youth while reading a tome, during which time Jaufre slipped out of the store; when the man completed his story and looked away from the volume, he could do nothing but roll his eyes. Still, now that Jaufre had committed to going on this adventure Guetis would have to see reason, and perhaps identify locations on the map that Jaufre might retrieve some additional herbs and reagents not native to Aachen. It then occurred to him that he now had a very short time to explain to Gale that he'd be leaving her side; a thought which then filled him with remorse. With his heart suddenly in his stomach, Jaufre spoke little and paid those around him little mind. After it seemed settled that the initial course would be for Tagea, he departed for home.

There would be much to discuss in the days to come.

I've got most of my intro post worked out in a notebook as well. I apologize for the delay, but I had convocation festivities with my family yesterday.

Should have something up soon.

Tagea would seem to make the most sense. It is the closest, though it is important to point out it is also a nation in itself (via the map), which may not appreciate treasure hunters from Aachen taking its hidden wealth away.

There are several other nearby islands, but I don't think we want to get caught up going too far south, considering how far north the Broken Fingers are.

It also seems we have the ruins of an ancient bridge to navigate before we get there, which could house both hidden treasure and danger in its shadow.

I'm happy to sail wherever, so lets get some more input

Very much enjoyed how the last adventure wrapped up.

Also enjoyed the intro Ody, good read.

I've hit a few delays, and am being nit-picky with my post, but I assure you it will be up soon.

Stardate 2368.07.08
USS Discovery, Lieutenant Zavaleta's Quarters - 1800

A low, garbled moan drifted through the otherwise dead silence of the Chief Flight Control Officer's quarters as Raphael began to reawaken. His mind bogged as consciousness returned, he sluggishly shifted his weight in an attempt to prop himself up. only to overshoot and pitch sideways toward the bedside table, knocking over a saucer. The resultant din of the glass tea cup and plate spinning on the floor bore through Raphael's head like a plasma cutter.

Zergatik...

From his past experiences, these grievances (the sluggishness, the sound sensitivity, the sensation that one had been unaware of his surroundings for weeks) were normal side effects of the sleep aide which he'd been taking whenever his insomnia got the best of him. Each previous experience also brought Raphael to the conclusion that he despised resorting to the aide, as these initial effects were worse than any hangover he'd ever endured; thankfully it also dissipated much quicker. Still, he was thankful that use of the aide had ensured one thing; he did not dream. As such he was not visited by the image of some sort of spectral-angelic woman; a blessing, considering the alarming frequency of such images in the morning.

Allowing himself the time to recuperate, Raphael realized, upon looking to a clock, that he'd overslept, something difficult to control regarding the induced sleep he'd endured. Cursing under his breath he hastily prepared for his few remaining duties; he still needed to get full accounts from his staff to report to the captain.

After tracking down his staff, and avoiding unnecessary conversations with those who may have been concerned about him being up and about, Raphael had to deal with providing an analysis of their reactions.

The inexperienced Ensign Thorn had performed impressively well under such a stressful situation, and with minimal aid, considering the time it took Lieutenant Scofield to arrive, and his own unknown whereabouts. The only thing that bothered the CFCO about it was he didn't want to overstress Thorn, as the young pilot could sometimes get over-excited under pressure, which led to sloppiness in the flight simulations.

Lieutenant Scofield's temper had been less than professional, considering her rather slurred account after Raphael had been revived in the hanger. Her sober account had been considerably more civil, but still hinted at hidden displeasure at the rouse. In as much, Raphael surmised that she did not share his appreciation to the use of simulations for training. Ideally though, her temper would subside and she'd see its value; such events were very beneficial for ship-wide preparedness.

His remaining staff, Lieutenant Foxwell and Ensign Dotalsi had been off-shift and furthest from the command deck, resulting in their participation in other emergency preparations, as both ready to pilot shuttles in case of evacuation, or report to the bridge if required (though such a feat would have been difficult in a real event). Still, an appropriate response to the situation as far as Raphael could see.

Additionally, Raphael included a secondary copy of his modified schedule of the Conn, and noted his thankfulness for the attentive actions of Lieutenant Kampf and Lieutenant Commander Synklar in both locating him and preventing any more severe injuries from occurring.

Satisfied with his report, Raphael left his quarters to locate Captain Blair, wondering if he should additionally request allowances to work in the slower paced Stellar Cartography lab until he was fit to resume duties. However, whether he made such a request would depend upon the mood of the Captain when Raphael found him.

Heya,

I'd like to apologize for the disappearing act; Uni got rather heavy-handed.

On the plus side I should have successfully finished my BEng with the end of my exams, as I met alll the other requirements.

Been busy with meetings and discussions regarding a Master's degree since; ideally everything but funding is worked out (would'nt you know it) and I've a seminar to attend this afternoon related to my prospective field.

I should be able to resume posting as of tomorrow, or at the very least I'll get my (let's admit it) long overdue posts up.

Cheers friends,

Okay, so things went hay-wire on me.
Had a ceremony I had to attend, follwed by three large reports and an examination.
I've got another exam tomorrw, but then a strecth until the next one so I'll be able to finally get my post in this week.

I sincerely apologize for the dissappearing act; time has been hard-pressed to make deadlines, but this up-coming freedom is exciting.

Stardate 2368.07.08
USS Discovery, Lieutenant Zavaleta's Quarters - 0700

Despite his head in the cloud nature Raphael never remembered his dreams, a fact which allowed him little comfort after his rest.
Awakening to a world twisted by dizziness, the CFCO sighed heavily as he tried to rectify his awareness of his surroundings.
He closed his eyes tight and tried to stop the room from shifting in and out of focus.
Staring at the back of his eyelids he allowed his mind to wander, to float back to the last scene he'd seen in the darkness of unconsciousness.
Raphael remembered feeling lost and alone after hitting his head, of the drifting, and then suddenly of a light in the distance, an angelic form the details of whom just escaped him.
If he never remembered dreams, why then did he remember this delusion?

"Malditos" Raphael cursed, opening his eyes and determined to get up. "The Doc's right; I'm not fit to fly. But I'll be damned if I'm bed ridden."

Propping himself up, Raphael reached for a data pad. It would be best if he had a flight schedule for the next few days set without him; he'd already contacted Dotalsi to cover his Alpha shift this morning.
The last thing he needed was to worsen his condition by straining himself; that and the doc bearing down on him and perhaps amending her diagnosis.

Stardate 2368.07.08
USS Discovery, Observation Lounge - 0800

Raphael had been on time for the meeting, a feat which took more effort than expected.
He gave a silent nod of acknowledgement to the Captain before moving to the side, content to keep things orderly.
The CFCO was not angry over the exercise that had put the crew on edge the night before, if anything he admired the use of the simulation; he used a similar technique on a smaller scale for flight sims with randomized encounters.
However his injury had meant he had missed the whole thing; his only real explanations of what occurred passed on to him by an angry, and partially intoxicated aFCO (whom, Raphael was certain would be soundly sleeping it off by now).
This left Raphael feeling disconcerted, as he was unsure that he'd have anything to contribute beside the accounts of his staff.

As the rest of the staff was entered, Raphael spared each a glance, a simple acknowledgement of their presence.
That is until the chief medical officer entered.
Glancing briefly at Lana, Raphael blanched as he saw the same spectral wings she had had when he awoke in the shuttle bay; a sight he had deemed was his mind playing tricks on him.
He'd not expected to see it again. Looking away, Raphael closed his eyes tight to avoid an awkward double-take, and began to blink his sight back in focus towards the Captain as he began to speak.

He was probably just overtired.

Trying as intently as he could to maintain his attention on the Captain’s speech, Raphael actively avoided looking towards the chief medical officer again.
He remained silent until Blair asked if anyone had anything to ask or add, and produced the data pad.

"Captain, an amended flight schedule during my remediation."

((additional information if needed))

Upon dismissal Raphael hurriedly returned to his quarters; he wanted to sleep, to ease his mind.
He could get Thorn's report and Scofield's sober account during the Beta shift, and then submit his report to the Captain.
