I highly doubt that is what is going to happen.

Still....hope someone can detect poison, just in case.

No telling whether such confections are threatening or not.

“Well Jaufre, If there is anyone else down here we will not find them today.”

His companion's words stung as they echoed the sinking feeling growing inside the Paladin; there was simply no place for anyone to have gone, save into the depths of the still pool of water. But the position of the pool itself seemed somewhat strange, completely surrounded by mud where the stone of the chamber seemed to simply break away. Furthermore there was no indication of footprints in the mud, that he could make out, to express anyone moving through the cavern recently, further lowering his spirits.

“Let’s go back to the group and see what we are to do next. My bet is that we are coming back to get what gold we cannot carry anyway. Maybe some new clue will appear upon returning.”

Alredor's request brought Jaufre out of his musing; their quick search had run its course, and more time spent upon it was daylight wasted in returning to the ship. Still, he took another gaze at the pool as the two returned to their companions, and found Alredor doing the same. It was reassuring that the illusionist was equally bothered by their lack of findings, and Jaufre was beginning to feel that the serenity that the waters had offered when first they arrived was beginning to echo the unwelcome silence of the destroyed town above. It was about time to be leaving.

There seemed to be some argument among the rest of the seekers when Jaufre and Alredor returned. The question of curses or danger for removing the loot, of the expectations of returning with treasure, and of general ambitions darted across the room. Meaningless quips. Jaufre refrained from shaking his head with bemusement when he noticed Crow grinning over the ordeal from his perch, still cautiously staying above the situation, a grin he last saw what seemed like an age ago.

Of note was the fact that amidst the minor turmoil Tohmas was steadfastly attempting to prepare a chest for transport, a task that would require additional aide. It was a small gesture that didn't come close to equalling the healing Tohmas had granted the group before, but Jaufre saw fit to offer his assistance in hauling said chest back to the ship. As the pair be to lift the chest it became clear the task would require both hands and a fair deal of focus; the chest had no clasp so it was vital to keep it level. Slowly but steadily the two began their ascent, with Jaufre, the stronger of the two in back in case Tohmas faltered on the rise.

However it was not their strength that faltered, but their footing. For but a moment they slipped upon loose gold as they traversed the narrow stairs and the chest tilted, resulting in the loss and echoing bounces several coins. Worse still their gnomish companion lost his balance trying to grab the coins, sending more into the cascade, the sound of which filled the chamber. Perhaps worst of all however was the distinct sound of water splashing. With a strained voice the Druid called out:

“We must not stop, that may have awakened whatever had collected this gold and may come to reclaim it. Attack nothing if does not attack you first. We cannot risk starting a fight in this narrow passage”.

With a nod Jaufre heaved the chest up allowing the two to continue their task, now with redoubled effort to ensure their footing was secure. More shouts and confusion ensued as something broke the water's surface behind them, mentions of a dragon disturbed, but Jaufre tried his best to stay concentrated; they were close to the exit, they just had to move a bit further.

The Druid too was not amused with the comments from those behind them. "The bard didn't want to do the job she was hired to do and now she wants to start a useless fight." He grumbled loud enough for only Jaufre to hear "Perhaps it was too many years spent in the academic world and not enough in the real world.......We had better hurry before trouble starts.....Perhaps we will all learn together."

The Paladin attempted to stifle a grunt as he looked up from the chest at the Druid, seeing the concern in the man's eyes; Jaufre had not looked behind him at the situation, lest he accidentally set the chest off balance again in such a motion. He prayed no one was foolish enough to enrage the beast further.

"Aye." Jaufre nodded with a subtle smile breaking his stern demeanour, an attempt at reassuring the man. "We best get out of their way then. Ready?"

My time opens up and.... gosh Hammer.
Guess I better sort out my backpost what quick...

Edit: and now fully considering what the creature can do, and given our ascent up stone steps, I really hope it isnt hungry.

To be clear, Tohmas and Jaufre have cleared Crow's location, or are (essentially) at it?

Is there a clasp which lacks a lock which we could secure with a tied piece of tunic or something?

That would certainly take care of the lack of a lock.

...so I apologize.

I'll assist Ody with the chest.

Depending on the weight, if I can lift my end with one hand then Jaufre will carry the left side of the chest so as to be able to weild his sword in his left hand.

If it requires both, so be it. More time toward inner reflection of the situation than defensive vigilance.

I will back-post to catch up.

Cool, thanks Hammer. Kind of what I expected, but just had to be sure since the treasure stole the scene.

I'll have a post up accordingly; Jaufre will accompany the rest of the seekers back without any complaint.

The "interesting..." always concerns me Hammer... I smell potential for a development...

Just to be clear, Jaufre only intends to examine the limits of the chamber, and identify any passages that may lead beyond. As the others have made the case to depart already, and he does not intend on venturing too far away from the group.

It is best to be certain whether there is a passage in which there could be survivors, as that would/could imply a need to bring medical supplies beyond that needed by the seekers, yada, yada.

...This is also the one time I (as in T_O) am happy to not have heavy armour. Pools of water, no matter how happy sounding, can still drown a Pali... but that's just me being paranoid (I hope...).

Not trying to be a super pain here, but I'm gonna push the issue. If Alredor would allow Jaufre use of his latern (so as to see), I'm sure it would only take him a few moments to ascertain what it is he's looking for (a further passage or lack thereof).

This could likely occur at the same time as the rest of the seekers decide what to do about the treasure, in regards to ody's post above mine here in the QnA (if he means to suggest that course of action in-game).

Cheers,

-T_O

A twang of frustraction welled up in Jaufre's mind. Neither Elyra nor Alredor, two of the seekers who had descended the stairs to the bottom, had answered his question; did the passage carry on? Perhaps they had not thought to look, preoccupied with the presence of the riches. Even still Jaufre could not imagine how such an important detail could not have been made precedent.

Releasing a sigh admist the clang of coins, Jaufre re-strapped his sheild across his back, comepletely freeing his right-hand. The task completed, he spoke once more:

"I concede that we are ill equipped to venture further underground," He paused for a moment, so that the others could be certain of his statement before turning to Alredor. "But, if you could lend me your latern for a moment my friend, there is something I must ascertain before we depart."

He extended his hand, wishful that his companion would comply with his request, else he would be unable to see upon reaching the lower landing. The Paladin wanted to be certain whether or not the passage ventured further, and his own eyes would offer him the best certainty of that.

About 5 skeleton pirates were turned and not destroyed, meaning they could return (provided I did my math correctly). Even with the knowledge of the eyepatches, other dangers could also be lurking outside.

With most of that. Mostly I'm wondering if it was just the one guy who made it down here (our theif, or whatever that 'caused' it), or if the passage goes deeper (map can't/doesn't show that much, plus in character Jaufre can't tell).

Subject: But Wait...

Jaufre found himself straining his eyes trying to see beyond the limitations of the torchlight as the group descended the steps, trying to be wary of any surprises. Yet all seemed calm. Their descent was slow, yet undisturbed, and the sound of the water passing by them offered a small calming aspect to the passage.

Shortly after however, treasure was discovered, as was an ominous note which was read aloud. As several of his companions began to move about the lower portion of the passage, Jaufre moved as far as the second landing where the note had been discoverd, hoping in this way to be able to provide suppot if it was needed, but still safely within visible light.

There was some breif discussion of the parchment, but the splendors of the treasure soon seemed to taken precedence. Amur and Elyra began to investigate the treasure, and soon Alredor was moving down toward the treasure as well, to collect magical trinkets that may come in handy.

Jaufre however had still been pondering about a portion of the note. What had happened to all the people.

"Now I really think we should return to town and report this and not poke around too much more. One thing I learned from the songs I sing; there are bold adventurers and old adventurers but no old, bold adventureres"

"Wait." Finally speaking up, Jaufre spoke sternly and direct. "What of the other parts? Doomed city took refuge river caverns. Does this place go any further? If there are survivors we should seek to aid them. I can only see so much in these conditions; does the passage go beyond here? At the very least we must acertain that much; to do elsewise would be unthinkable."

He had to wonder what had happened to the citizens of Tagea. Had only one soul come to this place, and even then reached some untimely end? There were too many unanswered questions.

Should at least go to the landing which had the parchment; need to stick with the light/ be available to help in a pinch.

Will have a post soon, mostly musing regarding the words I assume were read aloud to the group; or at the very least Mylos could tell Jaufre what it says.

A few of the words kinda stuck out as important....

Also, glad to know things aren't that serious Tann; hope you continue to do well.
