Topic: What Evil Hides in the Hearts of Men...
Subject: Holding down the middle ground.

Rae's words had struck a chord in Danon, he should of known she would be mindful, but nonetheless he held his ground before the readied warriors, his head tilted to the side and a glare that seemed to say 'still, heed my words'. He did not enjoy confronting his own companions, typically trusting in their judgement, but things felt off this night.

When En'Aranthea spoke in agreement to his sentiment, Danon felt a wave of relief; perhaps this foreboding weather was simply putting him on edge. The group heeded the bladesinger's words, which, much to Danon's pleasure, involved putting weapons away until any real threat could be determined, and together they advanced with much caution.

Jarenion, still particularly mindful of the unnatural forces about them, sought to relieve them of some worry through divination. However his findings confirmed their worst fears, for Galardil's initial outburst had been proven true.

As Danon and his companions grew nearer to the shambling travelers, their truly ghoulish nature became visible. Danon's stomach heaved and the bitter taste of vomit edged into his mouth. He forced himself to keep it down, trying to steel himself; he had yet to become accustomed to seeing the dead walk. Where his stomach lurched, his heart felt heavy. Such creatures broke the laws of nature, and were a threat to the well-being of the people Danon swore to aide, but more than that they were a mockery of the deceased; the poor souls deserved rest.

A twig snapped underfoot as they neared, drawing the attention of the undead, previously seeming oblivious to their presence, directly upon them. The sudden maniacal giggling of one of the abominations was bone chilling.

Danon's companions jumped into action, falling into position with seemingly fluid motion.

Hearing Galardil begin a call to Kith-jora for aid in fending off the creatures, Danon determined he had a moment to aid his allies before making a call of his own to the Chancellor of Light, Merca; he kept pace with the warriors.

Hastily reaching into his belt-pouch, Danon retrieved a strip of white cloth, the ends of which he dabbed with resin. The cloth in one hand, and his holy symbol in another, Danon began another sort of call.

"It is our duty to see these souls laid to rest" He spoke aloud, laying a hand upon Rae's shoulder. Danon could tell she was giving the others time to act."May the wisdom of the Chancellor see your blade strike true in fulfillment of this goal"

((OOC: Danon is casting Aid upon Rae, even if it involves moving up into the fray; the chainmail is not just for show.

Otherwise he moves to a middle position between the warriors, and the casters and rogue (assuming Jarenion, Galardil, and Blair are further back).

If more than half of the undead remain unturned after Galardil's call to Kith-jora, Danon will try his own call to Merca (Turn Undead), then ready his mace.

In the case that one of the creature gets past the front line, Danon will move to intercept them to strike with his mace.

In the case where any party member becomes overwhelmed, Danon will move to their defense. If the opportunity arises he will cast CLW to mend their wounds.))

Topic: What Evil Hides in the Hearts of Men...
Subject: Calm Thyselves, Friends

A hollow sigh slipped through Danon Sount's lips as he shifted his shoulders. The weather had soured since evening broke, and the muggy heat that had resulted from the rain was unfortunate; he had so hoped the rain would provide some cool relief from the current trend of the season. Instead he now had to deal with a sweat soaked tunic clinging to both his skin and his chainmail, causing either discomfort via itching or chaffing depending on how he moved. He was sure his companions were just as uncomfortable, but alas there was little he could do at this time to relieve them of this nuisance.

But then, it was just that, a nuisance. Nothing a faithful servant of Merca could not deal with; there was work to be done in Crandel, people to help. and a little poor weather would not delay that.

However despite comforting his resolve, Danon could not help the sensation that all was not well with the thickening mists that seemed to surround them, almost seeming to want to engulf them. Something was not right, and it seemed the others were growing to notice as well.

Jarenion was the first to call attention to the approaching figures, a sight Danon had at first assumed to be like the shadows he never quite fully glimpsed. Soon the others toobegan to speak up theories of the travelers' condition. It was true the approaching forms seemed haggard, perhaps simply exhausted due to a combination of age, hour, and weather. But that in itself fell back to Jarenion's inital point of why anyone would be leaving Crandel at this hour rather than await the break of dawn, and hopefully a break in the rain.

These thought however would have to wait, for another of Danon's companions came to an altogether different conclusion.

"To Arms My Friends! Yon Figures in the Mist May Be Unliving!"

Galardil's sudden outburst put the rest of the group on edge, Ta’Arms and Rae drawing weapons and advancing.

By the Chancellor... Danon could not believe this, the mist must be playing upon his friends' reason.

Hurriedly the Cleric of Merca moved forward, his mace still in it's loop upon his hip, for he saw no need for it yet.

"Stop, my friends," He pleaded, looking to the others for signs of uncertainty in their actions. "We know not for certain the nature of these travelers. They could just be weary, or ill. To advance upon them with weapons drawn could have us mistaken for brigands. We should be looking to help them, not scare or provoke them."

He looked over his shoulded at the slow moving group; did they not notice these actions before them?

((OOC: Danon is trying to cut off Rae and T'Arms in particular (since they have been said to advance), until we are more certain of the nature of the figures))

Subject: From the C&C rulebook I have...

"A druid may use weapons crafted from nature’s raw materials, such as wood, leather, stone and cold-forged metal. Traditionally forged weapons are antithetical to druidism. Some druids prefer to use a weapon identical to that wielded by the deity whom they worship. In war and combat, druids often wield cold-forged pure metal weapons fashioned of beaten iron or copper, but not of beaten steel or bronze.

Likewise, a druid prefers armor crafted from items found in nature, such as leather and wood. They view armors forged by advanced metal-smithing techniques as tainted and impure. These impure items make one dependent upon them and, in consequence, weak."

1 - so does the elf armour fit humans as well or just elves?
2 - can Ziklag really use that wand? I mean it is a divine spell (and therfore magic item) and he is an arcane caster so... yeah...

Subject: Of potions and things...

As far as my preference for free potions go, a good ol' Elixir of Health would be great. Or, if the "cure-all" nature of this potion is a no-go, I'd rather like a half-flask of it that, hopefully, cures poison (and possibly infection).

Will look to have some background posted up later, as Eol did above; as I've just realized I've only really been sending things to Olan.

I will say though that his description of what Danon would likely be doing, and his stance on leadership are exactly what I would have pegged them at, so I'm happy it conveyed well.

I'm sure we'll work the kinks out in no time.

Cheers,

-T_O

Subject: Praise the light.

Oh Lord of Light I beseech thee, may you shine favour upon we meager men. May your light protect us from the will of the ill-intent. Grant unto me the vigil to ensure those in my watch may grow under your watchful gaze

The prayer raced through Jaufre's mind as he hurried past the illusionist and the druid, determined to put himself between harm and the two other men; even if he himself need be the shield.

As the volley of arrows made there way to the ship, Cedrus must have smiled upon them, for each seemed to come short of there mark. What is more, the few deadly arrows that had been on deadly paths now lay suspended by the shield held by his right arm. No one had be harmed.

"Praise the Light"

Cauitiously Jaufre began moving back, eyes still fixed on the other vessel, lest another volley of arrows begin. However he did not expect to see what he did.

A menacing figure emerged upon the deck of the assailing ship, but what would have occurred next would not be known. As if to say that the threats were over for the Treasure Seeker's now, the beaked dragon from the cavern assaulted the pirate vessel. Truly it was a chance occurance, for the beast, in its rage at being robbed had attacked the wrong ship.

Jaufre swallowed hard. He did not think that any man deserved the fate that was befalling the Stomper, nor did he think that the crew or the other seekers would be willing to attempt to save any of their would be assailants and risk damage to the ship at the maw of the beaked dragon.

The Paladin let out a resevered sigh; such matters were complex in life and death situation. He turned to see Tohmas looking at him, while Areldor still seemed taken aback by the whole ordeal.

“Not only are you strong friend, but you are wise. You saw what we did not and your action may well haved saved our lives. Jaufre, you should be called Nemen, He Who Sees. Thank you.”

The Druid's words were reassuring. Jaufre worked up what could be called a smile and nodded in acknowledgement; there was still some good upon these seas.

If you'd like another cleric, with some combat flare, I believe I sent you a character for a previous game... a cleric of Merca...I"m sure I have it tagged in my PM's. Will take a look at that. EDIT: forwarded the old sheet to you; may need to re-roll stats, but the concept remains the same.

Otherwise I could take a look at some other roles.

Just showing interest.

If I was vague in the post, Jaufre intends to try to ensure Areldor's safety by putting himself between the illusionist and danger. I'm hoping the druid was/is sheltered enough at the moment.

Subject: No Rest For the Weary

Jaufre had been relieved to rejoin the Stout Hearts, relieved to unload the treasure he and Tohmas had secured from the cavern creature, and resume a less burdened role. Yet relief was sparing, for no sooner had he and the seekers returned to the Toothless Dragon than trouble reared its vile head.

The oncoming ship, marked with the signs of brigands, was determined to waylay their vessel, and while the Stout Hearts moved with haste to propel the Toothless Dragon away from the pursuers, the winds seemed not in their favor.

It was frustrating for Jaufre, for his inexperience at sea left him ill-equipped to assist the Stout Hearts in operating the vessel, and he had not the power to shift the winds. Luckily, he need not such an ability.

As the Stomper closed in upon the Toothless Dragon, and the small light of flames began to soar into the air from the attacking vessel, the druid Tohmas called upon the wind. In an instance, the unnatural speed with which the Stomper had been pursuing them came to an end, and the arrows seeking the Dragon's hide were caste away. As if to echo Tohmas' defiance of their pursuers, the Toothless Dragon stuck the Stomper causing the enemy ship to begin taking on water, and to take it one step further the illusionist Areldor launched a ball of flame into the brigands' mast.

Maintaining his footing from the impact, and seeing the flames lick across the Stomper, Jaufre now knew what he could do.

With as much haste as he could muster the paladin raced toward the illusionist, shield at the ready, lest an angered pirate seek revenge for the burning destruction with a well placed arrow.
