Goodness the activity, and such a fine read too.
Great job everyone!

I hope to get time to get more up soon, my notes are here and ready. Just readjusting to school life, and I've some paperwork to attend to before I can relax with my posts.

Cheers mates!

Morning all. Just dropping a line to wish everyone a good day.

Tis the day before the first day of classes and the uni decided we, the engineers, needed a ten-hour safety orientation; so off I go, aha. Hopefully it wont all be a whitewash of stuff we've heard before... I think there is a test or something at the end so I'd rather not doze off.

Anyway, rambling.... Have a great day!

Topic: Tales from the Smuggler's Moon
Subject: Prologue: The Witch's Wake (pt. 7.5)

The wind blew delicately across the deck as Khash leaned against the railing, almost losing himself in the beauty of the crystalline waters. The Moon was sailing as magnificently as she ever had, gracefully caressing the waters she passed over. Looking out upon the blue filled him with happiness, it was an everlasting reminder of the freedom he and Jarek dreamt of for so long. He never stopped enjoying that the dream they shared had become a reality; their own ship -well, Jarek's ship, but Khash knew his brother would never abandon him, not after all they'd been through together. Free of the bigotry and corruption they had dredged through in the past, the Moon was their home; no port or hideaway could compare to this feeling of independence. It was times like this, where the ship danced her course so serenely that Khash was at peace, usually sharing the moment with his brother. However, Jarek was nowhere to be seen.

Jarek had been preoccupied with their newest 'passenger' since they had raided the Rapier, but Khash still had reservations over how trusting Jarek could be of this magick user... he hoped the girl hadn't bewitched his kin. The concern he had for his brother were building to the point where he had begun to absent-mindedly drum his fingertips upon the railing, drawing more than a few stares as the intensity quickened and became more fierce. No one came near him to see what was on his mind; it wasn't that he was in a particularly angry mood, but often he'd -forgetting his own strength- leveled crewmen who had startled him. Finally, the tension had built up in him to the point that he realized he was gripping the railing was blanched knuckles; it was time to look for his brother.

He made his way swiftly towards Jarek's private quarters, meeting no resistance as the few shipmates he encountered dodged out of the way after seeing him move at such speed. Even Halfpenny skirted aside quickly chuckling or cursing something about looking where he was going, Khash could never tell with the little quartermaster. It bothered him that his friends could have such fear in their eyes in his passing... though perhaps he was wearing his frustration openly. He paused then to realize he was scowling. He hadn't meant to, but he took his brother's well being seriously. Jarek had always done the same for him.

As he approached the door his ears caught the sound of a raised voice, and he slowed he pace so as to hear the words. "....If you want to live then throw me overboard right now! Death follows in my wake, it always has and it always will. I beg thee... let me go and live!" A lump caught in his throat and he hoped that Jarek was okay, slowly advancing towards the door. An odd noise that gurgled passed through the door, followed by a choking gasp mixed with his brother's chuckling. Minute compared to the last outburst Khash barely caught Jarek's words...“Avast, an’ there be a mighty wind, now". Jarek's response befuddled the sense out of him... what was going on?

Staying where he was Khash was unsure what to do with himself. He considered bashing through the door to save Jarek from the magick witch.... but what if it spooked the girl and she cast some sort of spell at him or his brother... plus he'd owe Jarek a new door. The last time he thought he was saving his brother from a feminine attacker it had not gone as he thought it would.... Jarek had been tied up certainly.... but.... He had gotten quite the earful about decency and privacy that day. The innkeeper had also been less than thrilled at the noise and the destruction of his property despite Khash's noble intentions.

Restraining his urge to check on his brother, the half-orc backed away slowly, taking care to avoid making excessive amounts of noise. As he turned away the door behind him creaked open slightly before slamming shut with a force that echoed. Concern bubbled in Khash's mind, his black eyes narrowing as he peered back over his shoulder. He tried to calm himself, remembering that his brother was a bright one, usually with some plan or understanding of the situation before getting himself mixed up in it. Khash was going to put faith in Jarek, even though this time he was greatly worried about the potential risks; it just seemed like more than they'd brought on before.

The stranger's words washed over his mind as Khash retraced his route to the railing perch he'd previously visited. Frustration had left his face, his brow sagging as it was replaced by worry while he pondered the implications of her ultimatum. A herald of death was not something that sounded like he wanted to play with it; if the girl brought harm to Jarek he'd do good on her wish to be thrown overboard.

Looking out upon the waves again he tried to release his anxieties and fears.... not that any would believe him fearful of much, short of a kraken. He lost himself again recalling his past adventures with his brother. He had a feeling things might get a bit more complicated from here on out.

"How's she fairin' Khash-mate?"

Jarek's voice caught Khash off-guard, causing him to lose his breath in a wispy gasp that he quickly turned into a low rumbling chuckle.

"Savvy Cap'n," He turned to flash his brother a toothy grin, getting one back in return. He seemed optimistic. "She dos ye proud taday; we be quik set fer Freeport." Turning his gaze back to the sea he sighed "Gonna miss dis sight in the nex few daes Jarek. Ain anneethen a betta home."

I jest of course

I am putting up a small prologue extension shortly and will get the rest of my notes together over the next few days... something I ate isn't agreeing with me and I feel light-headed. In particular I have back-story to update, the present post notes are adjustable.

Cheers on the collab posts! I look forward to seeing how they turn out. Since we're sailing/docking/docked, if anyone would like to incorporate actions with the first mate just drop me a line.

Topic: Demon Wind
Subject: Irael

Irael spent the ride in silence. With Tariel's departure, and Daldren's redoubled efforts to scout ahead, he sought to clear his mind of absent thoughts and focus upon on the environment around them. Acting in this manner, as the inner line of awareness, he paid little mind to the attempts of the knight to acquire mission details - something that he would not discuss with strangers unless ordered to. It was not that he was purposefully trying to excluded the man, but he had a hard enough time relating to his own companions, let alone those he just met.

With camp being set the matter of watches needed to be addressed. Looking to his companions from MV6, Irael felt a surge of concern. Surely Mendez was in no shape for watch duties, and Danamar needed to regain his strength. For all his resilience even Daldren had been in close quarters with the dreadful creature they had encountered, and he'd pressed himself all day scouting. This left himself and Tad in the best of shape for extended watch duties- he was not ready to trust the lives of his companions to these strangers yet, despite their previous actions. Right away Daldren offered to take first was - a noble effort from the tiring man, and one that made sense to Irael. The knight- Sebastion?- had offered to take the final watch before dawn, which was fine by Irael; he would be awake and alert by that time. Irael himself offered for third/fourth watch, the 'shift' before the knight's.

He sat within the camp and began to pull out some of his scrolls, still fully clad in his armour. ((If there is no campfire)) An orb of light appeared beside him, reduced in brightness to only really benefit him in his work, and not distract the others from resting. His eyes caught the knight's who appeared to be waiting for everyone to retire. "Rest now" His voice was flat and distant as he reached for a quill from his pack "I've studies to attend to"

((OoC: Ok, so it is short, and not very good, but it is something. If I hadn't been so busy I would have thought this out sooner.

During the 'discussion of watches' (I'm not about to railroad it) Irael would, where appropriate, insist that Mendez rest the entire night, and that Danamar rest just as much, or at least take a reduced watch. Since I didn't have time to reach anyone, I'll out my proposal here. Tad could take a three hour shift after Daldren and the Irael cover from that point on to Seb. I only seek to rest first, as Irael rose before the others in the inn during his self imposed 'guard duty'.

Irael plans to trance half-way into Daldren's watch, (so in an hour) removing his armour but keeping it nearby. If Tad takes a three hour shift, or it is split further, he will awaken from his trance in four hours time (three hours after Daldren goes to rest) and prepare himself to relieve watch where appropriate. When it is appropriate to awaken Seb, Irael will do so, and use the time thereafter to practice martial maneuvers (footwork, bladework, etc.). Tis time to redouble the Duskblade's dedication.

Topic: Smuggler's Moon Cast and Crew
Subject: Khash - First Mate

Name: Khashnagob "Khash" Hawkes

Age: Early thirties- ~five less than Jarek

Appearance: Where many assume Jericho to be a strong built man, looking at Khash often makes onlookers nervous. Standing 6'10'' he has easily shadowed over his brother for many years now, and he's the build and muscles to match (easily around 210 lbs); he's obviously strong, and it is no wonder considering the life the two brothers have shared. Dark, jet-black hair hangs in dreadlocks atop his head, held back from his black eyes with a simple bandana.

Distinguishing Marks: Khash is a storybook of marks, each one a reminder of either the harsh youth or the misadventures he has shared with Jericho; shot, stabbed, and bruised on multiple occasions he continues to be in good health. Most noticeable are the cuts along his arms from the many attempts at warding off enemies with his fists, and the missing tip to his left ear that offsets the hooped earring on the tip of the right.

Attire: Tending for style similar to his older brother, but without the finesse. Khash is often seen in simple coloured breeches, most typically a dark brown (and torn in places), which tuck into dark black boots. He often has a simple grey shirt on, again in similar design to Jericho's, but with the sleeves rolled up (if they are still there); whether or not he tucks it into his flat-black belt is anyone's guess. He has a sturdy leather vest he wears on occasion, and an old cloak for times when it isn't the best to be seen.

Possessions: Nothing matter's more to Khash than his brother; aside from Jarek he doesn't really need anything else. He does have a few signature items however. A black dagger sits tucked into the left of his belt for utility- and when he needs to throw something sharp. A heavy, well-used, mace hangs from a simple loop at his right hip, the flanges a darkened metal and the grip scarlet leather. More than one foe has died with a dumbstruck expression on his face when Khash brought his favorite weapon to a blade-fight.

History: ((Fer da basics ref'r ta da cap'n))

Matrim almost chuckled as the woman was cut off by the quick actions of the barkeep. Within a matter of moments there was a document before them and his new-found companion was already signing her name. He nodded to the dragonborn as he spoke, hearing the instructions as he fished two gold coins from his small belt pouch. The writing instrument was thrust towards him before he even had a chance to bring them to the counter, and before the man had finished talking for that matter, a near-whispered 'thank you' escaping her lips. Matrim had that amused 'things happening for a reason' feeling again; this would be most interesting. Placing the coins upon the tabletop he quickly, but neatly, signed his name upon the scroll.

"Many thanks, friend" He spoke again to the barkeep, the young woman was just finishing counting out her coins "The day is young, and I believe we're ready to go." Seeing his companion was ready he nodded once more to the dragonborn. "Good fortune be with you."

Not the typical parting words I'd use. he mused but then, I'm not sure who might be watching The afterthought bothered him but he shook it away. There would be no links to his orders by traveling with a stranger, but then he didn't wish to get her involved in any incidents that might occur because of him; he knew too well that it was up fate, and he was not about to question the will of his mistress.

Looking to the woman he smiled, bowing slightly as he spoke up. "Matrim Ferr, at your service miss. Now then, let us set out. I'm sure we've both a busy day ahead of us."

At that he began to head towards the yard where the two of them would ascend to the offices and arrange their transport. The nagging thought that he could have inquired about the expedition bothered him, but he had already set his course.

Subject: Irael....

A smirk broke Irael's grim visage as he assisted Mendez down the stairs and into a chair in the common room. The shock, and near-death experience seemed to knock the fear right out of the foolish mage, and set him right back to his typical flamboyant self. Pity Irael thought to himself, stifling a chuckle. I was starting to like the serious side of him. . He should have known it wouldn't last.

After getting Mendez situated he set out with Daldren and Danamar to investigate the back rooms and the grounds. There was little they could do about those they found in the back; the foul creature had already drained the life from them. Outside the stable-lad had slept through the whole ordeal, and the mounts were intact as well. He knew not what to tell the boy and left it to Danamar's judgement.

Returning inside they encountered the knight, again with a mug in his hand. Expression left Irael's face as he resisted becoming infuriated with the man; such disrespect for those who had just died! “I guess this is our place now right? After all who is going to object.”. Joke or not, he was unimpressed.

Rejoining the others, he noticed Tariel was no longer among them, which concerned him; Tad held a slip of paper in his hands. He stood silently listening to the others converse, his gaze shifting from each of them. He did not trust the strangers in their midst, but then he had no real reason to suspect them as a threat. He awaited word on what they would do next.

Matrim absent-mindedly listened to the exchange at the bar as he looked about the inn. The other patrons were each set in their own tasks, keeping to themselves. Matrim waited patiently- he had time.

"A bit early in the day for a drink, good sir? Or do you wish to hire transport?"

Matrim nodded to the dragonborn as he moved forward, the woman side-stepping to let him through -he was almost certain she gave him an appraising look. "Aye, transport. I seek to make pilgrimage to the Great Library. And the sooner I depart the better..." He paused for a moment, turning his gaze back to the woman who had moved. He wasn't entirely sure what her goal was, but perhaps his mistress was lining things up again. He began to speak again as his gaze shifted back to the barkeep "...now I ask pardon of both of you as I did not mean to eavesdrop on your discussion, but I believe the young lady is headed in my direction. If it would be faster for us to travel together across the city then I see no problem in covering the extra cost of her trip. At least then we would all be satisfied in this exchange." He shrugged then, an attempt to make it clear he was merely trying to be helpful. "If there is any objection to such a course of action..." He trailed off with a slight grin on his face, allowing the others to respond.

Stopping a few feet away, the eccentric looking half elf looked the prisoner up and down and chuckled.

"So, you wish to parlay? From what I know that only worked with pirates and privateers, but I'll see to what you want. From the looks of it you bested my four men who I sent out after that pretty dark haired girl. Also from your looks, your either a very skilled man who can slay many, or you had help. Either way, I rather not fight in either circumstance. So I'll entertain you for now as today was boring, please put that useless thing down, he's done no good for me today and he's gotten more than he has deserved just by living through your little fight."

He turned to move away, and quickly turned around again smiling at Basyl, "Oh, please follow me, I'd like to take these talks into my private quarters, it is chilly out here and I was about to retire." He turned again to wait for Basyl's response, as behind him the four figures started to move back into their tents.

The appearance of the half-elf was not what Basyl expected from the haphazard group of bandits... something didn't seem to add up; then again the war, and its end, had brought together all kinds of unlikely companions - his own group included. His cold-hearted chuckle had set Basyl on edge, mixed with the complete disregard for the captive it did nothing to set his mind at ease. The itching in his legs grew as the man continued; he could feel all eyes on him.

The exchange had failed before it could be brought up; it was up to Basyl to buy time now. The man began to turn away, then turned back quickly and invited him deeper in, but a glimmer of motion caught Basyl's eye. He had a bad feeling about this, and his eyes traced a line from the other bandits to their leader, and his rapier.

"Aye. Let us leave this chill and relax some; this night has been filled with disruption" He made a face of disdain, and cast his prisoner off to the side. He spoke with strength and volume in his voice wanting his host to believe him completely foolhardy. "As per the terms of parley, I'd ask yer men stop pointing those at me, I be here to talk. Lead the way, and let us discuss our business."

Play up ignorance, and they'll get sloppy; just gotta show me hand in stages. He moved forward after the leader with swagger in his step, but caution in his mind. 'Parley' may be useless here, in fact he was counting on the men trying to take advantage of his 'cluelessness'.... he was almost certain things would turn violent now. The scene rang dangerously close to past experiences, the warning bells ringing in his mind. If only he was better at reading people...

((OoC: Let's play the walk further in game. Basyl is seeing the plan crumble with his ship on the rocks. He plans to try to hold to the peaceful terms of parley until he is threatened. However, some paranoia at being the only one exposed has him ready to move with full speed towards the trap if conflict ensues before getting to the 'private quarters'(readied action). If Fleeing: He will be drawing his weapon as he moves(free action), and leaping/diving over the trip-line. Hope you guys like playing it by ear...))
