Topic: Affiliates? Input, please! Subject: nope
That's not gonna work. Even though yes, two of the other sites are technically breaking the rules by placing their banners a bit below the fold, that's way different from putting it in the footer - which was specifically stated as a do not do.

Topic: RDINN Feature Updates/ Suggestions/ Bugs Subject: tavern name generator
The tavern name generator, a popular portion of our town generator utility, has been made accessible through a direct link in the Armoury. Of course, it is still available within the town generator, but now, there is no longer a need to create an entire town, if all you want is a name for your inn or tavern.

FYI, emybear450 will be out for the next two weeks. I'll be NPCing Aryan in "Buried Secrets". Others will need to make whatever accomodations... and I'm guessing that her new cat game will have to wait.

Topic: Affiliates? Input, please! Subject: no worries
I didn't take it that way at all - just wanted to clarify that I wasn't surprised they don't all have our button up yet.
As of this morning, two of the four are linking back to us. The other two will, but are run by webmasters like me, wh are probably busy and may not make site updates every day.
BTW, Utan, I didn't mean to sound dismissive of your slowdown experience - I have lived with hellishly slow dialup, so I *do* get it. My point was more than the buttons literally are no more than 1 second of load time. and even if you clear your cache daily, your computer will only add that second the first time you visit the site. The big slowdown that you saw was certainly due to other issues. I have seen the Inn take 10+ seconds to load across a T-1 connection several times in the past week or so... which points to a database issue.

Topic: Affiliates? Input, please! Subject: clicks?
Meh, if you want to visit them, visit them. If not, don't.
This is NOT a paid exchange. This is a way for like-minded sites to increase their traffic, since we all appeal to the same basic audience.
RPG Life has our button up. The others don't yet, but will - you've got to realize that, as the new guy, we have to put ours up first.

1 second. 2, tops.
I have noticed the Inn go slow a few times of late, though. Gonna have to look at the DB again.

Topic: Affiliates? Input, please! Subject: well...
...once you load the buttons once, it shouldn't slow your page one bit. Your computer should load a cached version of them, rather than download them every time. Not to mention that the total file size for the four buttons is a "whopping" 9k. Even if your connection is as bad as my old dialup was (where I was lucky to get 20k on a good day), that should still be less than a second's worth of additional time.

I'd applaud you again for the help, but I can only do that once per thread.
I'm not worried about the ads not showing up on add or edit message screens, compose pm screens, etc. But they should show up on all "data" screens.

I think that this is the look we're going with, subject to minor tweaks.
If you see a page that is missing the buttons, or see one that has them twice, please let me know!

Topic: Affiliates? Input, please! Subject: Affiliates? Input, please!
The Red Dragon Inn has joined an affiliate ring with four large, high quality gaming sites.
The big plus for us is that we get a lot of exposure on these high traffic sites - exposure that will certainly bring new gamers and writers to the Inn. Who knows? Maybe we'll find another artist or two.
Of course, to get that kind of exposure, we have to return it. So, you see the affliate buttons on the top of every page of the site. I understand that they look a bit odd at first glance, but I think that in a day or so, we'll all be used to them.
I don't think that our current layout lends itself well to an "advertising space", which is fine by me. Or has been until now.
At this time, I'm happy to trade links with these sites, so I'm not really looking for input about that, but I AM open to input about the location of the links. If you can think of a better way to display them, please feel free to make suggestions.
Please understand, though, that I can't move them to the bottom of the pages; it's not fair to get great exposure from them and then try to cheat them in return. The buttons HAVE to be clearly visible, in a location "above the fold."
Anyone have any input?
