Topic: Q&A: The Day They Woke Up on the Wrong Side of Reality
Subject: Just a quick commemeration of this event

Congratz to Jeremy's post. Some of the best work he has done yet for this campaign. If only it could happen more often (and maybe not only because the game has been paused for 3 weeks).

Anyway, I should like to get this thing going soon, now that I am finished school work.

Also: Tispers, what possessed you to say that Galen could fight with a sword? It we're looking at the default suggestion of long sword- that's a no, for he, I, and Ray. You, Jeremy, and Ian are the only with martial weapons proficiency. Not that anyone besides you seems to have indicated so.

I have to pity the American who takes that seriously. I have to admit, though, I saw -50 for half a week last winter. When the cold spell ended, it was -10 and I couldn't believe how warm it was. This week we're sitting through a bit of -20 to -30 right now.

Fun Facts: a patch of exposed skin will begin to freeze after fifteen minutes of -25.

Forty-five below will do you up in 6 minutes.

Egads! Whoever decided what would happen to the FR deities between 3 and 4 should be locked up to atone for his/her/their sins.

I don't remember much as I don't pay attention to much of this sort of thing, but I do recall one thing in particular- that Tyr ended up killing Helm in a jealous rage over Tymora. Seriously boys and girls/gods and goddesses, grow up. Anyway, I'll not even pretend that was related to the Q&A, even because I mentioned Helm and head off now.

Subject: Of thanks, of gold, and of victory

“The Watcher you say?” Dylan glanced at both Aelistae and Atharam as he approached. Finished his preliminary rounds of healing he came back to join in the conversation.

“I’ll be sure to leave a little something on Helm’s altar, as well as for Tymora, next time I’m in town. Without your help I’m sure some of us would have perished here. Xaris, at least, survives because of your actions. Though some hate to admit it, the elf here deserves some mention, Miss- eh, -Grey Elf maiden.

“I am Dylan, by the way, Dylan Geiling, a musician of little consequence.” (he says modestly – actually fairly well known in a few small portions of Cormyr and the Realms)

“I don’t think we really need to worry about greed here, I’m sure most of us have learned the true value of gold by now, that is, nil, but some lords and ladies high above our ken seem to like it for its shininess and so rule the world on it. Thus we practically need it to live.” There is an undertone of irony and sarcasm in his voice, but the bard doesn’t seem overly bitter about his speech.

“I assure you I don’t believe anyone here would throw their life away to fight over something so intangible as gold.” This time he displayed a big, ironic grin at his jest. Had he been in Darromar all that time ago and indeed been interested in participating in such a venture, it is clear now exactly what sponsors he wouldn’t have chosen. As fate granted it, he landed on the appropriate path uncannily.

I have just recently discovered that the picture is from a depiction of Kith-Jora, a/the god of nature in Audalis.

Long story short- holy crap he has muscles. There's an elf you don't want to get on the bad side of.

Dylan has taken up a standard level of Bard, and thus can now suggest (DC 17) that future confrontations be discussed over an ale before the actual fighting begins XD.
Other than that, I have the Sudden Extend Metamagic feat which allows me to 1/day double the duration of a spell I am casting without having to prepare/take extra casting time it or use a higher level slot. No new spells, but I can sing up an extra 2nd level/day now.
Glee.

Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes
Subject: Off to such an amiable start I see

The cacophony of battle fell away after the climatic note of Skull Crusher’s blade ringing against the stone worked floor of the keep. As the dust settled, Dylan timidly raised his head. Slowly he got up from his violin, which he had been shielding with his body. His eyes locked onto Bolikar’s body, and a swelling feeling of jubilation rose in his chest. Just behind the victorious joy followed his consciousness. JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING? however loud it would shout, it was no match for the giddy sensation of being alive against reasonable odds.

CHARGING UP TO A THING LIKE THAT WITH NOTHING BUT A RAPIE- Dylan glanced down into his right hand with some confusion. That was, of course, the same hand he used to drag Aelistae and himself to their deaths, so where was the rapier? Dylan glanced over his shoulder, Somewhere back there. He picked up his violin bow and sheathed it, but when attempting to do the same to the instrument’s body he came across some difficulty. Was there anything he hadn’t thrown yet?

Motion to his right turned his attention to the now fainting drow and the little gnome who had regained consciousness. Xaris leapt onto Aelistae, despite his crippling injuries, and tried to get her up, not knowing whether she was dead or not. The bard tried to speak, but found his voice a little hoarse from his shouting. He coughed to clear his throat and began again, “It’s okay, she’s just-” But the panicked gnome wouldn’t have any reassurances. After some persuading, the drow came back to the world of the conscious, but remained unable to see.

“I’m afraid I don’t know how to fix your eyes, Aelistae, but I can finish off your work here with Xaris. Hold still, o mighty champion of the gnomes.” Dylan knelt behind Xaris and sung a spell of healing, drawing positive energy into his hands with the notes. He then poured the gathered energy into the warrior’s body, which spread quickly to re-knit muscle, bones, tissue, and flesh back together. For the damage that his body sustained, there was no where near enough energy to put it all back together again, but it was a start. (Cure Moderate Wounds, my last of 2 second level spells)

Dylan set his hand into his belt pouch and found the wand exactly where it should be. There was at least one thing that had been properly put away, it seemed. He aimed at Xaris and spoke, “Coia.

Then he moved onto Aelistae, right next to him the gnome. He paused for a second. She would know if the command word was elven. “Coia,” and moved on.

He found Linnix arguing with a strange elven woman. “Do you see this Drow,” with a quick stabbing motion she uses her sword to point at the Drow crumpled on the ground, “That is my arrow that pierced her dark heart and now she had improved her lot, for I'quelin Mori'Quessier naa ba Mori'Quessir. ” She cocks her head to see if the girl understands elven. Dylan guessed that there was an elven proverb in there about their dark-skinned cousins, but didn’t know enough of the language to understand.

“Do you see that burned giant Orc, its was my companion’s fireball that took him off the battlements.”

“I have every right to be here and loot the one I have taken down. I was sent for information and I will get it.”

Dylan pondered this information for a moment, eventually coming to a definitive conclusion. I don’t know if that’s an Orc… In that moment, his cause returned to his mind, and he aimed at Linnix with his wand. “Coia.

He let himself get stuck for a minute in the argument, but soon enough placed his wand hand on his head in mock alarm at the discourse. The matted blood and dirt in his hair drew his attention. “I am a disaster,” he said to no one, then turned to leave. Before he did so, though, he raised his wand into the air, looked to it, and addressed it most formally with some bit of wit that struck him, as a draconic proverb. He held the pose for a moment, but upon realizing that no one would be paying attention to him, dropped it.

He strode toward Artanis, “This should ease some of the burning.” He pointed the wand at her and repeated the command word. This time there was no warm glow of energy flooding from the tip. In his experimentation with the supposedly elven command word, he had found an inflection so foreign that it didn’t register. Dylan returned to the blunt and direct phonetic pattern he had used to begin with, abandoning his attempts to flourish his healing with an elvish accent.

The slipcase for his violin lay discarded and relatively unsoiled. Dylan quickly descended upon it and returned his instrument to its proper travel position. Tracing his path with his eyes to the gnoll that had died to cushion Aelistae’s fall, then to where he dropped the rapier. His eyes lit up when he finally found the last of his possessions, and waded over to retrieve it.

With a sense of satisfaction, the virtuoso violinist looked over the field again. Man, that was worthy of an epic. He habitually ran his hand through his hair, then stopped short. “I am a tragedy.”

Oh dearie, Linnix proves herself a match to any elf's arrogance with her temper. Should we be thankful that Atharam hasn't gotten up yet?

Oh, and update: I was just scrolling past Brianna's char sheet and noticed that Bronwyn does indeed know draconic, among a boatload of other things.

Hehe, the language barrier thing might have gotten me on the goblinoid call. I love how I'm the only one (if memory serves) who knows how to speak draconic.

You and your Audalis short adventures. ^-^ Unfortunately, even with Filthy Theif left behind, I am just a tad overdone for things to do without time to do them. This will very shortly change, I imagine, with school being out for the winter now. That said, I think I'll sit this one out.

Also, I hope Spores picks up. The glimpses that I have taken of it seemed interesting and it would be downright sad for two games to go under in a row. Good Luck!

As the scout dissipated into the night air, Willow looked down on Manalagna. She knew she shouldn’t have. The Dwarf’s blood was quickly escaping through the hole in his back. His clothing covered the wound but was completely soaked in a gruesome splotch of blood. Dwarves have a lot of blood. The thought came unbidden and filled her mind before she could reject it.

Willow clamped her eyes shut and jerked her head to the side. When she opened them, she was reminded of the last monster. The creature went up in a conflagration of holy flames, leaving behind not a trace, as they were wont to do.

The lieutenant organized and shut off her mind beyond the few ingrained instincts and customs that she would need to carry on. With a quick sweep she found that her team was mostly unharmed and entirely alive. Only two deaths, it seemed.

Despite her service to the Aquinarran guard and the years before during the times of troubles, the sight of a dead body was still one that chilled her to the bone. It would not matter how many times she witnessed it, the cold, immobile visage that death granted to its victims would remain a horror for her. Thus was her living irony, skilled in evoking death as she was. Thankfully, she had not yet had to disobey an order to kill any living person. The majority of the blood seen by her swords was only that of beasts and other wild creatures that sought to endanger lives under her protection.

Mitsuru stepped over to where Manalagna’s body lay presumably to gather his remains. Willow wanted to be useful, but she couldn’t possibly make herself assist. Instead she cast a long, hard gaze into the fire. The air above the fire twisted and distorted in the waves of heat rising from it. But no, there was much more distortion than could be accounted for by heat. Her senses leapt for a second, and then the sylph reappeared amongst them.

"I came back as quickly as I could; I heard a faint scream," she says.

Mitsuru sharply looks over at the sylph, "How far away were you?"

"I was at the base of Mt. Venerro when I heard it," the sylph replies.

Willow was already reaching the same conclusion as Mitsuru, even in her inhibited state, and uttered a quick command to her team. “Saddle up, we have to get moving - now.” She moved quickly to her horse, but stopped to do a double take. Having avoided looking in the direction of either Armand or Deunan, Willow saw for the first time that Deunan was alive, if a bit staggered and confused. She gazed in awe, wondering if her senses had lied to her when the woman was felled by the Foot Soldier. One thought followed another and she turned to see the surely dead Manalagna sitting up, propped on one arm with Mitsuru kneeling beside him. That woman has magic at her command, powerful magic. Who else, she wondered, could use magic like that in the group? Armand also, at least, had proven that he was gifted with magical art.

But she wasted no more time on pursuing such thoughts. Willow quickly saddled her horse and soon sat at the head of her team next to Yin. She rubbed the scant two hours’ sleep out of her eyes with the back of her hand and took Mitsuru’s lead. It promised to be a long night.

“Dylan, I…” Aelistae started as she struggled to find her feet. Dylan started to pull her up, but the sudden discharge of energy from Artanis' threw off his efforts. The warrior stood surrounded by lightning-charred goblinoid corpses, which began to stink mightily.

Just as the crackle from the burst of electricity ended, another sound reached their ears, a more horrifying sound. (shoos the chronological nazis away)

“It’s Xaris. Take me to him, before…before it’s too late.”

Dylan looked for Xaris in the chaos of the battle and saw his puny pale form laying in a heap next to the excess of flesh that represented Bolikar's prone form. "Milil preserve us." Dylan took hold of Aeilistae's arm and sought the straigtest and clearest path to Xaris. "Eilistraee too, if you please. Baervan- give us a minute."

With Aelistae stumbling behind Dylan ran toward Xaris. To the creatures who might have thought it a good idea to intercept his charge, he bellowed in Draconic. Sure the word was nothing more threatening than 'move', but when the word was roared in the language of the dragons by a man who was stampeding toward you, it became a matter of intimidation.

(Hopefully I'll get a pack of those gobbos who are already ready to get the hell out of there. On another note, Bolikar could really use a targeted dispel magic all over him.)

Subject: A sudden notion

A sudden notion struck me not moments ago while looking at my profile page. What if users could adopt stati (statuses?) like their games. I know a big 'on hiatus' banner next to my name would certainly benefit me given the essays I am supposedly attempting to do as I type here. Not that you would ever notice that I'm trying to restrict my diversion time in favour of trying to get these blocks of text and (but not necessaryily including) intuitive thought written out and handed in.

For all my foresight, I don't think 'fizzled' would be a status. Those who fizzle don't tend to worry about letting everyone else know. (Though if you foresee a great extent of time away, perhaps fizzled would be more appropriate than on hiatus?). Also, I most certainly don't think 'completed' applies to here either...

But then I suppose all this is what the purpose of the comings and goings section is eh? Well goodnight.

Topic: The Christmas Game!
Subject: Occupying myself until certain doom arrives

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? The thrill of the hunt is to be found in the carnal act of stripping the present of its outermost layer, then subsequently throwing off whatever other layers remain until satisfied with the outcome. That said, our christmas presents are usually wrapped in the comics section of the newspaper.

2. Real tree or Artificial? The first time I went to BC, I took in the rich aroma of damp christmas pine trees. Oh goodness gracious that is a beautiful scent. That said, ours doesn't threaten to die in the box between seasons. Alternative to the tree, we use christmas pine mulch in mom's splediferous garden.

3. When do you put up the tree? However soon my dad will allow it to be put up.

4. When do you take the tree down? However long we can put it off, which varies greatly.

5. Do you like eggnog? Not a whole lot, but it indeed has a flavour to be appreciated. With Cinnamon

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Oh my, hard to say. I did dearly enjoy transformers which would be frequently flown around the house, regardless of bird shape in which to fly. Lego brought great enjoyment.

7. Hardest person(s) to buy for? I haven't really taken up the chore of buying christmas presents. Even now that I have moneys of my own, I am saving up to pay off student loans. That said the family teams up to get something for mom. I strive to make it non-kitchen appliance related, however much she seems to enjoy those gifts as well as any. Last year was an awesome toque with matching scarf.

8. Easiest person to buy for? My dad takes two boxes of turtles (the snack kind) every year, though this year he has been found to be diabetic. I can imagine things will be somewhat different.

9. Do you have a nativity scene? A little one that sits in my room. My dad is not much of a christmassy person.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? I thank that my mom does this. That said, mail. My mother would first have to learn the operations needed to get to the e-mail part of a computer, then with her keyboard-pecking style take forever to send them.

11.Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Once I got a small lego set that contained pieces of the wrong colour and several of the studs didn't fit the holes they were supposedly designed for. I was crushed at the idea that it was a cheap imitation. Of course that was one of the few christmasses we drove down to my grandpa's farm in Saskatchewan (the provine that you can only spell properly without aid if you have been and possibly lived there) the remainder of some pretty awesome gifts were found.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Uh... I don't know. There are some that I am rather tired of, but I like a whole lot.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Don't take care of the shopping. Personally I think the sales start far too early though.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Not intentionally? I don't think?

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Christmassy food, and anything made with the spirit of the season. What else can I say?

16. Lights on the tree? Lights, of course. Was there a doubt?

17. Favorite Christmas song? I didn't know a whole lot until High School Concert Band. Good King Wenceslas (or Wence-less-las) and that one about the hearing what I hear. Pretty well all of them - except maybe those flashy ones that have been overdone. I heard the TransSiberian Orchestra or whatever you call it once and really enjoyed that.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Commonly stay home.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Not without Olan's help. I would have gotten Dasher and Dancer, then maybe Vixen. Comet was a favourite, and Cupid would follow in mind. Rudolph without question.

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Star, but I kind of want an angel. Maybe even a terrorist angel with her pretty candles (see several times previous post).

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Morning, with much anticipation, usually.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? People complaining about this and that and not being happy. (Of course there are many complaints that I will whole-heartedly agree with, but I don't need too much griping) also, the flashy, superficial side of christmas promoted by our lovely capitalistic system (I complain of it and I live in Canada! You poor Americans...)

23. Favorite ornament theme or color? I don't know. We have several ornaments that look like instruments. Band Geek that I am. I think our tree is too small for some of the things we throw on there. We even stick the rest of the garland over the windows and railings and still the tree is too full.

24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? MMMmmmmMMMmmmmmmm..... just about everything.

25.What do you want for Christmas this year? Honestly? I have never been able to say what I want without several hours and a Wishbook from Sears. Of course in those materialistic younger days, there were many things. Now I am mute on the subject. I wouldn't mind some certain D&D Supplements now that I think about it. I almost forgot- but another shipment of books to read. Everything I currently own has been read nearly thrice or more- besides that dwindling pile on my computer desk.

Well, time to Audition for Symphonic Band. Wish Luck!

Oh, and for Reralae- check that I added the bonus essence from my Sight power and give me time to work over a problem that arose with my skills. As it turns out, some of them are special skills which I didn't account for (extra point cost 'n' all)

After that, I don't think there is anything else too horribly out of place...
