Topic: Corrupt a wish
Subject: Granted

But on that 5th day of work that you would normally have, your boss hires a monkey to do the job. SO while we are all enjoying our extra day of laziness, monkeys are busily showing our bosses how inefficienct we are, so they fire you and you suddenly have 7 days a week off, even better than you wished for! Eventually the monkeys convince their new bosses that they are too efficient to need supervision and thus take over the world like in a recent, familiar scenario.

Also the initial lesser hours per week results in decreased pay for the last weeks before you loose your job.

I wish that I was the embodiment of an uncorruptable wish... (has this one been used already?)

I guess everyone was like me, lazy this Christmas break. Soon enough people will be back and bother enough to post. Thank-you Sui for the gift. Really moved along compared to the last two or three posts (no sarcasm here). That is not to complain about the posters.

Valerick assumes a position infront of the door, with his sheild held in front of himself. If there was to be a quarrel, he did not want to be slowed to participate by being unaware.

"Open the door if you can, Tram," Valerick instructs calmly, "and move away."

As he waited for the little one to act, he allowed himself a small stretch with his sword arm, wondering if Tram would agree or if some one else would take up the job. So many possibilities, and so little care over which one was taken.

Valerick answers the little one by walking purposefully forward down the hall with his sword and sheild ready for a physical resistance. He keeps his attention on those behind them, to make certain they are following him. In the dark he decides to pull up the question.

"Is it still necessary to maintain the dark," he whispers, the fingers of his shield arm moving to touch his focus.

(If the gnome answers that it is necessary, I will provide no light, but I will wordlessly expect him to lead. If light is allowable now, I will cast the light spell on my focus, assuming no one pulls out a torch or other item that allows me to save my measley little spell.)

Valerick thanked the 'elf' for helping him and fell into place in front of him. He drew his sword and refastened his shield to his arm, then caught up with his new found allies. He waited with some impatience for the small one to check the area ahead. If he found the gnome's joke at all funny, he made no sign of it. Decided to note when he lost earshot of the cacophony raging outside.

Upon seeing the success of his two remaining teamates in getting across the pit, Valerick turns to see exactly what happened while he was rescuing the elf. He sees the tree, completely blocking off the entire other side of the cave, much against any hopes he may have had to find a path. He remembers something Siegfried said about Roy dying.

Having perhaps the most religious background (and even then, not too much) Valerick Damasti bows his head for the deceaced teamate.

"Nature's Whim and Wrath has brough tragedy to this man's life. May he rest in death." Not knowing what more to say, Valerick remains bowed for another second, then turns his attention to the only door.

Valerick draws back from the door and gap 10ft (if possible) and readies himself for what he will attempt to do. He starts running and leaps over the pit across to the other side, knowing full well that he is not probably going to land on his feet, or even in a comfortable position.

(First priority is to stay standing on the way to the door, then next priority is to make it all the way across. Again, he expects a bit of a rough landing and tries to brace himself for such. Maenads love that kind of stuff, for pretty much the same reason why they prefer heavier clothing.)
Going to take 10 whenever possible, but if a roll of 10 would be insufficient, I'll risk a die roll ^-^

Heh, it seems I have been operating under the false assumption that the other door was still a possibility without a chainsaw. How far across is the pit again? 5ft if my memory serves (of course I could always go back through the posts to find out myself). Anyway, I guess that's what happens when you vanish for a week.

Edit: I apologize, I had fully intended to post something (I even had some good ideas), but when I was finishing it, my keyboard registered the backspace as 'back' so I lost the post (wasn't too long, thank goodness) but I have to go now. I will fight to do it later, or maybe bring half of it up now.

Valerick is unperturbed by Tram's remarks, knowing that anger will cause the tongue to turn devil to the mind. He gathers the rope in a coil around his arm, ready to use it anyway if needed.
Despite his earlier plans, he waits on Tram before trying the other door, though he does step aside, waiting upon an out come of any sort.

Valerick watches the little creature plunge into the pit silently. Still holding Tram's rope he conceeds to rescue the latest faller.

"Siegfried, I think this is getting to be a dangerous game. I want to try the other door before anyone else falls to their death. If we find nothing, you can try the pit then."

Valelrick grew more anxious of the storm, powerful enough to crush them behind a tree potentially, and at the very least, enough to drown them.

(Upon successfully pulling Tram up, Valerick will move to the other door and open it if no one else has tried or is trying)

I completely forgot to forewarn people here that I would be in Orlando from last Tuesday (Nov 13) to this Tuesday (Nov 20). Heh, in truth, I wasn't even home until 12:15 in the morning today...
On the way to the Busch Gardens on Monday, it suddenly occured to me that there are a number of people who I forgot to inform and may actually wonder where I vanished to for a week.
In my defence (as I must alway make excuses, even if they are pitiful) It was crazy here the few days before I left for Orlando. (I even got to beat on my friends with a foam sword for the first time).
Heck, my English teacher forgot for the sleightest of moments that she gave me permission to be away. I would like to say I am back now, in case you hadn't figured from the dates above.

Valerick, annoyed with himself for slipping, plants both feet in a wide, stable stance, and tries to remain rigid and keep from sliding. "Do not worry, I will not drop you," He says, to deaf ears, as the little creature already went over the edge. He carefully held the rope as Tram descended, ready to snap his hands shut should the little one slip and need an anchor. Valerick looked back to the door he had been intending to open a moment ago, the only possible path to safety now. He returned his attention to Tram's lifeline.

"Siegfried," he said.
Upon confirming the other man's attention he continued. "I may need a hand keeping stable when I pull them back up. They look like they weigh little enough but this ground is treacherously slippery."

Valerick steps on the rope tossed to him by the small creature to keep it from sliding away. Then he put his weapon away and picked up his end. "Are you sure you can hold it? I don't know what your race is capable of."

*He looks small to be pulling opposite me, I don't want to pull him into the pit.*

"Perhaps, . . . the Elf can pull himself out with the rope." Valerick suggests, using the new word.

Subject: No Smoking permitted in cave

"Valerick, you said it was? I can sense smoke from this room beyond the door... Surely it is dry there. Perhaps this would be the more appropriate pathway to take, do you think?"

This snapped the cleric back to reality. He realized that he hadn't been paying as much attention to sounds as he had intended. He silently berated himself and turned to Siegfried.

"Smoke means fire, but we don't know if this means a hearth fire or an uncontrolled blaze. If it is the former we have no choice but to proceed. However if the latter, opening this door could mean death for the five of us where we stand." Valerick advised. He noticed the tiny creature looking into a pit on the other side of the room and could only wonder what happened until he noticed the lack of the self-proclaimed wood elf.

"I think we should try this way but be very careful. As you had advised, this may be yet another ambush."

Valerick hesitated for a moment, his hand on the door knob (or handle). He hesitated not because he was afraid of what the room may bring, but because he had not thought of the possiblity of ambush himself. In his pause Riaharan took the lead and opened the door.

A sharp crack issued from behind. The tree filled the entrance, leaving Valerick with the ever present awe at the forces nature can bring against the unwary.
*at least it will keep out the pounding rain* Valerick thought.

While Riaharan surveyed the empty room Valerick moved to the other door, this time pausing to wait for the others to finish with the other room.
As he waits he allows the sounds of the storm to flood into him, enjoying the cacophony made my the violent foces of nature. He kept his ears open for any other sound however. (Listen check if you would please)

(If something DOES happen in the other room, naturally I will want to be there, but if not then I will open this door to suffer any consequenses of doing so.)

To my understanding, our DM was trying to make it clear to us that there were two doors besides the entrance to the cave, which leaves me wondering, if there are two, did Riaharan open the door I intended to open? (maybe I worded it wrong but I figured I was already pulling it open. If you didn't understand, my fault) Or did he open the other? Are there even two doors? Am I merely crazy? What is the world coming to when trees snap in perfect timing to seal us in? XD I will write my post assuming my door was opened. If I am wrong, just throw something at me and I'll edit.

Valerick noticed the painful sting of the rain everywhere his armor did not cover. The rain pellets beating down on him like hundreds of tiny bullets. He moved away from the entrance of the cave with at least a little annoyance, where upon he saw the rising water level. "Alright, I vote we crash the party before we die out here." He insterted himself neither gently nor roughly between the door and Siegfried, and pulled on the handle. His sword is at the ready for anything that may be expecting the invasion.

As Valerick proceeds past the entrance of the little alcove, he sees that it is an entrance into some underground structure. Upon his body you see he wears a shirt of chainmail and leather pants. He wears heavy looking boots, a heavy green shirt, and leather bracers. There is a well worn sword at his hip, On his back in an equally worn shield. He either has seen a fair share of battles or he runs himself into the ground while training, you decide.

The shelter quickly transforms into an exploration as the man who declared himself Siegfried walks to the door and knocks. Presently he turns his attention however, to the man with large ears, calling himself Riaharan, a 'wood elf'. Valerick takes a moment to wring the water out of himself and casts his gaze over the others. A tiny man that he didn't notice at first, who could have been a child but for the look in his eyes. The only other occupant in the cave was the human who was just covering his arm when Valerick entered.

The 'elf' creature draws Valerick's attention again when he draws his bow. He had been listening to the conversation in the back of his mind so he knew what was going on. Before drawing his sword he decides to introduce himself, and in doing so, trigger the introductions of the two he hasn't learned the names of yet.

"I am Valerick Damasti, Priest of Storms and worshipper of violent weather," he says. Valerick had been preparing that line for the occasion that he had to introduce himself. Almost as if to make his point, he draws his longsword there, then begins working the sheild onto his arm.

Valerick glanced to the waterfall that might have been his fate a second time. "A fool's mistake," he thought to himself, remembering the waterslide. He forced his mind to stop wondering how far the waterfall dropped before he was tempted too badly to scream, to relieve the day's stresses.
A second later and Valerick's angers and irritations were suppressed, then decided that the humanoid in the leathers had some idea where he was going and so followed him, doing his utmost not to startle the lightly armored man.

(Who is that in front of me? probably the other who got in late?)

Valerick saw the cave, even from behind, as soon as the other did. "That must be his destination, a good enough place to weather this rain," Valerick thinks, and follows him in. He cannot help but wonder if he was intruding upon an adventuring group's campsite as he saw the three already inside the cave. He was proved wrong, however as he saw that there was some dispute going at the entrance between a man and a shorter man.

To the others, two more people approach the cave to seek shelter from the rain. The second is about six foot tall, and visibly strong. His skin appears to almost glitter occasionally, when he turns this way, or that, as if a small amount of gem dust had alighted upon him. His eyes are like emeralds and his long brown hair is sopping wet. You also see that he wears a wooden medalion around his neck and rather heavy clothing, probably made heavier due to the fact that it is completely soaked. It may be raining hard, but this guy looks like he's been for a swim recently. He stays behind the other man and chooses to remain quiet but not as to hide.
