Topic: Auguries of Destruction - The Linsemptus
Subject: Stop you filthy little thief!

Willow immediatly began to sense something off as she fell upon the crowd. Her steps become shorter and cease to hurtle her forward, rather now angled to absorb her momentum. Hey! She was one of the people knocked over by the same woman. Willow realizes. She attunes her sensitive ears to catch the complaint vocalized by the woman. This woman had also lost valuables, in the form of a purse.

Willow waded through these men and women complaining of displaced items of monetary worth, cries that she picked out carefully. She drew herself to one familiar vantage, to the side of the tree that had once granted her shade not so long ago. Willow peered at the alleys and streets surrounding this riverside location as she formulated her next plans. Enjoying in the coolness provoked by the tree's presense was an old man with sentimental thoughts of a time before petty thievery became common here.

"This seems to be the road of lost items these days, ever since this road became a delivery route." Willow glanced tentatively down at him, avoiding eye contact, to see if by chance he was expecting a response. She hoped not, but as the seconds of now awkward silence marched on, it seemed equally impossible to respond so late as not at all. She strode unhurriedly away down the direction that the delivery woman had first taken minutes ago.

Since this road became a delivery route, Willow considered. Obviously there was a connection between this 'delivery' business, and the exchanged possession of a number of people's belongings. Considering the number of people here this day with absent or thoughtful expressions upon their faces, Willow guessed that the business had been running in the area for a number of days, the only question now would be how long would she have to search to have her ring returned to her?

As she walked she left her eyes and ears open to input from her surroundings, looking for delivered-to customers or unwillingly delivered-from victims. Surely another clue would present itself, and until then all she had to do was hound the known and predictable path for long enough, turning about when the way ahead grew unclear. She would just have to keep track of where she had been and pay attention, though perhaps an iota of confidence when talking to strangers might draw this maddness to an early halt.

Pushed aside but not forgotten was her promise to her rival, to be waiting in her room in an hour. Surely it would not take so long to uncover information of a serial thief. . .

By the time the that Miran had finished his shielding spell, the battle was well under way. Only Percifeer was not in action against the beast that had leapt out of the water. Miran glanced at her, but made no motion to try to change her mind. Besides, there would be no telling what kind of spells she would cast in the mood she was in.

Returning his full attention to the fray at hand, Miran moved in with his rapier next to the other two siblings, striking when he could into the flesh of the beast, while deivising a strategy for best using his tactical spells.

Oh yeah, not first level Ninjas here -.- I knew that Ghost Step when Ethereal at a certain level, but I failed to remember our character level.

Topic: Auguries of Destruction: The Linsemptus - Q/A
Subject: Ninja! (plural ninjas? ninjae?)

A Ninja's Ghost Step (from Complete Adventurer I think) basically involves becoming invisible for one round with the use of ki. Useful for making sudden strikes, a Ninja's version of the Sneak Attack, but unusable in flank.

Topic: Q&A: The Day They Woke Up on the Wrong Side of Reality
Subject: House Rules - Lookit that! I've used all the pre-set boxes now!

I'll make a more officious list later, when I remember more of these rules.
-Non-standard Cosmology: Not much of a house rule, but this is to say that the planescape will not look quite the same a presented in the DMG.
-Resurrection is Difficult: I'll let you mull over the possible implications of that for a while.
-Rolled AC: Defence is determined by applying a d20 roll to the AC bonuses, rather than the base '10'
-Spell Points: Spell casters do something that looks a mighty lot like what psions do. In my campaign, it at least applies to the prepared-casters, though the spontaneous casters may sign up if they desire (note, the only people possibly affected by this variant are myself (prepared-caster, using it) and Galen (spontaneous-caster, not using it).
-Suffer the Slings and Arrows: When shot in certain body parts, expect to suffer penalties with regards to that body part (it is no simple matter to even move with an arrow in you, not to mention falling over, but I figure we're heroes after all). Slings are more realistically martial weapons that deal umm.... let's say 1d8 bludgeoning damage. In reality, they're a bit difficult to use, and result in fairly stinging impacts.

Subject: The Day They Woke Up on the Wrong Side of Reality

One night, in a world where a game known as Dungeons and Dragons has gained both much popularity and equally as much prejudice, one abyssmally dark and stormy night it so happened that some friends had just finished up their 'via Instant Message' D&D session whilst through the windows came the roaring peals of-.
Well, in actuality it was a relatively peaceful evening, even in the coastal suburb where lived Galen, apart from the group having moved away from his friends a few years back. They complete their own rituals of returning dice to their altars where the consistantly high-rolling are all but worshipped, and restoring stacks of books to their former organization, promising to speak to each other again the next day. However, on this night, not an abnormal specimen of nights, they experience the same set of unusual dreams simultaneously, unknown to each other.

Within the first dream comes the vaguely remembered experience of looking into a world, not unlike our own, though strange and beautiful in ways not immediately comprehesible. Throughout the duration of this dream the members so selected to view it carry away with them the inexplicable sensation of being a spectator, peering into this world without being a part of it. This dream leaves little to no memory in the minds of the slumbering viewers.

After the peace of the first, the second is that of sudden horror, rapidly descending toward a perceived surface whereupon the imagination has no trouble filling in the potential consequences of making contact. Though the sensed surface is never struck, as out of darkness and into light they were launched as their reflexes shook them awake.

But they were not awake, as the standard definition goes. The third dream is the strongest in the memory. In this dream it is first realized that there were others who shared these experiences, as they stand assembled. Bathed in a world of light, there is the sound of two voices, apparantly addressing the assembled friends. A female voice, strong but sweet, remnicient of joyous moments and the ecstacy of life. The male voice is deep but smooth, and influences thoughts of peace and wholeness. Sometimes it is the one voice or the other that is heard, and sometimes both overlap and harmonize into one. They said:

"You have proven yourselves champions at heart. When our darkest hour arose, a prophecy was made that no man nor woman born under our care could defeat the evil that has crossed us. We send you our plea to aid us. Do not worry, for we do not intend to unfairly endanger you, you will go with our protection to a temple prepared for your arrival where you will find our trusted servants are waiting to equip you with the tools and knowledge you will need against the evil you must face.
"You are now approaching the completion of your journey, prepare yourselves to--"

Suddenly you recieve a sharp shock, like a cold shower or the sensation of sticking your fingers into a socket. It is as if a spike had been driven into your mind. This violent assault leaves you with a black mark upon your memory.

The final dream is of floating, asleep, gently downstream in a small boat over a river of mists. Within the dream they come to realize that they are again asleep, dreaming of their own slumber. As all sensation of the dreams regresses back to whatever realm they come from, the friends begin to awake, though not in their own beds. In the first moments of arrising, the content of the dreams is lost to a hazy part of their minds, though the sight of the strange room and that of each other evokes a tenuous link to return the fleeting memories, in order to better explain their curious predicament.

They found themselves in a brightly lit room, the roof, walls, and floor made of stonework. They open their eyes to see four torches in the corners of your eyes on the walls. With confusion, each of the six that arrived sit up, discovering one another's presence. Movement from behind causes all to twist themselves about to see what was the source of motion. Six small wooden boats, just big enough each for a person to lay in. They drift away, seemingly on a suface of mist alone. The mists vanish, leaving behind a very wide set of closed stone double doors, adorned with carvings of a man and a woman each reaching to the other sideways, as their bodies face forward. Their fingertips join at the split between the doors that is now barely visible; Cradled in their arms is a circular seal emblem of some sort. This final occurance is the strongest for pulling in the memory of the dreams, and perhaps leads to the belief in some that the dreams are not yet ended.

Note that only five characters: Owen, Ian, Galen, Ben,and Jeremy are in the stone room. Raymond happens to start elsewhere, which will be included in a future update.

Willow's walk by the riverbank is for the most part undesturbed, being in a less crowded area of the city. The warmth of the midday causes her to pause as she passes into the shade conveniently located within her path. Unbeknownst to her, slowing down suddenly made her body an obstacle to be triumphed by a exceptionally hurried woman.

As it were, this sudden cease in forward momentum on the statuesque girl's part was unanticipated by the frantic deliverer, causing her to collide with Willow, forcing the girl to stumble forward to regain her balance. She glanced back over her shoulder alertly to see what the matter was, spying the woman with the oversized parcel.

"I'm so sorry! Are you alright?" The woman asks of Willow.

"Oh, uh yeah, I'm fine," Willow responds, "Why are you in such-"

"I'm sorry but I can't talk; I was supposed to deliver this half an hour ago, so I have to run!" The woman quickly returns to running, weaving through the crowd and nearly knocking over several other people as well, stopping to apologize and then running again.

Willow watches the retreating form of the package-carrying woman for a moment. Her nerves tingle for a second as the thought of theives enters her mind. As soon as it appears however, she shakes her head slightly to dispel the notion.
Thieves don't stop to apologize, she thought to herself, and carried on her way.

As she approached the riverbank, her thoughts helplessly fall upon her upcoming leave and of her fiancé. She longed to visit him, but she knew that he was on a visit to Wanqir at the present, due to be back soon from a trading expedition. With an absent mind, her hand drifted over to fiddle with the ring that was there. All the while, her a nagging in the back of her mind grew more urgent, until the familiar touch of the ring was found missing.

Instantly her heart felt as though it had been turned into a cold stone that now descended to a new position in the pit of her stomach. Her eyes fell to her left hand, confirming what her other senses had known already. Her eyes locked onto the path that she had just travelled, her thoughts singling out the delivery woman who had crashed into her. Willow didn't want to believe that it was the woman who seemed so apologetic over colliding into her, but at the moment she had no other leads to follow. At the speed of thought Willow raced back down the path by the riverbank. Her great strides and powerful legs carried her swiftly through the crowd, as her towering size allowed many to anticipate her arrival; the expression on her face giving most the idea to get out of her way fast. Her mind worked frantically, deciding which way her memory believed the woman had run off in while trying to formulate a description to use any time she lost the trail.

However far she got in the last three minutes, I will get there faster, she promised herself.

Willow almost reacts when it first appears that Yin is about to renew his onslaught. When she saw his grin she feared that perhaps he might have taken leave of his senses, certainly not unbelievable after his maddened growl, but she gets the sense that he is within his own control.

As he begins to laugh helplessly, Willow takes her swords in the same hand, held backwards. Yin's own weapon slides and falls out of his grip as he collapses to his knees.

"You win again! Of course," he says, still laughing.

Willow hoped he had not grown bitter in defeat, for such emotions were rarely healthy for oneself. It didn't seem that she had much to be worried about, for he exhibited no further regrets of his loss.

After a moment, Yin stops laughing, and then he sighs, "Ugh, I need more practice... but first, I have a present for you. I'll give it to you in your room after I give my body a slight rest. Give me an hour I guess."

Yin jumps to his feet, sheathes his blade in the practice sheath, puts it away where it came from, and limps slightly as he walks away.

Willow considered saying something to him, but she realized that she had nothing to say at the moment. She remained quiet in about the same position until Yin had nearly left, when she began to seek the sheaths of her practice blades. A gift? She could not think why he would feel the need to give her one.

She planned, as she took care of stowing the gear, what she would do for the remainder of the day. Her adrenaline levels were not quite suitable for returning to the contemplation of her quarters just yet, so she decided to stretch her legs and take a walk down by one of the many riverbanks that made up the Aqinarr regions. It was among the warmest hours of the day so maybe she would see fit to dip her feet in the water, though first she would have to pop back to her quarters to deposit her armor. She would return to her quarters before the hour given by Yin was up, though, at least that much was certain.

Willow draws back for a momentary pause, clearly the least suffering Warrior. She could feel sweat beginning to form on her brow and under her armor. Also her body began to ache from the dulled blows, though as for that she knew the blows dealt by her hand were far more punishing then those landed on her body.

With this in mind, she takes advantage of the lull to speak, "Stop. You are good at what you do, but surely you realize that will not last much longer. We don't need to beat each other senseless to prove anything so I suggest we quit for today." As she makes her speech she signals with her body language by allowing the points of her swords to dip toward the ground slightly, showing a halt in the agression.

He has improved and is probably more than a match for the others at these Barracks, but to continue would only serve the brutal purpose. I hope he is not too proud to accept peace. Of pride comes much foolishness.

Despite her irenic intent, Willow has not completely put down her offensive, in the event that Yin is unable to listen to her reasoning. Should he choose to continue the sparring match, she will return her attacks, albeit at a slower rate (that is, only 2 attacks per full-round action, in lieu of all 4)

In a few strides, Willow closed in on Yin, swinging both swords together in a horizontal arc. However her strike proved ineffectual, as the man's armor stayed the magically dulled blades of her swords. He rolls with the attack and with a jarring shot, he plants a strike on her elbow. Willow was jarred slightly from the strike, pulling that arm in a little closer to shake off the pain.

Never underestimate your opponent! her mind cried at herself, you cannot afford to become arrogant when weapons are involved. She pushed extraneous thoughts from her mind, specifically those pertaining to her upcoming break. She renewed her attacks, sweeping her swords in powerful arcs that either struck painfully or when they didn't contact with a vulnerable spot, they hammered Yin's armor.

(Full Attack: +12/+12/+7/+7 1d8+5, 1d8+3, 1d8+5, 1d8+3)

(Also, on my character sheet, I forgot a +1 from weapon focus (longsword) so should be at (for singular attacks) +16 for my longsword +2 and 14/14/9/9 for TWF with both swords)

Willow shall continue such a manner of hammering upon Yin unless circumstances change until the man either drops unconscious, or shows signs of dropping.

Willow accepts the pair of longswords offered to her by Yin, realizing only now that she has indeed made a habit of choosing her weapons from the same location.

Note to self, she thought, choose different swords next time. That and never send him ahead anymore.

She positioned herself opposite Yin on the field, quickly shaking loose any laziness of her limbs from her previous preoccupation. As soon as Yin saw fit to start, she would be ready to react, whatever happened from there was up to skill and luck.

Willow fingered the band around her left hand ring finger. Joseph had given it to her, a magical ring that could turn away anything trying to harm her. She had thought it a sweet gesture, and certainly the ring was nice, but she was still surprised to find that the tiny loop actually did contain protective magic. As she gazed at it, she contemplated her up coming leave from the Barracks, when she would add another to this engagement ring. She had already began introducing herself as Willow Hiswena, as stange as it still felt to have a last name after so many years gone by without needing one.

Her eyes darted to the door at the sound of a knock.
"Hey, Willow! Are you busy?" A voice calls from the other side of the door.
She wondered who had betrayed her to him as she winced at another series of pounding upon her door. At this time of day she wasn't usually confined to her room, but today she didn't feel much like going outside. OBviously somebody had seen her return and had told Yin.

She lifted herself off her bed without haste until a third reverberating chorus motivated her to reach the door before a fourth. Judging by the flinch of the man on the otherside as he pulled his fist back, Willow discovered that she had arrived just in time.

"Yes?" she asked, looking down at the barely older man. She guessed that his drive for disturbing her peace was so that he could once again spar with her, though she hoped otherwise with realized futility.

"Hi Willow! Are you busy?" Yin eagerly repeats his question.

"Not right now." She replied, not anymore. She glanced at the trunk wherein lay her armor, tailored to her dimensions.

"Oh, Ok! Umm... do you like to read?" Yin asks hesitantly, his armour softly glinting in the light from Willow's window.

"Yes, I do, but give me ten minutes, I'll meet you in the Training Hall," she replied, cutting off what may have been a lengthy round about discussion resulting the question to her answer introduced seemingly at random. Yin grinned immensely and departed quickly. Willow closed the door behind him and reflected on the trouble she once had learning to read; Such skills were never necessary when she was growing up, but within the walls of civilization, there was much to be gained by understanding the written word.

~Assuming no further distractions between changing into armor and arrival at the aforementioned destination~

Willow walked quickly into the Training Hall, to where Yin waited on a bench to one side. Her armor made very little sound as she swept past, a testament to the expertise in its craftsmanship. She selected two of the many enchanted swords that trainees fought with, enspelled to take the lethal edge out of each swing.

"Are you ready then?" She asked of the one who refused to accept defeat. Though she had to admit, he never gave up.

"We be far enough away from the prying ears of the enemies of my adopted father," the young Golden Dragon Shaman spoke in a friendly, but subdued tone, "and these be loyal guardsmen who have protected me in recent years from my own foolishness among the Skoarn."

Cyrus was somewhat relieved that his companion already had a general idea as to whom could and could not be trusted. Draygo'Solarr anticipated the dragonblooded's questions before they came it seemed.

"We play a game for the hidden listeners," explained Draygo'Solarr matter of factly as he drew abreast of Cyrus and matched the young adventurer stride for stride as he quietly surveyed the surroundings and the body language of his faithful guardsmen. "I play the part of the Elven buffoon and my guardsmen play the part of the displeased Skoarn who disdain the very thought of having to escort me wherever I choose or am ordered by my adopted father to go."

Cyrus allowed himself to grin as he listened to the height of deception and trickery of the Golden Skoarn Shamans.
"I suppose I should take on the appearance of a pint-sized surly human who does little to lighten the atmosphere with his scowling beauty then?" Cyrus jested, his frosty appearance melting somewhat to Draygo'Solarr's eyes. The shaman spent some time explaining the game and the truth behind.

"Perhaps I have been so banished for being so sour in the presence of one such as yourself. Does that sound like proper politics to you? Perhaps I have much to learn before I can make proper of such games." he replied, smiling as his icy eyes scanned the area carefully. With but a thought would the silver of his blood would be revealed in preparation for working with the arcane energies that resided in dragons, and to do so was only so tempting at this point. He forced himself to maintain a look of general displeasure at his presumed fate and walked within the set bounds. If perhaps they were to be attacked, fighting back may not be the best answer, especially if it were true that unallegiance was so great a buffer from assault. In this world, it mattered not who attacked who, but which faction member attacked which faction.

The consensus ended up being for visiting family at the Freeman's Way back across the bridge. It wasn't Miran's decision but for the time being he was content to be but a peon in the greater war. Besides the company that was to go along with dinner would most certainly be of a more amiable sort.

He followed his siblings and paused to consider each of them. Everyone of them grew up without the comforts of individual parents, but had to instead become united by a fatherlike figure that was and is Ormander. Indeed it could be said that they argued like siblings, and lived for much of their time as though related. Even though for a shared heritage however, there remained a mental barrier between complete siblings and orphan mates, that allowed them to look upon each other and occaisionally find one other attractive.

As such pondering of foster parentage usually caused, Miran's mind wandered to the mystery of his own lineage. He had learned from Ormander, as did all orphans when they were deemed of the right maturity and age to handle such matters emotionally, that he had been left in the standard fashion for unwanted children, in a basket under the silver ram. He decided, in a rather detached manner, that his parents were likely two young nobles who had spent rather more than enough Guain on their Midsummer Eve's drinking tab, though he still knew that just anyone could have been his mother or father. The fishmonger over yonder calling out to make a profit of his last few catches, or perhaps even the fisherman.

He turned swiftly as the fisherman passed, looking to make some humor of the situation.

"Come now my good fishmaster, from what fire do you run?"

His vocal intentions may have been thus, though most of the jest beyond 'fishmaster' was eliminated by a wet smack that inspired a near-yelp of surprise by the mage. He turned to whatever beastie had thought to set itself in their path. Miran supposed that a more studious life might have invested within him a better idea what this ugly creature might have been, but before a fight was less than an ideal time and place to confess regrets.

His hand shot to the rapier worn at his side quickly, for it was indeed of more use than show. He drew the elegant blade from its sheath and leveled it before himself protectively as he worked on the next step to his strategy. Merely owning and knowing how to use a blade hardly made one a swordsman, even less so for one who dabbled much with illusions. Though as for that, a good wizard had a number of tricks for many situations. Wearing armor made difficult the movements required for weaving magic, so Miran made use of a useful spell that would call upon magic to sheild him.

Shield, he thought, the word in mind bringing behind it a memorized routined of gestures and words, combined with the stored mental release of energy that would make this possible. The air before his left hand seemed to compress into a large disk of energy, outlined faintly. By the completion of the spell, the visible tell-tales had given away, leaving one battle-ready magic user/swordsman.

Second quiz, I have 7 Str (and I am a big person too... being one of only two to be capable of carrying the band keyboard solo, not to complain too much) 10 Dex, 9 Con, 15 Int, 12 Wis, 9 Cha.

Also, I'm reported later to be Neutral Good, which is quite simply me.

I can't seem to get the second class/race quiz to work, though I remember from some years ago another, relatively lengthy quiz that rolled me out as a Neutral Good Elven Bard/Mage whom ran around weilding a Polearm, and made a character out of that, being Lysander, elven spear-weilding Bard. How amusing these things can be...

If the assumption that one of those swiftly hazarded guesses brushes close to correctness is none too bold, I shall then ask this: What horrific non-standard plane are the freakish Pseudonatural Creatures from and (if it's not too much to ask two at once) what prestige class was based upon the inclusion of these sick, pulsating masses of flesh and organs?

Miran knew not how to abate an argument between siblings, and most certainly did not want to get involved for quickly he would have to declare allegiance to one or the other. He waited on the outskirts of the discussion, weighing one argument against the other. He hoped that somebody would take the initiative to put a halt to the unpleasantries abound. Unfortunately, before that happened, both sides finished making their stakes and openned up for comment.

Miran glanced from one to the other, quickly trying to decide who he would side with. Pio wanted to proceed to not necessarily familiar territory, but with family known to frequent the area. Percifeer's opinions was that the group's time would be better spent seeking out a potential source of information in most likely unfriendly parts. Though as for all that, Percy was clearly more adamant than Pio to get her way.

After another few seconds in contemplation, Miran stood forth to gather attention and voiced his reasoning for which opinion he ended up choosing. "The both of you have made your arguments for or against each of the two paths immediately apparant, and I for one have this to say: While I agree that our sister could be a source of valuable assistance and a friendly sight for supper, we know not how long we will be able to find this 'Virgin Stuart' at the expected locale. There were more than a few thugs who were present at our inquisitioning that escaped and may be willing to recount the events to a sympathetic ear. My say is that finding Virgin at the Heart of Darkness has the potential to be a very difficult task if we wait too long.
"Also, we don't expect Dory to be going anywhere in the immediate future, compared to this other contact who may have unanticipated plans."

He looks at his siblings left and right. Two votes for the Heart, one for the Freeman's. He finished his miniature speech, "You have my reasons, I think we should get Pio his disguise and go to the Heart of Darkness. Also we shouldn't forget that we will be going into possibly hostile parts of the city, and anyone here whose shown his or her face as one they might remember, they should be very careful."

He waited for Beinsel and Llammoth to agree or disagree, he privately began to consider what would and wouldn't go with his current attire. Afterall, regardless which way they went, there would be some shopping soon. Something in the back of his mind reminded him that an armorer wouldn't likely carry much that was suitable to his fashion sense, but he discounted it, deciding that it wasn't necessary to fret about those details before he even saw the selection.
