But stryke has seemed to fall off the radar as of recently. Posting on behalf of the DM (who is doing homework) I ask ye all, do we want to drop Grakh? If we do, would we like to instate a new character, or leave our party where it is?

As Pao and Dai left the table, Miran leaned back in his chair comfortably. Most recently he decided that Ocyari's safety was his priority and therefore he would not move right away. The other two would have a fine time on their own, talking to Virgin. Besides, not even Miran could miss the hungry looks cast at the young girl after her song.

Pao was right about the plot, Miran decided. If a quick escape was needed, they would be venturing further down the snake's throat with this move. He did a double taken suddenly, as he realized that the little girl would not be returning to the table. His chair hit the floor as he jerked forward, but beyond that he tried to hold onto the façade of indifference as he calmly made his way after the girl. He glanced back at the table, wishing there was a better way he could keep an eye on the girl. If his experience with ten-year olds was anything to go by, changing her mind would likely involve a bit of a comotion, for she would object to literally being dragged back to the table.

Subject: More fighting... I can't wait to see if things pick up once we're clear of the old campaign.

Ben cast aside his torch and dove into his pocket to retreived the small glass vial with cork stopper. At the same time, he backed away from the skeleton, directly into Galen. The skeleton tried to follow him as he threw the very-slightly minty contents of the vial down his throat (+5 Ben 7/15) but Ian quickly stepped in. He used his bone club as a baseball bat and forced the bonewarrior to reconsider its advance in favour of ducking.

Round 3

Ian's assault was quickly returned, but he was quick enough to avoid both attacks, though he could not take advantage of a gap in his opponent's defence. Jeremy was less lucky though, and only managed to avoid the first of the two attacks, and had more finger marks etched into his chest. (-4 Jeremy 2/9)

Trying to ignore the pain quickly being brought to him, Jeremy drew lines of smoke between him and his foe, to little effect. He was aware of his plight and took advantage of the new opening behind him, stealing his own potion out of his pocket. He had little time of respite and swallowed it down quickly. The effect was beautiful, all his sores again removing themselves in a flood of tingling energy. (+7 Jeremy 9/9)

Galen was forced to acknowledge the battle again when Ben bumped into him, but only just barely. He removed himself from behind Ben and found refuge from the melee.

Unharmed, Ian kept batting with confidence that one of these hits would take his undead foe away. He clubbed it, but without the force required to put a crack in the opposing bone.

Round 4

While Jeremy recovered, he was already being closed in by his foe, which drew up next to Ian. It ignored him though, keeping to its original quarry and hooking its claws through the air before Jeremy. The other continued its attempts to eviscerate Ian while he moved quickly. He couldn't hold off his enemy unscathed forever, however, and the skeleton finally reached out and nearly scratched off Ian's face. Ian threw back his head, sacraficing his dodge to save his vitals while those claws dug mercifully shallow gashes into his chest. (-2 Ian 8/11) The fourth and final skeleton took up initiative to move into a place from where it could fight. To obtain the location, though, it clattered through Ian's fight, opening itself to a quick opportune strike from Ian's club. (2 damage) It wheeled around once it gained its position, though, and returned the favour with its claw, to which Ian dodged.

Jeremy struck out again, having very little luck using the torch as a weapon. He had help though, as Ben found himself close enough to enter combat again. Though there was not much help to be had, with his first strike Ben did not force enough power into the blow to seriously crack bone.

Meanwhile, Ian continued to fend off the attacks of two skeletons at a time now, taking the occaisional shot back at the two, targeting first the monster he saved Ben from. It continued to be a pain for him, its mindless body protected by its hardness.

Round 5

With all three skeletons fighting, the clatter and cackle of bones moving quickly to the fight was growing ominous, Ian suffered two more hits, he could hardly keep track of which skeleton was hitting him. (-2, -2 Ian 4/11) On the otherhand, Jeremy scores a nice shot while the skeleton in front of him leaves itself completely open. The force of his attack was enough to finally obliterate the energy animating the skeleton, by way of breaking the body assigned to it. (4 damage + 1 fire)

After his lucky quick attack, Jeremy leapt forward to retake his old position in battle, to help Ian. He would not be in luck twice in a row, however, and the unweildly nature of the torch made it difficult to use against the skeleton.

Ben was left behind and unable to reach the melee again, though little did he know that he would be thrust back into to battle so soon. As the others before him, Ian found himself needing to get out of the way to use his vial of healing potion. He swung his club one last hopeful time to a miss, then moved away and put his potion to work. It erased any trace of pain or damage to his body.(+7 Ian 11/11)

Round 6

Despire being fully and well healed, Jeremy wasn't handling his defense so well by the time the monster reacted to his presence. It seems the distraction he gave Ian came at a high cost, as another two clawed assualt spilled more of his blood. (-4, -3 Jeremy 2/9) Jeremy's voice cried out in pain, unable to contain itself from this strike. The other skeleton decided to follow Ian, this time making Jeremy the one to be surrounded front and side by undeath. True to its mindless form, the tactical advantage of closing in on a single target never occured to it, as it gave Ian a close up view of its yellowed knuckles.

Jeremy understood that to retreat now would just as likely mean his death as staying, and so with the conviction that came with such realizations, Jeremy took a wild swing, connecting his torch with his opponent's skull. The shot crushed the entire side of the skull inward, leaving one of the ghost lights of eyes floating and in an odd location. (4 damage + 1 fire)

Ben found himself with what he deemed as his original opponent in close combat again. He swung his axe over the head of the skeleton as it lunged at Ian. As such his chop only glanced off the bones. If the rusted blade were newer, or sharper, perhaps it wouldn't be so difficult to strike with. Though considering that, the axe was probably the strongest weapon available to the group at the moment.

Ian found his opponent was distracted momentarily by the swing of the axe it fought not long ago. He took advantage of the lapse in attention to crush his femur into its ribcage. Whatever way the damage to the body was determined to be too much to be animated was beyond Ian, but the lack of joints or muscles sent the pieces of this life size puzzle scattering. (4 damage) Then he came to the rescue of his friend, throwing himself back into the range of the other skeleton.

Round 7

The last skeleton, unaware of its own secondary mortality, continued to move its body to flail and jerk at anything its master perceived as enemies. Jeremy's breath caught in his throat as the skeleton's claw swung through the air to miss him. He didn't have time to release it, however, as the other claw caught him in the stomach. (-2 Jeremy 0/9 Disabled) His world spun as the vertigo set on by blood loss took effect. His breath was heavy and laboured as he tried to remain conscious.

It was Ben's passage by that distracted the skeleton from the killing blow, turning to attack the new opponent as he left himself open. (-3 Ben 4/15) He stepped up into the pile of rubble so that he could attack without fearing for Ian to get in his way. Woe would take them soon enough, for as Ben shifted his weight so too did the rubble shift, nearly dropping its burden onto the skeleton.

While the skeleton's lack of mind wrestled between Ben and Jeremy, Ian took up his own disagreement with it in a violent discussion of bone on bone. Several more of the two hundred odd bones in a human skeleton sent report of shattering. (4 damage) This most recent act of offense seemed to offend the skeleton more than either its previous targets.

Round 8 (in actuality, probably 10, 1 minute)

The skeleton raced for purchase in Ian's fleshy body, but would find none. While Jeremy held the wall to brace himself, Ian swooped away from the deadly claws. Jeremy staggered back to a safer place, Ben gave the monster something more to think about. While Owen helped Jeremy sit down, Ian to a crack that only skipped off the pelvic bone. The choice of the femur would prove to be a very good one by the time they survived, being among the strongest bones in the body.

Round 9

Jeremy already been forgotten in the few dozen word command that a mindless servant can remember at most, the skeleton's assault continued to be directed at Ian. He avoided one claw and with a smart tap on the wrist of the other, held it back.

After a long battle, releif finally came when Ben's axe beat a rusted blade into the lower spine of his opponent. Such a hit would probably instantly fatal to any living creature, but it was not the severance of the nerves from the brain that felled this foe.

Owen now held the torch that was in Jeremy's hand as he asked Galen for the last potion held by the group. At the far end of the room there seemed to be another short hall, which could be seen to have a soft, natural light. The combatants were now collectively exhausted from the efforts to smash skeleton after skeleton, while moving fast enough to avoid blows. The idea set in that most of them had been killed a couple times over, if not for the serendipity of the potions.

(That battle was certainly more life threatening than last time. Who knew Kaed's nearly self-sacrafice could have spared so much. At anyrate having a better init wouldn't have hurt either. Well, except the person with the higher init, who would have been attacked by all four alone.)

When Jevaf's cry of treachery rebounded outside, Gamiates was leaning against the cave entrance. He sucked his breath in quickly and pulled away from the rockface, startled. Drassar dissappeared into the cave within a flash, which Gamiates took after. Once he made it deep enough to see the theif, he would immediately begin casting a magic missle spell at the man. Whatever had transpired within the cave was unguessable, but clearly Jevaf had called for aid to defeat the man.

Subject: The shy, young Willow

True to her fashion, Willow remained thoughtfully silent during nearly the entire trip, her mind trapped with thoughts of her beloved, who should soon be taking this route home to Aqinarr. For the first time, she found herself worrying for him, an unpleasant turn.

Yin, true to his fashion, acted the part of Lieutenant for the both of them. He was the kind who, though not so experienced, could make a good leader, a person that his people would look up to and follow. He also showed the wisdom of asking Willow for her take on matters, which could indicate the ability to consider his allies' opinions.

At last, two days later the troupe rode in through the east gates of Wanqir, sailing the colours of the Aqinarrian guard. The daunting sight over Venerro was a constant chilling reminder of their mission. In those two days on the road there was no report of the situation, so the unconscious mind naturally began to fear the worst. Upon arrival, they were quickly ushered through the streets to the citadel by the people, facilitated by their appearance on horseback.

(Not being responsible for the appearance of the numerous NPC's I seem to trail around)
Both the Aqinarran Lieutenants approached the gathering of other individuals. (Random thought- Banatan is elsewhere right? Wouldn't that interesting for a giant eagle to participate in this discussion.) Willow found herself quickly admirring Deunan, a strong and confident type who would clearly take no guff from anyone. So moved by the introductions on the previous two adventurers, Willow nearly introduced herself. The moment her voice began in her throat, it stopped itself. Unfortunately, more than a few noticed her attempt to speak. Suddenly on the spot she looked to the ground. Mercifully, Yin introduced them instead.

"I am Lieutenant Chang and this is my colleague, Lieutenant Hiswena. We have travelled from Aqinarr with a troupe to join this mission. Each of us is skilled in physical combat."

Willow, once the attention was diverted away from her, took the time to look over each of the others who would be so bold as to undertake this journey. She saw that she was likely the youngest member of the group, save perhaps for one girl of her own troupe, Farah. She was probably also the tallest of them, standing at about 6’4” and ridiculously tall for the average human girl. She had long sandy-brown hair reaching to the small of her back and brown eyes. Currently she wore her full combat gear, amounting to two longsword sheaths at her hips and her breastplate armour, which she wore as though it were regular clothing, not hampering any movement her body may need to make on the field of battle. A critical eye might see that her nose was slightly long and pointed or any number of small things, but she was unlikely to warrant a critical eye in the first place. Other assessment showed that she had superior control over her body and the force she could exert with it. Anything I missed you can find at the AoD Information thread, where I have another description up.

Sibelius drew up a roll of parchment and a quill, laying both out on the table where now only he and Lysk sat. It already contained a fair amount of writing, most prominently a large note down the side reading 'AoD- Finish and post already!!!' He proceeded to scribble down a few more paragraphs, glancing up once when this mysterious new woman entered, hearing her order for twig tea. When he finished the post, he got up and slid out of his seat. Nimbly he moved through the plethora of chairs and bodies in a dance-like state, intercepting the waitress who took the new woman's order. He gave the waitress a message for her and redirected the pot of tea to the table he and Lysk sat at. Having hijacked the evening, he quickly went on to submit his post through a door labelled 'Auguries of Destruction'.

He would only be gone for a moment, not even long enough for his own beverage to cool. The message for Nimu as related by the waitress is thus: No newcommer to the Red Dragon Inn drinks alone, if the residents have any say in it.

There is a time in the post when he sticks his glowstick in his belt- I looked over our DM's shoulder as he wrote it if I recall correctly. Also, Jevaf is slightly further into the cave than the lurking two were. That said, the DM is the authority on this, and should be the one to tell you things not already mentioned. I'll not usurp his power ^-^.

I have to say Wyrmsting, that for some reason, of which reason knows nothing, I imagine Ters as a flamboyantly dressed dwarf with a very large, fancy hat. I will do my best to dispel that image for obvious reasons as I replace it with the actual appearance of the mage.

Subject: At Tispers' suggestion, I shall save us the agony of waiting for each round's worth of posts

(You do know, though, that you are allowed to say what you plan to do for a couple rounds in the future, right?)

Round 1 (of this post, like Round 3 of the battle or something)

Finally having regained his wits, Jeremy returns to the brawl with his torch. He lunges forward and sweeps his flaming weapon in a horizonal arc, but the monster pulls back from it quickly. Opposite him, Ben throws a successful crack with his axe, but without flesh or internal organs, an axe is limited to chopping bone. His strike severs the already brittle collar bone and manages to shatter the top few ribs. The problem with undead creatures such as these, is that one never knew exactly how much fight they still had in them. If their phsycial appearance was anything to judge on, they were post mortem, but it was the animating magic that held them in battle. But then, where was the line drawn when a corpse or body was too damaged to continue functioning? Ben would have to keep hitting to find out (2 damage thanks to power attack and DR).

Round 2

Without abdominal muscles, instead subsittuting the animating force, the skeleton on the left swings its torso back with its claw extended. Much like the other did not so long ago, it stumbled, providing an opening at its skull. Unprepared for this sudden advantage, Jeremy swung his weapon hastily and without proper force. The contact of his torch to skull sounded a crack but inflicted no permanent damage. While he made his opportune attack, however, Jeremy brought himself too close to dodge the other claw, which darted out as soon as the monster regained its balance, which is to say, a moment too soon. (-3 Jeremy 6/9)

On the right, Ben had a full deal on his hands, the skeleton that tasted his blood was all too eager for another. It caught a hold of his left shoulder and dragged its claws down to his breast, shredding more of his shirt that now barely survived. Thankfully, Ben managed to hold off the other claw. He began to feel just slightly faint from the blood loss and he knew that it wouldn't take much more to fell him. (-5 Ben 2/15) (Full damage again, my dice seem to be seeking revenge on you for something. Might I suggest a quick potion just before your attack this round? Don't forget you have one)

While Ben's luck was beginning to turn down and he was starting to struggle, the shock of pain may have been exactly what Jeremy needed. His torch connected again, and with the full force of a prepared attack, he broke off the jawbone and continued to break a couple ribs, allowing the flame on the torch to lick and char the bone. (3 damage + 1 fire)

(Ben?)

On another note, I see that our Paladin's Intelligence is 18. Now, even at fourth level, after the first bonus point has been given, that is impossible for a Half-Orc. Subject: Wait! I see a Bard in the front lines! What are they playing at?

Dylan found himself with too much time on his hands to resist second guessing himself, but not nearly enough time to think about his situation. He leapt out after the firing ended and put his rapier to use against the nearest goblins, acutely aware of this contradiction in his nature. Though Dylan didn't like to identify himself as a coward, he did admit that he had a 'healthy sense of self-preservation'. A sense which told him that he shouldn't have volunteered for such an isolated position in the least, and questioned every decision recently made on the broader scale.

For the next few moments, there was little to think about and much to do, as he fended off his opponents with limited success. He was none too worried off the start of his battle, being quite thick of body and tough. Even still, it wouldn't do to dance around like a fool waiting to be skewered, so he nearly sighed as his luck suddenly turned. The precision of the blade strike through the goblin's chest was so clean that it must have seemed to the other goblins as though the man had some skill with a blade after all. The joke was on them, but they weren't done with, now fetching more crude weapons to do battle with.

Dylan took advantage of his momentary reprieve to consider his position. He wasn't lying when he told the others that he was something of a friend of lady luck, he had rarely been in any situation which he could rectify with a little improvisation. Good luck seemed to follow him, waiting on the side lines to give him a little boost, or perhaps it was his adaptability and readiness to take what life sent him. Either way, he learned to take what luck brought him and to turn a little bad luck around. He dug into his pouch and drew a small pair of wooden dice. He opened his hand to look at them, resting on his palm as a six and a one. With a smile he closed his fist again, and drew back with a flourish and called aloud. "I think it's about time I had some luck!" Against the steady thrumming of the drum his voice was small, but the power of his words was not to be mistaken, as he cast the dice into the air, beginning to glow seconds before they dematerialized.

With this new resource at his hand- an intangible pool of luck, Dylan quickly put moved himself to the left goblin, forcing the one to the right to manoeuver around his comrad. The last thing he wanted was to have to fight them with one constantly at his back.

(Improvisation: 5 rounds [just cast] / 10 points)
If either tries to sneak around me to flank, I'll spend two points on the attack roll to take him out, otherwise I'll keep them reserved for if I start to really need them.

Gamiates glanced at Drassar without moving at first, his eyes lingering on the dark depths of the cave where the sound emanated from. Where, he wondered, was the real agent that was supposed to be meeting the thief? It would surely be unfortunate for him to show up now that we have claimed the right. He shifted his poor human eyesight from the deeps of the darkness to the barely visible form that was Jevaf, the assumed leader of this group. She was a tricky one, and acknowledged by Gamiates as the most wily and cunning of all of them. Though as for that, her coldness and dettachement made her . . . difficult to cooperate with.

Knowing better than to throw the intricate plan that was no doubt winding through that drow's mind, Gamiates left with the others. Being the only one capable of spellcasting in this group, he considered himself the primary authority on magical issues. His hand unconsciously reached for the wooden disk that hung around his neck as he considered his arcane and divine arts. If only he could get closer without being seen, he could locate and identify any items of power that the thief could be wearing.

Subject: Sibelius joins the ranks of the Common Room

Sibelius descended from his rooms upstairs. On his way down he saw Reralae's fleeting form disappear behind the door of one of the many campaigns she frequented. He shook his head and continued to the top of the stairs down to the main floor. There he was confronted with a being, seemingly an incarnation of the stereotypical ideal of perfection. Sibelius watched the man retreat to the next flight of stairs up. His acute hearing followed the sounds of footsteps upstairs while he himself set his sandaled feet down step by step.

Sibelius Eos Owm is, at first appearances, a man who could seem at home anywhere, while still looking foreign. He is just short of six foot tall with light skin, green eyes, and short black hair that comes together in a tight, thin ponytail that runs down to his calves. His garb is a storm grey long-sleeved shirt with grey leggings that draws your mind to the humble attire of a monk, but that is where the similarity to the asthetic life ends. He has added his own flair to the clothes with an emerald sash around his waist and down his shirt front. Upon his feet are simple sandals and his head is adorned with a wide bamboo shade, his weapon in a short, curved scabbard at his right (not like a scimitar, by the way)

He pauses midway on the flight of stairs as the thunderous sounds of violence ring from the upper levels. He takes another step slowly, then grabs the top of his shade and ducks quickly. Some sixth sense must have alerted him, for the moment he moved, the man who passed him previously sailed out over his head, to bounce off the table at the foot of the stairs. Grugg roared his warning from the upper levels where the mystery of the cake lay solved but unsaved while Sibelius knelt over the man, pouring a bit of water from an oddly ornate waterskin that hung at his left. One can only hope that Grugg's fist had a positive influence on this man's common sense, he sighed to himself.

After tending to reviving the foppish hero, Sibelius passed Almerin, who lingered at the foot of the stairs, on his way to the table that Reralae would be most likely to return to. He took himself a seat and spoke into his hand, "Tea, please," and allowed the wind to carry his voice to the ears of the waitress. "How are we doing tis evening?" he asked, turning to the people he found himself seated with. He was no stranger to them, but neither was he quite familiar.

The combat near Jeremy was occuring just too quickly for his body to process in order. The skeleton in front of him collapsed, only to have its place refilled. He vaguely recalled Ben being clawed pretty badly. For the next few seconds, he did nothing but react, drawing himself back and concentrating on holding the danger at bay.

With his blood on the enemies' claws, Ben turned his axe to his own troubles. He brought the weapon over his head, but the wound on his side pulled the swing off, allowing the skeleton to dodge away from the chop. It reacted right away and returned with its own attack. The bloody claw streaked toward him, but it came too quickly in its eagerness and caused the monster to become unbalanced. Ben saw and took the chance to make up for his weakness earlier and swung the rusty old axe again to a miss. Though for his lack of luck in his offense, the skeleton's second claw never found purchase either.

Meanwhile to his left, Jeremy had his hands full blocking the sharp knuckles of the other skeleton. He moved quickly enough to dodge the first attack, and held the second one away just barely with his torch.

(Well, six attacks were made this round, none leading to a successful hit.)

"These two,” she pointed at the two goblins near the north eastern trail, which appeared to be leading to another camp, “must be taken out immediately. We cannot risk them warning the next camp.” With a quick look in that direction, she looked back at the group, “I may be able to take them out myself, but should there be any unforeseen surprises up their sleeves, perhaps one other can come with me to make sure they are both dealt with quickly and silently, leaving no chance for escape.”

"She talks!" Dylan cast a grin at the half-elven 'Artanis'. She seemed for this entire journey to be embraced in a shroud of her own world. It seems the possibility of a fight in the near future managed to bring her to life. I hope she's not one of those 'live for the battle' campaigners. I wonder what she'll be like once we get back civilization? Will she fall into her own world again? Or will she live a little?

"I offer my services in this endeavour, Artanis. I am hardly any swordsman in my own right, but I can do alright for myself."

Not long after the incident at the pool, the first sign of intelligent life approached Raymond. The clip-clop sound of hoofbeats thundered from ahead, accompanied by the rumble of wagon wheels against dirt road. His eyes confirmed what his ears did know, by way of glimpses of motion through the trees. This was perhaps the best chance all day to get in touch with the civilization of this strange place.

Subject: My evil plan

Though my character wouldn't know, I'm hinking that we could try to come at these goblins the same way the werewolves came at us (you). Our physically powerful characters (that be you, Xaris and Artanis) find locations at which they are subject to the highest numbers of enemies and the rest can take up positions around the camp. No survivors to flee to the other camps if everyone is careful; their forces would be split with dealing with either side at a time. Of course though, this may be dangerous as everyone is separated by rather large distances, so aid is at one's own hands.

Dai frowns a bit, noticing Percifeer's amorous pawing at Miran. "Is Percifeer often in this condition, or has she been celebrating? Or mourning? She looks pretty happy, so I doubt the latter. It is interesting that you two have paired. I couldn't have imagined it years ago."

Miran's eyes flickered open at the implication, his breath drew in suddenly. The drink that Percy had offered him readily subsituted for the air he was otherwise accustomed to inhaling, but his lungs had to object to this change in routine. There was a quarrel and after several moments of choking, the lungs won out, evicting the alcohal.

"I'm afraid you misunderstand, Dai." Miran cleared his throat another time, to ensure the drink did not have any ideas about returning for a second strike. "I can vouch that she has not had more than a reasonable quantity of alcohal. I can only assume that she is attempting to put on a façade that will help her gather information." He speaks quietly to Dai Lung, knowing enough not to speak so loudly of plots in this dark place. "As for why she has chosen me as her victim tonight," he casts a glance at his sister, "I believe it may be payback for a verbal misstep outside."

He takes another glance around the room, eye lingering on the celebratory newcomer. "So, we came here for information, shall we start then?" He turns to Percifeer, whose act has been warming up for a couple minutes now. He obviously expected her to open up the evening.

"The main thing we have to worry about is that it's not just the goblins we're facing," Linnix elaborates, "We can't just plan against one faction, because the others need to be taken in thought as well."

"I'm afraid I have to disagree, Linnix." Dylan cast his gaze to the moon, full only a few nights ago but now missing a tiny sliver of light. "Well, not directly. Personally my greatest worry is the lighting conditions of this grand stage. I don't know if I'm the only one, now that you've taken the potion, but I can't see so well at night. I'm certain we don't want to be creating too much light, so I only ask that the others take my eyesight into account. That is to say, I might not be able to tell friend from foe by sight once the dance begins, so I would like if we could take care to identify ourselves if there is ever a situation when we are in doubt."

"Lastly, though I think it may be beyond mention for some, I would like to point out that relative quiet is very important, so that we don't attract the other camps' attention. We should refrain from casting particularly loud spells." Like several of mine are. "I agree with Talus' suggestion. The southeast camp should be our first target, in my opinion.
