Topic: Q&A: The Day They Woke Up on the Wrong Side of Reality
Subject: Fooling myself is so gosh-darned fun

As if anyone would read this, but to explain for the recent mortified activity of my campiagn, I have a few words.

University. This word indicates the UofC, the post-secondary institution I attend.
kills. this present tense form of the verb meaning 'to end the life of' or along those lines.
posting. this word refers to the action of creating a portion of text to be added to a forum. In this case, it is used as an adjective to describe the next word.
time. individually it is the passage of the intangible force that progresses life along its course. It can also be refered to as the current hour, a tool for measuring time, or as in this case, the length of this intangible measurement required to perform an action. Combined with the previous word, we can infer that this sentence revolves around the time required or set aside to post, hence 'posting time'.

Wow... I really let that one get away from me. ^^

Fools, Willow thought bitterly of her team. She was not wont to be so critical of others, but when making this first impression she had not expected such . . . , brazen thoughtlessness. The girl lieutenant wanted to go with Yin, if only to avoid being left alone before these two others, but she held her position, unwilling to draw attention to herself and unable to relax.

Seconds passed uncomfortably, the conversation between the dwarf and this 'Dusk' fellow drew her ears. Willow silently begged that some one would break the disturbing quite, until further crashes brought report of her team. She bowed her head, staring at the floor. Her hair covered her face, but still she felt the world surely knew of the redness that heated her face.

Then, at once, her embarrassment was thrown aside. The sounds of approaching Mitsuru and Akihiko drew the attention of those otherwise focused on the discordance that accompanied the melody of silence. They entered the room with the confidence and indifference of folk accustomed to this sort of occaision. Why can't I ever be that calm?

"I am Mitsuru Kirijo, and this is Akihiko Senada. As you likely guessed, we are here to aid in this quest." Mitsuru says formally.

"Hey." Akihiko says casually in greeting.

"My actual purpose here will be partly to oversee this operation." Mitsuru continues, "Not as a commander of course, however, I will suggest you heed my advice; I am skilled at providing tactical information, and is thus why I was commissioned by the Council."

"If you're wondering why I'm here, I'm here because it seems like good training." Akihiko says, shrugging.

Mitsuru rolls her eyes, "As I have told you before Akihiko, this isn't a game."

"Yeah, I know." Akihiko replies, "You don't need to remind me."

Training? Willow thought, either he is very good, or very foolish- maybe both. Mitsuru, on the otherhand, could be a good person to have on this venture - if only we could proceed soon!

Then, more events! A sudden crash dispelled the ineptitude of the Aqinarran guard from the minds of those there. A dark robed figure strode through the door quickly, hand gripping the neck of their scythe. The rapidity of this entrance cast away Willow's shyness for a moment, as she summed up the visitor. Their hand was on their weapon's neck, while not immediately threatening, could be a shift in grip away from wielding the weapon properly. They approached quickly, but not at a pace which Willow would consider appropriate for an ambush. In short, it was not her belief that this person had come to attack.

The tall girl let down her defenses slightly, and with them left most of her apprehension about her position. Whether as a result of the slight spike in adrenaline her body received, or of the fact that the gathered group had reached a size where she would feel less on the spot, she almost began to relax.

With his glowing symbol of his will, Gamaites peered over Maaht's shoulder as the large half-blood took particular insterest in a stalagmite. He returned to his own search, but quite suddenly abandoned it under dire circumstance. The door swung out, the bottom of it just scraping the cave floor. At first disbelieving, Gamiates peered into the tunnel beyond. He raised his light to the gap, "Congradulations, Maaht, you found the trigger."

Pao's gambit seemed to work out very favourably for the orphans, and soon they were journeying out into the night. Miran didn't miss Ocyari's lapse, the same feelings of weariness mirrored in himself. He, however, was more capable of throwing off fatigue than the child. On a few occasions Miran saw Ocyari trying to rub the sleep out of her eyes. Of course, he himself was not immune to exhaustion, particularly with his leap into the river earlier. He stopped himself from fantasizing about his warm bed back home.

Tonight would be a long night, so he finished his drink before going outside. He chose not to speak, electing merely to nod to Pao as he stepped out of the establishment. He turned back to the door, expecting to see Beinsel and Percy emerge at any minute.

He tried to revive his mind with a few mental excersizes, too keep himself awake and attentive. He would remind, if necessary, the others later that they would all need to rest, else kill themselves trying to save Ormander. They should probably seek a comfortable repose after they finished this quest for the 'Virgin' and received the information in reward.

Subject: Hey

Why do all my NPC's have to be the ones to make the loud sounds of destruction? I thought Manalagna and Dusk were a few seconds away from being the 'comic relief' for us.

I suddenly have a bad feeling about the life expectancy of my team...

Anyway, hopefully we can return the posting frequency up to a level where we are playing the game again. Particularly since we are now so close to actually starting (characters introduced, check; characters given motive, check; characters met each other, check. The last check we have is 'characters adventuring together')

Now let us go! Else I smite some one with Hammer (that's right, not a hammer; Hammer)

And don't any of you call me a hypocrit when I don't post right away next week, university is doing a very good job of occupying my free time.

Welcome to the group. (yeah, it seems like a lot of us don't really like the orcs - including the orcs themselves!)

Next thing would be to determine whether or not we should pretend you were here all along, or that your character was otherwise absent for some reason or another, but I'll leave that to the DM and yourself to decide. Perhaps the other players may have an opinion (or two) about the situation?

Subject: Forget Swordsmanship; The Goblins shall learn to fear the violin

Apprehension built within Dylan’s chest as the lights went out steadily. The promise of bloody war encroached over the darkening road. Before even a moment passed, the light of the full moon was the solitary illumination across the plain.

“Very well then, I suppose I can spare a quick Allegretto for these unappreciative retches,” he said, more to himself.

With a practiced motion, Dylan’s right arm thrust to his side, but it was not the sword held there that he sought. He quickly, but gently, set down the slipcase that held his prized possession, his violin. The bard knew well his craft, and wasted no time to slide the beautiful instrument from its comparatively unglamourous case. With a flick he drew his bow and adjusted his grip.

In contrast with the rest of his somewhat bulky body, Dylan’s fingers were long and slender. Expertly he held his bow in his right and set his chin to the violin. Compulsively, he tightened one of the knobs at the end of the strings, remembering the flat string from his last performance. Finally, the last thing before he began his performance, he dropped his lids over his eyes. There would be no need for sight, especially considering the conditions.

The first note he struck ripped through the night air in the same fashion as his bow across the bridge of his instrument. He did not allow it to linger long alone in the night air, chasing it with a series of quieter, accented notes that raced up and down the scale. The notes began to come faster off his bow, thus louder in the night air, until with a final tremolo note, quivering in the air, he began to sing. His melody rang out in threes, soft, soft, strong.

“To my song you shall dance, to my breath take your stance” His first phrase descended down the scale. With typically sharp yet, somehow, flowing notes, he wove back up and down, building and folding his sound as appropriate to create a steady pulse. His song continued, melting into the background of the battlefield din. Every time his song lulled, it would suddenly return at full strength, causing an intake of breath in those hearing it. This sudden wind would provide skill and confidence in the actions of his friends. His enemies, they heard the song too, but it was with nothing like the courage infusing their opponents. Occasionally Dylan would suddenly be singing with a very harsh, incomprehensible (to most) tongue of throaty growls and rough sounds. At one point he silenced and let his bow and fingers sing alone, at another he shifted the bow in his hand to pluck furiously at the strings. The climax of the song featured a verse in Draconic at the top end of both the violin’s and Dylan’s own dynamic range, practically roaring out into the din of the battle.

(That is to say, in short form, I shall be inspiring courage for the next however many rounds until something occurs that may cause me to change my mind. By default, Dylan will use that spare move action leftover from his concentration to move away if he is too closely threatened, otherwise he will remain seated in the cart.)

Subject: Gami

Disbelief was written on the face of the mage-cleric as the thief disappeared behind a wall of solid rock. With the departure of the sunrod, the cave was left without enough light for the human to see in. The others began to make plans to track the man down, for they could work with such minimal light. On that thought, if they were to follow the thief, the cave entrance would provide no illumination.

The magic missile incantation on Gamiates' tongue slipped away into the confines of his memory, as the light spell came forth. He touched the wooden disk about his neck and it began emitting a bright light. Drawing his club-like mace he stepped forward, "Shall we go then?"

Gamiates repainted the picture in his mind of where the theif was exactly when the secret door burst open. He would look there first for the switch that could have opened it. Of course, when he first ran into the cave, the exact position of the rogue against the cave wall was of less than secondary importance to his senses. Perhaps the door opening was magic? Even still, with as much stone in the area as there was, the mechanism would have to be fairly shallow to be penetrated by detecting magic.

(Gamiates will be searching for secret doors to find the activation device)

I just felt like mentioning that Willow and her small dragon's horde worth of gold and platinum will remain unspent for now.

...As if I really needed to go out and make a post for that.

Seems as though Dusk got waylaid- I'm sure everyone else has noticed by now, but that was last Thursday night he promised XD. I wonder whether he is going to start getting violent with the th' Druid. I wonder if there is anything else I could post to revive the semblance of movement and life to the main thread. I wonder how long it will be before we start getting butchered by Linsemptus Scouts. I wonder what's for supper. Yes, I'm just a wonderous person ain't I?

Subject: Freedom!

As Ben took the first few stone steps, I turned to my other friends, clambering over the rubble. "I guess this is the way out," I said. "Appears to be," Galen muttered a reply. What that skepticism? I didn't know, didn't think so. Ahead the promise of fresh air seemed to drag us out of the tomb that was nearly our own. The stale air, though we didn't realize it until our exposure to the world outside, was quite unpleasantly tinged with the reek of death.

"What is this place?" Jeremy asked, midway up the stairs. He hoped that someone has even the slightest idea. "Not just the dungeon we're in, what is this... world? We've been suddenly sent somewhere where we're stronger, faster, heartier, and can use strange sorts of-"

That moment brought ourselves full out into the eerily silent day. I tried to finish his reluctant sentence for him, but the overwhelming quiet subdued my ability to break it, "Magic?"

His hushed voice won out over mine, "-magic. It's not just that though, the air, the stone, this entire place just feels different."

I nodded to Jeremy. This place did feel quite different than home. Was it still on Earth? Another hospitable planet, beyond the Terran solar system? Or an alternate dimension of Earth's? Narnia? I privately chuckled, but put such foolery aside. Having read as many fiction books as I have, I quickly accepted the possibility of being in another world. The pain I experienced was far more real than the pain felt by dreams. Getting home was not a ready likelihood right now, so the best of my situation I made. I was not alone, for one thing, that was a happy turn.

Beyond the small walls of our establishment, a thin fog seemed to veil the land. "Interesting," Galen muttered softly, as he was wont to do, "if the temple has fallen to disuse, then why did we appear at such a place?" Ben looked up to the sky, placing his hand above his eyes as if he were shielding an invisible sun from blinding him. "I sure wish it was a sunny day, why does it always look like it wants to rain on me?"

The sound of his unhushed voice cracking the silence caused me to jump, and I'm sure the others were set on edge for a moment by it too. Another habit of mine, I would alternately flinch at the smallest perceivable sound, then later be unfazed by no manner of disturbance. The latter even more likely when I was envelopped in a book or in the throes of a song I was playing on the piano.

We cast our gaze to the mists around us, not knowing what to expect or where to go. Those lifeless depths offered no solace, however, and even occaisionally shifted, granting the mind the image of some invisible creature's passage.

Ben, the ever bold, unofficial leader of the friends began to show a sudden drop in confidence. His voiced revealed hints of panic as bid Galen to give Jeremy the last of the potions. Galen stepped forward to do just that, but he first warned Ben. There was neither use nor point to panicking and the effect it had on others could quickly destroy morale. Ben gathered himself quickly, and set off across the ruined room, gesturing Ian to follow. Instead, Owen moved Ian over to his friend, and followed Ben himself, speaking not a word.

Meanwhile, Galen handed the vial of amber liquid to Jeremy, who let the subtle flavour of mint slide down his throught. The pain of his wounds were well relieved, though far from whole. (+5 Jeremy 5/9) They soon followed after Ben and Owen, who discovered a tall stone stairway leading straight out into cloudy daylight. The sight of the sky brought a quick thrill of joy to the assembled teens, who found that for all their ache they had no trouble swiftly ascending outdoors. They found themselves still inside, in the strictest sense of the term, as they yet remained within a large ruined structure, the walls of which never making it above 3 or 4 feet above the ground.

Subject: Raymond vs. Alt-World's Noble Class; Scene 1

Raymond, belly half protesting the miscommunication of sustenance, half quivering with the anticipation of civilized life, cast his shadow over the road's center. He could not know what to expect of these travelers, whether they would carry swords as was the habit in medieval times, or how they would be dressed. He knew only that, barring a full on miracle, they were his best chance of surviving this strange land. As the road wound before him, he caught ever improving sight of the folk approaching. A carriage, pulled by two large horses, accompanied by two mounted figures on either side.

The party arrived at Ray's length of the beaten path. It was clear both sides saw and knew of the other's presence, but what would be done of it still hung in uncertainty. The two guards were each clad in a chainmail tunic and leggings, and a plain white tabbard and helm. With a heel in their horses' flanks, they rode out beyond the carriage to meet Raymond. Their sheathed swords were plainly visible at their sides, and their faces bore no image of hospitality.

Raymond had not yet had chance to speak to them when they drew on the reigns, halting their steeds a good twenty or thirty paces away. Each man sat tall in their saddle, elevated to some ten feet off the ground, making for a rather imposing sight. "Move aside, do not bar our way," the guard on the left commanded. Behind them the carriage drew on, a stocky man grasping the reigns of his team.

Dylan did not hear the sound, but he said nothing as he peered through the moonlit night, trying to catch any trace of it. He rubbed the hair on his chin thoughtfully. Aelistae found releif fron Intella, who also heard the horncall. Dylan you fool, now you're in deeper than your head. How are you planning to get out of this?

Between Intella and Aelistae, the sound was clearly that of some crude goblinoid instrument meant for playing warnings rather than music. Aelistae, even unfamiliar as she was with surface worlder customs, had already assumed the likely truth; the beasts had run into another problem. As the situation lay currently, it would be too easy to merely turn and flee like shadows into the night, thanks to the the distraction. Taking stock of his current companions, Dylan didn't think this option would receive much favourable reaction. Besides, riding to the aid of these warriors (for they would likely have to be to cause such an alarm) could result in an ally in their mission, noble as it were. Of course there was always the chance that whoever was alarming the goblins did not believe in the ideal that 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend', but with his recent luck, Dylan was confident that luck would turn around and hand them a Paladin of Tyr or something.

Turning to the others, Linnix adds, "Well, unless anyone comes up with another suggestion or a potential problem with this plan."

"I think this plan is sound if we can manage to assist these warriors in their struggle. I wouldn't suggest reminding the orcs of our presence too soon, so we should ride directly for the source of the horn. We had better get going quickly, lest we arrive too late or discover our own problems from idling too long. I hope none of our pursuers decide to ignore this new warning else we may be in trouble."

Then she opened her eyes and spoke to him gently, so as to remove any perceived "sting" from her words, "I am known as Intella. Intella Gentrix of Luiren, far to the southeast. I appreciate what you just did. I also understand the why of it. But there might be others in greater need of this power than I. You should seek them out as well, for we must leave here quickly."

Dylan tilted his head to the side, as sign of acknowledgement, then offered his hand to the miniscule woman. "Dylan Geiling, Seeker and, to some, Satyr of a great many places. Originally Cormyr."

Any further conversation was cut off by the Half-Orc child's appearance from inside the tent. The thought of curing the wounds of the others was driven temporarily from Dylan's mind. A while later, while back at the 'camp', Aelistae took over healing with her magic and her wand.

“Do not be afraid to retreat next time,” she whispered to Dylan after singing a quick song of healing to close the last of his wounds. “Nindyn vel’uss kyorl nind ratha thalra elyhinn dal til alust – Those who spend too long watching their backs meet death from the front.”

"Ridiculous!" he said with mock affront. He raised his fist to the heavens with conviction, "I am never afraid to retreat!" He cracked out in a small smile as he lowered his fist. In good times and in bad, it was always the bard's job to lift spirits and wash away despair. The man turned away to look into the night, concealing the smallest of sighs.

"Seriously though, if I thought I was in any danger from those two goblins, I would have retreated. I am aware of my limits and how far I can push this lazy body." Dylan's mind turned back to the sudden brutal clubbing he received. He cringed and brought a hand to his jaw, pained by the memory of the blow after the wound itself was mended.

(Planning and despairing over our situation here)

"I have an idea, I think." Dylan scans the moonlit treeline as he says so. "I can magically create very loud noises, such as a horde of soldiers for example. If I could find a nice place to hide, I could cast the sound as the goblins approached. The sound of a Dire Tiger would send more than a few of them running, I'm sure. The forest sounds like a nice place to hide, don't you think?"

This is the address EDIT: That was a bit ambiguous of a shift in topic. This is the address to the Generator.

Just remember to hit 'Roll the Dice' at least once after you select '5d6 best 3' to make sure you are getting the real deal *shifty eyes*

Beyond which ability score settings, I think it's all pretty self-explanitory. Even if you have to wait 5 minutes between each selection.

Dylan slowly and carefully resheathed his rapier. He couldn't tell if he had let his guard down or if the goblins had merely gotten luckier than he. With one hand he quested for the pouch that he had kept his wand in, the other hand extended for the support of the tents on his way to where the others gathered. His path was tediously slow as he brought himself to the large tent. It wouldn't do to move too fast, risking further injury, though he searched for the wand frantically enough. The little blighters gave him one brutal beating across the bridge of his nose and jaw. Smashed the way he was he had difficulty even speaking, much less any other vocal act, so he would be targeting his cure effects there first.

When he arrived, Aelistae and Talus had gone into the tent, with no visible sign of Linnix. He decided to merely join the party left around the entrance, where verbal magic still had its use.

The wand found, Dylan drew it, expending two uses of its magic upon himself like downing cheap ale. It was enough to stop the bleeding and to fix the mechanisms, as well as to begin the regrowth of new skin, but his wounds were far worse than as would be considered 'light'. He excersized his jaw carefully as he turned to the halfling woman. "Might I ask what your name is?" he asked her as he knelt down. Before any such answer would come, he leveled his wand at her chest and spoke the command word to release another charge.

While he talked with her, he released another two charges for himself, the glow of positive energy washing into him in gentle tides, leaving a flurry of regrowth where they surged. I just bought this wand in Castle Tethyr not even a week ago, he thought with a bit of irritation. Certainly he was hoping for a little more flair than 'rescued by farmer come sniper' when the battle was fought and won. However, he knew better than to sulk about it. He thanked his rescuer, the second arrow from the dark of night came without a visible face, whoever he thought he knew it was.

Aelistae and Talus exited the grand tent with 'Gorg' between them and Linnix trailing behind. Never being one to dismiss others on discrimination, Dylan made no comment about the Half-Orc child. Indeed, he had something of a weakness for children. So he listened to the child with likely less compassion than Artanis, but not without empathy.

Hardly given to warning, the child suddenly ran, as frightened young creatures were wont to do. The harmonic strum of bowstring ended the chorus of orcish words with a sudden, jarring thump. Dylan recognized the need for stealth in their operations, but he could not justify the need for deadly force with himself yet. Of course, it wouldn't matter in a few seconds, the drums from the tent were beaten and not even the magical silence could erase their mark on the night air.

"Come, we should leave quickly- like five minutes ago."
