That'll teach Bolikar to shirk away from a one-on-one fight with Xaris. Clearly it was Karma for such a dishonourable rejection that caused him to fall to the various attacks thrown at him. Go get him now, Jozan, and teach him some manners! Specifically teach him that 'Enlarge Person' does not actually make you the 'bigger man' XD.

I'll just throw a question in here; About how far away are Linnix and Aelistae, and more importantly how many and what kind of obstacles block Dylan from getting to either of them?

But it may be just that a lunitic is what you're looking for.

Why must my body reject any attempt to focus attention on this essay? What have I done to it now?

Two-Four Male-Female ratio is nothing. As Ginafae could tell you, back when Kaelyn style was just starting, a total of one forest gnome barbarian made up the entire male population. By comparison there were...counting... five girls including a drow and an aasimar.

Subject: Oh deary me~

I never meant any offense, emybear, I enjoyed the subtle wit of your poem. It's half of the reason for which I decided to roll off my own poem. (The other half of the reason was to prove that Reralae isn't the only one between the two of us who can compose).

My verse style is even rather unoriginal- I used directly the format of Shakesperean Sonnets, A B A B C D C D E F E F G G (when it comes to rhymes) In my English 240 class (for some reason 1st year U of C courses are 200-level) we were looking at Sonnets recently, which got me thinking about what would happen if I did something myself. The answer is above. I suppose I was a tad premature in inviting everybody, but the whimsical nature of the idea was just too good.

P.S. Yay, I'm a nice guy ^-^

Subject: The more the merrier- or sommat like that

Hmmm... why let Reralae have all the fun with poetry?

O my Muse, what form would you now take?
So shy and outgoing, blatant and subtle,
My thoughts quicken and stir in thy wake,
Where without you they would but muddle.
O my Muse, with what visage do you I grace?
Eager with all reservation, bawdy, serene,
I am but thy instrument, your hand, my mace,
Cautious, careless, and more have you been.
O my magnificient Muse, mercurial thy state;
Wander as you will, but forget not home,
And tales of your travels to me you relate,
For thy heart knows mine like open tome.
O my Muse, multi-faceted is thy countenance,
So my Muse, with which do you next advance?

Goodness, spur of the moment poetry, and it flowed so quickly right up until the line with 'mace'. Funny, I asked my brother what rhymed with 'grace' and we both had the same first instinct. I decided it was too funny not to actually use. Though after that point, I fell into distraction by various sources.

To usurp this thread from its creator, I invite anyone else who has ever felt the urge to throw down some random poetry here. After all, not all of us are prolific poets enough to justify a thread of our own like Reralae

Topic: Auguries of Destruction - The Linsemptus
Subject: Shy, young Willow transforms into a warrior.

When Willow went for bed, she didn't take her armour off, instead choosing to sleep in full gear. Her swords she unbuckled and laid next to her on the ground, close enough to easily grab if there was trouble. Her childhood was reinforced with the idea that a man alone in the wild had to sleep lightly or loose his life. Her troubled life during the years when nature rallied against itself only reinforced this fact, applied instead to a girl.

Not long into her slumber, a shout brought her to full consciousness. Her senses leapt out to determine the disquiet as her instincts brought her hands to the grips of her swords. Another shout followed the first directly, Akihiko nearly growled, "I see it! Everyone! Wake up!"

Knowing her world my by sound than by sight for the first few seconds, the sounds of shouting and of combat assailed her ears. Her pulse quickened, her body translated into high-response mode as she tried to get to her feet, where she would stand a fighting chance against this ambush.

Willow was on her feet before most of the sleepers had chance to get up. With a jerk, she flung the sheaths off her swords, and she was fully equipped for battle. Since she bought her rather costly suit of armour so long ago, it had hardly seen the need for real use, with the last year so tame. It kept brilliantly, however, for purposes of show and formal function, and was almost as comfortable as her civilian clothes. Now she was learning how much of a benefit that lightness of her armour was, particularly with the way it let her body move so freely.

Three of her giant paces away, Yin was on his back, practically defenceless against a thin, ghostly figure whose body flickered different colours. Her normally timid and quiet voice rose to shout like any of the others. "Yin, get out of there!" She bore down on the gaunt creature as Yin rolled out of the way. She wound her right arm back and prepared to deliver a powerful sweeping slash to the miniature creature. She aimed her attack low, to cleave deep into the centre of mass of this Scout creature that came only as tall as her elbow.

EDIT: Attached a little more into the post.
The little creature was like nothing else she had ever encountered before. Was this what the Linsemptus were? The tall one looked more like a human, despite its inhuman height. A tiny crack of white light remained in the air where the Linsemptus swung its blade. Was this more magic? The image of the mage's disappearance back at Wanqir refreshed itself in her memory. Whatever these Linsemptus were, wherever they came from, they were going to meet a staunch opposition if they were to keep up such lousy manners.

---------------------------------/End Edit
(Assuming, of course, that none of the Linsempti choose to change targets to Willow between the first round’s standing up and the second round’s attack. Time to break out for a real fight (I know most of you have had a decent exchange already, but so far the best action I’ve got is smacking merciful swords around with the guy I’m about to rescue [hopefully]. Here’s to the first group combat, having lost a number of possible party members on the way up. Oh, yeah, Hammer, will Banatan be making an appearance? Or are we keeping him away, as this battle looks pretty well incorporeal?)

(My goodness, how often I find myself writing the word 'adrenaline' in a battle post)

Topic: Which Greek God are You?
Subject: I told ya I'd do it eventually

Actually, according to Hesiod's Theogony (theos=god, gonos=generation/creation) Zeus got to lead because he was the wittiest (got lucky too, when his mother saved him, the youngest, from being eaten by Kronos) and managed to trick Kronos into belching up his older brothers, Poseidon and Hades. Of course, Greek Mythology was pretty much given it's flavour by the poets, having no religious texts otherwise.

Personally I think I'd be Apollo. The whole musician thing, and that he is seen as a less masculine god. The whole youthful grace thing would be nice, but he has me thrown off at archery (I enter rage) and I admit that shooting plague like arrows off my bow is something I haven't quite gotten the hang of. Much of the things about him I enjoy.

Just to take a walk on the wild side, I decided to do both quizes. (I find out later of course, That Reralae had this idea first *sulk*)

Well, the post I have been promising took off this evening, enjoy! I decided to go ahead and deliver an exposition of Dylan's background, since it was pretty well happening all around. I realized that I had been forgetting to award CD points, so those who may have deserved them in the past will (probably) receive one from me this time (hehe, just when everyone is suddenly shooting into full throw of their character's exposition, at least those who weren't already doing that)

Topic: Forgotten Realms: The Unsung Heroes
Subject: The musician is late for his own performance. Disgraceful

Thrown back and forth, the tides of war immediately around Dylan swelled and crested, only to drop away suddenly. His companion, summoned from another realm for the sole purpose of aiding his conquest over the evil goblinoids, tore at repulsive flesh and shredded the opposition. More than a few of the loathsome beasties fell startled when their daggers failed to slay the thick man after so clean a shot had been ridden through his loose jacket. When a kill left him with a second to think, Dylan devoted it to customer satisfaction in his shirt of mithril. Every copper of that purchase was worth it. Not that the goblins never drew blood.

The slight blood loss had the effect of making Dylan a tad giddy in his fight. The odds somehow didn't seem so bad, that the strongest fighters lay on the other side of a wall made of tiny angry dagger-bearer, Bolikar's imminent arrival would mean no good, that there was a pair of drow fighting head-to-head directly over the battlefield. His wits returned to him in a sudden jarring thud. The same motion that crushed the mounted knight also crushed the violinist's confidence. “I am Bolikar! You shall kneel before my might, voluntarily, or after I tear out your kneecaps it makes no difference to me!” Surely they would all die in futility tonight.

Then suddenly a clear falsetto voice rang out literally above the hue and cry.

"Love, love is a verb,“

Damn, that woman has a fine voice. Like an elixir, the words revived Dylan's spirit. He chastised himself for despairing, was it not, after all, the job of the bard to make the best of a bad situation?

“Love, love is a verb,
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath."

The song began to take shape out of Aelistae's voice, but it needed a boost of spirit. A touch that only a person who has been studying the subtle inflection and expression of music with great dedication could give. Dylan fell back from as many enemies as he could. With adrenaline-addled frustration he knew his retreat would soon be chased after and he would have to play and dodge at the same time. With his left hand he took his instrument case off his back, then with it still in hand, held his sheath to steady it.

"Gentle impulsion
Shakes me, makes me lighter
Fearless on my breath.”

The rapier clicked home and his bow sprung from its case. With movements beaten into his very existence by repetition, his violin cast aside the case that protected it from weather on his many travels and rose to the challenge of performance. Such a hostile audience today.

The song stopped for the space of a gulp and a quick breath. It was not the first song that came to mind when Dylan felt the need to inspire courage and determination. Deep, throaty roars in the language of the Dragons had quite the power for whipping up excitement and alacrity. The poetic victory was too great to resist, though. The hundreds of muse-inspired works about the undying strength of love would take on a beautiful irony in the battlefield.

Admittedly Dylan was the kind of musician who would prefer an audience in a tavern, receiving lodgings and food for his efforts, as well as the odd extra coin. He might have been content with that life too, but for the gnawing desire to seek out and harness the same force that inspired the young Geiling lad to take on this lifestyle. The Primal Music. After he achieve a degree of skill and fame as a musician, Dylan began to know in his heart that entertaining a crowd of smiling peasants in a tavern - taking them away from their daily toil and transporting them to a different world - was not where he would find something so untamable as the Primal Music.

Trusting in Milil's guidance and praying for Tymora's beneficence, Dylan found himself in many a stange place, Bolikar's keep not the least of which. When Aelistae's voice picked up the song where she left off, she was accompanied by a burst of violin, gently sustaining her melody and supporting her tone. By the time the next verse rolled along, Dylan's rich tenor took up a deep melody to complement Aelistae's crystal falsetto.

(Dylan is taking a 5-ft step away from as many enemies as possible, with the underlaying goal of getting over to Linnix. The wolf will fill in Dylan's previous spot with a 5-ft step [unless the DM rules against such direct control over creatures I don't actually have control over (admittedly, I would)] For those who don't know every musical term, falsetto is a higher range of the human voice above soprano, typically reserved for women and young boys. Oh yeah, I'm beginning Inspire Courage, and continuing until something occurs that might force me to reconsider my actions.)

My Greek and Roman Studies - Mythology Tutorial group has a running joke about how Zeus was such a philanderer. Examples include the fact that he has fathered children in about any form imaginable - I guess when you're that good, bestiality doesn't matter much anymore. Our favourite is when he fathered (either Perseus or Theseus) by empregnating the hero's mother by raining a golden shower on her.

I'll pop by the link later, when I have more time. (If I remember, of course.

Subject: More unnecessary pennies! Glee!

Well, break out the technical details why don't ya? I have to admit, this discussion almost registers in the area of amusing (well, I suppose that's because I don't need to argue anything)

I would just like to mention that even creatures with abilities that function once/day (or etc.) are not relying on bodily rest, but for the energies that control this function of theirs to replenish after however long it takes.

Most specifically I refer to Spell-Like abilities, because those are the most common things you see in non-player creatures that take effect #/day times. What I learned of this topic I derived from a series of articles;

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040413a

If you wish to view the other 3 parts of the article, scroll to the bottom. When you see a box labeled "Recent Rules of the Game" seek the 'MORE' button in the bottom right-hand corner. Near the bottom of the resulting list on the next page you will find "All About Spell-Like Abilities (Part ~)"

I hope my comments, like so many pairs of pennies has given you a worthy two-cents. ^-^

Subject: I think

For Daily Abilities, it is not necessarily the rest that recharges them, but the fact that they've been regenerating over a certain amount of time (hence, 24 hours between uses) Though as for that, some abilities may require not only 24 hours down time, but that your body and mental state are entirely refreshed (by, say, a nap)

I wonder if I annoy my dungeon/game masters when I interperet rules for them? *musing*

Subject: strategy you say?

If Bolikar throws anymore rocks, I shall have vivid images of Mini-Fridges sailing through the air and crushing random people, thanks to an earlier description.

I'm probably going to go a simple route; step back, sheath, and start singing. If Linnix is very close, I might just flank her, to protect one of both of our sides from an enemy. If we cluster together (those of us weaklings) we can save ourselves from being surrounded individually, though should Bolikar throw a boulder our way, the (however many of us gather together) of us are all dead.

Considering that I can let my music take affect without me for 5 rounds, I can make good use of that time fighting again.

To Talus: If you have some feat or another (Precise Shot?) that allows you to land shots directly, I would recommend going for the Spider-Kisser. If not, it is a touch attack, so -4 to avoid Aelistae shouldn't prevent every attack, but you may wish to consider other targets.

Watch out for low-flying mini-fridges

Even if I was planning to do something other than sing, Aelistae has forced my hand. No self-respecting Bard lets a party member get the music out alone. When I get home and am relieved of a portion of this homework-y burden, I shall write up a neat post to fill in when Aelistae pauses to chug the potion.

Whatever the outcome of this, it's going to be fun.

In light of some recent insight into the nature of divinities and religion in Audalis, Miran has just become a follower of Telamor, god of art. Magic in Audalis is pretty uncommon, so I have noticed, so it is through works of illusion that Miran displays his devotion. Other notable gods for his oaths and lip-service include Thirkell of Trickery, and Falloes of the Hopeless, Lost, and Needy (this last one is pretty obvious I believe).

I was wondering whether it would be more helpful to just go right into singing or to continue thinning the herd, input is great. I will begin singing as soon as ideally possible.
