Subject: Outta Control!

((OOC: Use of magic was unnecessary: he was about to reveal it anyway ^^ I won't use details like this in the rolls in future, I'll just give the rolls and results.))

"An'Jantar, I have to know if there's anything we should expect..."

[Roll 20+Will+Charisma vs 20+Will.
20 + 8 = 28
6 + 1 = 7
Success.]

"That is the problem, Varis," the councillor replied, "... I don't know what's coming. But I feel a bad wind coming on, and I can see the signs. One of the councillors, the Defence Councillor, seems to be mustering great support. I just need someone I... KNOW... I can trust. You proved that to me..."

He began again.

"The foreigner isn't the problem here. He isn't the element that needs watching, I think..."

Losing his cool, he sputtered out, "I really don't have a clue, that's the bad thing. This situation is out of my control, and I need your help."

Okay, before I reply I need a couple of quick pieces of information. Firstly, if my character knows, why a Duel of Knowledge may be dangerous. And Secondly, how much 500 Electrum roughly is. I imagine a princely sum for such a simple task, but I'm unsure.

P.S. Probably could mention it all in the Q&A Thread for Mysterion's benefit.

1) A Duel of Knowledge isn't dangerous in any way. It's literally a debate on who-knows-the-most. :p Which is what should scare the group the most, as there is no reason for the duel to NEED "guards".

2) 500 Electrum... well, a regular longsword is worth about 200. That said, most people couldn't afford one, so this IS quite a big sum in pauper terms. In adventurer terms, it's just above average pay for a task, but this isn't anything big or hard. So Varis should be quite worried by the fact that the councillor is giving that much for a simple task.

"I have formed us in the guise of mercenaries, if you have not already heard, and though I have little need of riches at this point in my life...Those I travel with will expect rewards of some kind."

"You appear ill at ease. Don't worry, for if my suspicions are true, then you will have all you can get as a reward... if not, then I will reward you nonetheless for your time and effort."
An'Jantar frowned and took a swig from his tankard, "I hope you don't mind if I make this quick. Tonight is to be a duel of knowledge between the Councillor of Magic and a foreigner who has decided to challenge him. I would like you all to be in the area in case, as I fear the worst. Call it intuition."
A pause.
"Five hundred Electrum each, paid full in advance as a retainer, if you accept, plus more if your actual help is needed."

If you'll excuse, Mysterion, Celtia is the one to advance the plotline here :p

EDIT: Aaaaah yes, there IS another metal from Earth. A natural alloy, Electrum, which you all should know ^^ On Anchor they haven't managed to separate the gold and silver so it's just another metal for them.

Take as many liberties as you wish. Anything that doesn't work I'll take you up on, but taking liberties with things just makes the world better.

So a bit of backstory:
Deckie Wine was originally, on Deck, made from the fermented leaves of the Root plant. The flavour was deep, bittersweet.
The descendants that came to Anchor, finding no Roots (as they don't grow on Anchor) managed to find a perfectly serviceable plant called Timoa, and used the leaves to make wine. They found to their pleasure that it was very similar, and so they took up winemaking once more.

Ale, lager and the other beers of Anchor are made from grass seeds (this makes sense. If you don't think it does, I can just say it's magical grass, and that explains everything. xD )

NOTE: The only animal on Anchor that is the same as on Earth is the human, and the only plant that's the same is grass.
Just like the only metal the same is Ferrum.
Rocks don't really have names, but there are lots of types of various colours and densities. But I suspect geology isn't the main concern of the players ^^

"The ale sounds fine," Bon said simply before following DHarem and sitting down at the table, relaxing similarly.

Thomas frowned expressively, then replied, "Got any cider, no, the ale seems a better choice, thanks!"

The tavernkeep took a few moments to pour the ales, and took them to the various people, before pouring a goblet of wine for DHarem.

Thomas grinned and leant on the bar, talking to the lager-drinking patron.
"Why so sad, stranger?"
The man stared back at him with the strangest of expressions, or... fear.
"I'm Thomas, some call me Tommy, I'm a warrior with plate armour as you can see. And I have a longsword!"
Bon sighed in sympathy with the man at the bar...

----------------------

"Councillor An'Jantar Ulrick. It is wonderful to see you once again."
"Good to see you too, Caese," An'Jantar replied before extending his hand for a vigourous handshake. "We can speak freely here, for as you have no doubt noticed this district is, proverbially speaking, 'going downhill'. Tithuana is in a bad period, I can feel it in my bones."
He sighed, before continuing, "I need your help, as I know I can trust you."

Subject: Chapter One: Propositions

The sun is rising over the town of Tithuana. Early morning when the group arrives at the Giant Dwarf tavern, near the main gates, in the lower part of the city.

The four step forward and reach the front door of this ordinary tavern. The streets seem empty, but they all know that this is the fourth day of the Knowledge Festival of Tithuana, a great event: traditions dictate that six days are spent to research - be it through books or through actual discovery - and that the seventh day be spent teaching at least seven people something that they didn't know before.
There are even Knowledge "duels" where two well-known people face off for about half an hour, and whoever teaches the other the most wins.

But now they enter the tavern, and a very classic tavern scene meets the eye, with scattered wooden tables and patrons, centred on the bar area in a circular manner.
To the group's right as they enter is a group of about a dozen people drinking mainly weak mead. The taverner sits on a stool behind the bar, serving a patron a mug of lager, whilst a well-dressed man sits alone at a big table in the far corner of the room.

As the group approaches the bar the man turns to them and greets them with a small, cordial salute, "Welcome to the Giant Dwarf tavern, the only greater paradox being just how good our home-brewed ale is! What can I get you all?"

Hello! Welcome to the Inn!

I'd have loved to join in, but I'm unavailable for big, serious ventures such as this.
Good luck finding players, as I might have to mention that at the moment there are more games opening than players available to play, so don't worry if you don't get anyone.

Have fun!

No need to worry about the rules or anything, I'll guide you through that.

So far, one player has finished their character sheet. I'll send you a copy of the empty character sheet and let you deal with backstory and whatnot then help you fill the rest ^^

If you have any questions, my PM inbox is open!

As the barmaid brought the beef roast, it was quickly finished and the plate cleaned quite completely.

“Anyone fancy singing for a spell? I’ve got a harp here that’s itchin’ to be played, an’ sometimes she and I don’t get along too well if I start opening my mouth.”

Andrew grinned, and stood up, heading for the bar.
"Do you make your own bread here?"
The bartender replied, "Yes, why?"
"Might I borrow one of your baking boards?"

Subject: Andrew Nero, enter stage right.

Andrew pushed open the door and headed straight to the bar, in a single motion.
"Mead, please."

Without further ado he collapsed into a chair, dropping his rucksack on the floor unceremoniously and leaning back.

It was a long road to Firetop Mountain, and he was sure that even wiht the guidance of Rhalina he was sure to get lost a few times, and undoubtedly arrive just too late.
But it wasn't the time to be worrying about that. As the barmaid brought his drink over his belly rumbled, and priorities became clear.

"What food do you serve?" he asked the barmaid as she left.
"Today is a spicy fish soup, we also have beef roast and-"
"Beef roast sounds fine, thanks."
"Of course, sir," Sarah finished as she walked away.

Andrew's gaze settled on the man with the stack of instruments... it had always been Andrew's dream to make music. However, the only instrument he knew how to play was the bread oven or the bandage; however he HAD played a bread board when he was young, helping a local bard by giving rythmn.
He smiled as the man caught his eye, and a wink was returned.

He took a swig of his mead - not a very good mead, but it had been a long time since he had had some, so he was glad to have it - and leaned back in his chair with a big grin, shutting his eyes.

Topic: Footprints Recruitment
Subject: Races

For this adventure, I'll allow Tithuanans, Ethronans and Deckies due to geographical proximity. The race will give you a cultural background for character and attribute decision.

Tituanan culture is based on knowledge and logic. Art and understanding. Exploring and adventuring is natural, as you discover new things.

Ethronan culture can be divided into two forms: new Ethronans and classic Ethronans.
The latter follow the old ways of war and conquering, frowning at most art and science, whereas the former have learnt from the past that violence isn't all that's important.

The culture of the Deckies is of champions, warriors seeking honour and glory in combat. This doesn't stop them from appreciating finer things such as literature and art, they just like fighting.

If anyone wants to join this I can give more information on races, cultures and "classes" via PM.

Topic: Footprints Recruitment
Subject: Characters

Characters will be based on a set of attributes:

-Strength: Brute force. Name says it all.
-Toughness: Resilience, resistance to stuff.
-Agility: Bodily speed, celerity, rapidity.
-Finesse: Perception and manual dexterity.
-Knowledge: Memory and, er, knowledge.
-Charisma: Knowledge of how to communicate, and deal with people.
-Willpower: Do I need to explain this?
-Luck: This is also quite simple.

The players need to give the character a backstory and appearance. The backstory will reflect on what Skills (3.x Feats) the character has. These Skills are made up by the player, basically bonuses to certain actions.
You can get away with any ability you can justify with a backstory.

XP is gained through many methods, be it questing, killing or defeating enemies, roleplaying WELL or even for simple badassity.
Every level, the character gains one attribute point and one skill to choose (the GM will of course make sure it's not too powerful) and the GM gives a second skill (to aid in his domination of the characters )

If or when anyone gets interested by the game, I'll give a character sheet to fill out.

EDIT: Just occured to me to list a few archetypical "classes", to help in character creation. These are mainly based on guilds or associations, and are simply nominal.

Champion: The Champion Guild is composed of those fearless warriors who seek to become masters of combat... hmmm.

Runemaster: Mages who aim to perfect their usage of runes and push the ancient symbols beyond their limits.

Monk: Monasteries accept followers of most ideals, some limiting themselves to certain views of the world. The followers of the disciplines tend to mix practical, spiritual and religious. Examples are the Wild Wind Monastery, whose monks train in defence from magical attacks, and the Thin Line monks, who are devoted to the natural balance of things.

Paladin: The Temple guild organises the paladins of many deities and beliefs and attempts to avoid conflict. These are priests that have taken up weapons to promote their version of things, and defeat all opposition.
