Subject: Interested in Redwall / Mistmantle -esque game with an "old school" feel?

Hey Everyone,

Looking to see if there is some interest in playing a Redwall / Mistmantle -esque game.

Players would take on the role of good anthropomorphic animal heros tries to protect their realm from wild and evil beasts.

The game system uses a stripped down, D6 mechanic which is reminds me of some old-school systems. Easy and fast character creation. Quick and easy game play.

Player Character animal choices include Badgers, Hares, Hedgehods, Mice, Moles, Otters, and Squirrels.

Player Character class choices include Friars (clerics), Rogues (thieves), Scouts (rangers), Talespinners (bards), Wayfarers (martial arts), Warriors (fighters), Wizards (mages), and Woodwise (druids).

The setting is typical medieval fantasy with a noble, good feel (think of the heros from Redwall, Mistmantle, and Tolkien's work). The adventure would be fairly short (maybe 4-5 months of online gaming). Posting frequency would be two posts per week. Characters would start off a level one characters.

I am hoping to do the recruitment and character creation through the Christmas season, with the game kicking off in the new year.

I'm looking for 4-5 brave heros. Anyone interested?
Let me know by posting here what creature and class you would be interested in exploring.

Thanks,
Ayrn

"Well, seeing as it was my suggestion," Wembley started. "I am ready to go." He paused for a moment.

"But I was kind of thinking, maybe, we'd all go back through at the same time... like how we went through to get here. What do you think?"

As the lights came back on, Wembley gave a little squeak of surprise. "Crow! Whew! You spooked me. I was just thinking we should lure the wood-stick warrior into the portal and see how he gets along with the clean-a-thing. But, looks like your kin has everything under control."

Wembley gives Crow a pat on the arm and makes his way over to where others are beginning to gather around the wood stick warrior. Wembley scoops up the wooden sword and drops his bone club. Ah! Now that's a bit better!

The group puts out a suggestion to go up the stairs. "Sounds like a fine plan to me. But I was thinking... think we should check to see what would happen if we stepped back through the portal? I'm just wondering if it leads back to the place we were just at, or if it teleports us to a whole new adventure. What do you think? Should we test it out first?"

Al,

I was hoping that maybe Wembley wouldn't make it to the portal this round, and maybe wait until the Khord's light spell takes effect.

If he does make it there in one round, then what the heck, he'll go through. (It's a lunch time romp, right?! ).

Thanks!

Hey! Thanks, guys, for your kind words and encouragement. I've just been reading through the Dragonlance Chronicles again. So there's definitely some Tas/ kender-love pouring through.

Dragonlance was one of the first series that got me really hooked into fantasy fiction. My son is now right about the same age, so we are reading it at the same time. Good fun! Nice trip down memory lane too.

Anyway, like Alacrity said, the party interaction here is fun. In some ways, it reminds me of the Dragonlance companions -- just a wide range of characters all trying to survive while working through their junk. The stuff of legends!

"Vodka," Wembley said, as he finished examining another shelf of bottles. "Vodka, vodka, vodka... someone has got a lot of love for the drink. Whoever set this up even arranged the bottles by their proof content. That's a bit much, if you ask me."

The cidal sighed. Not much of a story here, he thought to himself. Maybe I could make up a song... Oh! Yes! Something like... ninety-nine bottles of vodka on the shelves, ninety-nine bottles of vodka... nah... that will never catch...

The sudden appearance of the man in black brightened up cidal's face.

"Hullo there, good fellow!" But the man in black seemed more intent on Alan the mage. Perhaps I should have checked for traps... The lights in the room sudden went out. Ugh... the syl's not gonna let me hear the end of this.

Wembley moved towards the wall, trying to make his way over to the portal they had entered through. Perhaps there's something there that can help us. And maybe the man in black won't follow. And at least there's light back there and a warm fire...

OOC:Wembley is trying to move silently back towards the portal we came through.

Subject: Search the room for something interesting

Wembley followed the others in through the portal which deposited the group into what seemed to be the wine cellar.

"Someone likes their drink." Wembley muttered to himself as he searched the room for something interesting.

OOC: Search the room for secret doors or items overlooked first a first glance.

When Dudley wondered out loud which way the group should proceed, the cidal mage piped up, "Well, I'd prefer to greet the master of the house. I'd say let's go up. Though, maybe we should look around this cellar first."

He continued his search, while telling his story, "It reminds me of this ol' dank hole under the Tavern at the Edge of Bayris. That place has such a fine selection of drinks from the five nations and even a few from the Sylvarii kingdoms. Had a serving girl there, Anya, a beautiful loaven from Goodhome... sweet lass with honey brown hair and a delightful apple bottom.

"It was a quick affair... that how she liked her lads. Not fond of long relationships, that one. But what she lacked in faithfulness, she more than made up for in passion."

Wembley grinned with the fond memory, before coming back to the story. "What was I saying? Oh, yes. The Tavern at the Edge of Bayris... it had a cellar like this, stocked full. Anya took me down there one night. The owner had a secret stash, though. A little hidey-hole where he kept the finest bottles. Maybe our host has a little hidey-hole too..."

After searching the room and as the group prepares to move on, Wembley pipes up, "Hey! Do you think we should try going back though the portal we just came through? Just to see if it brings us back the way we came?"

OOC: I'm searching, but if there is nothing of interest beyond the bottles, I'm good to move on. I vote going up, but will be fine with either option.

Come home from my work weekend to a round of family trips to the hospital (wee one needed stitches last night), dentist appointments (I've got a tooth infection), and doctor appointments (girl#2 needs to get her ears checked).

Anyway, no post from me this week. Wembley will from the mage through the portal. He'll grab a femur bone for a staff and choose a book over the bottle (the one about pixie and fairies sounds good). If he's able to put the book with his spell book, all the better. Otherwise, he'll carry it too.

Thanks!

I was actually thinking of the femur bone from one of the skeletons in the closet. What type of creatures are the skeletons in the closet from anyway? Humanoid?

Anyway, I was looking to use one of them bones.

I figured all the bottles were in the backpack, save perhaps one bottle of alcohol we keep passing around. {..hic...}

Regarding books, how about if Dudley take two of them (Conjuring Demons..., and the History book) and Wembley will carry the third one (Pixies and the like...)?

Thanks!

Is there anything in the rooms that Wembley might substitute as a staff? Like a stick from the broken cage? Or a femur bone from one of the skeletons?

Also, I think I'd like to take the books with us. Can Dudley fit them in his backpack?

"Huh..." Wembley said, very much underwhelmed by the action before him. Looking to the Khord, he tried his best to summarize the situation, "So, basically, you just say some words to your god, and he goes, 'Alright, then.' And you tell the unliving to stop and... then... they do. Is that about right?"

OOC: Assuming some sort of answer...

"Huh," the Cidal continued. "The rats in Bayris were WAY more exciting. Put up a better fight too."

With the unliving taken care of, the little mage moved over to the closet. "Maybe there's something more exciting in here," he piped up, hopefully, as he opened the door.

Wembley eagerly waited as the clerics called on their gods and prepared to destroy the unliving mice and cat. He nudged Mal and,in a loud whisper, said, "This is going to be great! I've never seen a priest banish the unliving before! I've never still the unliving before for that matter, well, except for those dead mice in the other room. I saw rat brawl the other week, back in Bayris. Tied two rats by their tails... big, mean ones, the size of alley tommies, with maybe a half foot of rope connecting their two tails together. Tossed them into square with this old tommy. Now, he did look half dead... torn ear and stub for a tail...."

The cidal continues to prattle with his story, regardless of who's listening, until the door opens.

As the sickly mice make their way toward the group, Wembley closes the door shut once more. "Maybe we should try the portal," the cidal smiled back to the rest of his companions. Unless...

OOC:I'm curious if maybe we could use the cleaning bot to clean up of the mice. Is there a way to release it in to the other room with the cat and mice?

Wembley removed the various decanters, tumblers and vials from the cabinet and placed them on the table with the food. He tried to sniff them to see if any smelled like common spirits one might find at a tavern.

OOC:If any smell like a common alcoholic beverage (whiskey, brandy, wine, etc), Wembley will point them out to the group.

Having laid them out, Wembley went and helped himself to his kin's food spread. "Thank you kindly, Dudley, for sharing this table with us. The gods bless you."

As he ate, the cidal listened intently to his Syl friend, Alan, share the most wonderful story of the wizard in love with the Damned Queen on Sendria. "That was a fantastic story, Alan! Do you think it's true? If it is, I can't wait to explore this place! Who knows where this adventure will take us!"

Mal suggested that, perhaps, their adventure might start with the simple wooden door... and that, perhaps, Wembley might give it a once over to make sure it wasn't trapped by one of Putnum's deadly surprises.

"Suh thg!" Wembley replied, stuffing the list bit of bread in his mouth. Placing his ear to the door, Wembley listened carefully while, at the same time, examining the door and surrounding wall for any noticeable traps.

OOC: Listen and Find/Remove checks, please. If there are no traps noticeable, Wembley will open the door. If there are traps, he'll attempt to remove them and then open the door.

Subject: I like the type, but not the class (much)

I'm a fan of the performer-type character, but not the bard class (though, truthfully, there are few classes I would want to take all the way through). But, as an archtype, I like the "showman", the "jester", the "ringmaster", the "cheerleader" and the "story-teller".

I've often thought about (but haven't gotten around to putting it to text) creating a travelling troupe of performers (the ringmaster, the strongman, the acrobat/escape artist, the animal tamer and the illusionist) that travelled around Pardinal.

In game mechanics terms, I appreciate what Pathfinder has done for the Bard class with it's "Archtypes".
