Philosopher... just sent you a PM. Not sure if I can play yet as I'm trying to start my own SW game. But if that doesn't get off the ground, I might be down for this.

Subject: Games to check out

KingRat,

Welcome to the Inn! We hope your stay is pleasant... and that you stay FOREVER! (Bwahahahahaha!)

For real, though... three games are currently looking for new players:

The webmaster, Olan (T_catt1) is starting up a semi-free form Star Trek adventure.

Philosopher is looking at beginning a heroic fantasy adventure in his own homebrew setting using the Pathfinder ruleset (you can find the core rules SRD at www.d20pfsrd.com, I believe... great site...).

And I am looking at beginning a Star Wars games in either the Clone Wars or Rebellion era. The game is using the SAGA edition ruleset, but the characters are pre-gen.

You can check out the recruitment threads out for these games under the Recruitment forum. Even if you are not familiar with the rulesets, the DM/GMs tend to do most/all of the dice rolling, so no worries there. Beyond that, I'm sure each of the GM/DMs would be willing to help you put together a character for the game if needed.

Good luck and don't feed the Grugg (he's on a special diet).

Peace!

The Clone Wars adventure would really be made up of all pregen clones (except the Jedi and the droid), though each trooper, while good at combat, would have a focus (i.e. heavy weapons, sniper, medic, leadership, etc).

In the rebel alliance adventure, the pregen characters would have similiar foci (heavy weapon, sniper, medic, leadership, etc), but I would probably leave players some options on race selection.

In both adventures, I will leave players to develop their characters' personalities and names. I know it's not a lot of "customization", but that's what I'm looking to do, so... yeah... if you're still interested, chime in!

Subject: Interest in another Star Wars game

Hey All,

With the return of another season of the Clone Wars, I am considering starting up another Star Wars game. I have two ideas, both somewhat military-based:

Option 1: A Clone Wars military adventure to stop a separatist plot. Characters would be mostly pregen, roughly level 7 and limited to 1 Jedi, a group of clone troopers (2 - 4), and maybe a droid.

Option 2: A Rebel Alliance military adventure to harass Imperial forces. Characters would be have more flexible with regards to race, but there would be no Jedi, though maybe a force-sensitive character. Characters would again be mostly pregen and around level 7.

Before you chime in, consider the following:

1) While I love Star Wars, my knowledge of Star Wars cannon is limited to just the movies and the animated clone wars series. If you're super cannon about your Star Wars, this game is probably not for you.

2) I'm looking for dedicated players! I will probably be looking for two posts per week in set time slot. I will update the game Mondays between 12:00 - 11:59 PM (there abouts) and again on Friday (some time during the day/evening). This means you will need to put in your updates between Tuesday - Thursday, and again between Saturday and Monday noon. If you do not think you can keep this pace, do not sign up for this game. If you miss an update without letting me know, I NPC your character. 2 weeks of missed updates, the character becomes an NPC permenately. I will work towards getting you the players an up-to-date posting schedule for when I will and will not be updating the game (so you are not left wondering).

3) I am looking to begin in-game posting near the beginning of Novemeber (between Nov 1 - 15), depending on interest.

4) Both options will be using the SAGA Edition rules set. However, as the characters are mostly pre-gen and I do most (probably all) of the rolling, you don't really need to worry much about the rules system.

4) If you are still interested, for the moment, please just chime in with which option you are interested in. If it doesn't matter to you, please state that as well.

Thanks!
Ayrn

Subject: What do we know?

A couple more questions:

1) Do we know where the nearest command post is? How far away is it? And in which direction? (i.e. is this movement to the trench bringing us closer or further away?)

2) I am assuming we all at least know each other's names already, having been either introduced at a briefing, or on the ship ride over. (If I'm wrong let me know) I'm also asuming we have a general sense of the role each of us is to play (or at least Cam, as the commanding officer, does). i.e. Fayt is our hacker, the Gran is a sniper, etc. I'm wondering if we've worked together before? Have we completed any other missions together?

Thanks!

Subject: Sergeant Cam: What's the mission?

Sergeant Cam's body rocked and swayed almost as one with the movement of the ship. He's been in situations like this before and there was no fear for him. You just need to resign yourself to the moment and trust your brothers, his internal assured him.

As the gunship prepared to make landfall, Cam placed his bucket on his head, allowing his eyes to adjust to visor and the HUD readings. Drawing his rifle, he checked the power level and adjusted the stock.

Turning to his team, the sergeant sighed inwardly. It was one things to entrust your life to your brothers, but he wasn't sure about this ragtag group yet. Were the conditioned well enough? Would they falter in the chaos of the battlefield? It was hard to tell.

"Here's the plan, mates," Cam spoke over the din of noise around them. "We jump out right after the troopers and make for cover, try to stick close and, if we're separated, regroup as quickly as possible. We got a mission to complete. Regardless of whether you're in it for the credits, glory or honour, we aren't getting paid until we complete the mission... so, let's get it done."

The countdown to landfall had begun and the sergeant unbuckled himself and released the restraining bolts on the droid. "Steady! Go! Go! Go!"

Cam jumped out soon after the rest of the troopers, the adrenaline filling his veins quickly with the rush of battle. His eyes did a quick sweep of the landscape and noted the nearby trench. "Make your way there," he pointed out for to the others, as he moved and blasted away at the nearest foe.

[OOC: Cam is looking to do the following three actions - Move towards the trench (move), give orders to the team to make for the trench (swift), and attack the nearest foe with blaster fire (attack w/ rapid shot).]

Not sure where Chessicfayth has been at the last couple days, but I know that he was planning on submitting a character too... a force-sensitive Gran sniper if I'm not mistaken (Scout / Scoundrel). I hope it's not too late for him to join.

Also... thanks for the post! Am I understanding correctly that we (the PCs) are all jumping out of the gunship as well?

Fayt hit points should actually be 21, not 23... originally I had the Toughness feat in there, but took it out in favour of Improved Defenses. I editted the sheet to note this.

Subject: Well... here's a look at a completed Droid sheet

Rerelae,
I took the sheet you posted above and made the minor changes of making Fayt using the rules from the Scavenger's Guide. It makes Fayt a bit tougher than the average R2 unit.

A couple notes:

Class - I went with the Scoundrel Class because it has the Luck, Outlaw Tech and Slicer talent trees. Jedi's no good, Noble and Soldier seemed not to fit, and Scout does give you the right trained skill list.

Ability Scores - Kept them the same as you had written.

Talents - I choose Gimmick (from the Slicer Talent Tree) but Fool's Luck would be a fine choice too

Skills - I imagine a R2 unit coming with Mechanics, Perception, Pilot and Use Computer as standard skills. That leaves you to choose 3 more. I went with Deception, Initiative and Stealth to give her some covert skills, but you could just as easily go for Gather Information and a couple Knowledge skills. Whatever your pleasure.

Feats - The Astromech "race" gives you Skill Focus [Mechanics]. The Scoundrel class gives you Point Blank Shot), and Weapon Proficiency [Simple Weapons, Pistols]. Your bonus feat is Improved Defenses and your Class feat is Skill Focus [Use Computer].

Possessions and Systems have remained the same.

If you hate this, no worries. I'll come back and delete the post. If you love it, enjoy.

Topic: Star Wars The Imperial March Q&A
Subject: A suggestion for Fayt...

Not sure if either of you have Scavenger's Guide to Droids, but they have a great system for creating droid hero characters by treating the "basic chassis" as a "race/species". Below is the astromech "chassis/specie":

ASTROMECH DROID CHASSIS TRAITS
Ability Modifiers: +2 INT, -2 CHA, no CON score
Size: Small; +1 size bonus to Reflex Defense and +5 size bonus to Stealth checks; 3/4 lifting and carrying limit
Speed:Wheeled locomotion 6 squares; walking locomotion 4 squares
Droid Traits: Second-degree droid that have all droid immunities and typical droid traits
Bonus Equipment: Wheeled locomotion, walking locomotion, magnetic feet, heuristic processor, 6 tool appendages, 1 claw appendage, astrogation buffer (5 memory units), diagnostics package, and internal storage (2 kg)
Hardwired Design (Mechanics): All astromech droids are trained in the Mechanics skill. This is a bonus trained skill.
Conditional Bonus Feat: An astromech droid with Mechanics or Use Computer as a trained skill can select Skill Focus (Mechcanics) or Skill Focus {Use Computer} as a bonus feat.
Automatic Languages: Basic (understand only) and Binary (full assess)

Now, all you do is add 2 levels of a class (I'd suggest Scoundrel). You can use the 5000 credits to buy additional gear to match R2-D2, or other things.

Additional Equipement:
Limited Flying Locomotion (9 squares) -- 360 credits
Improved Sensor Package -- 200 credits
Darkvision -- 150 credits

Still leaves you with 4000 creds to spend.

Aryn,

Sorry I've been unable to post. Moving is taking longer than anticipated (and it's quite draining with 7 kids ). Over the next three weeks, I foresee myself being quite tapped out. My work gets a little crazy through September, and I am away for a week vacation as well (starting on Friday).

My suggestion would be to continue to move the game forward without Almerin and my characters. I don't know about Almerin's wizard, but I think we'll be able to work Kit in later in the story.

I suspect some off the other players are eager to get into the adventure part, so... yeah... keep the game alive!! I'll be watching and, if possible, will still try to post some silver screen moments of Kit and Almerin's wizard and the blacksmith and the ridiculousness of all that.

Thanks!

Subject: Looking to get set up...

Three hands into the game and Kit was on a solid losing streak... just as she had planned. She made she the monies lost were not much and had played well enough to let her table know she could hold her own, but her primary purpose had been to gather information, and what she had gained thus far was worth every coin lost.

Those at her table had loose enough tongues to talk openly about the goings-on around this "mud-hole": a number of soldiers had just returned home to their families from a skirmish with Sendrians to the east, the battle hard-won; the half-blind tavern was a stop-over for some travellers on their way to Calestra or Sendria or to the Plains, though few were travelling these days due to the skirmishs with Sendria; the woman and the man at the back table were new around here as far as any at Kit's table could tell, and Kearn and Jerome made it quite clear they didn't much like the looks of them.

Beyond that, Kit had a handle on her opponents too. Kearn and Jerome were savvy enough players to see a bluff but didn't have enough bravado to finish the play. Benny was a sweet lad, brave and bold, but his face tattle-tailed his hand everytime.

Jonah, however, had that great mix of bravado and brains. She could see that he was a man who was experienced at taking calculated risks, a leader of men who had anted-up soldiers' lives and dared enemy commanders to go ahead and try their luck.

He was dangerous, and Kit loved him for it.

Taking the marking die, Jonah moved it along to the edge of reason and calmly stated, "Eleven sixs"

Three... two... one... Kit counted in her head, anticipating Jonah's next move. Jonah placed his hands in front of him on the table, giving away his subtle tell that he really didn't have it. Kit ignored it.

She could feel the presence of the old man coming up alongside her as she gazed at her dice intently. When he place his hand on her shoulder, she looked up with a playful smile. Apparently, everyone's feeling a bit lucky tonight.

“When you’re done with your game," the old man began. "I would like to offer you a glaff of Lockfhir Cider. It’s a ftiff drink, with a cool after tafte and a body like no other beverage you’ve ever confumed.”

He smiled a toothless smile at Kit.

“I’m at the table over there, with that young man.” Kit smirked as she followed his gaze to the well-built, young man at the nearby table. Grandfather trying to set up his grandson? Kit wondered to herself.

"That would be lovely," she said to the old man, her eyes dancing playfully with her smile.

"Do you mind, Jorak?" Jonah asked, a little annoyed at the interruption. "We're kinda in the middle of something here."

Paying no attention to the soldier, Kit continued, "Give me just a minute to finish up here."

Turning her attention back to her dice, she looked them over one last time. Benny had already folded, and Kit was glad... she would have hated fleecing the lad. Jerome and Kearn predictably folded at Jonah's bluff, but had invested some good coin already, and likely would be calling it a night after this hand. Which left only Jonah.

And Kit knew Jonah was bluffing. He didn't have the 6's, that was for sure. But she was also fair confident that he did have a bunch of 1's. But would he admit defeat when called out, or would he keep pushing his little rouse. Let's find out, Kit thought excitedly

Flashing Jonah a knowing smile, Kit flipped the marker dice over once more, and playfully called, "Twelve ones."

"Thirteen sixs," came Jonah's reply, calm still, but slightly clipped and a beat quicker. He pushed in the necessary coins to match his bet.

"Fourteen ones," Kit answered sweetly, matching her bet with funds from her pouch. "What have I got to lose?"

"Fifteen sixs."

"Alright," began Kit.

"Good call," said Jonah smugly, as he made to gather up the coins. "I would have hated for you to lose the last bit of your coin so soon into your game."

"You misunderstand me, Jonah," Kit's smile broadened. "I'm calling you out. You haven't got it. You're bluffing."

Throwing down the dice on the table, Jonah ubruptly slid his chair from the table, cursed Shinara, and walked out of the Tavern.

"Nothing personal, ma'am," Benny stated. "Captain's just not used to losing much. He just needs to walk it off. He'll maybe be back."

Jerome slid his chair from the table, "I need to get home myself. Likely have a full day tomorrow." Turning to Kit, he nodded slightly, "Saffron, it was nice to meet you. A good night to you all."

"Aye," echod Kearn, sliding his chair away too. "I best be finding my bed too. I ain't got much left to lose anyway."

The two men made their way out the door, leaving only Benny at the table with Kit. She gathered her won coins from the table and placed them into her pouch, while the young soldier looked her over.

"So," he began. "You got a place to stay for the night?"

Kit gave the young lad an appraising look. Bold and brave, even if he's lacking in brains, she thought, but replied simply with, "I think I like it right here."

Benny miss his cue and continued on, trying to put his arm around Kit, "Really? 'Cause I was thinking maybe you might wanna come with me."

The red-haired lass deftly deflected the incoming arm and invitation, as she stood up, "No, thanks, Benny. But thank you, kindly, for the offer."

Benny continued to follow her, "Come on, sweetheart. I'll pay ya. I got the coin... how much?"

A fire flashed in Kit's eyes and her playful smile became a bit tighter and she faced Benny, "Listen, lad. This ass isn't for sale. So, you best go home now." Her hand drifted to the hilt of her scimitar, her face letting Benny know she wasn't playing around.

The barkeep spoke next, "Benny, maybe you should go find your captain... make sure he's okay?" The young blacksmith also stood up.

The moment paused as Benny considered his options. He had misread this red-haired beauty and was now in the center spotlight, embarassed by his miscalculation. If Kit had been alone with him, he might have attempted to slapped her and carried her off by force. But with Jonathan and the barkeep offering the woman protection, Benny had enough sense to know he wouldn't have the opportunity.

"Another time, perhaps?" he said to Kit with a wicked grin full of malice. Colecting his stuff, he exited the Tavern with little more fuss.

Kit smiled inwardly, Everything is going splendidly. To the barkeep, she simply rolled her eyes dramatically, "Boys, right?"

The barkeep laughed, "Aye! Not always think with the right head."

Kit laughed lightly along with him as she made her way to the table with the young blacksmith and the old man. "That was mighty kind of you to stand up for me, sir," giving the man a little kiss on the cheek. "Some boys just don't know how to handle fire very well, you know what I mean?" Positioning a chair inbetween the old man and the young blacksmith, Kit leaned over and gave the old man a kiss on the cheek as well. "And thank you for the kind offer of a drink." She looked back at the young blacksmith with her playful eyes once more, "I love a stiff drink with a nice body."

Subject: Suggestions for the DM

Aryn,

I am really enjoying this game thus far. I have a couple suggestions from being a DM that may (or may not) help you/us in getting into the action. Take them for what they are worth:

1) As a DM, I normally have a good sense of the background of each of the players' characters. Either they've created something and shared it with me, or we've collaborated together to come up with a history that fits with the story I hope to create with them. This background usually takes the players' characters right up to the opening scene of the game. Currently, I'm not sure hope much you know about our characters as we haven't shared too much. Maybe we can change that?

2) As a DM, I normally control (or can take control) of any NPC in the room. So, one of the ways you might be able to move us players around like chess pieces in through the use of the other NPCs in the room (like the men sitting at the table with Kit currently, or the Barkeep interacting with Takley's halfling, or the blacksmith's conversation with Almerin's old man)... or bringing other NPCs into the room which challenge the characters or force the characters to act or reveal their "power".

3) It may be helpful for us as players to know why your "wicked woman" chose this place to find the people she is looking for? The location is fairly backwoods. Was she anticipating some people of interest? This is connected to the background piece in #1.

Anyway, just some thoughts that might help move the game forward. Now, I'll share with you my background (if you can keep a secret ):

1) Kit is originally from the port city of Visden in Pardinal and has travelled mostly in Pardinal and Coria, with a couple of trips to Bayris. This is one of the few times she has visited Ertain.

2) Kit is a disciple of Thirkell and is part of the World of Fools fellowship, her chapter being based out of Calestra, Coria. She has beeing involved in a number of "heists" to steal either important information or items of power for her fellowship and has gradually been moving up the ranks.

3) Kit is a master in the art of illusion, and within her art she weaves charm, force, gracefulness, half-truths, lies, seduction, and tactics. She is an excellent actor with good control over her body language and thoughts. She uses a mix of skill, spell and sword in her missions.

4) Currently, I imagined Kit to be here on assignment from her chapter to help your "wicked woman" steal whatever it is she needs stolen, and then steal it from the woman and bring it back to her organization.

I'll post something soon to the game.

I'm going to wait a bit on posting for Almerin (or Takley) or something else you decide to introduce, Aryn. As far as time goes, I doubt Kit will finish one "hand" of the dice game in the time it takes you and Keeper to have your conversation.

I can post a play-by-play of the game (and will, if nothing else interesting comes up), but you can assume that Kit will be holding her own round to round, winning some and losing some.

If nothing else comes up by Thursday evening, I will post the play-by-play.
