Q: Can points gains from Drawbacks be used to increase attributes?

A: Yes. As I read the rules, points gained from Drawbacks can used to add more points to any other area (Attributes/ Qualities/ Skills/ Metaphysics). The only limit is that you can only have up to 10 points in drawbacks (giving you up to 10 points to spend elsewhere)

Q: If that is so about other books, how about a bit of Sidhe Blood?

A: Not sure what you are referring to here? I have the Mystery Codex, the Abmination Codex, and the Book of Hod from the Witchcraft line of books. Sidhe Blood is not referenced in any of them, nor in the Core book either (as far as I could tell by a quich glance). Can you explain in more detail what information you are looking for?

Well, late arrive to the scene, I suppose.

I download the book too. The system looks interesting. Pretty similiar to WoD and the Serenity RPG as far as character creation goes.

Hey Eol: Remember that game where you played that spanish dude and the setting was in the 1800s ish. That's what this game reminds me of, except we're set in the present. The setting as presented in the book seems very neat! I really enjoyed reading the various stories.

I'm interested as well. It would depend on what you have in mind, Vesper, as far as posting frequency, how long you expect the game to take in real life, how long you expect the game to take, and the type of game (problem solving/ hack-n-slash/ character development/ etc). Also, hearing how dedicated you are to this game would be good too.

FOr example:

"This is a one-shot adventure that will involve the PCs hunting down and rooting out some evil that is threatening a certain place. It will require some investigating work and likely some combat against various mooks, before you actually face the BBEG.

"I expect this adventure will take six months to complete, at the rate of one post per week. I expect players to be committed to that and I will be looking to update every Sunday to move the game forward. If you miss two weeks, you're out. Sorry, but we want to keep the game moving.

"I already know I'll be busy during the month of December (exams and christmas and such) so we'll likely take a hiatus there. Otherwise, I hope to see this game though! "

That's just an example of what I'm looking for. I think it will also help us as players to know if we can realisticly commit to playing this game.

Regardless, I have a concept in mind as well. Likely a second sight or a second sight / divinely inspired character priest.

I also think have a "high bast" character in the party would be cool. It would be like a PC playing some persons familiar. Very neat idea!

Anyway... would love to hear more from you, Vesper, about the game. Looks like you have lots of interest!!

Topic: Generic Game Give-and-Take
Subject: Editted questions

I think all your questions are fine... though here's what I've included:

1. What rules-based game system are you using?
2. What Campaign Setting are you placing this game in?
3. What "type" of game is this? Intense hack and slash, political intigue, modern military, and / or hardcore story writing, etc?
4. What books/ supplements are allowed in your game? Are there any “house rules” that the recruits should be aware of?
5. What level will you be playing at?
6. How are recruits to determine their ability scores?
7. What will be the starting funds level?
8. Are there any limitations on what items (magical or mundane) that the characters can purchase?
9. Are there any other limitations which regards to the characters (alignment, classes, etc, etc)
10. Is there any specific information you would like the recruits to provide with regards to the characters (phobias, traits, history, etc)?
11. What do the recruits need to be familiar with in order to play (i.e. should know how to play DnD, or need to be familiar with Eberron, etc)?
12. What is your expected frequency of posts for recruits? Do you have a set time that you plan to “update” the game? What happens if players don't meet the posting deadlines?
13. What do you expect recruits to include in their game post? Please provide a “sample” post. Is there a minimum (or maximum) length with regards to in game posts? Where do you want players to post their OOC questions and comments?
14. Please provide a standard character sheet for your game, that recruits can copy, paste, fill out and resend.
15. Providing an opening "teaser" paragraph or three (or more) is nice for new recruits too. It should be something that gives recruits a feel for the "type" of game you are hoping to DM.

I don't know if I'd want to include too many more questions/ guidelines as it starts to get burdensome. 15 already feels like a lot... though I think they are helpful. And a stardard way of posting recruitment posts might be nice.

Still, there will be recruits who don't read what you've written (for variety of reasons) or just overlooked what you wrote. Being polite and gracious in such situations is usually a good idea. Sending a PM to "repeat" offenders as opposed to posting to the thread is probably a good idea.

PbP also lends itself to a good chance of misunderstandings as text on a white screen only conveys a bit of what I'm thinking / feeling (unless you are a superb writer). It misses the pitch and tone of my voice, along with my body language... something that's easier to catch around the table.

Anyway... time for bed!

WotC put out so many supplements for 3 / 3.5 with so many different feats / skills / class features / etc, etc that override the core rules that it has become burdensome to all save the most hardcore folks.

In a more possitive light, because that are some many details to the game mechanics of 3 / 3.5 E, it's easy to forget/ miss/ misunderstand a step.

Here at Inn, sure, sometimes folks don't read the DM's posts and ask silly questions. That happens though.

Here might be another suggestion: A "Before you start recruiting" sticky thread that lists some guidelines and suggestions on starting games at RDI.

For instance, any recruitment for a rule-based game should have the following information clearly laid out in the opening recruitment post:

1. What rules-based game system are you using?
2. What Campaign Setting are you placing this game in?
3. What "type" of game is this? Intense hack and slash, political intigue, modern military, and / or hardcore story writing, etc?
4. What books/ supplements are allowed in your game?
10. Is there any specific information you would like with regards to the characters (phobias, traits, history, etc)?
11. What do the recruits need to be familiar with in order to play (i.e. should know how to play DnD, or need to be familiar with Eberron, etc)?
12. Please provide a standard character sheet for your game, that recruits can copy, paste, fill out and resend.

I think that covers the basics...

Wizards of the Coast had one of these things on their community boards.

It was a Q&A board for simple questions pertaining to game mechanics for 3.5 Ed (they probably have one for 4th Ed now... I haven't been on for a while). Those that responded, either answered the question directly or redirected their attention to a thread that already answered the question.

I'm not sure I'd want to replicate it, but perhaps a sticky thread with links to helpful places might be nice. I know Utan has posted in a number of threads links to the hypertexted Standard Reference Documents for 3.5e.

Am I on the right track?

Typing in "SAS Training" or "Delta Training" yields some good results. In fact "SAS Training" pulled up some cool youtube videos mostly from Andy McNab, I think.

The Jason Bourne novels (and movies) would be good. Clear and Present Danger (book and movie) is good. Rainbow Six is not bad either.

The Delta Force line of video games from NovaLogic were all good, and for a more "black ops" feel check out the "Splinter Cell" series of video games.

Almerin,

It is with sadness that I ask to be released from the game. With our newest addition not sleeping very well right now, and 5 little ones at home, and a crazy busy summer work schedule, I need to spend my "free" time helping out around the house.

I am taking a bit of a hiatus from the Inn, atleast until October. Hopefully, by then, I'll feel like we're in some kind of groove here.

Anyway, let me just applaud you for your great work. Pio is one of my top three characters here at the inn. I will miss him much. Perhaps y'all could drap his lifeless body off at the ophanage or pass him into the care of some hottie like,um, Dorothy.

Thanks for the opportunity to play in this game!

Valimar,

I am afraid I will be bowing out of this game (sadly). Melina and the dunkin donuts boy can be your first real in play characters to become Zombie material.

Between my hectic summer work schedule and 5 young kids, I need to take a little hiatus from the Inn and regroup.

I likely will not be returning until October.

My apologises.

I'm terribly sorry, Admiral, but I will have to bow out of this game. (I am so excited about Jack too )

With 5 young'uns at home, and a busy work schedule (especially during the summer) I've got to take a hiatus from the Inn for a bit. (Probably until October, at least)

I'll likely lurk.

I will be away with work starting tomorrow (July 3rd) until July 16th inclusively. I will attempt to post soon after that, but will likely need to catch up on work and family back home first. Give me a few days grace.

As a further "heads-up", summer is always a "busy" time for me as, with work and vacation, I will be away for 8 of the next 10 weeks with limited connectivity. Feel free to NPC Pio to move the story along and not wait for me. If I see an opportunity to post, I will.

Or feel free to have him become a cool cat snack.

(jk... please don't... I really like Pio)

Check ya later! (If you post today, Almerin, I'll try to do the same.)

As far as Melina is concerned, I was going to have her head to the back of the store and see what she could find back there. She have the boy come with her too, if he's willing... but won't wait around for him.

Later!

Topic: You Filthy Little Thief!!!
Subject: Unbearable...

The pain in his shoulder was sharp and intensified by the burning sensation in his lungs. And yet, there was no fear for the young knight. Sheer determination held his breath and kept the man alive... for the moment.

And yet, Pio was not some barbarian who had lost his head in battlelust. The knight was very aware that his life was now hanging in the balance and, perhaps, was already lost.

It was the was of the Fickle Lady, and Pio accepted whatever destiny came his way.

It was at that moment he caught sight of the sleek shark circling in on the blood trail left behind by both beast and man. He could only hope that predator would be distracted by the bigger prey.

Sure enough, the shark move in to kill the injuried cat. Thank you, Lady Luck! Pio thought to himself, his hope renewed for the moment. Perhaps I am meant for more than cat food...

Bolstering his strength for a final push against the monsterous river cat, Pio hope together with the shark (and whatever help the river might send) to end the battle.

[ OOC: Okay... here it goes...

Pio is continuing to attack the Cat with his
Armored Gauntlet (his good arm).

If he took damage last round, than he receives a +1 bonus to attack and damage due to his Furious Counterstike class ability.

He is also switching his stance to
Punishing Stance (+1d6 to damage, -2 AC) and is already projecting a Power aura (+1 to melee damage for all "allies" within 30').

This means Miran and the Shark (and anyone else) should be receiving a +1 damage bonus.

For Pio this means-->

Attack: +6 (+7 w/ furious counterstrike)
Damage: 1d3 (armored fist) +3 (str) +1 (aura) +1d6 (stance)
AC: 17 = 19 (Full Plate/ Dex) -2 (stance)

There she be. He'll do this attack for two rounds if necessary. Else, on the second round, he'll look to swim to the surface.

Melina tried to think, tried to find some sanity in the midst of this chaos. The drone of the moaning, the shrieking boy, the smell of decay, the sight of blood… it all made the suburbia housewife’s head spin.

I need to get a grip! I NEED to be in control! she thought to herself. Grabbing the boy by the shoulders, she gave him a violent shake (and slapped him across the face too, if necessary), “Get a grip, kid! I can’t think with you screaming!”

[OOC: Regardless of whether he stops…]

Melina tried to grab all her multidirectional thoughts and focus her mind for a moment. “We need to move. We need to get out of here.”

She scanned her surroundings. The mob of rotting people were coming in from the sports fields and flooding into the parking lot and entrance. “D***!” They had better not be scratching the Jeep!

Looking the other direction, Melina spoke to the kid, “What’s your name, kid?”

[OOC: Regardless of his answer…]

“And any idea what’s behind the store?”

[OOC: I’ll stop here… see if the kid has any extra information]

Good question, indeed. I think from how the spell description is worded ("It appears where you designate and acts immediately, on your turn") I would agree with Sui. The shark shows up and attacks on the round it was cast.

Discipline.

It was Pio’s closest companion. It held his sword a hundred times when all of his emotions cried out for slaughter and death.

And now, in this moment, it held his breath, even though all of his emotions want Pio to let it go. Pio felt the claws of the beast rake across his head again, and yet discipline held on to his breath. And, while Pio knew Death itself was lingering nearby, waiting to devour him, the knight nearly smiled (and would have laughed if it won’t mean losing his air).

Therassor, grant your servant victory today.

[OOC: Pio is looking to once again punch this beast in the head with his armored fist.]

I'm about ready to jump in now, if that's possible, Addy. You can introduce me into some part of deck 29 on security detail if you like or fill me in on how you'd like my guy to get in the game.

As far as where the rest of you are on the map...

The majority of the group (Tann, Kaelyn, Ginafae, and Jozan) are using the bottom of the two maps (the one that makes the "T"). Grugg is on his on own (with the servitor) on the top map (the on that forms the "Y" shape).

The sense I got from Addy's post is that the main group can't see or hear Grugg's character (and vice-versa). Because you all are on the opposite side of the deck from him and there walls and rooms and such in between you.

It does seem likely, however, that the moaning sound that the main group hears on their right is the same moaning sound that Grugg hears to his left... which would seem to suggest that you all are not too far away from him.

It also does mean, Tann, that you only goofed slightly in posting that you guy past Grugg's PC and the servitor. Not too big of a deal.
