Topic: captain america style paladin Subject: 3.5 stuff
Feats:
"Brutal Throw" (Comp. Adventurer) - Trade STR mod for DEX with thrown weapons
"Improved Shield Bash" (PHB) - Allows you to make a shield bash and still apply the AC bonus from the shield.
Magical Enchancements from DMG:
For Shields:
"Bashing (+1)" - increases the damage by two size categories (1d8 for a heavy medium shield)
For Weapons:
"Throwing (+1)" - allows a melee weapon to be thrown
"Returning (+1)" - allows thrown weapon to return to wielder at the start of his next turn
So, if I had to price this shield, it would cost 20gp (base shield) + 150gp (masterwork quality) + 1000gp (mithral) +1000 gp (+1 AC enhancement) +3000gp (bashing enhancement) +2000 gp (throwing enhancement) +6000gp (returning enhancement) = 13170 gp total
Other enhancements from DMG to consider:
"Distance" (+1) - double range increment
"Ghost Touch" (+1) - affects incorperal creatures
"Seeking" (+1) - negates concealment
Other feats to consider:
Ranged Disarm, Ranged Sunder, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Power Throw
Other enhancements to create:
"Improved Returning" - requires "Returning" enhancement, allows you to use the weapon multiple times per round with full attack
"Ricochet" - requires "Seeking" and "Distance" enhancements, allows you to target multiple enemies with the same throw... (this might be better as a prestige class ability for the Master Thrower prestige class)

Topic: Shadow Cathedral Q/A Subject: So...
Where do we go from here?
Boshaun, any ideas on how to get your character into the game?
Rest of the gang, shall we head over to the Baron's house after a night's sleep? Doesn't one of you need to set up an appointment with the mayor to fetch their familiar?
Let's decide quickly so we can give Almerin something to work with.

Topic: The Shadow Cathedral Subject: Post up
[Berodin, in his private room at the Boar on Rotation]
It had been only day since the dwarf’s arrival at Varithne. The townsfolk were friendly enough to a stranger and Berodin had found the hospitality at the Boar on Rotation more than adequate.
Still, the village was unfamiliar to him and the people seemed... slightly... odd. Never heard of you, Lord? Really? While the notion that there would be civilized towns where no altar, much less a temple, to the Shining One existed was farfetched enough for Berodin, the idea that a whole town might not even know his name...
I shall have to rectify this then, hmm, Lord? An unsettling, distant silence disquieted the dwarf’s soul, as if his god were somehow veiled. A vexing angst filled Berodin’s heart, an angst that had been growing this past days – ever since he and his companions had been lost in the mists. That angst and the grief over the loss of his companions needled at the priest as though working to rob him of any hope or joy.
“Enough of such dark thoughts,” Berodin chided himself. “A drink and a full belly – that’ll help bring some proper perspective.”
As Berodin exited his room and moved to the bar of the common area, he switched his thinking back to his evangelistic efforts towards the townsfolk. Already, a plan had been forming. Through conversations with the locals, the priest had learned a sad tale of woe that had come over the people – young men disappearing over the course of these past six months. With the high profile disappearances of the mayor’s son and even the Baron’s, Berodin thought solving the mystery of the disappearances and, may the gods allow, even finding the lads might raise the renown of the Shining Lord amongst these unbelievers.
He just needed some sturdy companions, some brave souls to bear witness to his lord’s glory...
Scanning the room from his stool, Berodin asked the barmaid for a warm meal and a tall ale. When she returned with his food and drink, he inquired about the lone figure dressed in dark leathers, “He new in town too?”
[Almerin, feel free to add something here]
“Hmmm,” Berodin nodded to the maid. “Thanks.”
Picking up his plate and mug, he moved across the room towards the dark figure and placed his food and drink down at the table. “Might I have a word with you, stranger?”
[Raven, insert response... should it be close to “No” disregard the rest and assume Berodin leaves the lone figure alone once more. If “yes”, continue...]
The priest takes a seat, “You seem a man of sturdy stock and a hardy soul. I am looking for some hardy folk to join me on a mission, a quest, if you will. A mission for the good of these people.”
Berodin paused for a moment to see if the man was still tracking with him before continuing.
“You may have heard that the town has lost some of their lads these past six months. Those lost include the sons of both the mayor and the baron of these parts. It is thus far an unsolved mystery, and joy-stealing one at that, as those remaining worrying and wonder if their son might be next. It is my intention to solve the mystery and, should the gods allow, return the lads to their families, giving hope back to the people and driving out fear.”
Again, the priest paused, allowing the man to weigh his words, and allowing Berodin to observe the man.
“A mission for the good of these people is motive enough for my purposes. Though I heard there may be one willing to compensate us for our efforts, should we explore this mystery. Interested in such a mission, sir?”

Topic: Shadow Cathedral Q/A Subject: Another player...
Almerin,
A new member to RDI is looking for a game... name is Boshaunn, I believe. I mentioned this game to him, and told him to check with you. If you're willing, I thought maybe him and I could be introduced together (maybe his character is another companion for my party that didn't die or something like that?). Anyway, I thought I'd hold off on posting until after the weekend to get your response.
BTW... WHERE are the rest of you guys? Don't flake out now, just as I'm about to join in!!
Almerin, if you post up your response before the morning... I still could get a post up tomorrow (unless the house goes to pot).

Topic: New innmate looking for a game Subject: Check out "Shadow Cathedral"
Send Almerin a private message. I know he is about to introduce my character into the game... maybe he'd welcome one more, and we can be introduced together?
The game is called "Shadow Cathedral" and can be found in the recruitment, Q/A and DnD Games Forums.
Check with Almerin.

Topic: Shadow Cathedral Q/A Subject: I'm coming
Though I was waiting for the rest of the party to post their arrival, I can work with just Raven. (I was hoping for the others to arrive 'cause Raven's character seems to be a skeptical, suspicious loner by nature... I have my doubts he'll welcome Berodin into the party without some coaxing from the others. )
I am looking to post sometime before Friday.

Topic: Shadow Cathedral Q/A Subject: Hey All
So... what's the plan? Are you guys planning on bringing your characters to the common room? Shall I post that I am hanging around there and then you'll approach me?
I was thinking of going that route... of posting the scene set up of Berodin sitting at a table by himself (but with enough chairs for your group), and all the other chairs taken in the room? Would you be the type of folks who'd sit down with a stranger for dinner in a common room? Or should I come up with something else?
Also, Almerin, is Thursday the new update day, or is it still Mondays?

Ever thought of restarting a game like this here? I can think of a few innmates who (I think) would love this kind of RPG.
Just throwing it out there for you.

Topic: Geek Children's books? Subject: Reading... so good!
My wife started the habit of reading to our eldest when he was very young, and continues this tradition still, usually spending about 30-60 minutes reading each night to the kids. So good for there creativity, imagination, listening skills, memory and more!
So far, they've read all the Little House on the Praires, all the Chronicles of Narnia, the Hobbit, most of the Box Car Children, a number of Beverly Cleary books, the Secret Garden, the Little Princess (?), the Tale of Despereaux, Henry the Mouse (?) and other books in that series, Journey Through the Night, and more.
I'm not sure I can name a bunch of fantasy books... but Ramona the Pest is a decent read-aloud chapter book. Others include the Skippy-Jon-Jones series, the "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" and others in the series, the Box Car Children mystery books are decent for age 5+. Backyardigans in story format are decent as well.
There's a start.

Topic: *Recruiting* Land Asunder game! Subject: I'm posting the character tonight
Jozan,
Three questions:
1) PM your the character sheet?
2) I was thinking of doing a class substitution for Fast Movement feature, using the Spiritual Totems from Complete Champion. I was thinking Bear Totem (which gives the Improved Grab ability) or Lion Totem (which gives the Pounce ability). I'm wondering a) If I go Bear, would I be able to use Improved Grab with a Spiked Chain (two-handed weapon)? b) If I go Lion, are there Lions/desert plains on this Island?
Thanks!

Topic: *Recruiting* Land Asunder game! Subject: Clarifying
Hey All,
Yeah, I was expressing interest in the game, though my post was meant to help illustrate your house rules rather than stating my intentions.
So... let me be clear. I am interested in your game, Jozan. Thanks!
I have not given any thought to a character yet... but a tiefling rogue is not on my radar. So, other players should feel free to nab the tiefling race or the rogue class.
Thanks!
