WELCOME TO DENVER, CHUMMERS!

Getting used to life in The City of Shadows hasn’t been an easy process. As if the interplay of factions in the Shadow community weren’t tricky enough, the addition of four different countries and a bloody great dragon have kept you on the edge of your seat. There’s also that matter of adjusting to the thin air up here. It’s made your unplanned transition a little rocky, but things are starting to settle down. You’ve secured a place, and you’ve sent out a few feelers concerning your “line of work.”

This afternoon, it looks like those feelers have started to pay off. A few minutes ago, you received a call from somebody who’s on the fast track to being your team's best buddy ever.

He called about a job. The meeting is at 4:30 at Denim, a nightclub in the PCC sector. There was an offhand mention that the Johnson was looking for “shiny new faces” who might act as neutral parties.

Watch your back, omae. Shoot straight. Conserve ammo. And never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon.

I hope to... early this week. I think flu season is finished in our house (6 of 8 of us have had it now... and us remaining two aren't showing any signs yet... so, YAY!), plus my busy work retreat has just wrapped up too.

Thanks for your patience.

I've got sick kids at home that have required my attention. Sorry for not posting this sooner. Berodin will spend spell slots to heal the barely breathing khords.

Subject: What happened to Olan?

I thought things were coming together for Olan. Did I miss a memo?

Regardless, I'm glad someone's taking up the reins... it would have been sad to lose the site. Personally, I think you'll do a great job, Al. I'm sure some of the rest of us can come along side of you and fill in any areas of web hosting that you do not understand.

I also glad for how seemless this transition seems to be going, as I was just planning on starting up a Shadowrun/Cyberpunk game and it would be sad to have to shelf it for a a while, you know what I mean.

Anyway, best of luck, Al! You got my support!

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok Q/A ~ 1
Subject: So... this is the part I like best about Almerin's games...

Now what?

The joy of Almerin's games is that he does not railroad the story, and his clues are usually rather subtle. So, I imagine this round of posts to be a time for us to make a decision of where we want to go next...

Do we continue to try and pick up the trail we began with?

Do we go back to the inn and check up on/ question our brethren (and possibly rest/regain spells)?

Do we pursue the ankheg lead? Or the stony hand lead?

Are there more questions we need to ask the Stinkhorn? Is there something we can give to the Stinkhorn that allows us/him to contact him/us should we/he need him/us?

Let me say that these are the spots where it is easiest for Almerin's games to die.... let's not let that happen here!

Personally, I'm in favor of going back to the inn, questioning our rescued brethren, and resting/recuping our spells.

What about you? What other information do we know so far? What do you think the party should do next?

Thanks!

Subject: Same idea as above

With the beastly creature dead and the "dust settled", Berodin wiped the gore of his mighty hammer and gave an encouraging word to his companions, "Well done, my friends! The gods have surely favoured us this day."

Picking his way carefully through the slippery pit that was once filled with black goo, the khord moved towards the now awakened mushroom. "Mighty mushroom," he addressed the fungus. "By what name shall I address you?"

>>Assuming a response<<

"Good .... [fill in with name given]," began Berodin. "I give you thanks for your assistance in this battle. May your children grow large caps and deep roots."

"I was wondering if you might lend us a bit more assistance in this dire time? I seek some bits of knowledge which you may have. First, what is the nature of the black goo which once surrounded you and your island?"

>>Assuming a response<<

"I see. And how did it come to pass that some of our brethren were recently affixed to your stalk?"

>>Assuming a response<<

"Hmmm. Interesting... And this large stony hand that we witnessed plucking one of our own from your stalk, do you know anything about it, from whence it came, and where it did go?"

>>Assuming a response<<

"Thank you, good friend! May your family increase in abundance."

[OOC: I'll stop here for now. Berodin is really looking to gather some information.]

You roll a 10 on your Knowledge [The Planes] check to see what you know about "Ayrn" ('cuz everyone knows he's out of this world ).

The DM posts the following results:

Ayrn - Native Outsider
This tall, tanned native beauty seems to be send straight from heaven. He has the following known abilities:

Gaze Attack: Do not look directly into his eyes... they're stunning!
Great Fortitude / Endurance: Like the energized bunny!
Improved Grab: Once he's got a hold of you, it's hard to resist.
Pounce: Rawr!
Scent: Usually of the Calvin Klein variety.
Tongue: It's a gift, really. Need I say more?

Vulnerability: Chainmail

Good luck!

I roll an Innuendo skill check (I love 3.0 skills).

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 1 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: I see hope... Dang it! Who called in the mist! I can't see a thing!

Berodin felt the reassurance of Solanis vibrate within him as the head of his mighty hammer connected with the armored flesh of the beast before him. A renewed sense of hope washed over him as he caught a glipse of the hippogriffs flying away, unhindered, towards the Spores. Lord, keep them, he prayed.

A fog suddenly rolled in which limited his vision, luckily he was close to the beast and able to see his target. "Hopefully that 'shroom watches where he's going!"

Charging ahead, the brave khordish priest moved along the beast's body towards its rear, hoping to avoid the creature's vicious bite while using his body's momentum to slam the warhammer even harder against the creature's hard shell.

[OOC: I'm looking to use the charge action, but am not sure I can. Regardless, I'm looking to change Berodin's location, moving down the length of the body, before slamming the warhammer into the beast. We'll power attack again as well, -2 to attack, using the warhammer two-handed (so, +4 damage, I believe)... plus the bonuses and penalties for charging (if I'm able).

I'm making an assumption though... I'm assuming that the black goo has drained away and is not a real hazard any longer so entering into the "pool" is actually entering into dry land. If that is not the case, then Berodin will stay put and hammer away at the creature from his current location.

A second assuption... I'm assuming the ground is "dry", i.e. there's not a significant chance of Berodin slipping while he moves and/or charges forward. If that is not the case, again Berodin will stay put and hammer away at the creature.

Thanks!
Ayrn

Sign me up for a Human Hero of the Old Era. I've got a martial artist in mind, a master of both armed and unarmed combat. Ninja-esque... though not specifically ninja, nor does he need to have a real asian flavour to him... but he could, if that works.

Topic: Monsters' Paradise Game Recruitment
Subject: I'll bite

Hey Madscirat,

Saw this a while ago, thought I'd take you up on the offer and see where it goes.

I'd be interested in taking on the role of human from the old era, I think. Not exactly sure whether he'd be protagonist or hero, nor have I decided on whether he'd be more magically or martially inclined. I know this is free-form, but could you give me a rough idea about what the "level-equivilent" would be if this were a rule based game? Are we talking about 5th level heros? 8th-12th level? Or 15th-20th level? Just so I have a sense of just how powerful these characters are. Your character examples seem to be complete opposites on the "power-range". If they were in the same party, it would seem to me that either the beholder would be bored or the serving girl would be dead.

Also, is this a "heroic" type game, where the characters are looking to improve the lot of the humans, dwarves, and elves? Could you provide a general plot-line or teaser for the game? I like the idea of the setting, but am interested in hearing about what direction you hope to take the game.

Thanks!

Nice post, Almerin! Very entertaining!

Two quick questions:

1) When would you like to update next? When should we have our posts in by?

2) Is it possible to climb on top of the beast? And, if one was on the creatures back, would the beast have the head/neck agility to bite back? Just curious.

Thanks!

Berodin is planning on using power attack to attack the creature, taking a -4 penaly to attack.

If the creature is not in melee ranged, then Berodin is using his crossbow to fire on the beast.

Thanks!

Subject: Distract and Attack!

Berodin stared up at the creature before him, girding himself with all the courage of his holy god. Even the darkness is not dark for me, for the Lord of Lights watches over my ways.

"Quickly, friends!" he urged his companions. "We must distract this beast long enough for our injured brethren to reach safety!"

Turning towards his lord's agents, he spoke to the hippogriffs, "Fly, servants of my lord! Return these poor folk to Spores Tavern." And with quick instruction, he gave the beasts directions to the tavern and released them from his service.

Giving his full attention to the huge beast before him, Berodin withdrew his hammer, grasped it with both hands and threw all his weight behind it. "Back to the abyss with you, beast of the earth!"
