Subject: Catching up

[OOC: Back-posting a bit to catch up…]

Pio stayed at the edge of the crowd as Percy moved away. He watched as Milan followed after her, carefully leave a few paces between them. Then, Pio watched as Llammoth drew up the hood of her cloak. The knight gave the half-orc a grim, knowing look. Both knew their impulsive sister was likely about to get herself in trouble. Llammoth trailed after the sorceress, but Pio continued to stay planted where he was.

The knight watched on as Percy found herself a spot on the outer edge of the crowd. Now what are you going to do, sister?

Percy’s response can quick enough, and even Pio was caught off guard as a beautiful horse materialized out of nothing before her. The knight had little time to consider how she had performed such a trick, as he was quickly distracted by what Percy DID with the mount. As he watched his sister slap the horse’s backside, sending it through the crowd, Pio nearly cried out for her to stop… but he knew it was too late.

Moving away from where he was standing, Pio edge further away from his siblings. Experience with working within the military told him that the guards from the courthouse would soon be coming out to investigate, and possibly put down, this disturbance of the peace. The knight could only hope his siblings would have enough sense to surrender peacefully.

He knew, with Percifeer, he was hoping for a lot.

And then it happened. Pio saw it from his new vantage point. The horse Percy had conjurer, in it’s panicked state, barreled into a small child, sending the boy sprawling to the pavement. Then, almost as quickly as it came, the horse disappeared. The boy lay motionless on the ground.

The color drained out of Pio’s face as the first cries started to emerge from the crowd. “She did this to us!” “She killed that little boy!”

This situation looked like it was about to get much worse than even the knight could have anticipated. Oh, Percy…

Pio started to make his way through the crowd, wanted to get to his sister, to stand by her side, to protect her… when another voice called out from within the crowd. “Pio!”

It was Milan. The man must have back tracked through the crowd when he also came to realize the trouble their sister was in. Pio was about to draw near to Milan when, suddenly, yet another voice called out.

This voice was loud and clear, yet gentle, coming over the din of the crowd. It was the voice of peace… the voice of reason.

It was the voice of his brother, Beinsel.

Pio halted in his tracks as his brother’s soothing voice called for the crowd to forget their violence, and to look for healing and restoration. Working over the boy, still motionless, Beinsel played a beautiful song of hope and grace. Pio could feel his spirits lift and began to move to the edge of the crowd, allowing those around him to move in closer.

As the song finished, sure enough, the young boy began to move. Along with the rest of the crowd, Pio was elated and amazing at his brother’s handiwork. He was truly the hero for the day. Pio thanked Shinara for Beinsel’s timely entrance.

Then Percy acted again.

Pio could see her scanning the crowd, and he knew in his heart she was looking for him. When she finally spotted him, she singled him out from amongst the people gather and shouted out in a loud, angry voice, “DON’T YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN.”

Pio cringed inside at her words, but on the outside he betrayed no emotion as all eyes fixed themselves on him. He hated this place… this place where he was the center of attention, where everyone waited to see what he would do. He simply stared back at his sister, cold and hard.

The crowd seemed to favor the knight of his sister and, while their anger had been assuaged by Beinsel’s song, the people doubted Percy’s claim.

Just as Pio had thought, the guards quickly stepped in and asked Percy to “accompany” them into the courthouse to “straighten out” the matter. One of the guards also caught Pio’s attention and asked if the knight would come along as well. Pio simply nodded and indicated he would be in momentarily.

“What do you want the rest of us to do?” Milan asked, his voice coming from around the knight.

Pio remained still, looking on at his brother Beinsel, now being greeted by the crowd as the hero. “Find Llammoth and greet our good brother, Beinsel. Perhaps, while Percy and I straight out things with the guards, you three might be able to use our brother’s new found fame to gain some information from the courts regarding our affairs. We’ll meet up with you here when we have concluded our business.”

Straight and confident, Pio made his way through the crowd towards the courthouse, his eyes now locked on Percy.

Therassor, give your servant prudence.

Hey all,

Don't think I'm gonna make it tonight either. I've come down with a pretty nasty head cold so my brain's a bit fuzzy. And I need to get to bed early tonight because I've got a convention for work I'm at bright and sunny tomorrow.

Sorry.

Just moved this over to the surveys section. Not sure if this is the best place for it... it's kind of blurring the lines of what to call this. Survey? Posting Game? Other? Tough call.

Regardless... interesting discussion.

Well done, Almerin!

That was a great post. Great work in bringing us back together.

Um... I'm not too sure what Derry's options are.

He'll definitely not be involved in sacrificing a human for the Dryad spirit.

He does not feel as though he should get involved with the Bishop to destroyed the Dryad spirit. The Bishop and Co. seem set on destruction once again... not trying to make amends.

Derry's not the type to go rob a place.

So what are Derry's options?

I could maybe see him trying to mediate in the middle of the two groups, trying to find peace.

He could also just be hanging around the town, helping some farmer, or tanner, or innkeeper with chores and some adventure happens to come his way.

Finally, Derry's a wanderer... I definitely conceivable that Derry is planning on heading off to the next town, and is "interrupted" by whatever adventure.

So... yeah... I'm pretty okay with any of the above options.

Does that help?
Are there other options for a solo?

Thanks!

Seriously, Sui... that SO did not upset me.

Made me laugh. A LOT... and out loud. But did not bring up any feelings of anger.

Percy is... interesting, to say the least. In Pio's estimation, while he's attracted to her beauty and untamability... he also finds her moody, immature and a bit of a loose cannon.

Me, as a player... I thought your post was interesting to read and your decided actions for Percy were pleasantly unexpected. (as was you choice to conjure up a horse to cut your way through the crowd.)

Do I think it was the wisest choice in completing our game's "mission" (to save the orphanage)? Nope. But I don't always care about that too much. I did think it was cool for character development.

As far as Percy's action to try to point out Pio in the crowd... we'll see how the DM responds. Pio won't make any motion of recognition at Percy's claims. Nor will he try to walk away... he'll simply ignore her.

I'm a bit under the weather right now... so my creative juices are not really flowing (my nose is, however).

Anyway, feel free to update, Almerin, without a post from me, to keep things going. Like I said, Pio's still clinging around at the edge of the crowd.

I'm waiting on the others to post before I post my action. Almerin, you may even update prior to me posting, as like I said, Pio will wait and watch from the edge of the crowd to see what becomes of this mess.

Nah, man. No need to apologize.

I think this will be a neat step in our character development... depending on how y'all respond to the guards and such. (the development might be real short if you try to resist.)

I'm going to love reading about how Percy deals with the unintention death of a child due to her actions. It has the potential to be an intense, gripping story.

It's all good, man! All good! Keep up the great posts.

You are evil, Almerin... well... not really... I actually thought this might be the outcome of Percy's actions. (someone getting hurt or dying)

>>sigh<<

Well, fear not, good folks. Pio will attempt to bail all yer arses out of jail when the time comes.

Pio will remain firmly planted where he is. Though his urge is to leap into the crowd and rescue Percy, two things hold him back. 1) Fighting peasants is pretty dishonourable in his eyes. 2) It is futile to try fighting the guards... they will simple overwhelm the party and send them all off to jail.

Sorry, Almerin... if this means our party is breaking up.

Pio's response will really depend on the crowd...

If Percy and co, get into trouble along the way, in particular with the law, Pio will continue to hang back.

If they enter into the courthouse unscathed, then Pio will move to follow in after them, though he'll pass through the crowd in a different, and more subtle, way (hopefully).

Subject: Why gods?!? Why?!?

Pio allowed Percy to yank her arm away without a struggle. He was not one to force his will on people… definitely not on the young sorceress. For what must have been at least the third time today, the beautiful woman once again cut the young knight with her glare. Pio remained still, though his eyes may have betrayed his feelings.

The man really did not want to stand out today. He knew that should the court officials find out their association with the orphanage, those officials would be more than tight-lipped.

But he also knew better than to stand in the way of his sister. The beautiful, young lady’s blood was hotter than the sun’s burning beams on the Chindari plains and her spirit was as wild as the foaming waters around the Leema Krags.

And once again, Pio found himself both attracted to and repulsed by his sister. She was impulsive, stubborn and lacked prudence… and yet, the young knight found her carefree attitude, her passionate energy, and her untamable spirit to be refreshing.

That did not diminish the fact that Percy once again placed him and his sibling, though, in place of decision: should they follow after their sister, not knowing what chaos she was about to call down… or leave her to her own devices?

As Percy skirted around the edge of the crowd, Pio called to her gently, “You know, sister, if you’ve got a idea, you could maybe talk it over with us first.” Whether, she heard him or not was impossible to tell, as she continued to move away from him.

Why, Oriana? Why do you tempt me so? Pio breathed a silent prayer.

The knight resolved himself not to follow after his sister… at least, not for now. He waited to see what the others would do.

OOC: I ended my post to just before Percy casts her spell. I'm waiting for the others to see if they'll follow. I think Pio, though, will not follow regardless. He's too worried that Percy (and who ever is with her) are just going to get themselves arrested for disturbing the peace. And getting in a fight with the city guards is just not going to be helpful.

Sui... thanks for making like interesting!

With his arm linked with Percy’s, Pio stood back at the edge of the crowd, taking in the scene before him. Between his “sister’s” natural beauty and the light of day gleaming off his armor, the young knight looked regal. His face and posture carried the nobility of his people. It is not as though Pio flaunted it… it was a natural, inner strength which shined through.

Standing at the edge of the crowd, the young knight waited patiently for Llammoth to return from her information gathering. He could feel the tension within Percy, though. “Patience, m’lady,” he spoke gently to his sister. “Let’s try not to be noticed today.”

Llammoth returned soon enough with the rumour that there had been an error in the Archives. While his body remained still, his eyes definitely betrayed his shook at hearing the news. The archives are never wrong… or, at least, very, VERY rarely.

Pio frowned at the news. His half-orc sister spoke his thoughts a moment before him, "Do you think perhaps we should come back another time? The courts will be busy with this incident, and will likely shoo us out the door. I can't see any good coming of our visit at this juncture. Perhaps we should just carry on and return at another time?"

Pio nodded his agreement, “I think your right, sister. I do not think the officials at court will be available to address our questions today. We may have to wait a day before we examine the alleged scene of the crime.”

Pio allowed the news of Sebarter’s claim to sink in a bit more, letting his gaze follow Llammoth’s to the black carriage. “It’s unfortu..."

It's here that his sister, Percy, interrupted...

Apparently I haven't checked the thread recently. Oops. I didn;t see Philosopher's post of looking for some gossip, not Almerin's reply.

hmmm... I suppose I am at a bit of a lose what to do. I would suggest that we wait a bit to find out the outcome.

Have we heard this family's name before?... it sounds vaguely familiar.

Two things: 1) I think I understand now what Sui meant in his post... I'm waiting for Philospher to share the gossip with the rest of us. I don't want to assume.

2) Regardless... does Pio know anything about this family beyond what you've already shared in the post, Almerin?

I think I'll wait another day to post... maybe Philosopher will have put something up by then. Otherwise, I think I'll just post that Pio waits until Llammoth returns...maybe asks a few folks around him what's going on.

Thanks!

Topic: For Whom the Bell Tolls Q&A
Subject: Magical Items, Mid-week Games, and more...

As far as magical items are concerned, Derry isn't all that interested in any of the items. He can't/won't use shields, and doesn't particularly care for the ESP item (would go against his personal ethics). The item that grants magical resistance is okay, but it can also hinder beneficial magic... so he'll leave that for the others as well.

As far as mid-week games are concerned, I won'tbe able to play any mid-week deals as I work every evening Sunday - Thursday currently. Fridays and Saturdays are okay, with Friday being the preference.

Speaking of which, I will be unavailable to play the weekends of April 11-12, April 25-26, and May 16-17. After that I'll have to play it by ear. We're expecting our fifth child near the end of May/ beginning of June... and the summer months are always sketchy for me as I'm usually away 6 weeks of JUly and August for work. So, we'll see.

As far as weekly living expenses are concerned... I'm okay with that (3 gp/ week)... though for Derry, it might entail enjoying the hospitality of some poor, local villager to whom he leaves a nice sum of money at the end of his stay.

Thanks! Nice epilogue by-the-way, Vorrioch.

Yeah, I waiting a bit for Philosopher... but mostly, I was waiting for Jozan1's character to be introduced.

Agreed, though, Almerin... let's keep moving. I will post late tonight. Mostly, I have Pio suggest that we perhaps split up and mingle in with the crowd to see what we hear and find out what's going on. Pio doesn't want to be too conspicuous (sp?) here around the courthouse, especially if we can come back of Thirkday as delivery/wait staff for some big Councilor shing-dig. I try to response to Sui's second attempt to solicit some cool character development between Percy and Pio. (don't think Pio hasn't noticed! )

Jozan1: Are you still in? When shall we expect you?

Topic: What Games are You Planning?
Subject: Two for me...

I have two ideas... one is more of a campaign. The other an introduction to a specific setting.

The Campaign: I've been living with ideas and game plans for a campaign setting in Northern Audalis (the world found here). It's a mix of linked adventures, with some overarching plots that is looking to tie it together. My basic idea is of a group of characters coming to the North for their own reasons, but getting wrapped up in the lives of the people. So far, it would require the characters to be "do-good"ers, moving from place to place, helping folks solve a number of "problems" and becoming heros of the area. I've got material that should easily take characters from level 3 to level 15... but that also means it's nearly 15 different adventures, each of which could easily take 4-6 months a piece to complete. (5 - 7 years of online games. )

The Intro Adventure: I recently picked up the Midnight Campaign Setting book (2nd Edition) and I am really interested running a few adventures in this world. I love some of the changes they've made to the character classes and character creation process. And I love the "feel" of the world (kind of an apocalyptic, dark, conspiracy feel). My idea is to create pre-generated characters for the game (likely an all human party consisting of a brother, sister, cousin and friend) and move through some low level "adventures" so that I and the players can get a feel for the world.

I've also got a D20 Modern Military game on the backburner, and a D20 Modern Superspy game on the very far back burner.

Good idea for a thread, Skari-dono!

Topic: Filthy Thief Q/A
Subject: Playing Tag

I'm not sure where I've seen it here at the inn... I think in the Star Trek game of old... but I found certain folks would use this format of "tagging" people, to point out certain spots within the post that either require a response from someone or alerted them to a potential roleplaying opportunity. It was mostly used to with larger posts, where the character was interacting with multiple characters, and where the players were working within different game-time frames.

For instance, in my post, I could have stopped after Pio pointed out the sign to the group and waited for your guys' response. However, I had Pio also ask the group if they should check the tavern out now or continue on their way. This pushed the story forward a bit, because really that's the decision we need to make -- check it out now... or stick to our plan.

The space between the two questions ("hey, isn't that the place?" and "should we check it out?") was left open, and you all were tagged, as an opportunity to roleplay. Should you go for it, the dialogue between the character will expand and develop, leading to a (in my opinion) richer story. (And I'm all about story! )

While I didn;t write it, I also work under the asumption that, if need be, I'll edit out Pio's last question. For instance, if you all say, "Nah, Goddfrey didn't say Freeman's way... he said Reitman's Place." well, then, Pio will go with the group's decision.

Anyway... I think I gave you WAY more info than you were looking for, and may have even not been to clear in my response.

... It's really just my way of saying, "Get off yer butts and post something, cuz I just did..."
