Subject: Hi gang

I'm so sorry to keep everyone waiting, but I've been under the weather for quite some time, and today, a job opportunity came up that I have to pursue in the short term (I read the description and qualifications and it's like it was addressed to me).

So...I haven't even begun to research Khords, but hope to by the weekend. I hope that is ok with all.

I hate not being able to use the computer, and my laptop has the amazingly annoying ability to rotate the display without warning. Takes me quite sometime to move the mouse in a counterintuitive direction in order to get into the control panel and fix it.

No dancing naked, though, as it usually happens at work, and I just couldn't subject my coworkers to that kind of horror.

Angela watched the goings on with a hawkish alertness that none of the party had witnessed since they day they’d rescued her from the prison mob. Her hand rested lightly on the sleeping man’s chest, but there was coiled danger in the set of her jaw.

It didn’t seem necessary, though, as Kane and Mel headed back to the table without incident, Phil and Grace joining them as the waitress collected Arthur and gently led him away. Angela’s stance relaxed and she threw a wistful glance at Arthur’s departing back.

“There goes my sandwich, I guess,” Angela muttered, then looked wide-eyed at Kane’s stare. “What? I didn’t go anywhere…he came over to me!” She shrugged, then let herself drop back into her chair.

Grace told everyone about what they’d heard about Watson, and Angela nodded without comment. More and more of the fire and steel drained out of her as the sense of danger passed, and the sensation distracted her from the conversation. The player was a novelty (she wondered if it would play Oatie Fruity Girls vids) but building layouts and security codes didn’t seem as important as being vaguely hungry and more vaguely troubled by the sense that she’d been different…for just that fleeting moment.

The front doors of the bar burst open and four police officers armed with assault rifles and wearing body armour charge in. At the same time, you hear the sound of the back door being crashed as well and the screams from some of the barmaids. The low buzz overhead tells of a hover vehicle circling overhead.

One of the officers speaks into a megaphone, causing his voice to echo across the room. “No one move! This is a joint Police and Alliance Special Forces raid! Everyone freeze and put them up!”

Distantly, Angela say Kane hide the player down the front of his pants and heard him tell everyone to stay calm, but that feeling of steely fire had come roaring back and she could hardly hear anything over the sound of her own heartbeat in her ears. She raised her hands meekly, her expression mildly frightened, but her racing mind was calculating distances and trajectories and rates of fire for the weapons carried by the Alliance men, as well as those carried by the bar patrons. She also began to consider whether or not the table would be substantial enough to act as a shield. One firm upward kick along her edge would send it up and onto its side, and she’d be able to hide behind it when the bullets and energy pulses began to fly. For now she waited though, the tension fairly humming along her nerve endings.

Incrediboy's birthday is November 30th, and Mighty Miss V was due April 30, but she was in such a hurry, she was born April 28th.

Years have been omitted to protect the aged, but let it be known that Tann's older (barely )

And then his daughter responded with,"Didn't you wear that, like, five years ago? Time to move on."

For those of you into social media, not only does Nathan Fillion tweet, but so does Richard Castle (WriteRCastle).During the summer break, Castle's tweets were about an investigation, so it was like following the show via Twitter. He even asked his followers what his Halloween costume should be (I voted for Browncoat )

Subject: Woohoo! Fellow players! Hello!

Angela watched the interplay between the man beside her and the waitress, a bemused smile flickering on her lips. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d seen adults be playful; everyone seemed so serious, normally.

That changed for her when Kane’s man passed, followed by the blonde man Grace had been so interested in. The light in Angela’s eyes died as her expression hardened, her body suddenly still. She watched the two men pass and almost absentmindedly steadied the drunken man as he stumbled and fell onto the table.

“Did I get you into bed already my dear? I seem to be lying down. Hahahaha. I should have at least introduced myself first. I’m Arthur, and you are?”

“I’m busy, Arthur,” Angela replied without looking at him, her tone clipped and businesslike,” I can’t play anymore.”

The Asian man and his posse (for Angela now realized that several men had joined him, and she cursed herself for not spotting them earlier) surrounded Phil and the blonde woman he’d been so set on meeting. Angela felt herself tensing as she waited for Phil’s reaction.

“This can go so bad,” she muttered to no-one in particular.

Angela sits quietly alone at the table. She knows that there is something wrong about this, and she looks down at her hands rather than let the whole room see her frown. Something somebody said…keep her close…keep her safe…that’s what the farmer said… Angela scowled as she tried to dive deeper into the black water of her memory. That’s not right – not a farmer…it was…a SHEPHERD!

“A shepherd,” she murmured to herself, and the smile on her face as she lifted her head was beatific, lighting her plain features and making her almost memorable. “Not just a shepherd, but a fisher of men!” Angela all but clapped her hands in delight at knowing she’d remembered something. On the other hand, the memory confirmed what she was thinking: that she shouldn’t be alone.

“Hello Girls! “, announced a remarkably short man as he plunked down in the seat beside Angela. She’d have been more startled, but the cloud of scent had reached her just a moment before he spoke. “Well, I mean just you but Hello Girls sounds so much more friendly than Hello Girl, which just sounds like my father. So what’s a good looking place like you doing in a girl like this? Can I buy you a sandwich? I know I’m suppose to buy you a drink but I’m kinda hungry right now, you know what mean?”

Angela tilted her head and gave him a frank assessment, her gaze as open and guileless as a child’s. She took in his once fine but worn clothes, his messy hair and the abundance of alcohol on his breath and concluded that if necessary, she could take him down. Besides, if he sat with her, she’d no longer be alone. Decision made, her smile returned in full force.

“I’d love a sandwich, Mister. I honestly can’t remember when I last ate!”

Subject: Maybe that word does not mean what I think it does...

Angela knew that she sometimes got things mixed up. She wouldn’t remember something, and sometimes her brain would just put something else in its place. She’d been all excited that she’d remembered yesterday’s lunch, but then Grace had gently explained that she’d been told earlier, and it had been Grace’s protein paste and bread wrap she’d been “remembering”, not her own meal of miso soup. It was frustrating, so Angela was never sure of the little details she could recall.

As far she knew, however, she didn’t get words mixed up. English and Mandarin, it didn’t matter; she was pretty sure she knew the words. When Mel had said,” You three stay here. And I mean it…” Angela was pretty certain that meant not getting up and leaving the table.

The news vid was playing in the background, and Angela listened with half her attention, also taking in the conversations around her. None of it made sense but it didn’t matter, it filled the emptiness inside. A woman entered the bar, but Angela, after a quick scan, had dismissed her and gone back to watching Kane, Melanie and the man with them, wishing she could make out what they were saying. Phil, however, went all a quiver and dashed off towards the woman, all but wagging his tail in eagerness. Grace tried to call him back, but he was gone.

“…..didn’t know that Mr. Watson had a bad heart and apparently died during routine questioning …” Angela caught in the sounds surrounding her and she looked back at the screen above the TV. Grace cursed beside her and Angela looked to the red haired girl, who was fishing around in her bag as inconspicuously as she could.

“I hope Watson is a common name, like Chan or Smith,” Angela commented to Grace, wide-eyed.” Otherwise, we’re pooched.” Grace didn’t seem to be paying attention, though, and she clearly didn’t understand what “stay here” meant, as she, just like Phil, got up and left the table.

Angela was left at the table, all alone, hands on the table and feet planted firmly. She now had three main fields to track: Kane, Mel and the man, Phil and the blonde, and Grace now walking around. Angela could feel her heartbeat picking up speed and she wished dearly someone would tell her what was going on.

And great starting posts, everyone!

My equipment list:

2 X Marakov pistols (50c)
Ammo for both - 4 mags of 6 (1c)
Basic outfit (4c)
Combat knife (2c)
Throwing Knives, set of 3 (3c)
notebook and pencil (priceless)

Left some credits left over to account for your price for ammo, and wanted to be sure I had proper belts, holsters and sheathes for the weapons. Anything she had left would be spent on stimulants, legal or otherwise.

Angela brushed her wild tangle of brown hair out of her eyes and shifted in her seat. She wanted stronger coffee but didn’t have the credits for the really good expresso she could smell. She could hear Phil and Grace talking about how the jukebox worked (Grace was doing most of the explaining, and Phil mostly listening with admiration) but she knew that was something she didn’t have to know.

She was surprised by the certainty of that impression, and closed her eyes a moment to ponder why she’d think something wasn’t necessary. Poking at the thought was like prodding a sore tooth with your tongue, though, and she opened her eyes again to track a man approaching Kane at the bar with purpose. Something in her tightened into watchfulness, her expression hardening, but then loosened again as the man seemed to do little more than talk with Kane. She watched their conversation as it was something to do.

When the others started talking amongst themselves about what was happening, Angela murmured the gist of the conversation to them, vaguely surprised that they couldn’t see the words for themselves. It wasn’t as if Kane or the other man were hiding their mouths or anything. She did wonder if she’d forgotten about the blonde, and she itched to haul out her notebook and double-check, but something told her to be inconspicuous and not make any sudden moves.

Melanie clearly didn’t feel the same way. "You three stay here, and I mean it. Let me try something." She ordered, and Angela felt the hardness in her slackening as Melanie strode over to join Kane and the stranger. Angela still watched, but she’d placed her hands on the table where they could be seen, and she sat up straight, like a schoolgirl in class. She’d been given a clear order, and Angela was a good girl; she always listened.

Alacrity has had us in stitches at times with our critical and fumble rolls. He's pretty good at altering it based on the weapon and character in question, and we'd all have a laugh (if a fumble) or cheer (if a critical roll).

I still get teased about the time Vanadia fumbled a dagger throw and plugged the group's mage squarely between the shoulders. I think Alacrity insisted that backstab damage be applied and so our mage nearly died from "friendly fire".
