So my holiday trip ended up being a week longer than anticipated. What was anticipated was the lack of internet access. I had it once for about fifteen minutes, which was liberating, but a bit of a shock at first for an interwebs junkie like myself.

I also slept for two days after coming back.

Upon being completely rested, refreshed, and back into the work grind, I am ready for some gaming!

Subject: Kate ~ ONWARD, GILLIGAN

The PDA. There is something very odd about this.

Kathryn McDonnell stared down at the electronic device in her hand. It felt heavy, cold, and completely foreign, as though it hadn’t been there moments ago. Suddenly, she clasped it protectively to her chest and a sense of relief washed over her. Katie only then realized how nice it was to have a complete lack of chauvinistic prigs and drug addicts in their group.

She swung into very spacious cargo space of the icecream van and perched on the deep freezer as Percy kicked the vehicle into gear.

“Onward, Icecream Man,” she exclaimed, gesticulating with the K ration that Vitali had given to her, “to cards, to booze, AND TO HOT AND GREASY PUB FOOD.”

The icecream truck rocked gently as Percy came to a stop. Katie moved to stare out the service window towards the entrance. As though someone had cued them from off stage right, two ridiculously dressed Aussies strolled forward. Their strange mash-up of cockney and third grade grammar was easily discernible over the tinny calliope music issuing from the truck’s speakers. If that alone hadn’t made Katie want to punch them in the face, their “get in the door” approach did.

“Soddin’ idiots,” she mumbled, leaning forward on her elbows to watch the show. Her hand slapped her forehead as ‘Columbo’ quickly reached forward to try and get in. Only when the Aussie stopped mid pose did Katie realize how beefed up security had become since the last time she had been in this joint. The Aussies rocketed through the air, only barely missing their bizarre vehicle.

”F***.” Katie whispered under her breath. ”Telekinetic Super Bouncers.”

This place was a hell of a lot swankier since the last time she had been in.

She and Vitali went on to explain what and who TBSs were. Percy seemed to think she was adding to whatever little diddy he had been singing to himself; Downhouser, well, he was Downhouser.

“We’re here, guys,” Percy said with a disturbing grin, “What’re we gonna do, now?”

“I say we get in there, do a little gambling, have something to drink, and gather some f***ing information,” she said quietly, “We know where we need to go after this; it’s time to find out how hard it’s going to be. If anything, just find out if people are already on our trail. I say half an hour, hour tops, and we meet back here.”

Katie reached up and pulled her hair out of its bun. Long auburn tresses shook down around her shoulders, and she ran her fingers through it to smooth it down. She unbuttoned the top button of her shirt and pulled it down so an ample amount of creamy cleavage threatened to tumble out.

“Alright, let’s do this thing,” she said, throwing open the sliding door.

As they filed out of the van, Katie slipped her arm into Downhouser’s and began pulling him towards the two bouncers.

“Come on,” she whispered back to the others, “stay as a group. My name might actually be on there; I have played the tables here before.”

The two TSBs looked as imposing as ever as they approached the door. She looked at them calmly and said, “McDonnell.”

Subject: Future collaborations and holiday break

I believe a future collab between myself and Vanadia is in order. Please feel free to have Angela be as much of a headcase as you wish . I will leave it all up to your interpertation. Let's just say Tess will be prepared for a little 'dancing'.

I am happy to rp this out if anyone is confused by Tess's suggestion about waking Angela up in the morning.

I didn't mean to ignore Catie's question; Angela's distressed state needed to be addressed first. I can imagine that the shopping trip into town will leave Tess's mouth watering if Catie begins to start describing recipes.

Ody and I have already discussed a one on one. If it doesn't happen before we take off, I'm sure it will go down on our way to the cruise.

I will be pretty absent this next week for the holidays. I will probably have internet access, but I have no idea if I will have time to post.

Subject: Tess ~ A deals a deal, even if it is a shoddy one

"I disobeyed, Grace," Angela practically whispered as she spoke, “You told me to relax and not draw attention to myself. I didn't do that so well. I couldn't help it...the deal was going south and we need this job, right?" The girl was beginning to work herself into a frenzy. Tess frowned as her voiced raised in pitch, "And I guess that was part of keeping everybody safe 'cause I just found myself speaking up and Badger seemed to like it...and then Jon agreed to everything and it's a bad deal, Grace! We're in deep kimchee and it's all my fault."

“Yer darn tootin’ right it’s a bad deal,” Tess said flatly, “but it ain’t yer fault, jei-jei, no way. Had we known before hand he’d take so kindly to yah, things might’n have gone down a bit different like. In a good way,” she paused and cocked her eyebrow at Angela.

“Point is,” the pilot moved to sit down at the table, “Capt’n’s had his knickers in a twist fer a while now, and that ain’t nobody’s fault but his own. I’m thinkin’ it might’n be time fer me to knock a little sense into that thick skull of his. In the meanwhile, we honor our word and do the job. Better to be shovelin’ frozen manure fer pennies on the dollar than going back on an oath.

“Now Ang, if ya’ll want to come into resupply with Catie and I, yer more than welcome. Though it might’n be a good idea to do a little journalin’?”

Tess took a drink from her cup. How much did she want to reveal, given that Catie had barely been aboard Destiny for more than an hour?

“If Catie could be so kind as to be fixin’ breakfast for the both of us early, I’ll be waiting outside yer door with a tray after yer mornin’ rituals. Give us a chance to debrief before we see to our new passengers. No orders, just girl talk. Sound good?”

I've got to admit, I am a little confused on character creation. Mainly combining the d6 rolls that were provided? I'll muddle it out.

And I've changed my other mind! I'm making up a hare-brained roguey rogue!

EDIT: I just found the breakdown on using the d6 rolls. I'm good!

I am sorry if I gave you that impression. Angela's Advanced Metabolism Asset/Complication makes for an interesting role playing element. No doubt it is obvious how she is consistantly hungry compared to the rest of the crew's eating habits. I would imagine Tess got in the habit of offering Angela food whenever there seemed to be a lull.

The last two paragraphs in Angela's last post...

With that, she ripped away the cord holding her hair back, letting it float around and hiding her ashen face. She just wanted to get back to the ship without crying or throwing up or falling down. Find her hideaway cot and pull the blanket across. Close the box tight. Where did that come from?!

Angela didn’t get her wish…not right away. There was one too many people waiting at the ship, and from the way Stephanie spoke to the Captain, that person was joining the crew. Angela kept very quiet, ignoring her pounding head, and hoped people would forget she was there. Otherwise, they may decide the ship was too crowded and pack her away…..

certainly gave the impression that Angela didn't want to deal with all of this any more. I would imagine that the pounding headache and submissive posturing would be indicative to the crew how Angela was feeling. Tess recommended that she go lay down, but I purposefully didn't mention her again because I had no idea if Angela would go to her room or come with us to the galley.

If you would like Angela to have more one on one interaction with Tess, I am happy to do a collaberation via pms. When I rejoined Destiny, I was under the impression that Angela was more drawn to JC and Grace. Please let me know if I misunderstood.

Also: the last time I checked, Jon was in charge.

Subject: Tess ~ Tea 'n Gossip

Persephone, Eavesdown Docks, Destiny cargo Bay, 7:00 pm ST

Light flooded onto the ramp leading to the cargo bay, though no one waited inside.

Odd.

As they walked up the rise they could hear conversation drifting from the infirmary. Grace and Stephanie seemed to be speaking to a pretty young woman. Conversation abruptly halted at their approach. Grace gave a little wave and looked a Jon with bemused frown.

“Everyone. This is Catie Yueshi. Catie, this is Jon, Angela, Tess and JC. Catie is a colleague of mine that is well versed with prosthetics and genetics. I thought she might be able to help us so I invited her to join us.”

Jon snaps a concerned looked at Stephanie, “You’ve invited her to….. join us? You never said anything about needing help.”

Crossing her arms and leveling an icy look at Jon, “She needs a place to stay Jon…”

Tess watched Jon’s face contort with emotion. That, coupled with the uncomfortable look that came across Catie Yueshi’s face, Grace’s baffled expression, and JC’s murmured curse led to an extremely awkward moment.

This was just not Jon’s day.

The crew hovered uneasily, the new girl trying to ease the situation until finally, “Miss I don’t mean to be rude but you and the rest of crew need to leave Stephanie and me for a bit.”

Tess made a low whistle and pointed to the stairs.

“Come on,” she said, “Ang, if’n ya’ll want to lie down, we can bring some dinner to yer room.”

Angela really did look like she was in rough shape. It was hard to figure out what would set her off; Tess imagined that would be twice as hard on Angela than on the crew.

“Well looks like Mommy and Daddy are fighting,” Grace intoned, “We better give the love bird’s room to breathe.”

"So, has this happened before or is this a first?" Catie asked, "If they might be a while, perhaps we should move someplace more comfortable." She suggested, "This vessel does have a galley, right?"

“Yeah, we have a kitchen. Maybe Quing Ting could come with us and explain exactly what happened and what our new job. I also suspect Angela might be hungry,” offered Grace. Much to Tess’s surprise, the mechanic linked up arms with their newest charge, and ushered her into the galley.

“Besides you did offer to make tea and who knows? Maybe you will be the first to actually teach me how to make tea. Cause for some reason, I can rebuild entire ship engines, but somehow always manage to burn the tea.”

“Which is why I make the tea,” Tess emphasized. She pulled out her chipped tea set and a tin of jasmine. The exquisite tea that Uncle Benny had given her just before her stay on Rocinante had long run out, but the blue patterned cups and teapot he gifted had managed to survive.

“Look,” Tess said as she filled a pot with water and set it on the stove, “like I said before, the meetin’ were a bit hairy. Ang managed to smooth the rough bits over, but Jon did have his tongued tied six ways from Sunday with that huen dahn. The jist of it is that we’re pickin’ up a girl in the middle of the night, in the middle of gorram nowhere, with her weddin’ planner and body guard. Takin’ her to a fancy ship to git married as fast as we can git her there. Come back an’ git paid.”

“That reminds me.” Tess leaned forward on the counter, “We’re takin’ on two of our employer’s boys. He were pretty hush hush about the whole manner. Summit’ about doing a job fer him on that cruise we’re headin’ to. Can’t say I’m complainin’. They’re purty nice eye candy.”

LV-426, Rocinante, Kitchen 10:00 am PT

Everyone congregated back in Roc’s kitchen to get the plan finalized. Rage simmered on Tess’s backburners; she itched to do something reckless.

Wyatt laid everything on the table. Her heart sank when he told them they were scrapping the plan for repairs for Rocinante. It reminded her strongly of what happened to Destiny

“…I was figurin’ on Ma an’ Willow stayin’ with the patients in the medbay. Sifu is with the passengers, but I don’t like jus’ leavin’ the li’l guy alone with that lot. But we’re gonna need all the guns we got here when it comes right down to it. So, I’m open to suggestions. Because right now, I’m about t’ send Tess and--what’s-her-name?--Jessy?--to the caves t’ back Sifu up, an’ make sure Matherson an’ his boys stay in line. That’d leave me, Asher, Wolf, John, an’ Ma t’ take care of whatever firefight erupts here when the mercs show. So, if’n anyone has any better ideas, now’s the time t’ speak up, because Time...well, she ain’t on our side.”

Both Asher and Wolf weighed in. No matter which way you spun it, they were up a creek without a paddle.

“Either way,” Tess shrugged, “situation’s mighty humped. Merc’s might’n go lookin’ fer their boy in the cave. I do promise you I will git my hands on their craft and git us off this rock. Do ya’ll want me to see if I can’t flush our snake out of the caves?”

Alright, now that is out of the way.

What in seven slimy hells is going on here?

I mean, I reread the previous posts, saw that we were going to the Blue Room, and there was some half baked plan for us trying to get into the distribution warehouse? Through small time dealers? But we already have the two addresses for the warehouses.... that we were going to blow up?

I propose that the following discussion about what we are going to do once we get to the Blue Room happens during the ride in the ice cream truck to said place.

With that being said: Anyone have any idea as to what we are doing?

Subject: For Whom the Bell Tolls

The night was stiflingly hot. The setting of the sun did nothing to deter the heat aside from bringing a slight breeze to the valley. A few nobles were seen enjoying the slight change in temperature out in the lawns, but most had elected to stay indoors in the cool air of their stone mansions. Servants and slaves had achieved little during the day, and were relieved at the excuse of evening to retreat inside. Even the animals seemed to be in protest; as the night wore on an owl hooted incessantly within the grounds of the Trovatelli property.

The hooting of the owl did nothing to stir the silent figure in the tree. Dark eyes silently watched the guards perform their duties around the perimeter of the estate. Had any of them looked to the trees these last three days, all might have been lost. Even so, the figure was dressed from head to foot in black, a veil covering all but the eyes, and made it nearly impossible to pick out an outline in this low light. As it was, their gaze was kept to either the grounds, or the high brick wall surrounding the manor. It was near false light; the guards would change hands soon, but not so soon as to provide fresh eyes before beginning the task.

As the last sentry rounded the mansion's corner, the Veiled Fox slipped from the limbs, rolling to a stand after hitting the grass. The Fox's gaze reached a window set several stories up in the stone building. The figure darted across the manicured lawn, skirting around trees and through the shadows, and launched itself towards the side of the structure. Hands wrapped in dark cloth gripped at slender edges in the stone, and the Veiled Fox began ascending.

The window had been left open in hopes to entice the cool breeze into the room beyond. The figure slithered into the room, and crouched against the wall. An opulent rug softened the stone worked floor, several plush pieces of furniture could be discerned in the gloom, and rich selections of art lined the walls. The soft sounds of sleeping came from a large canopy bed dominating the room. The Veiled Fox stood and crossed to the bed, soft soled shoes muffled further by the carpet.

The man sleeping on his side looked like he was in his late forties, well fed, and his head showed a modest receding line. The sheets had been kicked off, and he was bare all except a small cloth covering his essentials. Glistening sweat covered his skin. The figure watched the sleeping man momentarily, observed the even breathing of deep sleep, the twitching of eyes, and the occasional tremble of an unknown dream. In the distance the church bells rang out softly, calling the hour of predawn.

In a fluid motion, the Veiled Fox unsheathed a pair of blackened daggers. The figure shifted to straddle the man, and in the same movement gently grabbed his shoulder. The motion was like a lover's, shifting him to his back as the figure rested upon the abdomen. The man's eyes opened sleepily to look up into the dark ones above him. As the haze in his eyes moved to confusion, the Veiled Fox slipped the daggers into his chest, puncturing both of his lungs. The man opened his mouth in a scream that never came out.

Time has come upon you now,
With the tolling of the bell
Let my daggers taste your flesh,
And send you straight to hell.

Eyes above the veil watched as a mixture of blood and saliva bubbled out of the man's mouth. His hands came up to grab the figure, and were instantly restrained by his assailant. The struggle didn't continue for long. The pudgy fingers relaxed, and his eyes glazed over in the misty death. The Veiled Fox watched those eyes for a moment longer before wiping the daggers clean on the frilly pillow under the victim's head. Without any further regard to the room, she slipped out into night.

“…and so neither brother nor father could banish the great demons that descended upon them. Blood spilled like a mighty river, and Great Mother’s tears descended from the heavens. Children left would march at spear point, leaving destruction and dissent in their wake…”

The wood bound tome was gently cradled in one boney hand. The words Lantaraana • Uuranoromuva: Sangane • Valya were neatly carved into its cover; the wood had a burnished glow from many years of being handled. Two other manuscripts sat upon the table next to a large pot of tea and half finished meal; The Legend of Deramas Therratrem, a small but stout book covered in red leather; and beneath that Aralith's Periodical on Dark Gods, bound in birch bark and held together by several lengths of jute twine. A journal, along with inkwell and quill, lay open in front of the frail woman.

The elderly elf took a dainty sip from her tea before turning the page, completely engrossed in the text. She would come to the Bleeding Lute twice a week. It gave the people of the village an opportunity to see her, ask her advice on ailments, and set up appointments for those in need of advanced healing. This allowed her some privacy in her home, and encouraged the villagers to see her here rather than trek out to her little hovel in the woods. Most nights found her at this spot with a few books along with a meal, and tonight was no different.

Therratrem’s account on Steppe Exodus seems to confirm Setting Moon Rising Sun text, she scribbled into the journal laid before her, along with some disturbing passages found in Aralith's Periodical; though prophecies...

“Milady,” a soft voice prompted suddenly into her flow of writing, “would you mind if I joined you?”

Her light eyes glanced up and briefly took in the older gentleman before her. His hands clutched a long staff, and he gestured at the chair opposite. Her mind was too wrapped up in the flow of her thoughts to take in much more; she gestured at the chair with the hand still holding the quill. The chair slid away from the table of its own accord, and she continued to write.

...though prophecies are ambivalent by nature, I am still concerned by the implications. There have always been allusions to events occurring time and time again in history. To my horror, I am forced to consider the prospect that this is mirroring incidents that happened over the last three decades. And what of the Twin Storms? Tonight I will be sure to speak to Jerum, if he stops by the Lute, and make sure he brings back current periodicals from his regular trip to the city.

Satisfied, the elderly elf closed the heavy wooden tome, pushed it under the other two books, and carefully laid the journal on top of the pile to let the ink dry. Her boney hands twisted a cork stopper into the inkwell.

“Well now,” her voice was strong despite the deep lines of age that crisscrossed her face, “what ails you, young man?”
