Subject: Kaimelle ~ Oh yeah, like we'd leave you in there ^_^

Kaimelle struggled to keep track of everything that was happening; it all moved so quickly. The tormentor seemed to be recovering from her blinding spell, and took his anger out on the Gano. Unable to see precisely what was going on, she did hear the horrible clash on metal, followed by a sickening tearing noise. The red haired man fell to the floor in a heap with blood rushing forth from his chest.

“Much better now. That's a fancy trick you've got, lily. A wonder you never showed me these before.” His cruel smile widened as he took a step towards her. Her mind buzzed with panic; she only seemed to see the sword in the man’s hands, and smell the blood from the Gano.

That’s me. I’m next. I’m next.

Her tormenter turned on the spot to engage the Slyn, who looked infuriated. The mercenary’s cry of pain as he took a blow to the thigh snapped her out of her reverie.

Rideygo, 1012
…”You are not helpless!” Leanna had screamed at me. She doesn’t understand. Does she not see the fear in these humans for those who wield Ether, and what they’ve done to them? She tells me that it’s within our right to defend ourselves. Our argument was long and heated. The blood from my nose ruined both my dress, and hers.
From the Memoirs of Kaimelle Tir’Anoron Part I

Determination reentered her mind, and she thrust her hands forward, into the Ether. Two balls of energy filled her palms, humming excitedly with deadly power. She hurled them one after another at the tormenter, and his reactive flinch told her that she had struck true. Kaimelle thrust her hands forward again and two more orange balls of energy filled them once more. She flung them forward, this time hitting his two arms.

“Insects!” He whirled towards her and his blade came into contact with her midsection. Light danced in front of her eyes momentarily, and again she was protected from his blow. He restarted the fight with the Slyn, and Kaimelle looked to the Gano. His blood slicked the floor, but he still seemed to be alive. At least, his chest was moving.

Like two hawks in the night, the Raslan and the Holy Man came swiftly into the corridor out of the darkness. The Raslan looked almost ridiculous with a spear four times his size hefted under one arm, but he quickly discarded it in favor of a different blade. He circled around and placed himself between her and her tormentor. The Holy Man came into position to help the Slyn, and the man in black suddenly thrust his hand down his shirt.

“Four against one?” She couldn’t see his face, but it sounded sour, “These odds are too much for me...” His arm shifted, and a portal opened up just long enough for him to fall through. The bearded man’s last swing met nothing but air.
The Holy Man wasted no time in dropping his shield and attending to the downed Gano. His eyes closed meditatively for a moment before his whispered, “I called out to the Librarian. But nobody answered.”

The metallic smell of blood filled her nose. A sudden rush of sound met her ears as the adrenaline from the battle began to wear off. She leaned against the wall, attempting to ground herself to something as she felt corridor closing in on her. Her head pounded with pain. So tired…

"Are you alright my Lady?"

Her glowing eyes looked down to the Raslan’s.

“Uuma dela, Ai’Aratoamin,” she said to him with a faint smile. Her hand gestured to the fallen warrior before them, “Worry about him.”

Discussion began as to how to handle the Gano. The Raslan’s cold logic made sense, but Kaimelle felt like it was the wrong decision after everything he had done for her. The Slyn’s frown seemed to echo her thoughts.

"Is there nothing to be done?" he said to the Holy Man, "What about the orange salve? And the leaves? Couldn't we use that?"

The Mith’ganni placed a cold hand over her eyes, hoping it would help her focus on the present, “If you have herbs, it should bring him around long enough to get him to walk. Binding his chest with a cloth or a shirt wouldn’t go amiss either.”

“Take her," the Slyn was saying. She moved her hand to see that he was speaking to the Raslan, “and see if you can unlock the door, and find the girl." Something ground into place, and she realized the absurdity of being rescued by people she didn’t even know, who didn’t care who she was as long as she was set free.

“Kaimelle,” she said to the Slyn, “I’m Kaimelle. Come, Ai’Aratoamin. Let’s liberate some prisoners.” They hadn’t moved far from the locked door, and she inspected it to see there was any trace of the Ether on it. The commotion they had caused with the man in black had apparently roused the prisoners inside. Someone stood just to the inside of the door and began pleading with them as they contemplated the door.

"Hey, unlock the door! Free these people and ensure their safety, and I can help your friend. I can save his soul, keep him from dying. Let us out and he'll be saved!"

Annoyance trickled through the Mith’ganni’s senses, “We would unlock the door and save you even if you couldn’t save our friend. No one deserves to be locked up in this hell hole.” Her glowing eyes penetrated through the bars into the cell inside.

No one…

OOC: Um… spellcraft check to see if there is any magical, er, traps or anything else connected to the door? ^_^

It'll be so rough having to eat all of that smoked meat this weekend. Here's hoping that the weather is good in your neck of the woods so you can be outside and grilling before fall really hits!

Did I mention there will be a Bluegrass Festival at the event too? Alright, who's coming with me?

This is set up for anyone who has questions or would like to comment on the new personal creation between Eol and I called “Into the Deep and Out of the Waves”. It’s based on the upcoming new race that Eol is creating called Ayalualie, who are sea elves. Stay tuned into the Audalis for Eol’s new creation!

We’re creating a whole new set of elven words more suited to aquatic life to update the Gray Company Elven Dictionary. Let me know if you’d like anything translated before we get that completed!

((OOC: A new personal creation betwixt Eol and I~ See the Q&A for details, and for your questions and comments!))

By the time the first fury of the tempest had spent itself, or perhaps we did not feel it so much, as we scudded before it, but at all events the seas, which at first had been kept down by the wind, and lay flat and frothing, now got up into absolute mountains. A singular change, too, had come over the heavens. Around in every direction it was still as black as pitch, but nearly overhead there burst out, all at once, a circular rift of clear sky - as clear as I ever saw - and of a deep bright blue - and through it there blazed forth the full moon with a lustre that I never before knew her to wear. She lit up everything about us with the greatest distinctness - but O God, what a scene it was to light up!
-Edgar Allan Poe, "A Descent into the Maelström"

“I told you no!”

“And I am telling you yes!”

“There’s no reason for it!”

“There is every reason for it! They have to know!”

Darkness reigned in the depths of the ocean. Night feeders had come out of hiding while day dwellers either secreted away or swam lazily in their slumber. That is, all but two Ayalualie who had taken shelter in a small natural cavern a ways away from their nothrim. The pitch that the argument was reaching would soon rouse the others. Inside the cavern the water was growing steadily warm with the heat of the quarrel.

Talitha had to force herself to grit her teeth. Her mind screamed out at her atara, and she clamped down on her tongue for fear of waking the rest. A small trickle of blood escaped the side of her mouth, and in a distant corner of her mind it registered that her scent was now on the current. It made a brief appearance before being replaced with foreign images of hate and despair.

“You have no idea,” she hissed savagely at Liana.

“No, you have no idea,” Liana shot back, “they will catch you and use you for fish bait! There is no end to their hatred!

“There must be! They have to listen!”

“Listen to what, Talitha? Besides, they have forgotten how to listen, tinu en amin,” Liana said in a gentler voice. Her eyes filled with remorse, and perhaps something close to pity. “Van’Talath possesses, and creates war in attempt to possess more. They have no thought of the future; they only care for what is happening now.”

Emotion afflicted the young Ayalualie’s face, “But what of the -- “

“Speak of not of that! You know it’s forbidden!” Liana’s face grew red with rage, “You spoke to me once before, and that was enough! It is not possible!” she drew breath, and as she did Talitha worked to control her rage quakes, “Cast it from your mind, Tal. These things are not worth you getting worked up over. Those whose minds dwell on land are as muddled and foggy as their weather.”

The argument was over, and she knew it. All spats with her ended with some proverb before Liana turned her back on her. Her mother gave yet one more look of sympathy before leaving the small cavern. Fine sand was kicked up as Liana jettisoned over towards the sleeping ho’leitha, and Talitha watched it settle with a scowl.

Heat was on her face, and her dark green hair whipped about like it was in a violent current. It felt like a hot water geyser, but with a completely foreign quality: lack of water. Colors seemed to be pressing down upon her. They were stunning, vivid, and exotic. Noise of metal on metal clashed about her, and the sharpness of the sound made her ears hurt. From somewhere in the distance, a loud, musical note began to thrum. There was no mistaking what it meant; it was a call. The sound shook the ground; she could feel it throbbing in her heart. As suddenly as a shift in the tide, the raging torrent stopped. Something dark spread out above her, blotting out the great light orb in the sky…

Anguish and frustration pounded through her body; through her very soul. She reached into the woven gwaimon bag set on the surface of the cavern, and extracted a dull golden shell. The cybrina glistened in her hand, and she stared intently at it before throwing it towards the wall. The momentum of the light object only took it about five feet from her in the dark water. The water churned and undulated as she kept picking it up and throwing it in different directions.

“Stupid…!” idiots! Not seeing what’s in front of their faces! She threw it.

How can you be so “…blind!” Another throw.

“How dare you…!?” leave me with no other choice! Tal hurled it with more violence.

“So caught up with tradition!” Her mind immediately thought back to her mother. Her mother, whom she confided in. Her mother, whom she had told about the visions. Her mother, who scoffed at the whole ordeal, who shrugged it off like a passing nightmare. Visions used to be normal for the Ayalualie! Was it so unusual that they would reappear in times of need?

“Amin delotha lle!” she cried to the wall. The sound reverberated dully back. Those were her words; did they sound so feeble to everyone else? Talitha flung the shell towards the gwaimon bag, and drifted slowly to the floor. Her dark eyes showed nothing of sadness or guilt, but determination. It would happen, and it would happen soon. Something had to be done. Her slender, webbed hand reached out and picked up the shell. She stared intently at it, locking this moment within its ridges.

A fiery wind blasted across his face. The force behind it made him want to shut his eyes, but he couldn’t look away from the scene that was laid out before him. Battle raged all down the hillside. The clanking of armor and the ring of steel on steel resounded through the air. The smell of blood and sweat was heavy on the wind, nearly choking him. In the distance, a gong sounded. Its continual thrums made him want to respond; to run to the source, but he couldn’t move his feet. The resonance made the ground shake, and he could feel it throughout his body. The field quieted and a sudden darkness filled the sky, blotting out the sun.

Dylan Haynes woke with a start. The sound of the gong still filled his ears.

That damned dream again.

He kicked out of his tangled bed covers and sat up. Moonlight crept into the small room, casting an eerie glow upon the floor. How many more sleepless nights was he to endure? He ran his fingers through his prematurely thinning hair, and decided to get up.

Though these dreams had been coming to him since he was a young child, in the last few years they had increased in number and intensity. When he had confided in his parents, they had attempted to dissuade him; telling him they were nothing more than nightmares and assuring him that he would grow out of it.

But he hadn’t.

As the terrors continued on, becoming bloodier with the years, they took measures to keep him sedated during most of his nights. It was only in his later teens that he found out that Mom and Dad had been drugging his evening meals. Thinking back on it now still made him sick to his stomach.

But was it better then waking up night after night in fits?

No, he thought irritably as he wandered down the hall towards the kitchen. No parent should ever drug their child like that. Not without telling him that it might help.

There was no need to light a candle; the full moonlight filtering through the windows was as sufficient as several would have been. The shudders had been thrown back to admit the cool summer night air. He set himself to work on slicing a piece of bread and some cheese, and once again forgetting the horrors he had dreamed of that night.

Subject: Tess ~ Aw screw it. Let's par-ty!

Lights flashed on the board as Tess began the sequence to take Destiny out of orbit. She flicked a side switch and the proxy came up on one of her side screens. Alliance. With a quick check of the cruiser’s pulse beacon, the name Erikson flashes underneath the screen. She reached up and popped the goggles from around her eyes. There were all sorts of implications, but who was to say was the right one.

Her dark eyes met Jon’s light ones.

Jason interrupted the silent question with one of his own. “Tess, what have you got on them? I cleared us through port control…so there shouldn’t be a problem,” He paused and seemed to collect his thoughts.

Do I speak yet, or let these yokels hash it out?

“Though, I think we should hit our scheduled burn as soon as it comes time,” Jason continued, Hash it out. Capt’ll speak here in a minute, “ No reason to wait around on the chwen nien mohn to think up an excuse to stop us. Of course, it might not hurt to have Destiny setup for a full burn JIC.”

Ken added his two bits, including some wise words about the cruiser just checking people out and Jason smoothing things over.

Stephanie poked her head through the door, "Umm Guys....I think I found something that you need to see. Might want to call Grace as well, we'll need her.”

At this, Tess threw her hands in the air, “Naw, Doc. Grab everyone up and let’s all go start the party downstairs with that fine wine. Might as well invite the boys over from that there lovely cruiser to join the fun.”

“D’un Yi Shia doc,” Jason said standing up from the comm. console, “The cap, and Tess are a bit occupied at the moment, but I can come give you a hand,” he looked to Jon questioningly before adding, “Besides, if we need more help we can always grab Ken on our way,”

Ken took his leave immediately. His question of, “Something wrong with the ship?” could be heard as he followed the good doctor out of the bridge. Jon straightened up and started handing out orders.

A faint frown line began to appear on her forehead as he started running down the list. If they want us then they'll have to send an ASREV to catch us and that's fewer Feds to have to deal with. Scenario after scenario of ugly started flashing before her eyes as he was talking. She waited until he was done with his order before voicing her opinion.

“Sir,” she began, and pointed at the Alliance cruiser on the small screen, “that there beauty could blow us out of the sky if she wanted. No sights trained on us yet, but they might be itch’n if we jump the gun. And if they can’t get a lock on us, those Tohoku-class ships come equip with some pretty fast lil short rangers.

“Now, I ain’t sayin’ I can’t get us away,” she continued, sitting up from the back of her pilot’s chair, “ what I am saying is if we don’t have to get away, it’d be preferable. Running full tilt boogey is a bit suspicious, especially after just departin a ‘popular planet were the rich and famous come to play.’ After Jason’s little talk, let’s leave quickly, but not that quickly.”

She motioned her hands towards Jon, “Of course, Cap’n, if you want me to go full burn, I will. I’m just suggestion we might wait a little. Especially with whatever Steph's found, mighten be prudent.”

Max burn? Is that necessary? I agree we should scoot out of there, but going full out might look conspicuous. There's always time later on if we need to go full burn (but I doubt it. I mean... we aren't doing anything 'illegal'); no need to draw undo attention to ourselves.

Subject: Cynil ~ the Sound and the Fury

Blood pounded in the elf’s ears. The conversation that followed started giving way to the torrent of silent fear. The room began to spin wildly, and Cynil squeezed her eyes shut. Her heart began doing a violent thrum against her chest.

Stay calm. Stay calm.

But why? a small voice whispered into her mind, You’ll die here. Underground. Robbed of all things beautiful. You’ll die here, choking on your last breath as your friends around you perish, robbed of life as this tunnel is.’ll die here...
    sun.. moon... wind..
      ...without life..

A tear leaked out of the corner of her eye and left a track in the dust on her pale face. Terror began pressing down on all sides, make it seem like she couldn’t move. I can’t move...

“Now that is all better, you don’t cry anymore.” Maggot’s phantom voice came back to her echoing through her brain like the first voice had done, “Your friends are here and they are not going to leave you behind.” A soft touch. No more tears.

...tears more tears...

She opened her eyes; half hoping she was still outside of the cave under the holding spell. Her head pounded with blood and panic. The air was musty and quickly turning humid. Her gaze went to the half elf standing before her, explaining his plan to get the rest of the group out of the tunnel.

“…Those who can make themselves small do so and move forward.” Maggot was moving his staff back and forth on the sandy floor, “Then those who have teleport return leaving those who can not behind but not here but there.” He gestured at a circle he had drawn on the ground, “Then those with teleport will change back and teleport those who can not make themselves smaller.” He then moved the tip of his staff again, “and there you have my input. Don’t like it but it will work if we need it two.” His voice was filled with good nature as he looked ahead, "I don't think we have a pill to make us all small."

Cynil reached a slender hand out and rested it gently on Maggot’s arm. It was comforting touching another being, especially one who hadn’t lost their head yet. She was sucking in air in short bursts, and knew she needed to get her line of thinking in a different direction or face passing out. Her mind groped the edges of her personality, and she grabbed at the cynical humor that offered itself.

“No pills, Elda’kaimelar,” she said with a shaky smile, “but I do have some raisins in my pack that might do in short order.”
