Topic: Into the Deep and Out of the Waves Q&A
Subject: Into the Deep and Out of the Waves Q&A

This is set up for anyone who has questions or would like to comment on the new personal creation between Eol and I called “Into the Deep and Out of the Waves”. It’s based on the upcoming new race that Eol is creating called Ayalualie, who are sea elves. Stay tuned into the Audalis for Eol’s new creation!

We’re creating a whole new set of elven words more suited to aquatic life to update the Gray Company Elven Dictionary. Let me know if you’d like anything translated before we get that completed!

((OOC: A new personal creation betwixt Eol and I~ See the Q&A for details, and for your questions and comments!))

By the time the first fury of the tempest had spent itself, or perhaps we did not feel it so much, as we scudded before it, but at all events the seas, which at first had been kept down by the wind, and lay flat and frothing, now got up into absolute mountains. A singular change, too, had come over the heavens. Around in every direction it was still as black as pitch, but nearly overhead there burst out, all at once, a circular rift of clear sky - as clear as I ever saw - and of a deep bright blue - and through it there blazed forth the full moon with a lustre that I never before knew her to wear. She lit up everything about us with the greatest distinctness - but O God, what a scene it was to light up!
-Edgar Allan Poe, "A Descent into the Maelström"

“I told you no!”

“And I am telling you yes!”

“There’s no reason for it!”

“There is every reason for it! They have to know!”

Darkness reigned in the depths of the ocean. Night feeders had come out of hiding while day dwellers either secreted away or swam lazily in their slumber. That is, all but two Ayalualie who had taken shelter in a small natural cavern a ways away from their nothrim. The pitch that the argument was reaching would soon rouse the others. Inside the cavern the water was growing steadily warm with the heat of the quarrel.

Talitha had to force herself to grit her teeth. Her mind screamed out at her atara, and she clamped down on her tongue for fear of waking the rest. A small trickle of blood escaped the side of her mouth, and in a distant corner of her mind it registered that her scent was now on the current. It made a brief appearance before being replaced with foreign images of hate and despair.

“You have no idea,” she hissed savagely at Liana.

“No, you have no idea,” Liana shot back, “they will catch you and use you for fish bait! There is no end to their hatred!

“There must be! They have to listen!”

“Listen to what, Talitha? Besides, they have forgotten how to listen, tinu en amin,” Liana said in a gentler voice. Her eyes filled with remorse, and perhaps something close to pity. “Van’Talath possesses, and creates war in attempt to possess more. They have no thought of the future; they only care for what is happening now.”

Emotion afflicted the young Ayalualie’s face, “But what of the -- “

“Speak of not of that! You know it’s forbidden!” Liana’s face grew red with rage, “You spoke to me once before, and that was enough! It is not possible!” she drew breath, and as she did Talitha worked to control her rage quakes, “Cast it from your mind, Tal. These things are not worth you getting worked up over. Those whose minds dwell on land are as muddled and foggy as their weather.”

The argument was over, and she knew it. All spats with her ended with some proverb before Liana turned her back on her. Her mother gave yet one more look of sympathy before leaving the small cavern. Fine sand was kicked up as Liana jettisoned over towards the sleeping ho’leitha, and Talitha watched it settle with a scowl.

Heat was on her face, and her dark green hair whipped about like it was in a violent current. It felt like a hot water geyser, but with a completely foreign quality: lack of water. Colors seemed to be pressing down upon her. They were stunning, vivid, and exotic. Noise of metal on metal clashed about her, and the sharpness of the sound made her ears hurt. From somewhere in the distance, a loud, musical note began to thrum. There was no mistaking what it meant; it was a call. The sound shook the ground; she could feel it throbbing in her heart. As suddenly as a shift in the tide, the raging torrent stopped. Something dark spread out above her, blotting out the great light orb in the sky…

Anguish and frustration pounded through her body; through her very soul. She reached into the woven gwaimon bag set on the surface of the cavern, and extracted a dull golden shell. The cybrina glistened in her hand, and she stared intently at it before throwing it towards the wall. The momentum of the light object only took it about five feet from her in the dark water. The water churned and undulated as she kept picking it up and throwing it in different directions.

“Stupid…!” idiots! Not seeing what’s in front of their faces! She threw it.

How can you be so “…blind!” Another throw.

“How dare you…!?” leave me with no other choice! Tal hurled it with more violence.

“So caught up with tradition!” Her mind immediately thought back to her mother. Her mother, whom she confided in. Her mother, whom she had told about the visions. Her mother, who scoffed at the whole ordeal, who shrugged it off like a passing nightmare. Visions used to be normal for the Ayalualie! Was it so unusual that they would reappear in times of need?

“Amin delotha lle!” she cried to the wall. The sound reverberated dully back. Those were her words; did they sound so feeble to everyone else? Talitha flung the shell towards the gwaimon bag, and drifted slowly to the floor. Her dark eyes showed nothing of sadness or guilt, but determination. It would happen, and it would happen soon. Something had to be done. Her slender, webbed hand reached out and picked up the shell. She stared intently at it, locking this moment within its ridges.

A fiery wind blasted across his face. The force behind it made him want to shut his eyes, but he couldn’t look away from the scene that was laid out before him. Battle raged all down the hillside. The clanking of armor and the ring of steel on steel resounded through the air. The smell of blood and sweat was heavy on the wind, nearly choking him. In the distance, a gong sounded. Its continual thrums made him want to respond; to run to the source, but he couldn’t move his feet. The resonance made the ground shake, and he could feel it throughout his body. The field quieted and a sudden darkness filled the sky, blotting out the sun.

Dylan Haynes woke with a start. The sound of the gong still filled his ears.

That damned dream again.

He kicked out of his tangled bed covers and sat up. Moonlight crept into the small room, casting an eerie glow upon the floor. How many more sleepless nights was he to endure? He ran his fingers through his prematurely thinning hair, and decided to get up.

Though these dreams had been coming to him since he was a young child, in the last few years they had increased in number and intensity. When he had confided in his parents, they had attempted to dissuade him; telling him they were nothing more than nightmares and assuring him that he would grow out of it.

But he hadn’t.

As the terrors continued on, becoming bloodier with the years, they took measures to keep him sedated during most of his nights. It was only in his later teens that he found out that Mom and Dad had been drugging his evening meals. Thinking back on it now still made him sick to his stomach.

But was it better then waking up night after night in fits?

No, he thought irritably as he wandered down the hall towards the kitchen. No parent should ever drug their child like that. Not without telling him that it might help.

There was no need to light a candle; the full moonlight filtering through the windows was as sufficient as several would have been. The shudders had been thrown back to admit the cool summer night air. He set himself to work on slicing a piece of bread and some cheese, and once again forgetting the horrors he had dreamed of that night.

Subject: Tess ~ Aw screw it. Let's par-ty!

Lights flashed on the board as Tess began the sequence to take Destiny out of orbit. She flicked a side switch and the proxy came up on one of her side screens. Alliance. With a quick check of the cruiser’s pulse beacon, the name Erikson flashes underneath the screen. She reached up and popped the goggles from around her eyes. There were all sorts of implications, but who was to say was the right one.

Her dark eyes met Jon’s light ones.

Well?

Jason interrupted the silent question with one of his own. “Tess, what have you got on them? I cleared us through port control…so there shouldn’t be a problem,” He paused and seemed to collect his thoughts.

Do I speak yet, or let these yokels hash it out?

“Though, I think we should hit our scheduled burn as soon as it comes time,” Jason continued, Hash it out. Capt’ll speak here in a minute, “ No reason to wait around on the chwen nien mohn to think up an excuse to stop us. Of course, it might not hurt to have Destiny setup for a full burn JIC.”

Ken added his two bits, including some wise words about the cruiser just checking people out and Jason smoothing things over.

Stephanie poked her head through the door, "Umm Guys....I think I found something that you need to see. Might want to call Grace as well, we'll need her.”

At this, Tess threw her hands in the air, “Naw, Doc. Grab everyone up and let’s all go start the party downstairs with that fine wine. Might as well invite the boys over from that there lovely cruiser to join the fun.”

“D’un Yi Shia doc,” Jason said standing up from the comm. console, “The cap, and Tess are a bit occupied at the moment, but I can come give you a hand,” he looked to Jon questioningly before adding, “Besides, if we need more help we can always grab Ken on our way,”

Ken took his leave immediately. His question of, “Something wrong with the ship?” could be heard as he followed the good doctor out of the bridge. Jon straightened up and started handing out orders.

Finally.

A faint frown line began to appear on her forehead as he started running down the list. If they want us then they'll have to send an ASREV to catch us and that's fewer Feds to have to deal with. Scenario after scenario of ugly started flashing before her eyes as he was talking. She waited until he was done with his order before voicing her opinion.

“Sir,” she began, and pointed at the Alliance cruiser on the small screen, “that there beauty could blow us out of the sky if she wanted. No sights trained on us yet, but they might be itch’n if we jump the gun. And if they can’t get a lock on us, those Tohoku-class ships come equip with some pretty fast lil short rangers.

“Now, I ain’t sayin’ I can’t get us away,” she continued, sitting up from the back of her pilot’s chair, “ what I am saying is if we don’t have to get away, it’d be preferable. Running full tilt boogey is a bit suspicious, especially after just departin a ‘popular planet were the rich and famous come to play.’ After Jason’s little talk, let’s leave quickly, but not that quickly.”

She motioned her hands towards Jon, “Of course, Cap’n, if you want me to go full burn, I will. I’m just suggestion we might wait a little. Especially with whatever Steph's found, mighten be prudent.”

Max burn? Is that necessary? I agree we should scoot out of there, but going full out might look conspicuous. There's always time later on if we need to go full burn (but I doubt it. I mean... we aren't doing anything 'illegal'); no need to draw undo attention to ourselves.

Hooray! Glad you had a good time, TO. There isn't anything quite like going to a live concert.

Dvoloshin ~ sorry no one was here to greet you with coffee. Have fun at the day camp. What a fun age to play with and teach!

Pit, I'm so jealous! I think I need to invest in a couple of those shirts. Represent!

Work for me again today. Last night I was painting up my first dollar store gun in the steampunk style. Phelan and I are gearing up for Halloween since there aren't any -CON type events here. We have an amazing party we attend every year that's filled with adults who spend lots and lots of time on there costumes!

For example, a couple years ago someone came as a fridge, that opened and was keeping his beer cool, had magnets, and had a hat that was a cookie jar with chocolate chip cookies in it!

Have a fabulous day!

Subject: Kaimelle ~ Magic Missile Away!

Kaimelle watched the dance unfold around her. She knew that this man’s skill was excellent, and it pained her to watch her two new comrades be foiled so easily. Brick shards exploded into the air as the Gano’s sword hit the floor.

Focus…focus!

The bearded man slashed and made contact, the force of his swing carrying him to the side. The way was clear. The Mith’ganni’s moon eyes glowed brighter as she reached towards the Ether. It was more difficult now to exercise restraint; she was so tired and there was so much offering itself to her. Focus!

Blind him. Her slender fingers fanned out before her as she let the Ether flow from them. Colors shot down the hallway and into her tormenter’s eyes. His hand flung up to shield them from her spell, and the Gano took the advantage. The three of them struggled in combat, and it occurred to Kaimelle that they might fail.

Protect yourself. The elf shrouded herself in the Ether, adding a little more defense then the ragged and torn clothes she was wearing. It felt warm against her skin, and was a comforting thought as her mind wracked with options.

Hurt him. She knew the spell she wanted to cast would hurt him, even though he was engaged with her comrades. If only she could keep a hold of the Ether long enough to do it.

OOC: Magic Missile! Yup. For two rounds. ^_^

Subject: Raina ~ the patterns, THE PATTERNS!

Lightening streaked across the sky, momentarily revealing the faces of those entering in the cave. They made their way blindly into the gloom, guided only by Quarlin’s voice. Walls and ceiling weighed down upon them like oppressive hands, and no matter how wide the eyes had gotten, no details revealed themselves to those who couldn’t see in the dark.

Raina was just wondering if she could find her tinderbox in the dark, when the tunnel suddenly opened. Into what, she had no idea, and she opted to stand still while the Umbral decided what to do.

"I Don't know what you all can see but from my view, we are pretty safe at the moment,” Quarlin said into the darkness. Safe is good. “ Raina, if you feel up to it, I know you are more used to picking locks, but if you would take this sunrod, you will see three doors. I'd feel better if you could find a way to lock them from our side so we can rest safely and without disturbance."

“Uhhhh…” the burglar started, but before she could voice what a ridiculous notion that was for someone who couldn’t even see the doors, Quarlin cracked a sunrod. Accepting it without comment, Raina took a moment to let her eyes adjust to the light.

As soon as she saw it, she followed the Umbral over to the pit in the middle of the room.

“This is convenient,” she said darkly. Raina cast a significant look and Heironymous before turning to the doors. She began examining each one closely. No locks. The more she looked at them, the worse she felt. Her eyes danced up and down the pattern on the doors, and after making sure that none of them had a way to lock them, she came over and sat down next to the fire. Nausea hit her, and she tried not to retch.

“Nothing,” she panted, holding her injured side and trying to steady the dizziness that infected her mind, “nothing to lock. Nothing to open it, nothing to close it. Nothing. They are doors alright, but they lack all the right parts to be doors.”

OOC:I figured all that looking at crazy patterns made her feel pretty ill. ^_^

Subject: Tess ~ preflight checks check out!

“You got that right, sweet cheeks.”

Through the oncoming headache, Tess managed a small grimace in Ken’s direction.

Gorram wine and rum.

Things in the bar seemed to be feeling tenser the longer they sat. Tess’s eyes wandered back to Howard, wondering how to best approach him and ask him his last name without the Feds noticing. The captain made a sudden movement, and Tess saw him pound the last of his wine in her peripheral vision. She pushed her water glass away, and got up with Jon. They strolled out of the cantina apparently unnoticed by the Feds.

Ta Ma Duh, why can’t things just go right once? That guy meeting Norm was no coincidence. Then bing bang boom in drops the Feds,” Jon started up as soon as they were out of earshot of the little bar. His arms started moving animatedly as he got more fired up about what had happened.

“We need to get that cargo and burn before something else happens. There’s something hinky going on, that bird Colonal and his “chicken outfit are in the middle of it." Tess sniggered at the thought as they angled towards Destiny.

He went on, and his face showed determination, "If Norm gets that cargo to us we’re taking it, one way or another we’ll make some credits on it or have one hell of a party.“

“Don’t worry Capt’n,” Tess said, her eyes taking in the beauty of their ship as they approached, “if we can get that fancy jiu on her, Yuan Fen will blast out of here before those marshals have time to wonder where they left their ship parked. Or anyone else for that matter.”

Footsteps pounded from behind them, and Tess spun her head to look. The Feds that they had just left were sprinting toward the ASREV. Speak of the devil.

"But Captain! Come on! A 4-17! I thought we didn`t have to chase these anymore."

"Stop complaining Hudson. They must have good reason to call us. They had better or I`ll be very pissed."

They scrambled into their ship, and flipped the hatch shut. It took almost no time at all for the ASREV to be airborne. Damned government efficiency.

“Whew look at that, they’re running around like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off,” Jon mused, “Well for all I care they can head back to their Old Kentucky Home.”

Tess watched the pressure waves circling the engines as they climbed higher in the atmo, “Agreed.”

“4-17?” Ken muttered, but she didn’t catch the rest of what he said. Jon’s pocket began beeping at him.

“That’s Jason, let get a wiggle on and see what’s up.” Jon stepped up his stride, and Tess easily followed.

That evening’s meal consisted of protein paste mixed with a little bit of herbs from their garden bunk. Jason was getting better at mixing the spices together, the first trial and error meals had been more spice then paste, and that evening hadn’t been a bad attempt at all. Ken’s comment received a somewhat friendly punch from Tess. After tending the garden bunk, the pilot made her way to the bridge and began the preflight checks.

Destiny’s engines were nicely warmed up by the time Sellers got there at midnight. Jon’s comment about taking the wine no matter what hadn’t gone unnoticed by her, so she wanted to make sure that they could jump this rock at the drop of a barrel. She leaned back in the squeaky, well loved helm chair and waited for the word.

Ken’s voice crackled over the intercom, ““All secure here… ready to break atmo whenever you're ready Captain.” Tess’s hands began moving quickly as she rubbed the undersides of the chair, brushed the comm. console with her left hand, and touched a tooth that was secured around her neck with a leather cord. Her hands came up and snapped the goggles on her head down around her eyes. Now that her personal preflight check was made, all she waited on was the go ahead from Jon.
