Gah! I feel like I want to ask or say something but I've spent the last five days trying to think of something! I'm not pulling anything up, so feel free to move on unless I have a lightbulb.

Although here's a question, is Flirty still playing?

There is a section under The Creativity Forum called Personal Creations.

That's where short stories, poems, etc. go. There are mini descriptions under titles in the forums as kind of general 'sign posts'. Can't wait to read it! Is that one of those 'I am my own worse critic' type of things? *winks*

Does Gryphonwood Press have their own website, or is that an online magazine?

Subject: Brotherly Bonding with Burglary

Okay, so I typed this up as I was reading. I can take this apart a bit more if that’s what you’re looking for, but defiantly a good start.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nice job setting the scene in the first paragraph. I might have like to hear a little bit more about the town itself, but the focus of the tavern was really well done.
Character introduction is good, but from the description of the clothes (especially Vyrn’s) I wouldn’t think that they were trying to “blend in” with the commoners. Nice hook.
Iron fence shot with silver? I’m not sure what you mean by that.
Love the description of the adrenaline rush, coupled with the addiction to it.
Hehe… brotherly banter.
Awww, I wanted more! I know it’s your first draft, so I won’t go into any grammar commentary. Nicely done, it certainly drew me into the story. And yes, I am certainly interested to see what the brothers will do, and any back story that might ensue.
Subject: Katie ~~ Rap and Celine Dion? The Boom Box dies
The second set of shells dropped to the floor and Katie immediately prepared for the third volley. A resounding clank of a tire iron dropping to asphalt echoed around the empty street as the fire began to die as quickly as it had come. Katie stepped out of the Ice Cream truck with her shotgun nestled on her shoulder. The small amount of carnage around the truck was beginning to smell of burnt flesh. Canned carnival music continued to play, and was combining with the old pop song that blared out of the boom box still clutched in a dead man’s hands. The effect was like taking two cats, lighting them on fire, and throwing them in a small room full of angry weasels. She walked over to the boom box and slammed the heel of her boot into the top of it. Bits of plastic flew out the ends as it let out a statisfying crunch.
“Good god, I hate that song. Any casualties?” Her green eyes searched around at the assembled group milling about, finally landing on Virago, Percy and the man who had been the focus of the thugs’ initial assault. He was sitting up, at least, which meant that they could get information out of him. She squatted down in front of him, taking in his puffy face and blood that still dribbled down his chin. With her free hand she fingered the plastic badge that sat beside the guy.
Special Agent Roberto Stanislav
Fantastico Security Forces
“This guys doesn’t look so good,” Percy stated blandly, “maybe we should put him in the cooler. Ice might take some of that swelling down, you think?”
“It would,” Katie agreed. Her expression softened as she reached out and gently touched Roberto’s face where his eye had swollen shut, “especially for this. If you have plastic bags, Percy, that would help, but I guess we could slap a fudgesicle on it in a pinch.”
Danyael swaggered over, and appeared to be stuffing something into his pockets. Katie narrowed her eyes as he looked down at the battered man.
"He does look pretty beat up. I don't suppose anyone happens to know first aid hmm? And as much as I hate to say it, Percy is right. We should get him in the truck. If nothing else, he'll be a bit safer should anyone else decide to come by. And given the amount of noise we just made, I wouldn't think it would be too long before someone else, perhaps someone armed with more than a tire iron, comes to see what happened. I don't think they would look to kindly on our prompt defeat of these gang guys in this neighborhood."
“Holy sh**, Danyael, that was quite the statement. I’m surprised you didn’t pass out. I didn’t realize your smooth nature involved being a windbag.” She stood up at these words and extended her hand towards the agent. Her face suddenly turned hard and her voice took up an assertive quality,
“How ‘bout it, soldier? Can you stand?”
Subject: DM ~~ the evening progresses
SMACK!
Maria gave Sarah a reproachful look, watching the girl hop away from a patron, before going back to her duties. At least she brings in good money. She began making preparations for the evening to come. It was the night for that lay about Hugh to come in; even so, she needed to get a head in order to stay on top of things.
She dodged a pinch from one of the regulars and began making her own rounds of the room, starting with the table that Sarah had previously been occupying. Maria set a hand on the surface in front of the dark haired man with the moustache.
“Get you anything, hon? How’s that soup treating you?”
As the evening wore on, more farmers began to trickle in from outside. It was obvious from their dripping clothes that the rain had gotten worse. Mud tracks began to crisscross across the Lute’s wooden floors. Many ordered whiskey ‘for medicinal purposes’ to shake off the bitter chill. A few eyes take in the newcomers' faces, but none stay for too long in order to avoid attention. All except one.
A withered old elf sits in a corner booth. His eyes are slightly bulged, and their gray irises have a certain light behind them. It’s hard to tell whether its brilliance or madness. His receding hair is shock white, and he wears rather plain linen robes. On the table sits a delicately made silver goblet, along with an untouched bowl of stew. His gaze is focused on the dark skinned man wearing the black silk, and he makes no attempt to hide the fact that he is staring.
After returning the wink to the man with rucksack, Tom decided to pick up the pace of his music. He began singing a rather lewd song called “The Cock in the Well”. Though have some rather strong innuendos about a rooster, the tune turns out to be about two young lovers being found by the girl’s father, and the boy, who is still naked, jumping down a well to escape her father’s wrath. As the bard continues to get louder with each passing verse, some of the patrons begin singing out the chorus.
The song finished and there was a small uproar from the crowd, with several whistles and thumping of the tables. Tom leaned back with a grin on his face.
“Anyone fancy singing for a spell? I’ve got a harp here that’s itchin’ to be played, an’ sometimes she and I don’t get along too well if I start opening my mouth.”
A small dark haired gnome trudged in from the outside downpour. She had something tightly wrapped in her cloak and pressed against her body.
Henry looked up from his book and muttered, “Evening, Lorelei.”
“Evening Henry. Am I still even in your books?”
“And then some, dear. Meal upstairs again?”
She gave him a warm smile, “Yes, thank you.”
After a quick stop at the bar, Lorelei was laden down with a tray that included a steaming teapot, mug, cream, and a small jar of honey. The teapot shuddered and threatened to tip over as she made her way up the stairs. The hallway was not well lit, and little puffs of dust issued from the carpet. The gnome backed her way into the library, and carefully set down her tray. From within her cloak she produced a large leather bound book covered in symbols gilded in gold. With a small word, her hand lit on fire. The flames caressed the long fingers that extended out of her palm, and she used these to light not only the oil lamps in the room, but also the fireplace in the corner. Once she was satisfied with the amount of lighting, she sat down at her table and proceeded to a marked page in the book.
Subject: Nadira ~~ More mud then ink
Nadira did not feel the need to sign Siarl’s name on the paper. He was free to choose to stay or go, she would put no restriction on his life. In fact, the act of signing a contract was disturbing to her. She was not of this village, these were not her people. How dare they make demands on her life when she had freely chosen to hunt with these strangers and restore the balance?
The drums continued beating out a rhythmic tune as she sat in a circle with her shakri’s elders and warriors. A few of the other women danced around the central fire, kicking their heels up in time and holding hands with one another. The smell of fish lingered in the air, mixed with the sweet aroma of burning driftwood. The small group huddled together showed a mixture of emotions, from indifference to outright aggression.
“Remember, Nadira, these are strangers to our ways,” Ewunia said softly, a frown creasing her heavily lined face, “They are hostile towards nature. They will never fully understand the dance of life.”
“Hostile towards nature?” said Melcher, his voice rising, “They annihilate nature! By coming to our lands they will spread their plague, inflicting death on all things in their path!”
The sun had crept further into the sky and cast a warm glow on now thickening crowd around the conference hut. The Chindari cast her dark eyes again towards the signup sheet. She stuck her left thumb in her mouth, taking care to soak the pad with a generous amount of saliva. As she bent down to the earthen floor, whispers of confusion started drifting up from the multitude of people still standing in the sun. She mixed a small patch of mud and scooped up as much as she could with that one finger. Nadira turned back to the sheet and left a large smear under the last name written.
Nadira’s face was solemn as she addressed the council, “This is for Awananen, so that she may be restored and bring peace back to your people.”
As she walked back into the middle of the square where the warriors were gathering, she couldn’t help but notice the drastic change in appearance of those who were waiting. Her own attire had not changed from the day before, the only difference being that her pack was a little heavier this morning, for it was laden with additional supplies.
It is difficult for me to imagine not being prepared for danger at all times,” she thought to Siarl, “Especially since they apparently have a major crisis happening here.”
She looked around and again had that need to get out in the open air. She couldn’t understand how people could live jammed together like this. There was nowhere to move, no place to run, hardly any room to stand.
“Dwellers,” she added disdainfully.
Subject: Raina -- No no no, don't touch that.
After tearing her eyes away from the beautiful vista beyond, Raina spent the rest of her morning in quiet contemplation while roaming the house. She had lingered in the trophy room, her fingers itching to touch the beautiful objects encased in glass. Poor manners if you smudge the glass, Raina. Even more so if these were to be mysteriously removed.
At noon she and the rest of the group were summoned back to the terrace. Raina neglected to change out of her previous attire, having grown slight fond of the swishing noise her skirts made. It had been nice not to worry about her position within a building, nor of who might see her since there were so few in the manor. She took her place in the same chair that she had breakfasted in a few hours ago.
Quarlin was the first to voice his opinion. He understood the dangers that Vorlance was presenting, but it was knowledge above all else that had finalized his decision. Interesting. The half orc, much like herself, had spoken of the challenge of such a task and having ‘nothing better to do’.
Raina stared at the man who had last spoke, who seemed oblivious to the fact that Vorlance had already covered his question at breakfast. The conviction of an unknown force was etched across his face. She wished she knew where he had come from, or perhaps what had given him such fervor and mistrust.
Don’t we all.
She pursed her lips before speaking, “ I thought we had already spoke on this. No matter how many assurances either us or Master Vorlance provides, t hat alone will not grant us the trust that any of us are looking for. I wish not to believe you, Master Vorlance, because the prospect of the world as we know it being destroyed is beyond horrifying. But it is because of this possibility that I am willing to assist you in stopping it. Plus,” she attempted to put a little light heartedness into her tone, although it came out sounding a bit sarcastic, “I’m sure it will take me to new and exciting places.”
She leaned a little closer to Vorlance before continuing in a lower tone, “But please know, if you hood wink us into doing some diabolical work for you, rest assured balance will be restored, one way or another.”
Subject: Katie -- rocking the truck
She neatly wrapped her clean stick in the empty wrapper as the truck lumbered into Westside. A frown spread across her face as they passed under the painted sign. By her calculations, they should be meeting that field agent about now. Instead a group of miscreants were huddled together around a prone figure.
Katie reached underneath her coat and unhooked her shot gun from her back as the Ice Cream truck rolled to a stop next to the group of thugs. No harm in being prepared. She set it in her lap, checked that it was loaded, and clicked the safety off. The thugs didn’t seem to notice them right away. They were too focused on beating the person on the ground, bringing him closer to death. A string of racial slurs and curses emitted from the little knot of people. Turkey in the Straw continued to crank out its tinny notes, and faces began to turn towards Percy’s vehicle.
”Looks like someun's brought us some frozen treats, boyz” the one in front said as he brought out a switchblade. ”Must not be from 'round these parts.” A few snickered, and weapons began to appear in their hands.
“A couple of tire irons, a switch blade, a molotov cocktail,” she ticked off mentally,“and their swinging cods. Okay then.”
”Why don't we show'em a lil' Westside hospitality, cuz?”, the one holding the molotov called out to the truck.
Her green eyes followed the trajectory of the cocktail. Thankfully it missed the truck. It soared through the air and bounced into the row of cars, catching the gasoline ablaze. Lady Luck has smiled once again. The warm glow of the fire surrounding the thugs lit the features of her face, which showed a mischievous look.
Katie smirked as she rolled down her window and leveled her shotgun at the nearest thug.
"Amateurs." she murmured before pulling the trigger. The Ice Cream truck rocked softly on its suspension from the concussion.
Katie ejected her empty shells. They clinked together as they were dropped onto the floor.
“FOR NARNIA!” Virago belted out, causing Katie to look up from reloading her gun. The man seemed to be flying through the air towards the middle of the group. She snapped the gun shut, and raised it again.
