Thugs at 10' and fire at 20'? Would it be safe to say that a shot from the sawed off double barrell would knock a guy back into the fire?

I'd use an awesome point to hit a guy and have him knock two more in with him.

Nice Grugg.

I'm with Admiral -- any clue about move/act would be nice, but it isn't nessecary. I'm formulating something now, but it might not be up until this evening or so.

PS-- I love the new title for this thread.

I'm glad you're okay! How's your car?

That's really awful about your laptop. I don't know about you, but I keep alot of my life on my laptop.

I thought Stirrings would be an awesome campaign, and if you decide that you want to write it up again I'd be more than happy to play. But of course, only if you'd like to, and when you get around to it. I know it can be kind hard to recreate something you've already written. I've scrapped more ideas that way because MS Word has decided to take a dive on me and erase 1/2 - 3/4 of my work.

Keep us updated on your health! Hope everything else is going okay in your life!

Subject: Raina -- well.... logically...

Quarlin’s input was fairly intriguing. She found history very interesting, but could never sit still long enough to learn much. She watched him without comment as he left the terrace.

The continuous din of eating stopped suddenly as the half orc swallowed and began to speak, "Did anyone else happen to notice that he also made it clear we have no idea the intentions of this foe that no one knows?" Cynicism dripped from his voice as he quoted Vorlance, "There is equal possibility that it will be a force for good and law as for destruction and chaos."

For a moment, Raina thought he was going to go back to his meal, but after taking a bit of meat he shook his head and continued on, "So which are we to be? Chaos or Law, Good or Evil? I dunno about the rest of ya, but I prefer to stay out of such affairs of morality... morals tend to slow ya down in my world.
"But, I am curious as to what potential he sees in this mismatched group and what power he thinks he knows we'll gain through this. I think I'll stick with it, even if only just to make some coin before going back to my normal work."

Raina looked up at the half orc. Profound, but it lacked a few elements.

“Well, by your logic, if you do not wish to meddle in the affairs of morality, wouldn’t it make sense to prevent such an unstable element from being released into the world? Doing so doesn’t require us to be good, evil, lawful or chaotic. If unleashed, it would strain morality at every turn, forcing its unpredictable ethics upon us all,” she frowned, “Or at least that’s what I understood from the conversation.
Regardless, I am with you. It happens to fit into my plans for the moment, and it’ll feel good to be doing something productive. I hope that Quarlin can shed a bit more light on this after he finishes in the library.”

She was in no hurry to leave the fresh air. Raina stood up and walked over to the railing to enjoy the view. She attempted to imagine an invisible foe thowing a fit and destroying the beauty that stretched out from the mansion. Somehow, the image wouldn’t form fully, but hazy screams echoed through her mind.

Subject: Kathryn -- Ding Ding! Come get your icecream!

Creepy. Really creepy.

She might have found his humor amusing, but there was something about his eyes. That or it could be the blood soaked Good Humor uniform, which threatened to corrupt some of her favorite childhood memories. At least he had a vehicle, though it was also reminiscent of demonic clown disguised under soft pastels. His off-kilter demeanor reminded her of someone she met once at a casino. Katie made sure she never went back to that one again.

Craps tonight. The table was packed, and she found herself standing next to a brick of a man with his shirt sleeves rolled up. The smell of whiskey rolled off in waves when he spoke. At the moment, he was engaging her in the typical likes verses dislikes conversation with Katie. She didn’t mind, after all, he had bought her a drink.

His spade like hand set a stack of chips on the table before continuing the converstation,“Me, I like tattoos. Got a whole collection of ‘em.”

“Oh yeah?” She made a quick inspection of the thick arm that was distributing the chips. It was free of ink. “Don’t like them on your arms? I thought that was the ideal place for tattoos to be.”

He looked at her incredulously, “Not on my body, girl! Are you crazy?? Naw, needles scare the crap out of me. I got a whole collection back at my house in Westside. Treated the skin real nice so they’ll last longer.”

Katie winced as ‘Pop Goes the Weasel’ echoed down the bay. Nice and quiet too. Taking careful aim, she kicked her empty duffle bag towards Mr. Suave and walked over to the ice cream truck.

After climbing through the passenger door, she called out the group still standing in the bay. “Beats walking. I call shotgun.”

Looking back at the man sitting in the drivers seat, her stomach turned over. No time for that, Kate. Suck it up, you’ve met worse I’m sure.

“Nice truck you got here,” she said casually as she pulled out her wallet. A five appeared in her hand and she passed them to The Ice Cream Man. “I’m Katie. You don’t have to get out of your seat, I’ll help myself to one. Let me know if that, uh, doesn’t cover it.”

The back was well laid out for such a small space. She never really appreciated how much stuff someone could get into the back of a truck and still work somewhat comfortably. Katie opened the first cooler and looked inside. On the right was a stack of Dreamsicles, Push Pops, and ice cream sandwiches. On the left was a neat stack of meticulously wrapped body parts. Katie suppressed a full body shudder after seeing some frozen blood on the outside of a cling wrapped hand. Gross. Grabbing a Dreamsicle, she sat back down in the front passenger seat. Regret for calling shotgun was starting to creep into her emotions, but she’d rather watch him then have him sneak up on her unawares. Katie unwrapped her frozen treat and began eating it.

“Let’s get a move on,” she called out the window, “we don’t have all day to wait for your tònha.”

Subject: Katie -- Fist First

It had been a good night. There was a large crowd at the Riverside Casino, and the cash and liquor were flowing. Katie had been there for several hours, and she could feel the ever present need to switch games before her luck ran out. The Texas hold ‘em game had a full table, and she was up by $400. Katie stood up and began collecting her chips.

A drunken gambler grabbed her wrist before she could pick up the last of them, “What’s the matter, babe? Afraid of losing a little money?”

Katie flipped her hair back behind her shoulders, “Let go of my wrist.”

“Come on. Give me a chance to win a little bit of that back,” he began to pull her back down to her chair, staring openly at the cleavage now in front of his face, “if you do, you might get a little bit more than money from me.”

A fist still clutching half a dozen chips pulled back. WHAM. Katie allowed most of her weight to connect with the well landed hit on the man’s jaw. The plastic chips cut little lines into her palm, and blood began to seep between her fingers.

“Codladh samh, a**wipe,” she murmured as the man’s head hit the table. Katie flipped a twenty dollar chip to the dealer before making her way towards the chip exchange. So much for another game tonight. She glanced around surreptitiously for security before setting her chips onto the counter. As the attractive woman made her change, Katie slipped one of the chips covered in her blood into her pocket for luck.

The night was clear and full of life. The row of bars, clubs, and casinos ebbed with vitality. Hawkers roamed around the streets selling stolen watches, cheap sunglasses and drugs. Prostitutes also lined the streets displaying their wares and selling them in the alleyway. For the space of a heartbeat, Katie stood on the threshold of the chance of fate and the sin of the city. From either side of her, two heavy hands dropped onto each of her shoulders.

“Kathryn McDonnell?”

Sh**,
she thought, House Thugs.

“Yes,”
she responded cynically, “And?”

A small pause, then, “And you need to come with us.”

Fully expecting to be frog marched back into the casino, Katie was surprised when they shoved her into the back of a car. She suppressed a snicker as one of the thugs pulled a small handgun and ‘casually’ held it on his knees. The other thug began into what seemed to be a prepared speech about his employer, money, and hiring her into their services.

God, the same song and dance. Only now its Fantastico instead of Boston.

She drummed her fingers on her leg as she waited for his droning to be done. Once he finally finished, she looked out the window of the car, “Well, at least your pay is acceptable. Where are you taking me?”

“Headquarters.”

She was ushered into a small room with a large mirror dominating one wall. A beefy man strode in behind her with an empty duffle bag. He has several fresh cuts and a rather hideous look on his face.

“Strip,” he said as he threw the duffle bag at her feet.

“What? No music?”

He gave her a withering look before raising his voice, “Strip.”

Throwing her coat to the duffle bag, Katie began removing her guns and everything out of her pockets, and placed them carefully into the bag. Soon she had nothing left on her but her gray slacks, black button up shirt unbuttoned to her bra line, and her black boots. The man zipped up the bag, threw it unceremoniously out the door and began to roughly pat her down.

“Careful, ugly, or I’ll give you a few more bruises to go along with your lovely scratches.”

“Give me more bruises?”
he shouted at her angrily. Spit began to fly out his mouth as he raged on, “It’s because of your damned house that I’ve got these cuts! We lost five men to you and your goddamned booby trapped house!”

“What, did you kick in the door?”
Her brogue became thicker with every word, “What kind of moron are you? Are you trying to tell me that I don’t have the right to protect myself from the looters and crazed rapists that roam our streets?”

She whistled softly under her breath, “That probably blew off the whole front side, and let me guess. You’re dumba** isn’t going to pay for the damage that you caused to my home, are you?”

He swore before slamming the door shut behind him and locking it.

“Òinseach!” Katie yelled back.

After what seemed like hours she was being led into a rather austere looking office. Katie listened stoically to Mr. Fantasti V’s vague explanation as to why there were there. She didn’t really hear much of it, she too distracted by thinking how much better this office would look if it were on fire. After the short ‘introduction’, they were all taken down through the vast building to the loading dock.

She eyed the closest soldier with his rifle pointed at her. “Is that really necessary?” To show that it was, he lifted it more snuggly against his shoulder and directed barrel toward her face.

Raising and eyebrow, she directed her next remark at the end of rifle,“Let me rephrase that. Point that somewhere else, boyo, before you poke someone’s eye out.” He spat at her comment before walking out with the rest of the men.

Once they were alone with their duffle bags, Katie began rooting through them to find her things. She tossed each one aside until she found her own. As she strapped her shotgun onto her back, the younger man with messy brown hair began to ramble.

"You know... This is actually similar to one of my movies. James Bond and Conan the Barbarian lead an assault team against the clown guy from Twisted Metal and meet Ginger from Gilligan's Island along the way.... It was a B movie. Real low budget stuff. I did get to throw an axe at an Ice cream truck though so it wasn't a total wash. Hey guys, wanna know how I got this street light?"

“Yeah, I think I saw that movie once. I think it could have used a fall guy who got shot in the beginning.” She drove her Desert Eagles home before shrugging into her coat, “Virgo, did you say your name was? Let me guess, you’re a grounded salt-of-the-earth type of guy, right?”

The tall well dressed man cut off the conversation, "Well, isn't that nice. I think I'll pass on the street light thing for now. I'm sure you'll understand."

He turned his attention back toward group. "Now if someone wouldn't mind telling me what just happened back there, I'd be more than..." his eyes drifted towards Katie. She could see him taking in her curves as he continued, "Well, it seems at least some of the company is of interest."

He stepped closer to her, “So, are you a true red head?” His voice softly spoke of lust as he openly stared at her crotch, "I must say, I have never seen such a beauty. I can only hope that I get to see more of you in the near future."

Her eyes narrowed. “If you don’t step back, in the near future you’ll get to see a lot more of the back of my hand.”

Subject: The Tavern and NPCs

The Bleeding Lute

The Bleeding Lute is a square three story wooden building with a hanging wooden sign outside the front double doors. The sign depicts a lute that has been cracked open and red rose petals fall out of the middle. Stables are located around the backside of the Inn.

First Floor:

A check-in desk sits to the right immediately after you walk in. A wiry older gentleman with a floppy red hat sits behind it with his feet up on the counter reading. A sign that sits next to him reads “Rooms Available”. To the left stands a long oak bar with a serving window directly behind it that shows a glimpse of the kitchen. A curvy black haired woman stands behind it tending bar. At the back center is a stage; to the right and half way up the building is a stone fireplace. The room has 11 rounds tables and one long community table. A fair young woman and a dark haired young man float around the room tending to the patrons. A fairly tall, armed, redheaded male half elf watches the room.

There are stairs to the second floor just past the front desk. A door on the left past the bar proves to be the entrance to the bath house. Fresh towels and hot water are available upon request, along with unscented or lavender scented soap.

Second Floor:

A small library is located on this floor where the fireplace runs up the length of the building. This room is comfortably furnished with a few plush arm chairs, and love seat, and a thick blue rug. Three small tables are positioned around the room; one contains a half finished chess game. Two walls are taken up with book shelves; the others have maps hanging on them. A small cupboard reveals a few more board games.

Rooms:

Single and double rooms are available, in addition to sleeping on a pallet in the common room. There is also one suite available on the third floor. Single and Double rooms all have small wardrobes, bed stands, and chamber pots. The suite comes complete with copper bath tub, fresh flower arrangements, canopy bed, and full length mirror.

What’s always on tap:

  • Mahogany (House Beer - Stout)

  • Ale

  • Grog

  • Rum

  • Whiskey

  • Scotch

  • Brandy

  • Mead

  • Wine

  • Mulled Wine

  • Cider

  • Tea

  • Main NPCs

Henry – The owner. Tall, wiry, mouse brown hair with an ever present red floppy hat. Henry is a straight forward kind of guy, who is very proud of his business. “This is my establishment, I will have no fighting, no stealing, and no destruction of property!” although what happens in game doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll adhere to his rules Though gruff on the surface, he really is a pleasant and accommodating man.

Maria – The Bartender. A Curvy, dark haired woman with a really easy demeanor to go along with her bartending sass. She has a tendency to call everyone “Hon”.

Cookie – The Cook. Tall and muscular with a 5 o’clock shadow and short brown hair, Cookie is built like a wall. He has tattoos up his arms, and rarely speaks. On the inside, he’s gooey, showing a particular soft spot for kids.

Sarah – Barmaid . She is a fair haired, light skinned wisp of a woman who is extremely efficient at her job, but very nervous.

Hugh – Wait staff. Well, part time wait staff. This mildly handsome young man with an expanding girth enjoys drinking and dancing with the patrons. He is often seen in ratty shirts with expensive looking vests.

Murph – Security. Murph is a heavily armed, lean redheaded half elf, who speaks to no one. Need I say more?

    The Bar Flies
    Played by Celeste
These two men can been seen occupying the same two seats at the end of the bar at nearly any time during the day.

Jedidiah Statler, rail thin and tall, with salt and pepper (more salt than pepper) short hair, and a constant five 'o clock shadow. He wears an old blue button up shirt with delicate pinstripes, and sturdy dark pants.
Conrad Waldorf is shorter and stouter, with white hair that rings his head due to the large amount missing from the top, and handsome white mustache. Waldorf dons earth toned garb that wouldn’t be out of place at a learning institution.

Both of these men can be seen harassing the bartender, wait staff, and anyone who comes within talking distance. Often they can be heard guffawing at each other’s quick wit and sharp tongues, and both are filled with the latest gossip, political affairs, and terrible puns.

Rules:
Have fun.
No time restraints, no expectations.
If you want to have a little heavier role play action with one of the main NPCs (e.g. Maria the bartender, Henry the owner), either drop me a line here or PM me. Otherwise, if you feel comfortable with it, go ahead and role play them.
The NPC’s that I set up for ‘daily’ interactions are free for you to write their interactions as you see fit, but I’d be more than happy to role play them if you wish! I may also pop in and give the reactions depending on what’s going on.

That’s it. I might update that as needed, and keep in mind this is a medieval-esque type setting.

Subject: Nadira -- well Little Brother...

Nadira winced at hearing the same words that were on the poster spoke aloud by the half-elf, “The Chindari Plains have always been a thorn in our side”. A wave of indignation rippled down Siarl’s back at these words. She put a comforting hand behind his ears as Andras finished speaking and returned to his forms. The two friends watched the half elf a while longer as he gracefully spun his scimitars.

After he finished his routine, Adras spoke to the small crowd that had gathered around him. He again stated that he was committing to the mission at hand, and asked that someone else step up and lead the group. His voice had the tiniest bit of a plea behind it, but it could have easily been the shortness of breath from his exercises. As the crowd began to disperse, Siarl stood up.

Well Nadira? Are we going to join him? The ever present concern was dancing in the flash dog’s eyes at these words. Nadira sighed. She gave him a long, searching look before responding to him.

Well, Little Brother, if there is unbalance here, it won’t take long before it spreads to our homelands. Long has it been my wish to protect our people, but it is for the elders to decide. A mischievous smile spread across her face as she continued, And as always, you are free to stay behind with our people if you do not wish to tempt danger.

Nadira made her way back to the area outside Falhill where her shakri was camped. She doubted that there would be much of a hunt tonight, especially with the prospect of speaking to the elders. Instead she decided on spending time with those that she loved. For the sun and the moon could only tell when the next time that might be. The sounds of music drifted through the air shortly followed by the sight of wagons looming ahead.

The night passed eventfully for the Chindari. She was given leave to discover the reason behind Falhill’s recent fate, and help restore the balance to this area. As the sun’s morning rays peeked across the village’s rooftops, Nadira strode towards the conference hut to sign her fate.

It'll be a chance to role play without any time constraints or pesky adventures to get in the way *winks*. It'll be a spot to come and go as you please, interact with NPCs or other players in the room as you will, improve your rping skills, and just have fun.

I'll have more details in this thread coming later this week.
