Subject: In response!

Hey Ody~

Thought I would answer your questions in order:

  • Not sure where you can see them free aside from Hulu. If you have Netflix, they have the series available on instant streaming.
  • The pilot isn’t required on the bridge at all times. There is an auto pilot of sorts, but if you want to do anything other than fly in a straight line to your destination, then you need someone on the bridge.
  • If you look earlier in the Q&A thread, you’ll see that not only is the main book available from that …free to download site, but also a supplemental book called Six Shooters and Spaceships. It has a lot of sundries listed in it. But, I’ll just go ahead and list some food stuffs here for reference! [also, if you look around page 11 of the Q&A, I posted up a supply list for the ship… and we bantered around about it for a while, though I don’t think it has been posted up on the main character portion of the ship] I can give you the price list if you'd like, but I just know we have that list somewheres!

    From the main Serenity Book
Foodstuffs, Canned: While not as good as fresh
food, canned or otherwise pre-prepared food is still
a fair bit better than processed protein. Since such
food keeps indefinitely (or at least a whole lot longer
than the fresh stuff), food packs and canned fruit are
popular among settlers and ship crews. The given
price buys two or three boxes of different kinds of
food, allowing one person to eat decently for about
a week. Rationed, the food will go farther.

Foodstuffs, Fresh: This is what it’s all about:
fresh vegetables, fruit, and meat. Unfortunately, real
food is fairly expensive; folk can’t usually afford it
unless things are going real smooth for them. Most
often, fresh food is bought in small amounts or is
carefully rationed over a period of time, at least by
those who live in the black.

Foodstuffs, Luxury: This is the kind of fancypants
yummies you can’t even find most places on
the Rim. A pound of fresh strawberries, a chocolate
ice cream cake, caviar—such count as luxury goods
to folk who live on the Rim. The units in which the
goods are sold depends upon exactly what the food
is. The price can vary as well, but whatever it is, it
will almost always be quite expensive.

    Foodstuffs, Nutrient Bars: Nutrient bars—a
Newtech Alliance ration—are perhaps the most
compact form of food ever developed. Each bar is
about the size and shape of a gold ingot and each
is wrapped in foil. The actual bar is a brownish
compound, nearly tasteless, but at least it’s better
than protein paste. If sliced thinly, a single bar can
provide 30 days’ worth of nutrition for one person.
The person will still need water and additional
calories, but the vitamins, minerals, immune
supplements, and so on will allow them to subsist on
    an otherwise minimal diet.

Foodstuffs, Protein Paste: Tubes of colored
and (supposedly) flavorsome protein paste are the
standard diet for spacefarers in the ‘Verse. The
paste is sometimes molded into different forms and
cooked different ways. Sadly, it tastes about the same
no matter what you do to it. Healthy, if boring, the
paste stores a good long while.

Spices, Common: Whether it’s protein paste,
canned vegetables, or fresh meat, a sprig of
rosemary can make your day a little brighter.
Spices, Rare: Popular in the Core for those
who can afford high class dining, rare spices such as
saffron can be extremely expensive. A good cargo to
carry, and even better to have if you can afford it.

    From Six Shooters
Fresh Fruit: A rarity on the Rim, especially
    delicacies such as fresh strawberries.

Protein Chips: A common snack found
pretty much everywhere, protein chips are soybased,
    salty, and tasty.

Rotgut: Crude alcohol brewed in some such
distilling rig. It tastes something foul and is
just barely on the friendly side of toxic, but it’s
usually free. Imbibing more’n a cup of rotgut
requires an Easy Endurance (Willpower +
Vitality) roll or the drinker feels nauseous and
    suffers a fearsome hangover.

Snack Bar: A snack bar is a single serving
of either nutritious or delicious (rarely both)
foods such as chocolate, dried fruit, grains, or
even vegetable matter. One of the most popular
brands of snack bars is the Fruity Oaty Bar,
mostly due to their ever-present marketing
efforts that blanket nearly every planet in the
    ‘Verse.

We also have a garden bunk onboard (room 12 I believe), so we’re growing our own fresh veggies. I’ve got Tess slated to run it (being farmbred and all), so I’ll get a list of some easy to grow vegetables that we’ve got in our bunk.

  • Coffee. I’d say there’s coffee. This world has been developed from a mixture of Chinese and American culture, so I definitely know that there’s tea, and more then likely coffee. With our financial situation, I wouldn’t say that it’s the best coffee, but if we throw in a horseshoe, I’m sure it’ll make it taste better!

Don’t worry Ody, I’m a Trekkie too! It’s difficult not going there when I’m talking about how Tess pilots the ship. Really difficult.

Destiny Bridge, Day One of Journey, 10:45 pm ST

“You always did know how t’ make a girl feel special,” Tess replied.

His clean scent began permeating her brain and despite his crude words, goose bumps erupted up and down her arms. He was fightin’ dirty, and he knew it. Tess stepped up inches away from Ken, and put a hand on his bare chest.

“Temptin’ offer,” she said huskily, trailing her fingers down his sternum, “But unlike some people I know, I ain’t in the habit of sleep’n with anything that crosses my path.”

She side stepped him and made her way down towards the galley.

Subject: Tess ~ Business as usual

Destiny Bridge, Day One of Journey, 10:00 pm ST

“So Tess, what do you think our little gift from Priscilla?” Jason asked, his eyes shifted slightly towards his earpiece.

““Sheh sheh, Erikson and Greenleaf have a nice day.” Jason replied, clicking off the piece. With a final series of commands on her navigational board, Tess activated the main engines and Destiny rocketed out of Greenleaf’s orbit.

“Not sure what your gittin at, Jason,” Tess responded as she set the final flight path, “It isn’t like I’ve seen the whatever gorram thing the Doc got scared up, is it? Been a little busy with the Feds, truth be told.”

Destiny Bridge, Day One of Journey, 10:43 pm ST

Tess decided to stay on the bridge after Jason left despite feeling a bit hungry. There was something to say about staring out at the black. It gave a dizzying sense of solitude, and if Tess looked long enough, a frightening impression of larger forces at work in the ‘verse. After a while her stomach began to growl in earnest. She thought about the protein paste they were packing, and wondered if anything in the garden bunk was ready to be harvested.

She pushed her goggles onto her forehead and stood up to leave. Ken appeared in the doorway, blocking her progress. His gun belt was flung over one shoulder and he was toweling his hair dry.
“Well Hon,” he asked her from under his towel “How’s it looking? We still going to make it in plenty of time to make the drop?”

“As long as that purty little Fed of yours don’t stop us again, yeah,” she responded, putting an emphasis on the word ‘Fed’, “Why? You plannin’ on something going wrong? The way you’re carrying your gun ‘round Destiny makes me think you’re expect’n some bogey man to jump out of the shadows.”

Subject: Tess ~Purplebellied fools!

The door resonated the pounding of Colonel Sanders into the cargo bay. Jon slammed his hand into the doorway release, and the Alliance they had seen in the bar stepped onto Destiny. Tess breathed the ozone deep into her chest. She touched the long tooth around her neck, remembering someone once telling her she had too much ozone in her brain. She never could figure out if he meant that she flew too much, or that she was crazy. Or both.

The pilot decided to stay in the cargo bay rather than follow the ‘inspection crew’ around her ship. She fidgeted nervously, sticking her hands in her pockets and coming out with several odd objects. They would be on the bridge, she knew it. It took a lot of self control not to go up there, make sure they weren’t touching Destiny's instruments. Tess hadn’t gotten over her despise for the Alliance, and doubted she ever would. All that they had done, all the death and oppression just for a more civilized life. Was it civilized when they obliterated Shadow? Where was their higher state of mind then?

Tess stood next to the bulkhead brooding until Sanders and his crew reemerged. She watched them darkly as they parted, all sorts of old wounds opened up with their appearance aboard her flying home.
The Colonel turned to Jon,"Right! Sorry about that. I thank you for your cooperation and time. I hope we didn't delay you too much."

“Well Marshall we all have our job to do and we got lucky to find this shipment. “ Jon replied as he escorted them to the airlock. She looked at Ken whose hungry eyes were still on the female.

The doors clicked shut, and he shook his head, “Ok can we get out of here now?”

Jon pounded his fist against the bulkhead. He looked a little worn, hell, she couldn’t blame him. She wasn’t the only one that the Alliance left a bad taste in their mouth.

“That seemed too close,” Jon was saying as he turned away from the airlock, “let’s just take it easy and mosey out all calm like. Tess, go ahead and fire her up again but let’s just dance our lady away like no big deal. Jason, let’s try it again with the Goodbyes and Fair thee Well’s. They’ll be watching so let’s just be anything but Twitchy.”

“On it, Cap’n,” she said and went back to the lift. Her stomach was still twisted up in angry knots, and she tried not to have much show on her face. Jason followed in behind her and pulled the sliding doors shut. She stood in silence, and exited immediately after opening the doors to the bridge level. The bridge looked untouched, and she slide into the well worn pilot’s chair. Her hands caressed the panels and she tried to ascertain if anything had been moved. After a moment of consideration, she swiveled the chair around to look at Destiny’s gauge panel.

“Fuel cells are still warm,” Tess said to Jason as she began the power up sequence, “I’ll take us out slow and then we’ll boogey on at the edge of their short range sensors. She’ll be ready by the time you’ve made your call to those sah gwa tze fu.”

Subject: Saercyn Willow ~ Bard No Longer at Play, or, Bard on her arse

The Rusty Hook, Late Afternoon

Blood continued to stream out from Willow’s nose, and down her throat and face.

“Fugk,” she muttered, holding a sleeve to her nostrils. Doesn’t this ever stop?

Willow coughed more blood onto the floor as a stout figure stepped out and knocked a man over just beyond her reach. At first she thought it was one of the tavern toughs, but as she focused on his back, she recognized the frame of Askurt. He gripped his axes, the struggle to stop himself was evident in his posture.

“Athkurd?” she asked thickly.

“Willow! Can you stand? We need to get out of here!”

“I thing so,” the bard rocked to her knees to have a better chance of not falling over backwards. The brawl continued to ebb and flow; a table splintered in half under the weight of two men, a woman cried out, more tankards shattered. She attempted to stand, but her head was still spinning, probably from the quick loss of blood.

“Guns ahoy!” Someone shouted above the din. Jericho?

Askurt’s head snapped up and he boomed out, ‘Yo ho, the guns!’

“Athkurd, could you gib me ah hand ub?” she asked, raising her voice so he could hear her over the renewed shouts. Willow held her left arm out towards the dwarf, and mentally braced herself for the swift return to her feet.
