I should note, she was only going to push and shove her way to the front of the crowd. It was Pio's remark that set her off.

Llamoth returned with the news, "The Sebarter family has found an apparent flaw in the archives. The people are saying that they claim ownership of a large amount of cattle, and that if this is proven true, that this already rich family will be even better off than before."

Percifeer sighed. It was one thing after another with this town. It wasn't that she wanted to leave, so much as time was now actually a matter of importance. Percifeer was never one to take time lightly. Even during her studies at the tower, she was itching to travel again. Still, now time could mean the difference between life and death for her father, and the same for the orphanage. Now time was really vital.

Llamoth continued, "Do you think perhaps we should come back another time? The courts will be busy with this incident, and will likely shoo us out the door. I can't see any good coming of our visit at this juncture. Perhaps we should just carry on and return at another time?"

Percifeer wasn't shocked at her sister. Llamoth wasn't one for confrontations. It was why they got along so well during their time in the orphanage. That is to say, they complimented each other. What did surprise her was Pio. It shouldn't have, given his actions so far, but it did. She had felt an inner bond with him as he was playing a big role in sticking it to the council.

“Patience, m’lady,” he said, “Let’s try not to be noticed today.” were the words that left his mouth. When he said them she yanked her arm from his and glared at him.

He continued to speak, this time to Llamoth, “I think your right, sister. I do not think the officials at court will be available to address our questions today. We may have to wait a day before we examine the alleged scene of the crime.”

He looked like he would speak again, but she didn't let him. "Nonsense, this could take all week or longer to deal with." Of course, she said this while walking away from the group. She was circling the edge of the crowd, weighing and measuring as they had taught her in the tower. She learned long ago that using spells wasn't worth anything. Using them wisely though, that was power. Just as a swordsman carefully chooses his thrusts and parries, so she must carefully choose her spells during the day. After a few seconds she was (reasonably) satisfied with the angle, and she spoke a few words, a bit more loudly so the others could hear them. Of course, it was also her way of casting the spell.

"All we need is a RIDE." and with a snap of her fingers a horse appeared in front of her at the edge of the crowd. She slapped it hard on the rear and sent it bucking toward the doors of the council. Her separation from the group now became obvious. The horse charged through the crowd, knocking people out of the way, but seemed directed at the doors by going around the carriage at the front, completely avoiding a rather ugly collision. Percifeer followed behind it, quite confidently on foot, walking rather calmly through the crowd. Just as the horse was about to burst through the doors of it's own accord, she dispelled it.

((this part's up to you DM, if I can't dispel it, it is trained to obey my wishes, and I will 'whoa' it))

**assuming no guards stop me**
She walked right up to the council doors and opened them.

Spiff had spent a lot of time that morning mulling over what he would order for a drink. A girly drink would get him even less respect from Croaker, he was certain, but a more macho drink would look odd in the eyes of the club. He didn't visit the club all the time, but when he did, he was a big hit with the girls because he would show them interesting mixed drinks they hadn't tried. Truth be told, Spiff didn't really care what he was drinking today. He'd just as soon drink water if the group was appropriate. His only concern was to avoid the back-alley drinks that could get you toasted in one small glass. The regular stuff wouldn't bother many people in small doses, especially if he spent an hour or more at this club, which he already knew would happen.

By the time he reached the Red Lantern with Scribe, Guardian, and Preacher, he had made a clear decision, but the thought was unimportant until the waitress took his order. When the door opened, another important factor took his eye. His crew was missing. Well, Reverend was there, but the rest were nowhere to be found. From the looks of things, though, as Reverend didn't acknowledge his entrance, it was clear to Spiff that his lieutenant wanted to stay off the radar and would meet with him after, being his eyes and ears outside the table while the deal went down. He couldn't blame Reverend. There was a lot of fire coming down on the group, and he didn't want to be associated with it either. He chose to ignore his lieutenant as well until the meeting was over.

alf the group had taken seats against a wall, and even Croaker in his gawdy attempt at a power move had taken the chair from the head of the table and turned it so he could still sit with his back to the wall, and still be in charge. Spiff didn't care anymore. It was enough hassle keeping his own skin without blood on it. Just keep the kid from firing at your head again and all is well Spiff was frustrated with the whole situation. When the group had finished arriving, Spiff gave the waitress a wink and ordered his drink. He ordered a "Colorado Bulldog". It didn't sound girly, and anyone who knew what was in it wouldn't call it a girl's drink, but it tasted much like Chocolate Milk, or Mocha Coffee. It was a plan to please both groups. He ordered a proper meal, as it was becoming clear he would only have one today. He'd have to get used to it. The longer he stayed off the radar, the longer he'd be surviving with one meal a day, and one hotel a night. It'd be bothersome, but not unlivable.

**caught up**

When MDK arrived, Spiff recognized him. Corporate Assassin was the word that rung in his mind. He knew what it meant. But he thought it would be entertaining to let the crew get all uptight over the new arrival. He didn't know Lightning, but hey, that's how it went. Anyone off the radar worked for him. Spiff had been sitting in his chair patiently after his spat with Croaker, but he had kicked up his feet onto the table out of a sign of both Whatever! to Croaker and I'm just an idiot, no danger to those who might be watching the group. There was no logic to sitting with your back to the whole dadgum bar and trying to look dangerous in the process. To be honest, there wasn't a whole lot of logic of having your back to the wall either. Anyone with a decent gun just needed someone inside giving them your locale to blast through the wall behind you. You wouldn't even see it coming.

His chair teetered unsteadily on it's hind legs as Croaker once again spread his mane at the newcomer. Fortunately, Peacekeeper had information for them, as she came away from looking at her phone. It was good to have, and would come in handy. He waited patiently until everyone else was done to speak. Unfortunately, this took longer than expected. His drink had arrived, the waitress taking a sip before handing it to him an nodding at the flavor while the others were still talking. He had continued relaxing with his legs propped up until all was quiet...well, as much as a strip club gets quiet.

"Croaker's in charge, yes, but what I don't know only hurts you. So I'd advise everyone to keep me as informed as possible. The more I know, the better I can help." Spiff took a sip of his drink before continuing. He turned his attention directly to MDK. He wanted it blatantly obvious what he was doing to the newcomer. After all, it was blatantly obvious everyone else had their hands on their guns, and Spiff didn't need that. That's what Preacher had offered to do for the day. "So, Mr. Corporate Assassin. Does that mean you kill people for the Megacorps, or that you kill people in the Megacorps. Before you answer though, I should probably warn you that the former means we'll have to shoot you, while the latter means you'll be of great use." He was, of course, teasing, but he wanted to see what reaction he would get.

**backposting a bit, sorry for the delay**

Percifeer was happy to see that her brother was so busy he didn't have time for them. It was delightful that he could afford to feed them without concern for his own welfare. On the way out, she could help but grin as she saw Llamoth dipping into the frosting. Had they not been so close for so long, she wouldn't have seen it, but the time they had spent together had been full of 'jokes' of this nature. It was something they shared silently and wouldn't even need to mention for laughs later. In fact, Percifeer thought it so funny, that she wanted to join in. Still, she was quite aware that her sister was much better at such subtleties as she was. She simply smiled as they walked out of the bakery.

The sight of who her brother was speaking with nearly caused her to grimace. Fortunately, as Goddfrey waved at them, the councilor chose to grimace for her. The look nearly made her laugh, as her grin expanded. She reached in her bag as they made to leave and, upon pulling out a quill (entirely by accident of course) she lifted it too quickly and launched it behind her, dropping it pretty squarely at the feet of the two discussing the council's order. "Oops." she said, turning back and bending over. She reached down to pick up the quill, pulling her sleeve back (to keep it out of the way no doubt) and shook her arm, her bracelet dangling at the wrist. She picked up the quill in this fashion, giving both men full view of both the bracelet and her cleavage. It was a crude move, to be sure, but in her mind it was nothing more than quid-pro-quo. The council had been downright awful to her father. They deserved a bit of indecency in return. She then turned back to the group, biting on the tip of the quill and grinning. She rushed over to Pio and grabbed him by the arm, wrapping herself tightly about his arm as they headed off toward the courthouse. When they started to turn the corner, she kissed Pio on the cheek and said "Thanks" letting go of his arm to continue the journey toward the courthouse.

**

When they headed toward the courthouse, Pio spoke, "Isn't that the name of the place Goddfrey said Dory said she was going to?"

"Looks like it to me." Percifeer replied, though she knew it was unnecessary. Pio rarely forgot things.

"Think we should check it out now, or come later tonight, after we pay the courthouse and the guards' quarters a visit?"

"Time is a bit too short to be delaying ourselves with more greetings I think. Once we find out what we can from the courthouse, we should make our trip as efficient as we can on our way home. Perhaps then we'll have time to find Dory."

I have spent my off-time over the past couple months working on a javascript dice roller built into a webpage. It's alignment and size properties are adjusted in Firefox to a 1028x* screen or LARGER. It seems to look ok in a smaller screen, but it is built to avoid dealing with scrolling around to get things done, something that is an issue on a smaller screen. In any case, I worked very hard on it, and I hoe you all enjoy it. I am still planning to add features, but in its current state it is complete, and useable (even OFFLINE).

On an additional note, you'll notice a lack of a background. I'm having a lot of difficulty finding one that I have permission to use, that is not DARK, RED, or very MULTICOLORED. This is, at the same time, a plea to the artists at the inn to make me something D&D related that does NOT fit the above parameters. I'd like to keep the text black and the color light as it's better for the eyes.

So, without further ado, I bring you my DM's Dice Roller. It has fighter groups, auto-character stats, auto-save & damage to fighters, and of COURSE, Dice rolling. It is great for working with large numbers of bad-guys against pc characters. Enjoy. FEEDBACK IS APRECIATED.

Percifeer had been silent after the initial hug and "glomp" of hello at the bakery. It wasn't that she had nothing to say, but that she was too busy smiling as her companions showed the same eager feelings toward helping her father. There's no way it was one of the children at the orphanage. The thought had already been there, but this was the first time she had put it together in her mind. Certainty struck her in that moment.

As Goddfrey handed over food, he spoke again. "Do you guys need anything else? I mean, you came to me for help right?"

This time, she did choose to chime in. "I think what we really need is information. Councilor Velch might be swayed by proof in favor of our father. Do you know anything about the statue? Perhaps you know who might hold a grudge against our father? Any information is vital at this point. Heck, if you know where the Councilor stays when he's not at his courthouse, that information may help us to get access to him faster than waiting for audience."

Percifeer was glad to see everyone working together with the map idea she had. She happily passed the chalk around, as they marked the significant locations to dig further.

"So it looks like today's route should be counter-clockwise around the city. That is, unless you think the Heart of Darkness should be sooner, rather than later, so we avoid hitting the night-criminals. I think we may have a better chance of finding this guy if we go at night."

She took a sip of her water, as Pio chugged his ale and she was somewhat proud of her choice to place the extra ale in front of him.

"In any case, if we're done here, the order is " ((repeating the names in the order the group agrees on, clockwise, or counter-clockwise)) "Let's talk to Bollo." With that, she scrubbed the chalk off the table and got up.

When the group headed toward the bar, she grabbed Pio's arm as she was scrubbing the chalk off. She pulled his head down to her and whispered in his ear. "Thanks for letting me take the lead on that one." She released him and finished scrubbing, then followed the group to the bar.

"Look, friend, I think you've confused Netrunning fer pokin' around on the surface of the Internet. Quick explanation is one's a puddle, the other's a frackin' ocean o' Spring Break babes deep water, and a frackin' motherload o' sharks. I don't swim with the sharks no more...too much blood still in the water. All I done tonight is splash about in a few puddles--it ain't nothin' you couldn't have done had you spent a few minutes with a search engine. You want someone to throw the scent off for those big dogs that are on the hunt? Well, you're gonna hafta hire yourself a true netrunner--one that's been in the game a lot more recent than I. Puddle skippin' ain't gonna cut it for what you need done. Now, you interested in letting me pay your kindness back with twenty-four hours of watching your six, well, that I can do. Hell! I might be able to hook you up with a real netrunner if I dig hard enough"

Preacher was still talking about the net in ways that boggled Spiff. Spiff knew his way around 2 things when it came to computers. He knew how to use his phone, and he knew how to use the card catalogue at the library. "Now I'm gonna ask this as a guy who knows what you're worth, and a man who knows how much cash is in your pocket." Spiff took a deep breath and looked Preacher square in the eyes. "What's it gonna take to get you on board?"

When Spiff made his point by dropping his phone, his eyes didn't leave those of Preacher. He could see the subtle widening of eyelids, the sharp intake of air. He knew his point had hit home in a very real way. He certainly wasn't capable of doing with electronics what these 'techie' types were, but he knew they practically worshiped machines, and Preacher just proved that to Spiff on yet another occasion.

The nail in the coffin so-to-speak was Preacher's dead giveaway. He showed his cards quite obviously to Spiff by saying "Let me think on it a bit." He was in, and Jason knew it.

The next conversation, however, didn't go as well as Spiff had hoped. Scribe motioned towards the dingy cab interior and smiled a winning smile. “Nope. Not gonna reveal that secret just yet, Spiff. Besides, I’m groggy-tired, and I might screw up the story enough to send you in circles for hours. Be patient, gato and we’ll take care of that upload when we’ve a little sleep behind us.”

It caught Spiff off-guard. It was like playing poker with an amature, and then sitting down with a pro. He was unable to turn his senses onto that level in time, and simply took the cab ride quietly.

****

Spiff waited for Preacher to speak in the hotel room that evening. He knew it was coming, and he had only been mulling over his own words.

“All right, Gato,” Preacher said as Spiff took care of his Mark II. The solo had dropped his own bag on the scarred table and had his back turned to the fixer as he slowly removed his armored clothing. “Here’s the just of it straight as straight can be. I’m beat up—passable, but beat up none-the-less. Truth of the matter is that I won’t be nearly as effective even with the medical care you’ve been so kind as to pay for. There weren’t no fronts, no lies, bein’ told back at the hospital, despite what you think. I made a vow some time ago not to set foot in the Net again, and that’s why this cowboy plays with guns. Now, I’m not much good at neither in my current shape, but as much as I’d like nothin’ more than to drop down on that bed and hope to God that Biotechnica catches up to me before I wake up and my pain meds wear off, I’m in this as deep as you—deeper maybe, since I was with the original crew."

“I guess what I’m sayin’ is that you’ve got my skills, as they stand, though I still figure they ain’t much compared to what we’re facin’. If you’ve got cash-money, I’d suggest you let me try and hook you up with a netrunner you can trust, who is up to speed on the latest tech. I can jack in, but I don’t know how pretty it’d be, and I don’t have the—“ he paused for a moment and drew in a steadying breath. “—The crew with me that I was used t’ runnin’ with, so it’d be a whole different experience than what I’m used to. Still, I’ll do what’s necessary to stay alive, and pinching the nerve of a megacorp is just a bit of icing on that cake.”

Spiff dropped onto the bed for a moment, his hands behind his head, a smile washing over his face as he responded to Preacher. "I'm glad you're in. I need you more than you think. But now I'm going to tell you something I don't say out on the streets, and I definitely don't say in front of medias." He sat up and looked at Preacher. "Most of my operation is show. Those guns I had with me tonight were mercs, and I'm rather glad I didn't have to pay them. I don't want you for the net. Hell, I don't even really want you as a hired gun. I want you for info." Spiff paused, letting the words sink in. "I don't trust easily, but you've proven yourself worthy of trust. I do not, however, trust your judgement enough yet to be takin' gatos off the street at your suggestion."

"Furthermore, I think you misunderstand what I'm asking of you. Yes, there's a possibility that I'll need you to jack in, though I hope that's not the case. Mostly, I just don't have time to be coverin' my tracks, and even on the 'internet'--" Spiff spat the word out as if the taste disgusted him "--you're better than anyone I got. In other words, there's probably not a netrunner out there that could compete with the numbers the megacorp could hire. That task is impossible, even if they're better than you. However, you know where to go, and where not to go. You know what to buy, and how to buy it. You know how to avoid leaving a trail to begin with, and, on the VERY rare occasion that there's a hint of a trail out there, you're more than capable of covering that up. That's what I need you for Preacher. I want you working closely with the rest of us to keep us under the radar, whatever that means."

The man's answer was silence, which was good enough for Spiff as he finished his night-time ritual.

***

Spiff watched Scribe work his magic, with a few approving nods. The guy was good, there was no doubt, but Spiff was sure he was better. Still, five-hundred for that kind of work on such short notice wasn't something to ignore. Scribe had a read on this guy, and that said a lot more about Scribe's character than anything else he'd done so far.

When they started moving through the mallplex, Spiff started getting advice from Preacher, the first bit of which was "Am I gonna need a new phone now? A new number?" His mind was on that major net interfacing they had done the evening before, and he was concerned that that forum post would be traced back to him. Then, he asked about hitting ATMs, and using his credchip. He ultimately bought a new pair of jeans (preferably with non-obvious armor if possible) and restocked his bag with another dry-clean-in-a-can. Then, he hit an ATM and withdrew more cash (replenishing his 500 if Preacher feels ATMs are of little concern, or withdrawing a larger amount of there is a large concern. Preacher may have told him these purchases would leave a trail, but he had to make them, and a mallplex is hardly like buying a hotel-room. Everyone bought here, and the megacorp couldn't station guards here 24/7. ((let me know on the cash stats Brom))

The trip to the Red Lantern, like the one before it, was not quiet, as Spiff had requested that Scribe make small talk. He had started with growing up in Night City, some obvious common ground. He was hoping that the conversations may eventually expand from there. When they arrived at the Red Lantern, Spiff immediately asked about his contact, Kara. If she was working, he would definitely make sure he'd be able to speak to her after the meeting. He knew she got a lot of top-notch clients. He was hoping she had heard some good rumors lately.

He hadn't even sat down when Croaker arrived, and he was flat-out shocked to see him. As Spiff should have expected, but he didn't, Croaker jumped in before Spiff could say anything. “Ok Spiff lets get one thing straight, talking for myself Peacekeeper and Bulls Eye, we will listen to what is said here and if its on the up and up we will work with you, but not for you. We talk everything out and everyone gets a say, but in the field I am in charge, behind the scenes and dealing with the mechanics of gear, contacts and so on I leave that to you and your fondness for BS. Make no mistake Spiff, I don’t like you, I don’t trust you and the first time you order me, Peacekeeper, Bulls Eye or anyone else to do something that’s out of your area you can say goodbye. Do we have a deal?”

Spiff grinned, arms at his sides, and responded to Croaker with more than a simple yes or no. "I think you underestimate your importance. The answer's yes, but I need you to take a bigger role than that. All I'm here for, is to make sure you can do your job. I'll be happy to give suggestions, but I'm not an expert on how to strategize a war. That's what you all are here for. You're doing all the work, I'm just here to help you get what you need to do it. That doesn't mean I'm uncle Moneybags, but it does mean I won't leave you out in the cold if I can do anything to help. Gunning down Stallion's personal bodyguards for example..."

He wasn't shocked to see that Jack had gotten more people to join the cause, but he was surprised when they approached, as generally happens when running into someone you don't expect. “I’m MDK,” he announced, “I believe you are expecting me.”

((Is my crew there?))

When they arrived at the Grommel it was, well, about what was to be expected of a bar in the morning. Percifeer sat down at the table Pio selected and she took a quick assessment of the items in her pack, just to ensure that nothing else had been stolen.

Pio spoke, “How about I get us some drinks? What everyone want?”

Before she could answer though, Pio chuckled and walked over to the bar. When he came back and placed a watered down ale in front of her, she scowled, picked up the ale and placed it next to his.

"I'm not drinking this trash." She said to Pio, getting up and going over to the bar where she ordered a honey water.

((regardless of ability to purchase))

When she got back to the table, Pio was speaking to the rest of the group. “Maybe we should talk a bit about us first though… catch up a bit. How about it, Milan? What have you been up to over the last few years?”

Percifeer's first instinct was to jump in with the small talk, but her stomach curled into a ball inside her, and she waited to speak. When she did, Llamoth, seemingly as close as ever, spoke her feelings even before Percifeer knew them.

“Pio… This is not the time for social ambiguity.”

"Thank you, Llamoth," and Percifeer's stomach unknotted. "I think you're crazy to be wasting time when it is so valuable. Perhaps we should start here. We did come here for a reason, didn't we?"

Then, it seems, Miran was on the same wavelength. "I've been in and around the city mostly, though our sister is right, we should be addressing as many possible angles to this dillemma as quickly as we can. Whatever lead we find may be gone by the time we are finished catching-up."

Since everyone was with her, because she was sure Pio would yield his leadership to the majority for the moment, she reached into her bag and pulled out a piece of chalk. When she did, she started drawing, rather large, a basic map of the city on it, giving the chalk to whomever wanted it and passing it around the table as those who were here more recently would surely be correcting her. Once that was done, she put an X where they were right now and spoke. "If nothing else, let's devise a pattern for travel that will use our time the most efficiently while we're here. We need to be able to go as many useful places as possible in the shortest amount of time."

Sorry for the delay guys. I didn't want to be the first to post again, but when Ayrn posted, I ran into another hitch. I spent ALL week working on a character for my table-top game which promises to be the most difficult I've ever been in. I should be able to post while in game tomorrow. Worst case, Sunday.

Topic: Chat with me!
Subject: Come on back!

There were some....er...small network splits and combines that broke my room down, moved it into Rizon where there already was a #D&D, and then brought it back to its former glory...However, as a result, I don't have any members in the room! Come to irc://irc.animenfo.com/#D&D and chat with me. I'm bored out of my mind.

If you've never used IRC before, or don't even know what it is. There's a firefox extension called Chatzilla that I use and code for. You can d/l that to connect to the irc chat room with little, if any, hassle. On that note, this site isn't as compatible with Firefox as I'd like, oh great webmaster .

I'm waiting on Tann's post, because I was under the DISTINCT impression that Croaker was, in no way, going to come to the meet.
