"Do you think it's a good idea to bring a boy, even if he does come how do you expect him to fight or who's going to stop him getting killed?"

Beau mutters from behind his milk, "could kick your ***"

Well, I'll have to get time in game to make it, but it will be based on the current level. I don't want you to have to wait forever for your item.

I'm going to make a bet with the other players of this game.

I will be the first person to post after the DM every time in order to make sure no one else has to go "well I don't want to be first".

If you manage to beat me, however....my character will make you a magic item of your choice (within his ability). Fair?

Subject: Beau, childhood star....or dead body on a battlefield.

Beau watched, drinking his milk quietly while the man made his town crier announcement. He frowned behind his glass as the announcement continued. He knew what it meant. If he wanted to find a sturdy fighter to travel with, he would have to join the idiots and head for the battlefield. There were warriors, and then there were blind followers of a meaningless ideal. This man was seeking the latter and would surely find it.

Beau picked up his glass and walked over to the table, sitting next to the man who was now writing, still drinking and smiling.

**If I get something along the lines of "Go away kid" or "What do you want?"**

"I want to come with" he took a sip of his milk. "I want to see the fight."

This thread is showing up a lot lately. Does this mean there are spots open? I saw serenity and the entire firefly series recently and loved it. I think I might enjoy being part of this.

Subject: Honesty, Shiften style

“I ‘ate nights like t‘night,” Old Pen declared wearily. “Kith-Jora be playin’ a nasty game wit’ me t’night, he is.”

Shiften let out a sigh. More bad news was not what he wanted to give the old man tonight. He had to tell him though, because the old man was now in danger and Shiften couldn't live with that on his conscience. His voice, as always was merely a whisper, but it was just loud enough to be heard over the storm.

"I'm sorry. I came to offer you a chance to leave this life. Instead, I must now tell you that your life will be taken if you don't leave with me."

Shiften was never one to speak 'politician speak' or to add unnecessary words to 'soften' the blow of his speech. Instead, he stated what was necessary and only that. If Pen had questions, he knew Shiften would answer them, of course, but the old man was one of very few people who had actually heard Shiften speak, and he could only hope their long-time friendship held enough trust for Pen to accept the words and move out.

Topic: Most memorable villains of all time
Subject: 2 villains for the price of one

I got 2 for ya:

1: a villain a DM presented to the party who takes on the persona of the top hat monacle and villain mustache. He's a Star Wars villain, and seems "ultra-powerful" at first viewing. He literally got the entire party of good characters to watch a video of his evil deeds, and followed it by getting them to basically cause each one to happen ("the oxygen is going, get people out of the space station to fix it" and the villain had sabatoged the suits.) and things of that nature. In a recent game session we got to experience (with different characters) how the villain was released (by our characters). We now know that he's essentially electric current (think lawnmower man) which is particularly problematic in a Star Wars universe where there is an entire com-net for him to dance around and duplicate himself across. He appears (at the core) to have some sort of Roman Catholic ideology which is completely OOC since no one in Star Wars has any sort of knowledge of that, and has more fun driving people insane so that they kill each other than doing the killing himself. It's really really creepy when you run into a villain with unlimited knowledge and resources.

2: I recently created a villain (on the fly) that got an entire group of players cursing at me within an hour. By the end of the game session, almost every character had either gone crazy, or attempted to kill another party member. He's a mage who worships /my/ version of the god of magic and death. The mage presents an avatar of a clown and speaks in a voice that matches that of Krusty the Klown from the simpsons, complete with "hahahaHAha". The mage dragged them through his funhouse and presented them with a number of gags, that stacked with a number of actual dangerous traps and basically separated each from the group one at a time by one means or another. Once the entire group was split, they woke up in a stone room where he offered them a job "Kill someone for me". One group member tried to bluff and accept the job, to which the mage did what I call a proxy to him (a modified long-term version of dominate person). The party member caused the group to go further crazy over time as they couldn't figure out where these bad things kept coming from. In any case, one party member passed a will save at just the right time to stop the party from killing a general in the middle of a major city and ruined all my fun Still, the villain is still out there, and there's a lot of gags to come.

Subject: Question myself? Not Shiften!

There comes a time in every man's life when he questions himself. This was not such a time for Shiften. He knew that he had not made a mistake. It was, however, quite clear that the young lady had.

We want you to steal the Catalyst from Amer’Loc. Without it, we will not be able to rid Sendria of their lich-queen. Without it, we will not be able to free the people of Sendria—your people—from their pitiful plight. Will you do this for us, Agent of the Shadows?

She chose to make a showy exit without listening to him, and it was either a mistake or a further ruse. Shiften hadn't figured out which, but he was more than happy accepting the latter. Whatever it was, it meant she would have to track him down a second time. And after he sold the necklace, it was very unlikely she'd be successful. Silly nobility, all you have to do is say "Meet me at X" and hours of conversation and weeks of confusion and missing persons could be avoided. But then, that was more his thing than theirs. Those adept at saying nothing, were always useless.

“When d’ it start comin’ down?” Old pen started talking again after she left. Shiften shrugged and leaned back in his chair. He still had an all-nighter ahead of him, keeping an eye on the newbie. Then he was going to be headed for Amer'Loc. He was going to have to find a wagon-train to tag along with. In any case, he had the company of friends who were now in danger, and he had to find a way to inform Pen before he was too drunk to think, and without his company noticing.

--DM, go ahead and skip forward until Shiften spies an opportunity to speak to Pen privately--

Just as it is not illegal to allow someone to sit in your home and watch a movie you paid for, it is also not illegal to let your friend use your D&D book. We're not talking about SELLING copyrighted materials here.

Subject: HE SPEAKS!!!!

Shiften smiled at her. It was the first emotion he'd shown at this meeting, but it was sincere. He was ready to laugh at how easily she had become flustered. He hadn't intended to cause her confusion. Truth be told, it was even more flattering. It told him the real value she placed on him. She had elevated him to near god-like status, and it was an unfortunate ego boost. It was, however, enough of an ego boost that he was willing to take a risk. He was willing to speak to this lady.

It was a whisper, and only that, but it was enough for her to hear. "You've already surmised that I don't speak unnecessarily, and with this level of pomp and circumstance, I only have the yes option, even if I don't intend to follow through with it. So why do you repeat a question to which you already know the answer, when you have yet to provide me with any information necessary to do the task you have asked of me?"

Subject: Srong silent type? you have no idea

“We’ve been looking for just the right sort of individual—"

That's all she needed to say. It was a ruse. That much was clear to him. He'd been tricked into robbing this woman. Still, she did go on. She kept talking a lot. The neatest trick was the brief time she drew attention to the reason everyone else in the room was so quiet. Friggin mages.

“Sendria is a corrupt monarchy" blah blah blah I know this already, darlin. "and it is the intention of my organization to change all of this" Really...That's quite a noble cause for an organization with so much dadgum money at its fingertips. It didn't seem realistic, but it still was worth hearing. After all, he was still alive, which meant he could still do what he'd always done. But these people would be a pest until he satisfied them at least enough to regain his cover with another mage's help. It'd been a while since he'd had to ask a mage for guidance. He was starting to wonder if his first contact was still alive, but there was conversation going on. And it had been his life to pick out the important details among the crap, so he had to focus on what this politician was saying.

“You should be flattered, really. My title, my estate, the necklace, they were all a ploy to draw you to us. We’ve already invested thousands upon thousands of bulrin in recruiting you, and we’re more than willing to offer you that necklace—which I can assure you is very real" DUH

"—as payment. In return we ask but one thing: We want you to steal the Catalyst from Amer’Loc. Without it, we will not be able to rid Sendria of their lich-queen. Without it, we will not be able to free the people of Sendria—your people—from their pitiful plight. Will you do this for us, Agent of the Shadows?” It was a lot of crap. It was politician speak, but Shiften had lived through years of sorting through the crap in bar speak to find the facts. Politicians were easier to understand than drunks--if only just.

The truth was, he needed more information. He could ask for it, but he didn't need to. She hadn't really told him anything. She'd asked him to do a job without giving him the details of the job. Whether his answer had been yes or no, she still had a lot more to say, so he just had to keep listening. Still, he knew she was probably holding her breath. The way she talked about him. Heck, the way she looked at him. It seemed like he was her idol. That--more than the ruse--that was the flattering part. Well, his frozen position was no longer useful. He had hoped that she didn't know which man in the room held her jewel, but the others were in some magical spell. She knew it was him, he didn't need to worry about it anymore. He leaned back in his chair and folded his arms across his chest. She had more to say. He was listening.

Well, if you want to push it, the reason I called you a cheater is 'cause I always pictured you as a better DM than that. Any DM can "catch a thief" to get him into the party. A DM of your caliber should be doing something more interesting.
