Subject: Say your prayers!

Spiff was examining his picture, hoping for some good news (and probably coming across a picture of his bodyguard lying on the pavement) while Guardian ran up. He kinda figured this was coming, but there was little he could do to change the big man's actions. He was certain that the only talking that would get him out of this situation had already occured, so further speech was a waste of time.

“You will hand over your gun to Scribe now. I will not ask again.” Spiff was sure Guardian was shouting in the rain and gunfire, or perhaps he was just that pissed. He was about to respond when, thankfully, DS did for him, Spiff still staring at his datawatch.

“It’s all good—be chilled, Guardian,” Scribe still had his gun pointing at Spiff, but he couldn't blame him. He had just fired a dual-purpose round within inches of his head.

Spiff knew that the aggression was cooling, so he missed most of what Digital Scribe said while he focused intently on the picture. He was about to start wondering why Firewind hadn't started work on him when he felt the presence of two more guns in the van, and the heat of adrenaline picking back up.

Spiff didn't move, regardless of whether he saw anything of value in the picture anymore, he needed to keep his head down. He had a forum post to start work on anyway, but it could wait until these gents put their guns down. He didn't need another bullet in him. His gun was holstered, and the big bodyguard could see that. He just had to pray that he no longer looked like a threat. He'd respond if addressed of course, but that hadn't happened, so he was working.

The thought of Rev's sour voice grazed through his head, and he considered how urgent that phone call was also. A scowl briefly smothered his poker-face as he recalled how stupid it was to give that girl his phone. He just hoped that she was as good as her reputation expressed. In any case, it was time for medical care now, so he hoped that doc was ready to get to work...if only he'd put that damn gun down.

Did Spiff see DS's red light turn off (or whatever it is)? His head was still up at that time. It probably won't change his actions much, but it will give him some peace of mind.

I apologize if I misworded that and made it sound like you were a bad guy. I like you, and I like your role-play, so stick around and kick Spiff's ass when he gets out of line. He deserves it .

P.S. My post is up, hopefully Spiff won't get killed by Guardian.

“Ever hear of asking, Choomba?”

Spiff's right eyebrow raised from behind his sunglasses. If it hadn't been attached to his face it might have hit the roof of the van. He had heard the guy named Croaker making some sort of deal with him. Surely this would've been in the discussion...

Spiff holstered his gun, No use if he's faster than me, and took off his sunglasses to look at DS. (persuasion attempt) "Part of the deal is no cameras. I've got way too much riding on this to have that thing frack it up."

----assuming DS puts the camera away-----

"Let me pay for the repairs on that thing. In exchange, I don't want to see any of this on the morning news if you know what I mean."

With that, Spiff reached for his phone, but it wasn't there. "Frack I hope she gets back here quick," and Spiff checked his digital camera to see what kind of mess laid around the corner.

slow down. I was simply clarifying that I had read the backposts, and I certainly wasn't blaming you for other players or npcs dead or otherwise. The two characters that your CHARACTER scared off were players that left the game (one came back iirc) irrelavent of your actions. One was a netrunner and one was a techie and both were with your BMW driving guy who basically went suicidal.

Then you mixed in what I was saying spiff was thinking into what I wrote. Spiff hired two bodyguards, you told him to ditch one, so he did. As far as he's concerned, though, he left the other one with you, and you got him killed off. After all, you're claiming responsibility now if DS gets killed, why are you bailing on responsibility with all these other characters? You're the one in charge, right? You have been from the beginning.

So, for clarification, I was just trying to point out, from the perspective you were presenting, that you were no better than the rest of us. And go ahead and give peacekeeper the credit for Spiff's actions, if you want, but there's a sh*tload more guys in the hole than we've had to fight with, so Spiff's actions have kept it that way.

For the record:

“Frankie its cool, no gun play between us I swear, just lower the damn firescape and get out of our way. After that you and your friend can do what ya want just hurry.”

was your deal, the deal that Spiff heard. So you weren't gonna shoot him. Spiff knew him on site as a media (DM said so) and would've shot him on his way down the steps had you and he not been into it.

Also, I read all the back posts before I joined the game, starting way back when with a rockerboy character who never got played. I know Spiff is putting himself into shit over and over, but don't forget that the girl is unharmed and her face is covered, and the entire crew Spiff had with him is in one piece. What can your guy say about that. If I recall from back posts, you killed a few cops, lost a character in a car chase, scared off two player characters, got into a firefight, killing two player characters who were working for DS after calling him to get more players into the game and you think I'm creating a mess by getting out of the gunfire? My character is a face-man, not a gunner. He knows how to handle a side-arm, but that doesn't mean he jumps to do so. Do you think he'd hire two body-guards for the meeting with you guys if he had been a front-line fighter. No, instead, he was about subtlety and got your crew out in one piece to boot. Now his body-guard is dead and he's got you to thank. Don't think you're the only one that gets to yell .

Anywho, I understand completely that you were trying to save my character. But he never heard you say that DS would be protected, just that you wouldn't shoot him. And he knows no cameras, just as you do. Don't let him "do what he wants" 'cause as much as I know how hard contacts are to get and how important they are for a character, Spiff is already having enough trouble dealing with his own and does not want a mess associated with yours to add to his issues.

One last thing, there are plenty of chars that I would be willing to pick up if Spiff died, so don't consider that me dropping out.

Kapeesh?

I'll do what you ask, but just for clarification, Spiff doesn't give a shit about you making deals with low-lifes behind his back, and behind the backs of the rest of the group. He knows he had a job to pull. For what it's worth, if you knew what job you were pulling, you shouldn't have offered media coverage to that jack-ass. I don't think DS is a bad guy at all, but I still don't think your character would really be buddy buddy with him after what you've said to him so far. Anywho, I think it'd be a reasonable move for Spiff to shoot the camera instead of DS (he has no reason to hate the guy) so I'll change it. Sorry for upsetting you.

Don't get me wrong, if my character dies, he dies. It's his decisions that get him where he goes. But I'm pretty sure that, based on your convos with DS, your char wouldn't care that he had shot him, in fact, he may even be glad to be rid of him. I mean, all DS has been for you is a problem. Also, if his mark's dead, I doubt Guardian would care anymore about it as he's not got a paycheck. I pay well enough to keep him from shooting me. But hey, maybe you'll give me a second to talk and Spiff can talk you guys down .

Spiff jumped off the balcony, praying for the solace of the van. His landing twisted his knee and dropped him like a rock, and his fit of irrational behavior was ended as soon as it had started.

Explosions and screams surrounded him as he pulled himself back up and rushed into the van, knowing it was useless to backtrack now. When he fell into the van, passing through DigitalScribe's green light, Spiff stared up at the ceiling, his anger rising.

Without turning his head (his gun easily reachable), Spiff flipped on his sandeviston speedware and turned his eyes to DigitalScribe, ensuring that all his focus was on his camera.

He slipped his gun from his holster and blasted a round through DS's camera.

::assuming all of this goes well (it won't I'm sure)::
"No cameras," he muttered, recalling Jack's orders, keeping the gun aimed at DS's head.

Spiff paused, looking back to the group coming behind him, and down to the group leaving on the ground, then back to his wrist. At first, he wanted to check the picture, but he knew there was no time. He thought about making time by waiting for the others behind him, but they were gaining bullet holes every second. "Frack this!" he shouted and leaped off the fire escape, toward the retreating figure of Firewind. "I'm gettin' the Frack outta here!" And as he landed, pain shooting up his leg, he put every ounce of energy he had to getting to the van, and hopefully that would mean safety.

His mind slipped briefly to thoughts of his phone, and the danger that it could cause the group if found, but the gunfire from upstairs had decided for him that there was no other option. He ran, crawled, scraped, and pushed his way into the van, whatever it took, without regard for anyone else's health or safety. Spiff couldn't afford to die in this mess, he had business to attend to.

Subject: FRACK!

Spiff was moving down the stairs as quickly as he could when the gunfire erupted again. He paused as he was about to round another turn to keep going down. The gunfire wasn't just coming from upstairs, but from around the corner also. This meant his way out wasn't going to be clear. Frack, Croaker, didn't you do shit!? His question was almost spat out as he saw Croaker and the likely Digitalscribe on the landing below. They were negotiating, and he would be unwise to shoot them, so his first instinct, as it always is, was to reach for his phone.

"Frack!" He slapped his empty pocket. His gun was upstairs with his phone in her hand. He sighed and moved toward the corner of the building, staying on the same level of the fire escape. If he reached, he might be able to just get a slight photo with his watch. He set up the camera and reached out to flick a photo of the alley. He needed to wait a moment, and this way at least he could get a view of what he was moving into.

If he had more time, he'd analyze the photo to make sure he got the gist of what was there, and take more if necessary.

Spiff didn't have any baggage, but I understand with his leg he'd be slow to get down. On the other hand, I only posted that way with the assumption that he would run into SOMEONE at the bottom of the stairs. you'll notice I didn't say who in my post. Also, I think the others were confused based on the fact that in about a round, maybe two (based on my actions and those of the other members of the upstairs group from how it reads) so it looked like we would be there fairly quickly also.

Anywho, just to point out what I meant by "know his name". His name is DigitalScribe (according to Croaker), that was a dead giveaway that he was a media...sorry, name yourself something like that and people will catch on quick, no matter how unknown you are .

So there's my moaning for the day. I want to make sure we're on the same field before I edit and post. So i'll talk to you on Sunday

Jozan, great post, but we only stepped out of a sliding glass door. There was no difficult maneuvering involved.

cdnflirt, I think we all appreciate the heads up. It's one thing for life to get in the way. It's another for just leaving us guessing.

Brom, would my char recognize DigitalScribe. Before, I knew I would catch the name as a media with the amount of time my character spends on the web (I didn't say net), but would I know his face? Moreover, isn't he still carrying his camera? If so, then that's a dead giveaway.

Spiff made his way down the stairs, he knew the others should be following him, but his first priority was to get out of this rain and into the safety of his ride...wherever it was. As he limped quickly down the fire escape, he watched for doors nearby. If the gangers heard the fire escape, they could burst out of them and he'd be back in the mess he was in to begin with. His hope was that they were distracted by the gunfire and had run upstairs.

His second thought, as he stared at the walls of the building, was to look up around him. But given his lack of tech-adjustments in that area, he had little hope of catching sight of snipers. He'd have to rely on the other two for that. He padded down the stairs, watching for the other two to follow him.

Ok, so since Spiff found those schematics on his datawatch, I find myself to be more than a little lost as to its capabilities. In fact, I have NO IDEA what I can do with it. It says that it increases my streetdeal when I use it, but I don't even know what streetdeal is. According to the book, it is the ability to get odd jobs on the streets (like selling cars for parts) and to gather information. But how do I use it? I mean, I thought that's what I've been doing this whole time, but since I've gotten IPs in Human Perception, Handgun, and Fast Talk/Persuasion, I am clearly using the wrong skills. Help me out. What does my datawatch do, and how do I use my streetdeal skills?

Spiff paused for the briefest second. He wanted to sit down and massage his forehead as the problems started to stack. A lot of things had gone wrong, but this was the most that had happened all at once. They now had to pray for their ride having heard the gunshots through the storm, and he had the bird getting stripped right in front of him. Had his adrenaline not been pumping through his veins, this might've slowed him down. But his brain was going a thousand miles a second, and he now had a way out.

"Peacekeeper," he turned to the gunner, reaching into his pack "head out with us watching our backs. If you hear them make it to the door, take a hint from that twin and go full auto on that wall there." He pulled out his suit jacket and tossed it to Firewind. "Don't go undressing her, put this over her head."

At that moment, Spiff booked it for the office. He knew he didn't have much time, and since his leg was feeling alright, they could fix it later. He just hoped that Peacekeeper was in good enough shape to back them up. He looked at the glass to determine if it was easily openable from the inside and booked it out. ((if he can't find the lock or can't get it open for some reason, he'll shoot it a few times and kick through it))

Spiff had expected the brief lull, but hadn't been entirely sure he'd live to see it. He was glad to see that not only did he live to see it, but so did the rest of the crew he brought with him, but it was no time to slouch. He quickly grabbed his cell-phone and tossed it to Peacekeeper.

"Call your boy and get those wheels here now!" He may have had a bullet in his leg, but he was a face man, and it wasn't the first time he had to be calm in a rough situation. He tapped his datawatch and checked it for Reverend's schematics as he turned to Firewind. "Firewind, cover up her face so we can move her out of here without letting her end up on video. We still don't know where your media is, and I ain't takin' any chances."

((assuming he finds the schematics))

"Alright, Peacekeeper. Lock that door and get out of the way. Firewind, help me move this couch in front of it. It might buy us some time. There appears to be a fire escape through that office, so get our ride down there and let's get the frack out of here."

And Spiff, still limping, helped to move the couch in front of the door. First priority was getting the crew away from more bullets. Then the medic could easily wrap up their wounds. He was sure of it...at least, he was counting on it. Frankly, it was all irrelevant if they didn't survive.
