Updated. Jon, you fell again. There was a pirate next to you, and you gave him an aoo by bending over to collect your stuff. He did 6 points of damage and you are now at -1. You need immediate attention.

Ja'ara defended Jon, but rolled a 2 on his attack roll (the next was an 8 in case you were wondering about flurry). He totally wiffed.

The pirate killed another crew member because it has not yet clicked with him that the railing being gone means his allies have left him.

Finder you found something to soothe your concern about floatation. Now is a good time to think over what you need to do to survive.

Topic: Under The Sea
Subject: Missed the pirate still aboard?

Jon woke up confused, but was able to find some direction and collect his belongings. Unfortunately, there was still a pirate next to him and Ja'ara. The man swung and hit. Jon fell to the ground again, bleeding.

Ja'ara decided that it was time to defend his ally. He attacked the pirate. Unfortunately, his blow was blocked by the pirate who had just felled his ally.

The pirates still aboard the ship were clearing the remaining crew. Fortunately, Ja'ara's miss made him seem no more dangerous than the other crew aboard, so the pirate swung, slaughtering another one of his crew members. The other pirate realized his ship was leaving him and leapt into the sea in a sad attempt to swim after it. Just out of spite, the pirates aboard the retreating ship tossed off a couple of flasks of a strange red liquid. When one of the flasks struck the mast of the My Fair Lady, it burst into flames.

Finder was still in the water and needed to find something that would allow him to float. It wasn't difficult in the mayhem to find wood, and his size made it much easier to find something that would keep him afloat. He found a small piece of railing that allowed him enough space to float which, fortunately, no one else would want because it would let anyone larger than him sink.

Jon had fallen again, there was still a pirate aboard the My Fair Lady who was bound to continue fighting for dominance when he realized his ride had left him. The enemy ship was far enough away now that any attempt to follow it would be futile, and worst of all, there were small waves of water flicking the toes of those still fighting aboard the My Fair Lady.

Spiff went over the list of things with Reverend before sitting in the cab. He wasn't 100% happy that Reverend had chosen to take a back-seat, but he knew how much work there was to be done. It was somewhat likely his operations might even slow down this month over this stupid objective.

As Preacher nodded off and Spiff unwrapped his new pay-per-use phone, he did something very out of character. "Hope no one needs me." he mumbled to himself as he shut his phone off. "Doubt they can triangulate without power.

It was time to find a place to lay low for the time being. Spiff thought about using his contacts for this, but it was far too risky getting them involved. Instead, he decided to find a hole-in-the-wall hotel he and Preacher could hang at while he worked over his streetdeals and Preacher explained the specifics of how to stay off the radar.

No, Yes, Yes.

And you didn't make the jump because halflings can't jump Addy.

Umm...just so ya know, the halfling definitely caused the death of the Wizard, so he probably deserves it .

Anywho, don't feel bad if you all don't make it out of this. I've only had 1 player survive this adventure so far.

Topic: Why'd You Choose Your Avatar?
Subject: Mine?

Originally I had picked avatars based on the games I was in so that my characters fit my avatar. Then I realized that was impossible when one is in 5 games at once. Plus, this often resulted in my stealing other people's unique avatars (like Brom's).

At the time I picked this one, a SW game was just starting up with me as a player. So I picked the only decent SW avatar that Admiral wasn't using.

I'm very happy with it.

Topic: Under The Sea Q&A
Subject: and....we're back

Good posts everyone. Here's the update:

Jon is conscious again, and is first in initiative.
Ja'ara is next to 1 pirate (the other failed his balance and fell overboard) with Jon over his shoulder.
Brewstirr is dead. I'm sorry. If you want me to go over the mistakes that killed you (it was only a couple) I can do that in private. But I mean it when I say it was a pleasure having you. I'd be more than willing to help you get a new character in.
Finder is in the water next to the boat. You could literally swim back onto the boat if you wanted, it's that far under at this point.

The pirate ship has made a hard right turn and is pulling away from your vessel, leaving you all to die at sea.

Topic: Under The Sea
Subject: Dwarf down! Man Overboard!

Ja'ara was first to act. Perhaps it was his shock that got him to act so rashly, but he had decided it was necessary to save his ally. He rolled up to his ally who was lying next to the pirate and picked him up to carry him away. The pirate did swing at him, but he was clearly distracted (as was Ja'ara) and he missed, even as Ja'ara didn't realize he had swung at him. The jostle awoke Jon, who saw the black of unconsciousness fade as his body ached from loss of blood. (5 hp, but conscious again)

The enemies acted next, and the pirates slaughtered more crewmen. The *THWANGS* echoed loud again as the ballista fired in combination with the crossbows. Three crossbow bolts whizzed by the Dwarf as he moved to approach his allies. Unfortunately, these pirates weren't playing nice. The massive Ballista were reloaded now, and the wizard was the biggest target. The large-sized bolts struck the dwarf hard, one ripping deep into his arm, and the other striking straight through his chest and out the other side. The large arrow-heads then extended large steel rods out the sides and yanked the dwarf off the edge of the boat and into the sea below.

(both ballista hit the dwarf, and one crit-ed...41 points of damage. With your 7hp, that means dead. It was truly a pleasure having you as a part of the game. I'm sorry to kill you off so soon. Feel free to let me know and we'll get another character in for you. I don't like to lose players.)

Further, the ships kept moving opposite directions, and the ropes pushed their limits. The railing over which the grappling hooks were hung, tore away from the side of the ship, ripping from the wood of the ship with loud CRACK-ing sounds. It was clear the pirates had no concern for their own, as those who had only just made it over to the My Fair Lady found the railing ripped from behind them, and several of the pirates lost their balance, falling into the sea, and taking several of the crew with them.

The halfling made a point of causing havok again. His shout of 'fire' caused half of the rest of the crew to jump overboard, including the first mate. This left about 9 crewmates left on-board, aside from Ja'ara, Jon, and 2 pirates. There wasn't a dingy on the back of the ship, his quick glance told him, but he was running anyway, he didn't care at this point. Under different circumstances, he would leap for the pirate ship, but with even his strongest allies down, he didn't think this was the best idea. He leaped from the burning ship into the sea, only to realize that the sea wasn't so far down. The My Fair Lady was nearly sunk, but the Pirates had distracted them very effectively from the task.

There was a wizard down, the ship was almost sunk, and no one had prepared a way out. It seems the pirates had done their job. After all, even the whimsical Finder could see how tearing out the side-panels easily had afforded the pirates time to loot the ship while the crew was distracted with the above-deck battle. It was not a good thing to realize, but it seemed they were stuck here now. What would these adventurers do next?

Fiendish Shark was summoned, and it has darkvision.
It will be there for 4 rounds if I'm not mistaken.
It attacks the same round as the one I summoned it, and always on my round. This means it gets the fish before the fish gets to attack again. It should provide a decent distraction.
Yes, sharks are salt-water fish, but they can usually survive for several hours in fresh-water to catch fish up-river. Even if you deem this fish is NOT a fresh-water fish, it will still have as much as 30 rounds in fresh-water before death. Given that it is summoned, that's not an issue.

Subject: Percifeer shows her HONOR

Percifeer was looking over the edge at undisturbed water. The crossbow obviously didn't kill the beast, and she didn't have time to worry about whether it did. She wasn't going to sit by and let one of her siblings die at the hands of a fish, no matter how upset she was.

She used her power to summon a powerful creature (Summon Monster II) in the water below her. Her mental order to the beast as it formed was to attack the big fish with the knight in its mouth. Such a task would be too complex, except that she had an image of the beast as well, and the creature would do as she commanded. 'What appeared in the water?' you might ask. A shark (Fiendish Shark) swam down into the depths after the two mid-battle.

Now, she only had to hope that her brothers wouldn't try to keep fighting the creature when the more formidable threat appeared.

This is precisely the reason I kill them off. I don't care to keep them alive if they do something stupid. They'll learn to make better characters and better choices if you don't scratch the dice to keep them alive.

It was clear to Jon after his trip to the next pirate-protected rope that the rope from the other mast was just another toss-across, not any more special than the one he was about to cut. His actions were effective enough to continue to delay the onslaught. Unfortunately, this rope was not currently holding a pirate as there were now two in front of Jon. Only one was able to take a swing at him because of the crowd, but these men were skilled with their blades. They were shortswords, some rusty from lack of maintentance, that these men were swinging. This man thrust heavily into Jon's stomach and Jon Small's eyes rolled back into his head and he fell to the ground. The adventurer was still breathing, but not a threat to anyone anymore.

Ja'ara froze. He had not expected to see a comrade felled, and such a quiet life at the monastery had not prepared him for such an awful death. It was not visible to him that Jon was still alive. He had just seen the death of someone he had spoke to only moments before, and it seemed all too real to him.

The enemies on the boat continued to slaughter the 'crew'. The man who had thrust at Jon must have assumed him dead, because he continued slashing at the crowd in front of him. The other ship was starting to lurch too far, however, and the ropes were tugging dangerously at the railing. The *THWANG* of crossbows continued as the pirates reloaded their ballista. A portion of the crew pushed back hard at one of the pirates and managed to shove him overboard (a couple of them falling over in the process) after which they struggled at the grappling hook, unable to loosen it from the railing.

The dwarf had quite a task ahead of him. He would have to push his way over to the edge of the boat to get to an angle where he wouldn't light the crew on fire. At least, that was what he thought. As he approached the crew and pirates gave him a wide birth and he walked over to the rail of his boat rather easily. A careful look at the other ship, however, revealed it was a good distance away, and he realized his spell wouldn't reach. At best he could burn the ropes, but they would likely be wet with sea-spray and not light well. He'd have to come up with another plan.

Finder moved down-stairs without much difficulty. It wasn't as if anyone was looking for him, or even cared. However, it was quite a different situation downstairs. He had only made it 3 stairs in before he stopped short, nearly tumbling further down. from there down, there was mostly water. The ship was sinking, and the heavy ballista from the other ship had been tearing out large panels on the side of the ship. There were a number of crew-men splashing in the water, clearly unable to swim either for lack of knowledge or due to injuries. Still, something was strange. The room, the boat, heck the water itself. It was all very hot. Then he saw it. The side of the boat...the part that hadn't sunk yet...it was on fire. It was bad. There might not be much hope for this boat anymore.

One of the proper fighters was now lying on the deck. The My Fair Lady was sinking. The pirate ship was about to break away from the wreckage, and, for those above deck who could see, the captain was dead at the helm, with a crossbow bolt sticking into his neck from front to back. It was a sickening scene that meant one thing: This was a one-way trip for most aboard.
