Topic: Zombies in Chicago Q&A
Subject: Point of order

(lol I love saying that)

Check my post again, the axe dislodged after the fall (saved everyone the trouble of pulling it out). Sure the axe didn't hit any vital organ, but could have hit the aorta and the axe was plugging the breach, but with it gone, as olan put it, loss of blood could be a problem.

Oh well, I may have carried the mortal wound bit a little too far, or maybe not far enough, but I'm getting a backup character worked up for just in case. One of my characters will be blowing away a zombie!

She was one of the many captives from the unification wars. She was spared by Mezneoke himself, during an execution. Her temple, and God she follows is WEEJas. She still wears the holy symbol. She is a high elf adept lvl 3/ Expert lvl 3 and is now for the past 15 years the Grand Vizier to the king, and for the past 2 years Garthraike's steward. She's not much to look at but not to be underestimated.

when you requested help from jaspina, i rolled a diplomacy check for you. the DC was 17 (10+NPCs char lvl (6)+ cha mod (+1)).

Your roll results:
14+0 (cha) Your total roll is 14.

Jaspina's attitude toward you started as "indifferent"
her attitude has not changed.

actually i meant that sometimes some people don't follow the creation details to the letter and that the possibility existed that a player or two used books other than specified.
I don't know. PM me the item and Ill look that one up and I may include it in the adventure to be an item that can be acquired in treasure. ok?

No one has spent more than 4900 gp on any one item. you might wanna try the following books to find good items at the prices they seem to be finding (so many source books I'd rather go on the honor system than look up all those items):

Magic item compendium
Arms and equipment guide
DMG I & II

the best information youll find is in the hamlet of Leafhaven.

I assumed that the loss of your family was a rather recent event and that the governor wouldn't know about it yet. However you could mention it to him and he might have a small lead to get you started, but it is as I said before, Leafhaven. Jaspina may also be of some help, if she feels so inclined. She does, after all, have her own interests in this mission too.

So my suggestion is to role play your way to a solution to your story. I will be flexible and open to your characters goals.

Topic: Zombies in Chicago
Subject: Mac

"Keep an eye on Jake, he's got death in his eyes. I've seen that look before."

Mac was concentrating on setting up his pack and weapons, keeping an ear out for conversation from the others. Emily had "requested" a gun.

"Heh. I'd give you mine but I'm not ready to feel safe without it." Alaster called across the distance and in a slightly playful tone.

Sluggish footsteps from behind....

'TURN AROUND, MAN!', something in the back of Mac's head seemed to scream at him. Involuntarily his legs moved for him as he began to shake, somehow knowing something awful was about to happen and he wouldn't be ready for it......

He turned and faced the man...."Keep an eye on Jake, he's got death in his eyes. I've seen that look before...."

"Oh Sh**!", Mac heard screamed out, but the disembodied voice didn't seem to come from anywhere.

SHUNK! A harsh wet noise, like one would hear in a butcher shop when the butcher would cut a roast with a cleaver right through the bone.

"HUT!HUUUUUUUUUUUGH!", Mac inhaled what he thought would be his last breath. The new axe cut easily through the collar bone and what seemed like at least two ribs, and buried itself into Mac's Pectoral, just inches above his heart. As the realization of what just happened to him set in, so did the pain. He fell to his knees and had no control of where he would fall after. The axe dislodged itself from his chest as he hit rather solidly on the ground with a wet sounding thud.

Of all the things that could have happened to him, the water he drank in the drug store finally hit him. With the intense effort exerted not to let the girls see him cry from pain, he lost control of his faculties, urinating himself, and thereby darkening his black jeans a little more.

Mac had once heard that, animals urinate and defecate themselves when in severe pain or fear for their life in order to not be eaten, or to stop an attack on them. Maybe that's why he did it. Maybe he thought he would die. Maybe that's why he did next, what he did....

Murph's voice was the "disembodied" voice he had heard before and he was hearing it again all surreal and dreamlike, “Fall back,” he heard Murph shout and charging towards the now broken window, “Move to the back of the store! Emily! Amber! Move those a**es! Drag Mac if you have to,”

Drag me? "Like hell, you will." Mac slurred.

Mac pulled his gun from its holster with his right hand and called to Emily, "Emily, Take this!", and he slid his gun to her on the floor, "It's yours, now. Now get to the back like Murph told you to!"

To Mac, if felt like death was coming for him, he wasn't sure.

He crawled like a one armed dog towards the back of the store, finally making it behind the paint mixing counter, vaguely aware that he was shivering, shaking, and breathing heavy the entire way. When he made it to his destination, he just collapsed, yelping in pain.

The pain, it was too much. His mind just shut down and he passed out.

Subject: Throne of the Phantom King

The group has been a team of adventurers for hire for the last five years and become fast friends, and probably couldn't imagine questing without each other at their sides.

The party, in their travels, has gained friends in high places. While in the company of the governor ,Carlyle Jacor, overseer of one of the smaller townships of the Garthraike kingdom, one of his servants walks into the room in a quieted rush and hands him a letter sealed in gold wax.

After reading the note he excuses himself and grabs quill and parchment and begins to write hurriedly, then seals his reply. He asks the party if they would deliver the note to Priestess Jaspina in Garthraike. He promises an all expense paid two way trip and will pay them well when they return (1000 gp each). When the reply reaches Jaspina she reveals what the note says.

The note reads as follows, “Sorry to hear of your failure to find the King’s remains. We must confirm his death before we can appoint a new heir. I trust these people before you implicitly. If they will accept the task of hunting for the remains of the King, They will be paid
1000 gp each in addition to what I owe them, already.”

Jaspina looks to the group, "Well he says he trusts you and I assume you would call him friend, so, do you wish to take up the job? If so you need to travel around Mt Harauk and make your way to Leafhaven, an elven hamlet, that lies about two miles away from the Temple the king was last known to be investigating. Gather info and supplies there in the hamlet, then set off for the Temple. Here is 1000 gp for travel and supplies. Good luck to all of you."

Topic: Zombies in Chicago
Subject: Mac's scavenger Hunt

Murph just made a gesture towards the aisles and racks and said; “You know what you’re lookin’ for. Let’s grab it and go… Daylight, people… We’re burnin’ through it.”

And with that said, Mac set off to make his ideas become reality. First he headed down the aisle with the flash lights and grabbed six LED flash lights knowing they don't suck batteries dry. Batteries! Almost forgot. Mac checks the battery compartment to see what kind of batteries it takes (AA) and grabbed six 10 packs of AA batteries. Looked in the same area for Laser pointers but could find none. So he checked up by the check out counter and found three. There were six in the party now and he wanted six. He went in search for 3 laser levels, a laser's a laser, after all.
While at the counter he noticed some nifty Leatherman pocket knife tools, "This should come in handy at some time", Mac said to himself and grabbed one of those as well.

Next item on his list was black electrical tape. While looking for this he passed the area where Murph had once been and noticed the machetes. He held in front of him the aluminum walking stick. " This won't work as a weapon. Let go 'Jason Vorhies' with this", with that he grabbed himself a blade. He finally found the electrical tape. He grabbed 4 rolls of it.

On the way back up front he passed Alaster, "sup man? Finding everything you need, besides smokes?" he said with a smirk and kept walking, and almost ran into Jake.

"Oops, sorry man. Hey, gloomy face, got a problem?" ,Mac asked Jake, but before any conversation could start Murph spoke up his voice carrying throughout the store,“C’mon, folks,” he urged, “if we’re hopin’ to do any grocery shoppin’ before we find us a hotel, we need to wrap this up!”

Mac smiled though the other man wouldn't, "Well that's our cue." Mac headed up front to wait for the others. As he waited he loaded batteries into each LED flash light and handed Murph some tape and a flash light. "you might want to tape this on your gun, it'll leave your hands free to handle the gun." Mac passed out the flash lights keeping one for himself then after testing the Lasers, keeping one of the 3 pointers for himself, he handed out the other two and then the 3 laser levels feeling the need to explain, "these are primarily for a time, that God forbid, we have to split up for any reason, for signaling or pointing out objectives without being too obvious with the flashlights."

Before heading out, Mac stashed his Light, Laser pointer, and extra tape in a side pack pocket. He then walked up to Mac and asked if he could "cut a rope "belt" from the nylon rope" Murph had.

((assuming positive response....))

Mac cuts a roughly 35 inch piece and runs it through the loops of his pants. He then threads the rope through the sheath belt loops on the sheaths for the leather man and his machete.

"Well, Im ready when you are Murph" , and then whispered in ear of the man, "Keep an eye on Jake, he's got death in his eyes. I've seen that look before."

Taller and grander in physical appearance than others of their race, gray elves have a reputation for being aloof and arrogant (even by elven standards). Name: Syntax
Race: Android
Rank: Lieutenant Commander (Bridge Science Officer)

Back Ground: Syntax is the first successful product of decades of failures on the part of Dr. Ninian Soong's student prodigy and apprentice, Carlyle Jimpson. Following a falling out with Soong, after serving secretly as an apprentice and assistant for 15 years, Jimpson set out to show up his old mentor by creating a more stable and advanced positronic brain, with the ability to express emotion, use slang and contractions in its use of linguistics, thereby making Soong's life long labor obsolete. An interesting note, Jimpson died on the 10th anniversary of Soong's death. Soong died a year before Jimpson's secretive success, so he didn't get the chance to gloat and rub it in the robotics genius' face.

Like Data and Lore to Soong, Syntax is Jimson's doppelganger.

Topic: Zombies in Chicago Q&A
Subject: shopping list.....

Im basically out to implement some of my earlier ideas, so heres my list and what ideas they pertain to for the reference to the other players.....

LED flash lights:
To tape to the guns in case of a night fight. I would think that because these kind of lights use very little energy that the batteries (AA,AAA, or button cell)would go a long way, and in 2014 these should be widely available.

electrical tape:
Makes tighter and more secure strapping of the lights possible.

Laser pointers or laser level:
for subtle signaling if for any reason we have to split up. Instead of casting a broad beam of light for all (including the zombies) to see, a tighter more confined beam could be used discreetly. may also be used as a laser sight.

thats about it, depending on the answer to my question, here. My "aluminum walking stick", how strong do you allow it to be? can it take the punishment of hitting one of those zombies or I basically be wrapping the rod around my target, thereby ruining it? If it can't take being used as a weapon, I would like to grab a machete as well.

will pm you a inventory list.

Topic: Diabolic Genesis-Origins of Evil
Subject: The Battle: Rnd 1

Seluumiel sees, just before taking what cover could be garnered from the forest, Tenacity and her steed, Diligence take a lightning bolt to their hind end. The flying beasts were attacking. In retaliation, Seluumiel let loose a barrage of four balls of magical energy, hitting the attacker without error, hoping to bring it down. Her attack hurt the Hawk-like creature, but only slowed its accent.

The attacker, though it got the drop on the party initially, is now reeling from its wounds and trying to regain flight control. The other three creatures followed suit and began to dive and attack.

The second creature to attack hit Xavier with electricity, but it all but bounced off of him, miraculously barely scorching his tunic.

"oof", went Xavier then he sort of chuckled," that didn't hurt!"

The third attacker hit Camille with much greater force and efficiency, almost bringing her to her knees,
"Ahhhh!" screamed Camille. Her hit staggered her a bit but she recovered quite quickly.

Xavier didn't care. His sister had been hurt. "Hit me again you blasted beasts! Come on, I'll give you a reason!" Xavier ranted as he readies his shurikens for the next pass. He looks to his sister to make sure she's still alright.

Tenacity had ridden back to the party, after the attack on her and her horse, arriving just in time to see Camille being hit. She hides Diligence, getting him out of the fray and takes her place with the others saying more to herself than to any one person in particular, "Fat lot of good mounted combat will do me! Till they get close enough, I guess I'll just have to stand here and look tasty!"

As smoke drifts away from a scorch mark on Camille's clothing, she readies a spell. She fires off two scorching rays, hitting two of the creature's four wings, dropping the one Seluumiel hit earlier, shrieking as it fell, the fall kills it.

Chiron had seen the attack on Tenacity and her horse and his main concern was for the two. Knowing that Tenacity was up walking around, she couldn't be hurt too bad. So, he headed over towards the horse. No sooner did Tenacity finish her sentence, Chiron took a hard bolt to the back, staggering him slightly from the pain, but not enough to break his stride on his way to the steed. Once there he fully healed the horse, then turned back to the party, fully intent on doing the same for them when the time came.

After each attack by the flying beasts, they returned to their vantage point, high in the sky, readying for the next dive.

Physical Description: 5'10", 165, blonde hair, green eyes, tan, scar down right arm from shoulder to wrist

Personality: Stand offish around people until he gets to know them then opens up more readily. Helps those in need whenever people but swift to smite those that try to use him or others for their own gains.

Background: Orphaned at age 3 when Parents were mistakenly killed for breaking Laws that they did not break and was sent to the local Orphanage due to no family nearby. During his stay at the orphanage, he was taught that criminals should be marked for life, so several boys proceeded to cut him with a dagger, leaving a gash down his right arm from shoulder to wrist. A Cleric of Pelor passing by found him and immediately went to heal the wound. Patrick took the boys' words to heart and wanted the cleric to help him but let the wound heal slowly. He wanted to a reminder everyday of what he would be working towards. The Cleric was moved by this and did as he was asked. The cleric stopped the bleeding and bound the wound and helped him back to the orphanage. The cleric said he would not forget the boy and his words that night. At the age of 8, Patrick was summoned to the Church of Pelor by his Cleric Savior. Patrick did not hesistate to accept this invite as he was eager to use this as a means to attone for his parents' mistakes. He did everything as much as he could each day. Read as much as he was allowed time for, ate as much as he was given, did chores as much as possible until they were done, and played as much as possible when everything else was done for the day. He did that for 10 years until 10 years ago when he was first allowed to leave the church to lend help as requested. When asked to join the newly assembled group heading in search of the missing King, he'd take it as This would be his first chance to go out and prove his worth (and hopefully redeem his family's name).

Motivation/Ambition: Prove his worth as a battle medic, a good friend to those who need it and redeem his family's name.

Subject: Monster Post?

Well in comparison to any previous post Malek04 or I have done alone, it can be called "monster". It still pales in comparison to some of the posts Eol has collaborated on though.

Thanks Malek04 for getting me through my first joined effort, and don't let "Alaster" drink the rubbing alcohol! That's disinfectant.

I hope everyone enjoys reading it.

Topic: Zombies in Chicago
Subject: here it goes: Mac and Alaster

Alaster followed Mac down the dark aisles as they sought out what was needed for their survival. In the dimly lit atmosphere the empty pharmacy seemed eerie. The quietness set in on Alaster and he heard the voices.

C'mon get some more of that juice you crave boy. I wont leave you alone until then.

Go away I am not going through this again. Alaster had thought as he scanned the aisles for any neccesary items needed for the trip.

Hey they might have wild turkey. I know how you enjoy that stuff. Hell they might even have grey goose somewhere. You know you want to boy. Listen to your father and trust him on this one.

"No" Alaster had spoken. Mac grimaced a bit and tried to look over the shelves at Alaster, “You OK over there, Dude?”

"Umm, no we dont really need toothpaste. Sorry talking to myself there, Although Amber might want some. Not sure how she feels about her dirty teeth do you think i should get some."

"Yeah, you might wanna a least grab a tube or two, a toothbrush each, and while your over there grab some Listerine too, or equivalent.”, Mac said. Then his wit started acting up again, “And don’t worry about talking to yourself, it’s when you answer yourself when you need to start worrying.”

Alaster chuckled quietly to himself and thought, 'Wow I think I am starting to go insane. And I need to stop talking to myself.' Alaster continued to walk quietly when he came upon bottled water. The nice 24 packs of water you see at the stores when you are going camping.

"Should we fill one with water and such and leave the rest for other things?", Alaster called out.

“No, you don’t need to do that, really. I already filled one up with water and sports drinks from the cooler up front. Murph’s got that bag. We don’t want to weigh anyone down more than any of us can handle. By the way, did you ever get yourself a water or sports drink? When the going gets tough out there, I don’t want anyone falling out, due to dehydration”, said Mac.

"Well I started to drink a bottle but I think my bodies still undergoing a hangover. Heh never thought I'd say this but d*** I need to stop drinking."

No you don't boy. The juice helps you think remember?

Alaster lit a cigarette as the apparition of his father annoyed his senses. "Dang, only three left. Hey wheres the next place we can stop for cigs man?"

Mac said, “Well not here obviously. My guess would be at the Treasure Island Food store.”

“Mac,” Murph called, forcing his eyes away from Amber and Emily for a moment and sweeping the aisles in search of the bounty hunter, Alaster, and Jake, “The ladies’re headin’ for the back; keep an eye peeled on the front, huh?”

Heading to the front to meet up with Jake, Mac says, “Kinda got my hands full but I’ll do my best, Murph." Then Mac called out to Jake, who last Mac saw was still at the front of the store. "Jake, Alaster and I got supply detail, could you cover the front door a little more completely while we finish up?” With that he pulls his pistol opens the revolver and hands it to Jake, “five rounds left. Try not to spend them all in one place.”

As Mac leaves to continue the gathering of supplies, he turns back and says with a smile, “Don’t get too used to it. I’m gonna want it back before we leave here.”

As Mac continued down the bandage and ointment aisles, he picked up some A&D antibacterial ointment, with Jake’s neck wound in mind. One of the main things he was having trouble finding though was First Aid Kits.

“Hey Murph, Alaster, should we wait to see if the other stores have First Aid Kits or should I grab another bag and make one here? This place is either fresh out or it never carried them.”, Mac asked.

A masculine voice speaks from another aisle, "I'd say fill up here. We can bulk up on the essentials. Lord knows we wont be needing a million of those small circular band-aids." Alaster tried keeping his mind on the things at hand. His father pestering him could not effect what was going on at the time. He promised to protect her.

Mac wasn’t one to fool around with nit-picky stuff, so into each of the bags he put a bottle of rubbing alcohol, a bottle of peroxide, and one box or package of each kind of band aid, tape, and gauze, making for an immediately effective first aid kit for the bags he presently carried (3 bags).

Well, Mac, you've learned something today. You can look after others without a gun in your hands. Feels pretty good, doesn't it?

Mac always felt like a big man either risking life and limb in the stunt man circuit, or with a gun under his trench coat.

The trench coat! The way I felt when I was able to provide even just a little bit of comfort for Emily.

All Mac ever wanted was to feel like what he did mattered, that it made a difference. He didn't need to be the best shot in this world gone mad (though it would help some). He just needed to help Murph keep the group alive and well. It seemed that if Mac knew the feeling helping others would bring earlier on in life, he might have been a better person, and not so selfish and self centered. It's no wonder he had been single all of this time. Right then and there, he swore to himself and whatever Greater Powers there may be, that if he and the group got through this alive, that he would begin, today, to turn his loner lifestyle around.

There's no longer any room for lone wolves in this world. If we are to make it, it's gonna have to be together. Are we the baddest Mo-Fos in this valley?

Alaster looked back at Emily as she followed Amber to the back of the Pharmacy. I have to protect her.

And what if you have to run? Let me guess you just leaver her like you did your mother?

Well then I drop the gun and pick her up if she needed it. I don't know what the future holds but. Right now I need to protect her. Because of her smile. Because of her eyes. Because of the caring look she gives. We need to have the caring she provides in the new world when this is all over. And because......

No, son. If you say that, it all changes.

"Heh, you are right on one thing dad."
_______________________________________________

“How’s the shoppin’ comin’ people,” he called as he clipped back out into the front of the store, “we need to think about wrappin’ this up and gettin’ down the road!”

Mac spoke up for both Alaster and himself, “Wrapping it up now, Murph. Come on Alaster, I think we have enough to get us though another couple days.”

Murph's eyes found Jake, then Alaster and Mac, then Amber and Emily before he stopped and began securing his own gear. As he did, he spoke to the group, “Mr Kramer, here, has offered to show us a safe place to hole up for a little while but we’re gonna have to be quick about it. When we haul outta here, I want Mac shadowing Kramer… Alaster, you and Jake next… Amber and Emily close on their heels… and I’ll cover our a**es. Whatever happens, we keep moving…”

When Mac heard this last piece of news, his heart sank a bit. Murph is going to actually trust this guy? Well, so much for weapon hunting at Ace Hardware, or getting a good meal out a can at Treasure Island foods.

Mac walks up to Jake and holds out his hand for his pistol, “Thanks for taking care of it for me, and for the cover.” With that, Mac drops two of the filled backpacks, he holsters his gun, and slings a pack on his back.

“Each one of these packs has some quick snack food, a few waters and sports drinks and a make-shift First aid kit.”

((well I guess enough is enough.))

just a little to easily, me thinks. Give it a week. I noticed it will take that long to get 4 players at least.

two days is no where near long enough. Im a bit stretched but let me know what info you need as far as a character is concerned and I will play. Telling you now, I won't be playing an ensign or a red shirt (usually security in STOS). lol
