Subject: need just a little more info

I have quite a few ideas! I do have a 75+ page campaign and setting done and im running it now (see Diabolic Genesis) but i can't send it to you (because you said you won't send it back, and it becomes your property). Amazingly, it rings somewhat similar to your setting (aren't Dragons & portals just nothing but trouble?lol).

Do you need a Whole Adventure or just something to give you an idea on how I write? Is there a word count limit or expectation? Does this "Try out" need to be complete with maps? Can I submit art and writing? Is there a deadline for submission?

Im sure i can think of more questions later, but i've done this twice before for D&D and Dragon magazine. I was rejected for very little things (such as things being asked above. To be more specific they didn't like my maps and I could be a bit wordy at times). I love to write, I just need to know all I can find out about your setting.

Subject: The race is on.....

Xavier had checked the stoutly made bridge as carefully and quickly as he could for happenstance of possible tragedy, all the while knowing if he took too long the inevitible blight of lava would come in contact with the ropes and planks and burn the bridge down. When confident in the bridge's supportive abilities he shouted ,"Come on in the bridge is fine! Horses too, its more than strong enough! I said HEEEEEEYYY!!! IT'S OKAY TO CROSS!!!"

By the time he finished shouting he had exited the bridge and waited anxiously on the other side for the others to begin their trip across.

After tying what she believed would buy more time for the others onto the bridge, Camille began an all out run for the other side, keeping her eyes on her brother and her goal, for they were one and the same.

The lava was gaining ground, melting the sand in its path to obsidion and threatening to do the same to the remaining party, as those who remained prepared themselves for one of the most dangerous crossings in their collective lives.

Seluumiel was next on the bridge. She began running, praying every step of the way for her safe crossing and the safe and uninjured state of the others who had yet to cross. The first part of her prayer was answered followed very shortly by the second. Camille had made it without harm to the arms of her brother.

After Chiron helped to lead Diligence and Tenacity onto the bridge path, she spurred the steed into action, lauching into a full canter and blowing past Seluumiel and made it to the end in no time. Seluumiel completed the trip shortly after unschathed and safe.

Chiron was the last. After helping Tenacity he grabs the chest full of the old wizard's belongings and begins one of the hardest sprints he's ever endured. He could feel the burn of fatigue in the back of his calves (or maybe it was the heat from the lava) and the strain in his lower back from the load he carried.

The ropes and wooden planks become doused in a deluge of lava, but interesting enough the ropes don't begin to burn immediatly, but the planks are a different story. The tension of the tightly tied ropes snap and pull apart the weaken and charred wood. The ropes unravel and as they do they begin to burn. Snap, goes the ground level ropes as they burn to hempen ash....."almost there!"....SNAP, goes the left handrail...."Almost there, Gotta make it"....SNAP goes the right handrail......

Chiron, in a last ditch effort tosses the chest the last ten feet and it lands rolling and tumbling at Xavier's feet. He then tries to jump the remaining distance, but there is nothing there under his feet to push off from, for the bridge drops out from under him. Along with the fallen bridge, Chiron Po plumits out of sight into the canyon!

Though I may not always agree or support all of our President's decisions, I DO admire our troop's loyalty to our free nation, and respect and am grateful for the sacrafice they make daily over seas.

My family is one of military tradition. My grandfather, who passed away last summer, was a retired carreer military serviceman, who served in three branches of the military and retired a master sergant in the Air Force. He also served in WWII and the Korean war.

So I say thanks to all those who have fought, and still fight to keep this nation free and safe!

Topic: Diabolic Genesis-Origins of Evil Q&A
Subject: This is the situation as I see it.........

After pouring over my "Tomes" in research, here are the facts:

All party members waited until Xavier fully crossed the bridge and deeming it safe before crossing it themselves, thereby alowing the lava to get dangerously close.

Though the lava is last in the initiative, it started out moving at 75ft/rnd and slowed due to cooling to 60ft/rnd. The lava is approx. 20 yards away from the bridge presently (60 ft).

The marching order on the bridge, gathered from information in the posts and logical order of events is:

Camille base speed 30ft/rnd (if running full speed in only one direction she can move 120ft/rnd and make it off of the bridge in 3 rnds).

Seluumiel base speed 30ft/rnd (if running full speed in only one direction she can move 120ft/rnd and make it off of the bridge in 3 rnds).

Tenacity on horseback, assuming she is riding a light warhorse base speed of horse is 60ft/rnd. It will take a full round to safely get past or pick up the two women in front of her, however, once she does, she can go into an all out canter and increase speed to 240ft/rnd and possibly make it in 2 rnds.

* balance check DC 10, +1 to check every 100ft while on bridge (riding at top speed).

Chiron, dressed in armor and carrying a chest is encumbered, therefore can only move twice his base speed on foot. If he summons his steed he also should be able to move at 240ft/rnd in a full canter.

* balance check DC 10 +1 to check every 100ft while on bridge (riding at top speed).

the lava will take 1 rnd to reach the bridge. once there it will do 10d6 damage to the ropes and wood once they are exposed to the lava.

The Fire Warding Stone Camille tied on only protects the ropes but will absorb up to 60hp of damage from the lava (the stone works like a "protection from (fire)Energy" spell as cast by a 5th level caster).

The damage rolls for 3 rnds are:

23
27
33

So according to all calculations and numerical facts present, the rest of the party have 5 rnds to get across the bridge and Chiron is at the most risk to still be on the bridge when bad stuff happens.

to Gboy:

#1 huh whats an IB exam? Must be a pretty tough test!

#2 I thought I was clear too. The game situation is "Cross or burn". Yet everyone is depending on someone else in this case instead of being like "holy crap! well any port in a storm!"

#3 Thanks for the post. It seems Chiron was the only one really "waiting" on Xavier. Seluumiel is waiting on Camille but I've taken care of that situation, so the ball is in their court now.

To All PCs:

I don't think I'm asking for too much when I say I would like to get one post per week from all the players. I've had some drop out because they thought that was too slow or they thought the game had fizzled. It sometimes fustrates me to see the same campaigne names up in the "latest updated" list over and over again day after day, but not see mine in almost two weeks to a month sometimes. This is the only game I'm running right now. The only game I'm playing (Paradyse Lost) in is on hold indefinitely because the DM is sick and in the hospital. Don't get me wrong, I'm not fustrated with Dragon Mistress. Game or no game, I hope she pulls through and gets well. I love this site and I love playing D&D, but I'm a bit miffed at the moment. I hope you all understand where I'm coming from. If you feel like a shorter, maybe less thought through, dungeon crawl might be cool we could try that or stick with the game we are playing. It's up to you all.

The danger builds as the lava from the imposing mountain pours forth slowing only slightly due to cooling. The lava is however mere yards away from the bridge now and the bridge is the only hope for the group, at least until.....

Subject: Camille (EDIT)

Tenacity says to Seluumiel,"You may have that chance sooner than you thought. Seluumiel, Camille, do you have any magics that might bolster the strength of the bridge or prevent the worst harm that might befall us if the bridge were to fail or burn behind us? I used a safewing emblem once, I don't know what magic powered it, but maybe you have something similar?"

Thinking fast, Camille gets the attention of the the two women. Camille gives a sly smile and says,"I may have just the thing", with that she pulls from one of the pouches on her belt a small stone, no larger than a gold piece. On the stone is a symbol of a drop of water over a symbol for flame.

As she ties the stone to the bridge's rope hand rails she explains,"This is a Fire Warding Stone. It should hold back the lava's destructive nature long enough for us to get across. It should strengthen the rope against fire, though I've never used one in this way before, anyway, here's hoping."
After fastening the stone securely to the rope, she begins running across the bridge, looking back with hope the others will soon follow.

(tumble check 25)

Xavier stands at the beginning of the bridge and gives it a few good shakes, then a couple of jumping stomps. The bridge barely moved. Amused at this he yells out,"Hey, Everyone watch me!"
And with that he proceeds to do a lengthy series of hand springs alternately landing his feet then hands on the boards and rope hand rails. Making it halfway, he turns with a semi-crazed smile on his pale face and yells,"Come on in the bridge is fine! Horses too, its more than strong enough!"

The dirt is very rocky and course (think Hawaiian dirt only rockier) so I believe that with the time constraints that your character would be intelligent enough to know that is not a plan with a good probabiliy for sucsess.

The bridge looks very sturdy. Each singular rope is 2 inches thick and is triple braded throughout (3 of the 2inch ropes braded into one). the Planks are tied almost as close to flush with each other as is possible with no more than 4 to 5 inches in between them. The rope rails come up to 4 feet and the bridge is 5 feet wide.
