Subject: oh boy

Wan took on a worried look as more and more mercenaries and nomadics began making there way to exit the tavern. Then he relaxed somewhat when Bas mentioned that at least we have an advantage over the lot of them. Just to poke a bit of fun, Wan spoke up.

"Ah, 'Patience' my eye! Crow just wants a farewell kiss from that red haired wench, and maybe a bit more." Wan said with a sly smile and winked at his friend.

"Come on Crow, She's not the kind you take with you on the road, she's the kind you buy a house for and settle down with. She could no more wait for you than you could bring her along. So put away any notions of getting a room and lets deal with this problem first."

Suddenly a terrible thought came to mind, "You know, considering we have opposed these creatures before, they may know where our kind can be found. If we don't get out of here soon, the Cruniak may be tracking us as we speak and attack this city or the known villages we come from."

With that serious thought in mind Wanwa'er up-ends his tankard and takes the entire pint in a few measured gulps, and unknowingly slams the tankard down on the table almost in true Khord fasion, sheaths his dagger, and precedes to grab his pack.

He then leans in with a whispered voice,"Well I'm pretty serious about this now. I say we let the inexperieced goons go before us and draw the Cruniak out. If these sell swords fight anything like the 30 guards that died, we can use them to soften up our quarry and take the creatures out. We can then use the cruniak tracks to follow back to their lair. Sound like a plan?"

THE LOCAL CURRANCY

Pardinal

Fusat - a shiny gold coin that sees circulation not only throughout Pardinal, but also with the independant city-states in the northwest, who trade heavily with the seafaring country. A proud galleon adorns this coin.

Leven - eight silver levens equal one fusat, which makes them a much more practical coin for everyday use. The popular leven bears the image of a wyvern.

Halten - two of the smaller silver halten are worth the same as a leven. This smaller silver coin is a relatively new introduction into the Pardinese economy. A halten is identified by the depiction of a bird perched on a tree branch.

Whorl - the lowly copper whorl is mainly useful only for small transactions, as it is simply not worth the weight to deal with. Six of these equal one laven; naturally, three equal a single halten. The whorl is imprinted with the image of a cutlass.

Subject: first post hehehehehe- Wanwa'er

Wanwa'er went wide eyed at first at the loud intrusive voice of the announcer. Once the news sunk in, a smile spread across his long alien face as he caught the attention of his friend Crow.

Wan and Crow had been friends for a very long time and could just about tell what the other was thinking with a single look from the other. Not that they were telepathically linked, mind you, just that they knew each other well enough to know HOW each other thought rather than WHAT each other thought.

Wan, being the adventurous and curious kind, relished the thought of a new adventure, not knowing what would be around the next bend or corner. Sure the thought of all that money interested him, but you can't go carrying a satchel full of money on adventures. You'd have to deal with banks or safes, which was a prospect Wanwa'er preferred to avoid. This mission on the other hand would no doubt top anything he and his friend had taken on in the past, and if successful, would set anyone that took the mission up financially for a good long time.

A twinge of magic seemed to sparkle in Wan's eyes as he gave voice to his thoughts as he pulled his dagger and whetstone and began to sharpen the blade,"Well Crow? I'm in if you are. No need resting on our laurels."

Subject: sorry for being late to this party but.....

I believe the party's decisions should be handled democratically.

when a plan of action or a solution is needed, each party member nominates a path, plan, or direction or seconds someone elses suggestion, and if a leader is needed, said "leader" is the tie breaker in a stalemate. Other than that, everyone has a say.

Also Im working on a photoshopped pic of the male gelfling from The Dark Crystal. Only the females have wings in the movie so I have to add wings to his pic. After all he is a Kelden not a gelfling.

Topic: PbP Pondering
Subject: hey welcome back

Timing - The GM usually governs the speed, but for the games I've played in and run the general posting rule is, "One post a week minimum. If you wish to post more than once feel free to do so". To me, that translates out to most of the PBP games being an average speed of slow.
It's an unfortunate fact that a GM stands to deal with dropped characters and have their games fizzle if said GM enforces a faster pace.

Post Length - For both the GM and the players, post length should be what is needed. If a full page is needed, a paragraph, or even a couple of sentences, that's what should make up one's post. No one should ever feel the need to pull a novella out of their butt every post. That being said one's post should include all information necessary to prevent confusion for the GM and players.
When someone forces themselves to put out a massive post, it translates to the product and the reader, in that, the reader will feel forced to read the whole thing in fear of missing some pertinent information.

Free Form games - In my opinion, free form games are just that, free form. I've seen very few that follow any given set of rules. Free form is supposed to be collaborative story telling, but even then there must be limits. You can't have a mage in a free form game with a spell called "Nuke-em-all" and hog all the fun in taking out enemies. I do agree with you on this, however, that the Free form game forum has become a catch all for systems either not popular or not published. If you wish for more information on free form games, you might want to have a discussion with EOL who is running a relatively successful free form called "Smuggler's Moon", a pirate centered adventure.

I have learned all too well the advantages and disadvantages of running both PBP games and chat room games. I prefer the table top feel of the chat room games myself. I run a game almost every Tuesday evening. Feel free to join in the fun or lurk and observe the process.
(There will not be a game on the 12-27-11, but will resume playing on 1-3-12.)

Subject: R I P Lokee

UPDATE: This past session has the party in the forest, but Talen is missing Lokee made a poor decision to go off on his own to look for him.

And ran into some hill giants and was aided by some new characters. Finally the calvary showed up and the party routed the big brutes. That was the first time, and Lokee hadn't learned his lesson.

Then, rather than get to know the new people better, he went off to find Talen, AGAIN by himself and put even more distance between him and the party and ran into two beholders, and I mean that almost literally, he RAN into them (charged)! Well, that dude got so ate up (after a Finger of Death eye ray of course). So ends the story of Lokee.

Topic: worst DM/GM blunders
Subject: Be careful what you dish out......

....as treasure.

I once gave a magic item i came up with for a different campaign in a totally different campaign. Number one: the item was moon dependent and the new world had no moons.

Number Two: the item was close to epic in power and, if not an artifact, it was close. Allowed the party to Teleport Without Error.

Number three: I ignored the moon dependency and the item allowed the party to circumvent many of the challenges I had planned out for them (almost 60% of them) and avoid Random encounters during land travel.

This was back in 2001 when I was a relatively new player and had just begun DMing. I've since then learned two lessons: Be careful not to give out anything in treasure that you don't want the players to use (or abuse the use of, cause players will do just that). That and taking said items away can and most likely lead to players' resentment of the DM.

Oh yeah, when in doubt, just give out coins and gems.

Well Looks like im the second to welcome you! I would be an ungracious welcome wagon if I didn't give you a towel (hold on to it, you'll need it sooner or later) and a stein with your name on it to put on the mantle in Ody's bar, for his Realm's famous Froth-n-slosh.

Forgive me this shameless plug, but I run a game here in the chat room on Tuesdays. If you like slaying dragons, the adventure we are in now would be a great one to get in on. I have an open door policy on the game room (Tiamat's Gambit) so feel free to drop in on Tuesdays 7:30 to 11pm central time. Thanks to PMed maps and the dice roller in the chat room, there is a tabletop feel to the gaming.

Well have fun, relax, or escape while you are here. If you have any questions the staff is always here to help, and you could read through THIS.

And again, I welcome you to a cool place.
