Subject: Expect the unexpected

The reason I specified 60 points is to prepare you for a powerful campaign. I do prefer a more spread out group of ability scores (like all 16's) but a couple of 18's are fine. In fact I did leave it open for a character to have one ability score of 19 (after 4th lvl ability score raise). I will be adding the restriction of two scores of 18 max, one of which can be a 19 after 4th lvl.

Devon returns the gesture with a gentlemanly bow.

"I'm glad to make your acquaintance, Alexandria. I'm glad to hear the child is doing well now. I am grateful for your acceptance. It will be a lot better traveling in such company.
And don't worry, I won't be a bother to y'all, in fact I do have some skills in which might be useful to the group in the future. When I'm sure there are no mule ears around to hear me I'd like to tell the group more about myself later on."

"I like this hooded long overcoat", Devon says as he lays eyes on a dark colored (somewhere between brown and black) long coat, that on Devon, the bottom of the coat would reach his knees. The coat also has a thick hood that looks as if its made to hug the ears to keep them warm.

"Yes and thick warm socks do sound like a good idea as well.
You say there are prices but I don't see a price anywhere. Could you find it for me?"

Once the price is found Devon will pay for the items He has selected, then put them into his haversack until needed.

Subject: Meanwhile, Back at the inn.....

Devon decides he hasn't had enough to drink and needed something to wash down what was lingering in his mouth from breakfast.

He waves down a hostess and makes his order.
"I would like some herb tea with lemon please",he said then looking to Brianna, he asks,"If you'd like something its on me, anything you would like to drink." He awaits her answer.

He'll buy whatever she orders, or just take his herb tea if she wants nothing.

Just then Lorae and Alexandria enter the inn saying,"I hope there is something left for us."

"Of course there is, in fact I was just offering to buy Brianna a drink. Here,Let me get you two something fresh."

He slowly sips his tea down, relishing the taste. When he finishes his tea, He gets up and finds the hostess that served him and tips her 1 gp.

"I'll be back momentarily, won't be long",Devon lights his pipe and leaves the inn for a moment.

He nonchalantly strolls to the gates of town from which he entered earlier and finds a secluded spot to cast Mount to summon his horse.

Devon reenters the city with a fair buckskin stallion and lashes him to the hitching post. He goes back into the inn to see Brianna.
"Would you like to see my horse, Brianna?"

Rather than trying to search for a class type that fits those criteria (CL2, mod 4, 1st level spells, 1 spell/day), maybe you can tell me what your class is or better yet pm your character to me as is and i can see if you have your mp correct.
P.S. That's a pretty high mod, don't you have bonus spells?

I believe I answered you already but just in case, Its D&D and the Game post will be in Rules-Based RPGs -> Dungeons and Dragons -> Diabolic Genesis: Origins of Evil. Once I have the players.

Never knowing who is listening, he never was one to use his abilities in public much less talk about them. After all, that's how he made a living in his homeland. If those he won wagers from knew he had advantages that no ordinary commoner had they would have felt cheated and probably lynched him.

"Yes, Brianna, I do have a horse. I have a self sufficient mustang that comes to me by a special "CALL". It saves on feed and boarding. I have items that allow me to travel in other ways as well. You have a beautiful stallion, yourself. What was it I overheard you call him? "Shadowbane". It suits him. He looks very well taken care of. When we leave town and the entire group is together, remind me that there is something I need to address the group about that I prefer not to bring up in public with strange ears listening, ok?"

With that he finished off his breakfast, wiped his mustache and goatee clean, and left a 3 gp tip.

Character creation details:

All components and aspects of your character must come from the phb 3.5, phb II 3.5, dmg 3.5, dmg II 3.5.
Other books will be made available to characters as they level.

You will be making a 5th level character.
Use the standard point buy system detailed in the DMG pg. 169 for generating ability scores. You get 60pnts to spend plus the one ability score point raise at 4th level.

WEALTH BY LEVEL EDIT: The "Wealth by Level" has been overridden. The new wealth by level cap is 10,000 gp, which should allow for a 2500GP limit on any one item in consideration of the individual item spending limit.

Restrictions:

two ability scores of 18 maximum. One of which may be a 19 after 4th lvl ability point raise.

No characters with Evil alignments.

NO ability scores below 10 after racial adjustments.

NO ability scores above 18 after racial adjustments (with exception to added ability score at 4th level).

You MAY NOT put more than 25% of your "Wealth by Level" money into any one item.
-----------------------------------------------------------
All magic users need to use the magic pool system. You get mp in the following manner:

caster lvl X Int,cha, or Wis (According to class) mod =?pnts
spell lvls over 0 lvl= ? pnts
Spells/day X Spell lvl= ? pnts

Add points together and that's your MP. Put questions for character creation clarification in this thread. THANX

Topic: Devon Worcslayer of Genesica
Subject: Devon Worcslayer of Genesica

First I'd like to start with some back story on the land from which Devon Worcslayer comes from....Genesica.

Genesica, the origin of which has two legends. For the most part, everything in both legends are the same. The only difference is, where did Genesica begin? There are scholars that are native or descendants of natives to Krynn who believe that Genesica was an island that existed in time unrecorded about 500-1000 miles southeast of the Celestial Delta and the Towers of Eli. Scholars and lore masters native or descendants of natives to Faerun believe something similar. They believe that Genesica was an island 500-1000 miles southeast of Estagund.

This is the Faerunian version of the legend.....

On a beautiful island in Faerun called Genesica, a red dragon named Colossus ruled with an iron claw. She just
laid her clutch of eggs then went to sleep. During her slumber, the dragon goddess Tiamat blessed one of her eggs,
for she believed that through this offspring great deeds of evil would be wrought.
When the eggs finally hatched, five red wyrmlings were crawling around in the lair and one egg still remained. The next day the last egg began to crack open. First a tiny red head poked out, then a black head, a green, then a blue. A final head poked out, white as snow or ice, and as this head became visible the shell cracked completely open and Colossus was amazed but at the same time dismayed to see that the wyrmling was deformed for all five heads were
connected to the same body.
She was further dismayed that the wobbling reptile could not coordinate and decide which way to crawl, but the last
straw was when it finally zeroed each head in on one of his siblings and burned, zapped, poisoned, chilled, and partially digested with acid five of the red babies. Each one went down lifeless and he began to feast upon each carcass.
The new mother was infuriated with the tiny death bringer and picked him up, carried him out into the morning sunlight, and tossed him away as so much refuse. Colossus had no idea of the implications that these events held and did not care, nor did she know of the consequences that were soon to follow.
Tiamat soon made her self known to Colossus and called her from her lair. When Colossus made her exit, she was
shocked to see her son held ever so gently in the hands of Tiamat. The tiny deformity, diminished by the Dragon God’s
size, began hissing and spitting vile things in draconic at his mother and almost vomiting fire, poison, and sparks of
lightning at her. Tiamat put down the baby dragon and went to war with Colossus and slew her by freezing her with an icy blast from her white head. Colossus fell, and great was the fall of her.
A millennium had come and gone. When all creatures thought they were free of the tyrannical rule of dragons, the
dreaded son of Colossus, reared and trained by Tiamat herself, *Sver’ir* (in the common tongue means Dark One)
rose on the horizon of a new terrible era of rule over Genesica. He ruled as his mother once did and was venerated as a demigod unofficially. He made a volcano his lair for he had grown accustomed to the fires of Ba’ator, the home of Tiamat. He named his new home Sverthicasver (Mountain of Darkness, or as it has come to be known, Mt. Darkest).
As the Dark One’s rule continued over Genesica, an evil plan for domination formed in his sinister mind and began
making preparations at once. He took a half wyvern, half dragon named *Lorea’renk* as his mate and her clutch of
eggs numbered in the area of one score and ten.
His plan was simple enough. Through his ability to charm masses of creatures, he brought together mammoth armies
and commanded archways to be built so he may construct portals and gates to all the planes and realms as an
eternal fixture in his land to be used as the instrument of his dominance of all creation in any plane, and to stand
forever more as monuments thereafter to his superiority.
The time had come for him to strike. His children were old enough to find prey on their own though a few had fallen
prey to other creatures already. Almost all the portals had been created.
One of the gates was opened to the astral plane by mistake in the Dark One’s rush for supremacy (Tiamat tried
to teach patience, but that lesson fell on deaf ears) resulting in a tragic end for the beautiful island Genesica.
The other end of the astral portal opened into the pathway of an asteroid belt. Great rocks from this plane hurtled
and smashed their way through the gate. Without an atmosphere to slow or stop the onslaught of rocks, three
quarters of the land was laid to waste. One third of all life was destroyed including the Dark One’s mate and all
but five of his children.
The gate to the astral plane was ruined in the fray and the other gates and portals became unstable for use. They
functioned only to anchor this island to a fractal zone it has teleported to in the outsider plane. The link with other planes and realms were fortunate for repopulation purposes but unsteady at best.
With the Dark One’s legacy still intact, he vows to try again.....

That's the kind of world Devon Grew up in. He was born in 1974 P.E.L.E. (Post Extinction Level Event) in the city of Cabaya in the Mount Draconis Valley. His childhood was as normal as it could be. He grew up listening to stories of Blythe Shursite and his heroic routing of Wolvertain the Blue son of *Sver'ir* and saving the town of Cabaya from destruction. Blythe's three arrows of dragon slaying are still sought after by adventurers but those who have gone on the search have never returned.
Devon was hyperactive and was almost impossible to teach. His first taste of his magical abilities came at the approximate age of 10. His father wanted to send him to the Mage's University in Sebria. Although he could read very well, books were not Devon's thing and he would not have it. Credit given where it is due, he taught himself to control his powers and hone his casting skills until he could give even one of those rich, bratty, University graduates a run for their money in a mage's duel.
When Devon turned 18, his father gave him a map of Faerun.
His father had called in a few favors with a loremaster friend of his, Edgar Magernot. The cartographers and loremasters poured over tomes of history and legend and picked each others brains for information on Faerun to make the map. As accurate as they could make it, the map still has its flaws. Devon's father marked specific locations to visit in Faerun and tasks to perform in each location. He figured his son was old enough to make it on his own when he finally decided to leave and so gave him the map and told him "to try and escape this wretched place and make your way back to your ancestral homeland. When there, follow these instructions."
Five years later, Devon's mother and father among many others died in a surprise attack from *Sver'ir* and his second son Darmatair as a payback hit for Wolvertain. In true "Shursite" form he feared not for his life and joined the fight against the dragons. Sure that he would lose his life in the fight, he raged in battle as if there was not going to be a tomorrow for him. Getting as close to Darmatair as he dared to, he threw five daggers at the notoriously weak spot in a dragon's underbelly and throat. Two missed and three drove home into the target causing poisonous gas to spew forth from the wounds, unfortunately gassing Devon near to death but was later saved by a cleric of Pelor from Kamosa, a small town to the north of Cabaya.
As life continued for Devon, he lived with survivor's guilt wishing his own life would end. He took up smoking a pipe at 30 years of age and made a living taking reckless, and death-defying dares for money, secretly hoping his next dare would end him. Thats how he came to be in Faerun.
Some Mage University students pooled their money together totaling 156,000 gp daring Devon to enter a portal rumored to be unstable and unreliable for use. He used his ability to charm people and said,"If I am to risk this much, the least you could risk is half of the wager. For 78,000 gp I will walk through the portal and if I don't come back, consider me dead. At least I will have treated you to a vision few have ever seen."
They of course felt it was a fair request. and he stepped through. It took him all of a week to learn he had arrived in Faerun, and made a believer in fate of him from then on.

"Give me some credit for common sense, please and thank you! I know that she didn't cook the meal, my admiration of her is in her selflessness and kindness. I said nothing about lorae being a cook, I was Just commenting that the food was good."

Inwardly reflecting that he knew it was a mistake to make both comments together without clarification.

"No, I have no family there. My father, before he died gave me a very old map of the this realm, not very accurate though. He told me if I were ever to escape Genesica, that I was to follow the route planned out on the map and follow the directions written at each location. Both my parents died in a dragon attack, and I am here by the grace of fate. Back in my homeland, some spoiled rich kids from a city call Sebria bet that I wouldn't enter a portal rumored to be unstable and unreliable. They gave me half before I entered and they said they would give me the other half of the wager when and if I came back through. Well needless to say the joke is on them. I have half of a 156000 gp wager AND I made it out of Genesica. But now It seems my quest is to meet with failure. If Tilverton is being guarded, how would one get to look for clues to the cause of the city's demise? If you are all headed there may I join you?"

Subject: FOOD! J/K, Devon hopes to learn more of Tilverton

Devon returns looking ten times better than when he walked into the place. The dust and dirt from travel were washed away, his hair neatly groomed, and was almost clean shaven with the exception for a neatly trimmed mustache and goatee.
Sitting down to a hearty plate of breakfast, Devon demonstrates immaculate table manners, not wolfing his food down in spite of his bear-like hunger, keeping his elbows off the table, listening to the conversation, but always waiting for his mouth to be empty before he spoke.
"My compliments to the chef. The elf woman, Lorae isn't it? She seems like a nice person. I've only known her for a very short time and she's earned my respect and admiration already." He takes a bite of his meal, and waits til his mouth is clear.
"I admire someone that can put others needs before their own. I hope the child will be alright. By the way, what did she mean that Tilverton is gone? Did she mean the WHOLE city has disappeared?"
He continues eating, hoping he's planted a seed for conversation to gather information. As stated before, he's a talker that's for sure, but what is a good conversationist without being a good listener?

"Hey, Xuor, let me lend you a hand with those." Taking a share of the load, Devon and Xuor walk over to the inn to meet up with the rest of the group.

Devon's stomach gurgles loudly and he looks around hoping nobody heard it. "Guess I'm pretty hungry myself!"

As they near the Inn, a tall elf greets them at the door.
Although Devon is polite by nature and very careful not to offend anyone, he never did care much for elves. Mainly because it seemed most of the ones he met acted like he was a lower class than they, or at least too good to have him in their presence. He hoped she wasn't like that. He noticed how her eyes seemed to almost look right through him, he was hungry, tired, and had enough of the eye game from earlier.
So he looked into her eyes trying to match her intensity and
said, "That's the way I like to start a day, with good news!
Well met Miss. You can call me Devon. I would like to wash up real quick if you could point me in the direction of your facilities, please. The food sure does smell good!"

Devon and Xuor hitch the horses to separate posts and head inside the inn. Devon goes and washes his hands and returns to sit down at the table and eat breakfast hoping to learn a little more about his next destination and his new companions.

"Hello, Xuor" holding out a hand for a friendly shake,"Nice to make your acquaintance!" giving a big smile.

"No I'm in no hurry, Ma..., Miss Stormrider. I've got just as much time as you do."

Devon appears to be a tanned and well seasoned human male of average size (but still shorter than Brianna) with crow's feet at the corners of his eyes. He does look a bit rough around the edges but ruggedly handsome, or so he's been told on better days. At this point he's tall, dark, and dusty. His clothes are in good repair but wrinkled and unkempt. His black hair is tousled and messy. His eyes are a bright shade of Gray. His face needs a shave. Barring this, his smile greatly softens the rough edges.
He's wearing a Black silk robe, Black cotton shirt, a dark brown leather vest with pockets holding daggers, and a fine brown leather belt with an ornate buckle.

After giving Brianna a very quick look-over (trying very hard not to linger too long in any one spot, just in case she's sensitive to starring), their eyes met. Who looked first, he couldn't remember. He tried hard not to stare, and the more he tried it seemed the wider his eyes got (he had never in his entire life seen anyone with eyes like hers). He starts trying to avoid her eyes and focus on other features of her face (so he may seem a bit distracted or nervous).
Giving up the fight as to where to look, he turns to Xuor.

(speaking to Xuor)

"Did I hear you say something about, Diplomacy? Well, I'm not schooled in the ways of diplomats, but I can pretty much talk my way out of, or into anything! Back home they used to call me "Silvertongue". Never did like the name much, but it stuck and it kinda grew on me, though I still prefer to be called Devon.
I'm pretty good at getting people to seeing things my way or at least in a socially acceptable way. Well just listen to me, praddling on like this, I'm sorry. I've been traveling by myself so long, Y'all are the first people I've spoke to in a while and goblins aren't much good for conversation, especially when I'm pulling my daggers out of them (chuckles then clears his throat and resumes a straight face). When you two are ready just lead the way. I think I'll shut up now."

He leans against the nearest wooden post, lights a pipe, puffs while waiting patiently.

It's just after sunrise.....

Using a very old map of the realm, A dark stranger rides to the outskirts of a town not on the map. With a gesture and a word, he relieves his mount of duty and the horse dissipates into nothingness. As he walks the remaining distance to the town gates, he reads a sign in a whisper to himself "Pelan's Helm". Checks his map again and scratches his head,"Well, I guess this place looks promising."
He doesn't realize how lonely he's been feeling on the road by himself until he catches himself nodding and smiling at everyone he passes.
Still perplexed by the inconsistencies of his map, he spies a somewhat curious sight, what appears to be a female blacksmith. Needing information and feeling drawn to this particular person (out of all the people of the town), he saughnters over to her.
He may have been mistaken in his first impression of her. She seems a little more like a warrior than a blacksmith, maybe she's both. He hears a ringing sound off to the side and turns to see from whence the sound came. Nah, she's a customer, for the black smith is shoeing a horse. She doesn't look too busy so he decides to converse with her.
"Well met, Ma'am. The name's Devon, Devon Worcslayer. I was wondering if you might be of some assistance to me. I'm on my way to Tilverton but my travels brought me to Pelan's Helm and it's not even on this map. I fear I may be lost. Do you think you could help me out. I hate to impose on you any further but could you direct me to the shops in town?"
