"Tell your name and what you good at."

"Garron Magmaspyt, born in the Unther mountains. I am a life taker, my kills are sacrifice to Tiamat, my queen. I will serve this revolution, honoring the orders given and thereby honoring my queen with my service. I will not stand idly by and let anyone hack me down. What I am good for? I can fight with or without weapons. My body and my magic are weapons in themselves. When fire or immunity to fire are needed, also, there I can be of some use. And, as to fun, fun is in the eye of the beholder."

Garron stands tall, and proud, with a toothy grin and takes in the reactions of his superiors and peers. Though it is pride in his part in this mission that he is feeling, his posturing and body language may seem almost challenging to some present.

“I know they're raw recruits, not the elite team you requested, Paagdish, but they will serve nicely.”

Garron wasn’t sure he liked this woman, though it was honorable to serve, seeing as he had already pledged his service to the revolution.

She chuckled at the Jaebrin's response then answered the hob-goblin’s question. “I need Maple Ridge. I need the town, resources as intact as possible with little or no innocent death. Do not punish anyone for the crimes their parents have committed.” Her voice turned icy and hard as steel, violence flashing in her eyes. “Should a child be intentionally felled by your hand I myself will ensure you never make the mistake again. If you wish to kill without reason you should leave now. “

She paused long enough to make sure none of them were stupid enough to move. “Maple Ridge is a two day walk to the North. If you need any supplies that have not been given to you Belja's Nook, in the east, is a neutral trading camp. Don't start trouble there. I trust in your abilities to find your own means of paying.” She thought for a moment and then slid a hard leather case containing a map of the country from her saddle and held it out. “You'll have to decide amongst yourselves the best route to Maple Ridge as well as the method you plan to use to secure the town. Don't let me down.”

Was she looking at Garron, or was that just an all around order? Garron finally spoke up with a grunt and a huff,”Misteress I do not kill on just any old whim, but you sure know how to take the fun out of a mission. No innocents killed…leave as many alive as possible, that’s understood. If we meet with deadly resistance, do we kill or subdue?”

After receiving an answer to his query, Garron took notice of the lady’s distraction, something caught her attention. A new rider was on the scene. Garron had seen many of this new guy’s type before. They were always dressed differently from region to region, but he could always spot a paladin a league away, for they were almost always after his hide in Unther. This man’s presence doesn’t sit well with Garron at all.........Good he is taken with Triana.

Garron packed his things the night before after recieving his orders to meet at the gate. He hated orders, order of any kind. He prefered chaos. He would not be subserviant for long.

He was the last to show up to the meeting, just in time for the drow lady to give her speech and introduce Paagdish, their guide and leader, whom answered directly to her.

As she spoke, he took in those he would be serving with and sizing them up for who would be a threat to him. All he did in the past, and now in the present, was to honor Tiamat with his actions. He would see the Dragon Queen's will be done.

He stayed stoic and silent when the request for questions came. He waits for the chance to spill the blood of the "innocent".

'Heh, there are none that are truely innocent.'

.... in the "game"!

First of all Let me welcome you to the RDINN fellow inmate and kudos to you for rising up to the rank of "occasional visitor" in such a short time. You weren't a newbie for long were you?

Also, way to go on choosing to go the "hard way" first with DMing. Ive been DMing since 2002. My first game was a homebrew, but you have one advantage I didn't have: newbie players. All my players were seasoned and well versed in the rules so I felt quite embarrassed when I would make a rules mistake and the players weren't shy about letting me know it.

I have to concur with my fellow innmates on these points:

The most important thing is that you and the players have fun. It's the main thing that will keep your players coming back session after session.

And to add my two cents worth on having fun, Everyone deserves to have fun during the game, even "Rules lawyers". They are the ones that have read all the rule books 20 or more times. Its the D&D books they read to their kids and then read themselves before going to sleep. lol jk (I think Im kidding anyway). Its fun for them to know all the ins and outs of the game's mechanics. Therefore rather than glaring across the table at them everytime they say,"Ahem....point of order...", put them in the capacity of "Lore Master". Not only will that player be able to play a character but is also charged with assisting the DM/GM with making adjudication decisions that more closely gell with the rules, and to be ready at a moments notice to QUICKLY find said rules in the books to back it up.

I also agree with Celeste on every point she made in her blog on Epic GMing. Even here on the Inn I use maps. I upload them to Photobucket and paste a link in pms to my players.

The best DMs I know are both preimptively creative and can think on their feet and/or fly by the seat of their pants. A living breathing world with towns or cities with NPCs and working government structures is great, but an invaluable skill is to create towns and NPCs on the fly straight outta your head, and if you get really good, whole dungeons too. That is a skill you will have to practice to perfect, though.

If there are any books you don't have, I can email you the pdfs of most dnd 3.0/3.5 ed books. Just let me know.

Id be more than happy to pick up that character again. last i remember he was unconscious, and I didn't want my character to be "dead" weight and endanger the group. But I did like the "Mac" character.

Wan learned to hang back and let the warriors do their thing. He therefore hung back silently stepping through the forest, looking to Crow for any sign of activity, tracks, or clues.

He then whispered the words and made the motions to ready a spell for the first sign of trouble. Tracks were found, but they didn't belong to Cruniak. So who then. Gee, the unknown is exciting! His wings instintively stood up on his back in the tension of the moment even when there was no practical place in this forest to take flight. In any case, he thought he was ready for anything, but definitely had his comrades' backs.

(OOC: the spell he readies is magic missile. If readying a spell is not allowed in this edition, then he will ready his crossbow instead.)

Good news is my players leveled last session.

Bad news is that some health and real life issues have cropped up that will prevent me from running the chat games for a long while.

Sorry,

Im sorry for being so stupid. Ive been ignoring body pains for 3 months and popping asprins to get rid of the pains only for them to come back with a vengence.

That and my wife's nephew popped in on our door step last week and he is putting an extra strain on our finances. So some real life issues thrown in as well.

So here at the homestead I need to find a primary care provider and put a fire under this 18yo kid's butt to get his young and able body out there and working.

There will most likely be a reboot of the chat games much the same as they were started last year. I will go fishing for players when Im ready to get started again. Sorry. It was a GREAT run though while it lasted. I enjoyed our sessions and i hope those innmates that have participated have enjoyed their time as well.

...in my residential courtesies. Welcome to the inn fellow inmate.

on one hand, we want you to be comfortable here, so by all means....DM your heart out!

But don't cheat yourself out of the wonderfully awesome stories the others here have worked so hard on and turned into games. If you have an itchy writing finger, give a look to Eol's Smuggler's moon (a freeform adventure).

Also im running a chat room game that has a table top feel to it. The present adventure is called "Diabolic Genesis".
Runs on Tuesdays at 7:30pm central time.
