Alacrity will decide what happens and what doesn't, so you haven't overstepped unless he decides you have.
Not sure how many of us still get to play tabletop style, but online posting is much like playing through combat in tabletop. In each round, you can elaborate upon how you perceive your environment, your actions and your reactions, but consider that you really can only take on action before you would normally need to roll for initiative again.
Does that help at all? Rounds are only used in combat in tabletop, but using the concept in online posting, with rounds being as long as it takes to complete an action, can be useful in guiding you in posting.
