Subject: Well whaddaya know!

Welcome back Rer! You'll be taking Janelle back up too, I hope.

That little twist with Alice is just what I was hoping for. Loved reading that. Perhaps her appearance will come again, at the most inopportune moment.

May not have mentioned this in post, but Penelope will not be telling Alex (or Smoke) about what she did. So, Alice's return might have some rather difficult fall out for our Iberian siren. Just sayin...

Boo Boo, Cyrene sounds great. Can't wait to see how twisted the centuries have made her. Penelope is not going to be happy there' s a beautiful immortal walking among the Zazies.

Looking forward to more. xoxo

Who can say what really happened? Penelope believes Alice is dead, but belief and truth are not one and the same...

Only Reralae can truly do the demonette justice, and as Eol said, we had to write her out. Smoke on the other hand will be staying right where she is for now.

Topic: Witchcraft: Stare into the Night
Subject: She's baaaaaaaaaaack

Once again, the click of her heels pounded a rhythmic staccato into the streets of Old Town. Already the day had spun far out from what Penelope Rosa had planned. She had intended on manipulating a wicce detective into helping her deal with a few cultists poking their noses where they didn't belong. Finding herself already entwined in a war between the Cult of Azazel and a man hell bent on revenge had not been a pleasant discovery. Discretion alone had kept her alive during this exile in the New World. She limited herself to little more than trickery and only when needed. The years of secrecy had transformed Penelope into a pale reflection of what she truly was. And yet, despite a subtlety honed by centuries, a cult of demon worshipping fools had routed her out. All this she could deal with, if she had learned one thing over the passage of ages it was to adapt.

On this day however, time had found a way to throw her, to force her to take a breath. Countless lifetimes of experience could not have prepared her for the demon child leaking tainted rivers of power as she skipped about. Penelope was not often held back by scruples, but killing a child, even one consumed by taint, had been harrowing. It bored a hollow within her, an emptiness that could not be filled. There would be no tears. No release. Only memory.

Memory and regret.

Alice had vibrated with the aberrant power of the Mad Gods, an abomination innocent of the decay in her wake. Claiming a child had been wicked genius. What mortal sentiment would allow for doing what must be done? There had been no hope for Alice. Taint had claimed her so completely that healing could only come with death. It had to be done, and yet, Penelope felt its pain deep within her immortal facade.

Oh she was no match for Alice directly. If the girl had lashed out, the taint would have certainly taken her, perhaps it could even kill her. Yet Penelope was not one to act directly. The Mad Gods, in their abominable brilliance, had left their tainted champion with the innocent mind of a child, a mind that could never resist the lure of Faerie. Piercing the taint had taken significant power, but in the end her compulsion had settled into the child. Penelope had not stayed to watch. She only hoped that the death Alice gave herself was quick, and that none had noticed the beacon of magic needed to push the child on such a course.

It had not truly been an act of evil, and yet Penelope felt dirtied for it. Over the course of eleven centuries she had committed unspeakable acts but never before had she killed a child. Today that all changed. Today she had changed.

The mortal woman she played had no power to stop the rushing tide of chaos brought by this day. The mortal woman had no choice but to follow the path it laid out for her. It had been the mortal woman whose hand had been forced. That sniveling coward had taken the power she denied herself each day and with it marked her soul for all time. In so doing, she had ended the charade. The time for such games was over; it was time for Penelope to face herself, reclaim herself. The time of the Xana had come again.

Just so, her staccato step brought her back to Alejandro's door. Once again she knocked. It was time to get the going gone.

Subject: And here we go

Sorry for the delay in posting, but it's up.

Morrígu would be fine with a rest, especially if it means traveling by night. That would make her very very happy.

It's going to take some serious convincing for her to help with the burial. She's coming around to thinking light elves might not be different than her, but it will be a long time before she does not see them as enemies in her bones. She only got involved in the fight to kill zombies, not to help the elves. Right now she is curious about the elf, so she wouldn't protest him coming along.

Subject: Morrígu

The last flames flew out from her fingertips bringing a final death the abominations. As the final zombie fell, she and Xenophobella sighed a wash of calm coming over both again. If any but Morrígu could have seen Xenophobella, their sameness would have been striking. The impetuous child and the regal lady were mirrors of one another. Now they stood, side-by-side, looking down at the slaughter and judging it just. All had been made right with the world again. To any onlooker, Morrígu stood alone but even so she was imposing. The mercurial child had donned the cloak of the wise and with it, her two-color gaze seemed to pierce the soul. It would not last long.

A grumble in her stomach pulled the dark elven girl from what she might become to what she was now; alone among those that reviled her kind, all but a child, and hungry. With the complete trust of a child, Morrígu looked to Xenophobella for guidance. The older drow stroked her cheek with a mother's caress, a moment of tenderness that would surprise any who thought they knew of the ways of the dark elves.

"Gaer zhah cahallin ulu tlu inbalus, ussta ssinssrigg. Lor ulu l'chi darthien. Vel'bol ssrig'luin inbal nind whol cahallin lu'niar?"
(There is food to be had, my love. Look to the fallen elves. What need have they for food and water?)

A glimmer of light returned to Morrígu's eyes and she skipped down the hill to scavenge for her supper.

*******

Back up on the hill, Morrígu took a sip of water. At least there had been that much to be found. She would be fine for now, but the need to find food was pressing. Survival it seemed, was rather skilled at holding her tantrums at bay. As she pondered the dark liquid in her skin, Ochit padded up to her. Looking up, she greeted the orc-man with her gaze.

"Help light elves? Nice deep inside." He pointed to her chest. "Not tell others I noticed that."

Ochit smiled at her and she returned his ugly grin with one of her own. Perhaps he was going to be her friend after all, she just had to convince him to give her back rides. One day at a time...

Standing a part, she watched as the others coddled the elven survivor as they questioned him. All of her life she had known the light elves as her enemy. It was a truth beyond knowing. And yet now, alone, the elf seemed far too familiar. Against her better judgement, and that of Xenophobella, she squeezed her way to the front of the group to crouch before the elf. The other elf. Light or dark, they were both elves.

Morrígu let her eyes trace along the lines of his face. Like hers, it would forever be unmarred by time. In his eyes she found the same fey light, that spark of magic that could not be squelched even in a world that reviled the arcane above all else. They had been painted differently but were still the same.

"Your skin may be white," interrupting the others Morrígu spoke to the elven man, "but my elf blood is the same as yours. Remember that. Know it as a truth older than time beyond time."

She leaned in and let her gaze swallow him, elven eyes staring into elven eyes. And just as it seemed they would sit so for all time, Morrígu broke her stare and walked off to gaze at the blackened earth. Even here she could feel its taint, like a thick viscous tar clinging to her and all around her. It twisted her empty stomach into knots. That was the enemy of them all.

"If there is evil, if there is war and darkness. It lies there in that defiled land and it waits." Morrígu never moved her eyes from the scorched earth. She stood, once again wrapping herself in the cloak of the wise, to hold back the fear.

Sorry to hear about your back surgery and hope you are recovering well. I'm liking things so far, even if the charm resistant foes were a little hernia inducing. Damn druid.

Definitely need to deal with that fog cloud. Otherwise it'll last 30 minutes or so. We can try to use branches to move the air around the fog. Iara also has Prestidigitation, maybe she can use that to make small puffs of air to help break up the fog? Otherwise, each of the dancing lights is the equivalent of a torch, they could help us see in the fog.

I agree, we should check the cabin, carefully.

Iara continued to focus her fey magics on the faerie lights illuminating the figure in the fog. With his body unmoving, she sent her luminous probes out deeper into the fog, hoping to find another hidden away.

((OOC: Maintaining Dancing Lights and looking for another figure. Once the usefulness of that has worn out she will join the others in their search through forest and house. If any opportunity arises, she will use Charm or Confusion. Charm if the subject appears unthreatened, Confusion otherwise))

The situation with the elves can go both ways. On the one hand, they are no longer competition and they don't know who we are. On the other if they do report us, they could make trouble. If there is an opportunity to stop them...

As the zombies died and the flames fell, the nasty pasty elves began to run. Their pale bodies seemed to shine like beacons the in bright sun, Morrígu hoped it burned them all to ash. The wretched globe of light should be good for at least something.

Oh, she could see their fear was more for her than the zombies, and it brought a pleasant tingly sensation. If the groaning undead had not stood between her and the light elves she'd be playing with their fear right now. Alas, desires were not always fulfilled.

Looking to Xenophobella, the dark elven witch shrugged. There would be time to torture the elves later. In the meantime, zombies...

And so, Morrígu screamed dark words of power once again and flame danced out from her fingertips.

((OOC: Continue Fire Bolt))

Subject: A light in the dark...

Billowing fog swirled before her eyes, surrounding the hobgoblin and the two women. Iara hissed, it had been druidically conjured. For the most part she rather liked druids, there was an understanding between the sylvan devout and her kind. However, their resistance to fey magic was annoying at best. At the moment it was bloody intolerable. The druid woman needed to die, now.

There was no telling what manner of trap the three were setting in the fog. Were they to stand here and shoot blindly praying to silent gods they found their marks. It was an untenable predicament and she wanted to scream (and perhaps smash something delicate).

Light filled the fog for a moment, illuminating three silhouettes. A cruel smile painted itself across the Faery's lips. Let the druid witch's fog be the trap that slays her.

Snapping her fingers, Iara conjured four brilliantly glowing spheres of magenta light and sent them dancing into the fog cloud. She would illuminate what lay in wait.

((OOC: Dancing Lights - She willl move the four lights through the fog cloud to try and reveal the location of the hobgoblin, ifrit, and druid. The four globes should be enough to illuminate the 20 ft radius.))

Morrígu continued her scream as dark elven magic poured out from her. The ancient night magic raged around her send flames to fly out from her fingertips. She set those very flames upon the undead hoard. They would not claim her, she would send the abominations back into the realms of death.

((OOC: Continuing with the Fire Bolt Cantrip. If the zombies come within range she will cast Thunderbolt.))

Well, at least we're not caught in the fog. That would be much worse.
I think we should retreat a bit into the woods to make our own cover.

Thinking about having Iara send Dancing Lights out into the fog. Probably a humanoids form. Might draw their attacks and reveal silhouettes. What do you all think?

Iara grabbed the young shapeshifter's head and brought his lips close to hers. Just barely touching, the spoke an word of power breathing life back into Savis.

Releasing the boy, Iara turned her wrath upon the hobgoblin and his trollops. A gossamer web of Faerie magic spun out from her, it's poisonous strands seeking to infect the minds of her enemies once again.

((OOC: Cure Light Wounds on Savis. Then she will try Confusion in the subsequent rounds.))

It's Iara who never will!

The diminutive fey danced around her signing, laughing, and pulling her hair. Their taunting quickly rose the temperature of her blood providing inspiration to deal with the hideous cretin that popped out of the hut. Faerie magic spun out from to twist around the three newcomers.

Thousands of flashing lights in brilliant colors exploded around the hobgoblin and his concubines. The moment one light dimmed another flashed into existence. Iara focused the light storm around the heads and eyes of her enemies, leaving their bodies clearly visible.

Soon Morrígu found herself standing all but alone on the hilltop. Even Ochit had gone to face the zombies. If the undead continued their march forward battle would not be about saving faerie elves, but defending her own life. Yet what could she do? Without magic she had only a blade of bone, and wielding that would swiftly bring her death. Dare she reveal herself? Would that not mean her own death?

"ABOMINATIONS!" Xenophobella's scream pierced her thoughts.

The other dark elf stood at the edge of the cliff pointing toward the undead horde. A fury like no other burned in her eyes and she screamed.

"Filthy rotting dead that walk! It must be destroyed. It is our enemy. Bring an end to them all! ABOMINATIONS!"

The words echoed through Morrígu and she stepped forward. The dead that walked were the enemy of all elves, light and dark. That enmity lay deeper than any other. It was decided.

With a scream the little witch summed the dark magic in her blood and sent flame to rain upon the zombies.
