What if it's not a cliche drow? ;P Sorry, I'm (half) kidding, just really liking the idea of dark elves these days as creatures less benevolent towards shorter lived races. Of course it is highly unlikely that an elven queen would summon a dark elf so...

Since Eol has got a mage worked up I'll put together a priest of sorts. Will you allow the templates and kits from the Complete Priest's Handbook? There are a couple of interesting options there.

This does sound mighty interesting. I could definitely take on one more game. Don't know greyhawk, but 2e is great - rather fond of those limitations. I lean towards wizards or priests, or something of the like. How do you feel about drow?

...but one hundred is even better.

I'd be down for a collabo post, but it will have to wait until the end of September. I've got students crawling all over me right now.

As to what's next. Sehanine has her worry piqued, she smells intrigue or something larger at work. At the moment she'll want to investigate further, in a covert manner of course. That said, she's rather capricious and could just as easily be turned away to something else.

”Yer offer is of course appreciated, m’lady…,” Isiah began as he looked down at his feet with an uncertain apprehension. "…and an escort is always appreciated, of course… but this is a poor community, ma’am. We don’t haf’ perhaps what you’d consider in this case. Housing this man even ‘til a trial would put a strain on this town…”,

He paused and seemed to shrink with shame before her,"…we sought to merely hang him by the neck ‘til dead. We can’t allow any who would attack us another chance.”

The man hung his head and seemed unwilling to meet her violet gaze. By all appearances Isiah thought her some elven maid carved of noble ivory whose delicacy would be offended at such a brutal end. Truth be told, Sehanine had intended to keep Bartellus alive long enough to fit him into one scheme or another. Imagining punishments to keep the thug occupied until such a time had been most pleasant. Gelding still figured prominently in those imaginings.

Loosing Bartellus as a pawn would be unfortunate, but there were other paths they could take just as easily. A swing from the gallows would silence the thug just as effectively as any means she would imagine, and in truth one mere human life mattered little enough to her.

And yet you followed a boy child into this world and saved his life all those years ago...

Blinking, Sehanine let the memory pass and returned her focus to the here and now. New plots needed to be drawn and new pathways paved, she had little time for moral dilemmas and questions of self.

"It is unfortunate that such is the way of things," the fey elf spoke with a cool assurance. "For the loss of any life, even one such as his, is a tragedy. Yet you cannot allow one to roam free who would seek to do you harm. Surely this malicious thug will return only to blight you all again and again."

Sehanine paused letting a note of righteous glory bleed into her words, "We all shall stand beside you and see this deed done. Let us make ready and go forth."

Satisfied with her song the faery let the farmer go about the business of gathering Bartellus. There were still words that had gone unsaid, but she could wait until the morrow to pry any secrets there might be from the farmer. Catching Tristan's eye she smirked and ran a graceful finger along the tarnished bracer that covered his left wrist. A wicked twinkle began to dance in her eyes. Quests and heroics could wait until tomorrow. There were other old plots and schemes that could surely fill the day.

Subject: A drow in the dark...

SIFSIHLAN JOR! Udos z'klaen elgg ol!

The drow beside her screamed in rage and the words called forth a twin fury of her own. Her yellow eyes blazed with untamed fury as the wretched creature leapt up to reach for the dangling key. Faster than thought, the dark magic that was hers alone snapped though her, twitching at her fingertips and begging for release. She was more than happy to oblige, and made ready to release a dazzling torrent of light and shadow that would hold the vile creature to her will. Helpless and captivated his death would be an easy pleasurable thing. A soft hum of pleasure escaped the dark elf's lips as visions of a slow death danced through her head.

Action did not follow thought, for just as her being began to release her hex, the pedestal before her shuttered and sank into the ground. Rage forgotten, she stared in rapt wonder at the pit of darkness that opened before her. A low, throaty moan came from within her as she stared into the welcoming darkness. It filled her with ecstasy and desire, calling her home. Captivated by the sweet void, she peered into its beautiful depths to find a strange symbol scrawled onto the floor amidst illegible writing. It was yet too distant for her to read, but soon she would be home in those black depths, and then she would puzzle out its meaning.

"I shall make the climb down first," the kobold raised voice and it pulled her attention back to her fellow captives. "Unless someone else desires the honor."

She needed no prodding, any escape from the nasty torchlight was a welcome thing. The others around her all seemed just as focused on the pit, but she noticed an apprehension in the aging human. Could he not see in the dark? Is that why humans loved the light?

His words confirmed her suspicions, "Perhaps our torchbearer would be so kind as to accompany you? My old eyes would appreciate the help."

Old eyes indeed. She had never seen such an aged creature before. Fine lines marred his skin and wisps of grey were threaded through his hair. He moved with a slowness that spoke of the weight of years. It was so very odd. The man must have lived for countless millennia to have been so touched by time. It was unnatural.

A mix of apprehension and respect filled her eyes as she gazed upon the clearly ancient being before her. The drow beside her, however, was not so filled with wonder.

Gi Nyx, ussta ssinssrigg uk shiu'ta tlu naubol mzil taga natha dalhar. Rivvin dro lu'el wun jal jhal natha kristass d'l'sol. Ka uk zhahen 'zil zhuanth 'zil dos, uk orn'ia tlu zil takar 'zil natha inlu'thi wun l'sssiks. Ulu dro whol folt natha bista draeval morfethe tiuin rosin dubone ssran ol.

She nodded, an indisputable truth rang in those words despite how unnatural such a thing seemed. The awe that filled her gaze quickly faded, and she haughtily snapped her focus away from him. She had no desire to look upon a creature so pathetic that time alone would kill it. Although, she wondered if she could actually see him age before her. Curiosity piqued, she turned to gaze upon the human again and waited for a new wrinkle to draw itself on his face.

It was then that the vile rat drew her notice yet again. His ugliness assaulted her eyes and she lightly hissed as he waved the horrible glowing torch closer to her. Was the mongrel mocking HER? It seemed, however, that he was more interested in taunting the aging, night blind human, and that pleased her greatly.

"You think you can see in the dark, ancient one?" The rat voiced his question as he thrust the torch into the human's face. "Henh. I can."

He flicked his arm backward faster than seemed possible for such a creature, and let the wretched light drop into the depths before them. A blanket of blessed, cool darkness wrapped around them and she threw back her head and laughed with rapt joy. For this she would forgive the mongrel his many offenses. He had returned the darkness to her.

Sai... Siyo ussta ssinssrigg, nindol zhah ssinjin. H'uena 'sohna ussta ssinjin Nyx, udos ph'deimah.

A lusty, wicked grin painted itself across her face as she nodded to the other dark elf. Only in darkness was the true nature of the drow revealed, and now wrapped in its embrace she found herself filled with sadistic glee.

Another laugh left her lips, beautifully musical and horribly cruel. "Do you miss the light, old man," she placed a mocking emphasis on the words as she silently moved closer to him. "Why not climb down to fetch it? Perhaps it'll let you read all that writing on the floor?"

((OOC: Drow Translations:

NASTY RAT! We must kill it!

Oh Nyx, my love, he can be nothing more than a child. Humans live and die in all but a blink of the eye. If he were as old as you, he would be as shriveled as a grasshopper in the sun. To live for such a short time makes being born hardly worth it.

Ah.... Yes my love, this is sweet. Once again my sweet Nyx, we are home.))

"I... I have no idea what they were... searching you say... All I ever tried to do was work the land for an honest living... I cannot... I don't know."

It was clear that confusion and pain held the farmer tightly gripped, but Sehanine would not be letting him off so easily. Isiah might well and truly be completely ignorant of the intentions of the thugs, still the right questions might yield answers she desperately needed. He lived close to this land and very easily could have stumbled across something without ever being aware. Still. now was not the time to probe his mind. She would have to wait until he was no longer reeling from shock

"You say there's one chained in the hut? One of the men that attacked here? We could take him off your hands to face the towns justice."

The town's justice... It was the greatest of miracles that she did not erupt with laughter at the thought of such a farce. Rural hovels such as these rarely had the means to mete out traditional justice, and these humans utterly lacked the imagination or constitution for more unconventional retribution. Bartellus would likely find himself merely banished, and that would send his wagging tongue right to Jaron's ear. This was not something she could allow if the Fortune's Favored were to remain in Schell for any amount.

With a smile Sehanine laid a coppery hand softly on the farmer's shoulder, "Justice indeed must be meted out. Perhaps it would be best if we were there to escort him into custody. This man is dangerous." Her gaze hardened and seemed to burn into the man all the severity of her words. "Things are not what they seem. These vandals are not the cloaked riders of the sand dunes that you thought. They hale from around this land, and so we must proceed with caution."

Sehanine took a moment to look out into the distance in the direction of Jaron's supposed lair. If things kept on as they were, she and her allies would find themselves there within a fortnight.

"Among my people I am counted among the wise that must decide on such matters. I ask that you allow me to sit in council on this trial."

This, of course, was a complete lie. Her mercurial nature would haver surely driven a council of elders into a blood boiling madness, and beyond that, such matters were always left those who were truly ancient. Still, capricious as she was, Sehanine's life would stretch out through the ages and there was surely not one among these humans who could come close to matching her in years. This gave her a uniquely far-sighted perspective that would be invaluable now. Beyond that, she simply would not allow a council of hay chewing simpletons to wreak havoc in their ignorance. if not handled correctly, this trail could hand Jaron all that he wanted.

"Let one who sees the passage of ages offer you aid in this."

As talk began to turn to payment, Sehanine nodded in affirmation and quickly shot Calopee a subtle glance as if to say, watch all closely.

Subject: hey, WE didn't burn it down!

Sinking into elven reverie, Sehanine let her violet gaze drift beyond the mortal world and into the hazy twilight of Faerie. For most elves, the nocturnal reverie was a journey through their long lives. In the restorative stillness they reflected over the passage of ages and remembered who they were. Yet, the ancient fey blood that flowed through Sehanine was called home, and thus each night a part of her returned to Faerie. Those parts of her that were magic, mystery, and joy were restored. Yet to wake from this dream was to know pain, and as her gaze returned to the mortal world, Sehanine felt a loss as deep as the ocean.

Wiping a stray bit of moisture from her eyes, Sehanine found herself quite thankful for the shadows of the pre-dawn hours. It would not due to have her companions learn of her sorrow. For those of her kind appearances and perceptions were all and everything. In waning darkness she slowly moved through the hut, returning some order to the chaos left by the thugs. Their searching had been in vain, but it left one burning question on her mind. What were they searching for? The gossamer strands of intrigue had spun themselves around and far beyond the farm. Unraveling this web would be a challenge indeed. Isiah might well be the innocent he claimed to be, but there were questions he was going to answer.

Soft rays of daylight had found their way into the hut by the time Sehanine reached the spot where Bartellus lay snoring in shackled bliss. The relaxed stupidity written across his face brought waves of irritation to the elf. Shocked at the persistence of her fury, Sehanine turned away from the buffoon lest she make her castration fantasies a reality. The smile they brought to her face sped her steps to the window. Her intentions of watching the road were interrupted by an astounding profane sputtering.

"FUCKING CUNTS I'LL GUT YER FUCKING SHITSACKS!"

Turning to face the newly awakened thug, Sehanine blew him a mocking kiss and was rewarded with another creative litany of cursing. Peals of silver laughter rose from her lips and threw her head with gleeful abandon. While she had every intention of continuing to antagonize the man in his impotence, it seemed the others were not taking quite the joy in it that she was. One by one they each left the room until she was alone with the thug. Shrugging, Sehanine blew the thug and farewell kiss laced with magic and walked out the door. Judging from the startled oath, Bartellus didn't appreciate the intense and persistent flavor that now filled his mouth.

Standing alongside her companions, she sent the magic the scrub away the grime from each of them as they awaited Isiah's return. They did not have long to wait. In a few short moments the farmer rounded the path with a bumpkin escort in ramshackle armor. His expression of relief quickly changed to one of shock as he took in the scene before him.

With a look to the pile of bodies, Sehanine stepped forward to meet the man. "Sadly such things could not have been avoided. We had hoped to parley but that quickly proved impossible. They came bearing torches and had intended to burn this all to the ground. We stopped them. They were a nefarious bunch, and I am thankful that you and your boys escaped to safety." The fey elf paused a moment to regard Isiah and then added absently, "Two of them really went through your hut in search of something. I wonder what it could be... The thug we have chained up inside didn't seem to know anything. You can talk to him if you'd like."

Topic: Welcome to the Dungeon
Subject: La Lalalalaa

Gaer zhah naubol!

Nodding in agreement with the other woman's frustration, the drow girl passed around the room's periphery once more. Like all of her kind she possessed keen vision with the uncanny ability to pierce even the deepest of shadows. Once again her gaze found nothing. With a shrug she set her focus on the center of the room and found another had already begun to investigate the pedestal. Gripped with curiosity the dark elf moved in closer watching the diminutive creature with intent yellow eyes.

Bwael, Nyx. Kyori l'lotha kuma veirne.

There it was again. Nyx. The woman kept on speaking it as if Nyx were her name. Familiarity grew as the word echoed through her mind. Nyx. It did have a pleasant ring to it but it was decidedly much too curt to be her name. Something more flowing and poetic suited her far better, something like La Lalalalaa. Her eyes lit up a bit as the sing-song syllables danced in her head and so, the dark elf decided to give them voice. La Lalalalaa truly rolled off the tongue with a lovely ease. It was perfect, it was right, it was her name.

With a celebratory light dancing in her eyes, La Lalalalaa sang her newly discovered name as she approached the pedestal. The song stopped abruptly as her feet touched the ground before it. Something was different here and she adjusted her footing to test the earth beneath her. It felt weak, as if there was nothing but air below. That spoke of other possibilities, perhaps even caverns or tunnels below. Holding onto this knowledge she turned her full attention onto the pedestal and the kobold that stood across from her. Even in the brightness of the light she could see that it was not a torch but a strange crystal lamp of sorts from which dangled a small key. Noting that the little reptilian man had not only discovered the key but also had begun to peruse the pedestal itself, La Lalalalaa laid an obsidian hand on the gilded surface. His small, clawed hands began to twist the patterned rings before them and she noticed the strange runes formed patterns in a sequence so akin to language.

A second dark hand lay upon the twisting rings of the pedestal and slowly began to trace the glyphs etched into its surface. The other dark elf smiled and leaned in close to her.

Nindolen t'awen ph'ji saph l'zeklet'tau xanairess d'l'trelao. Ol zhah vec'end ulu ragar folt plynnithus ghil. Xuat dos talinth ussta ssinssrigg?

A curious light filled her eyes at the realization that she stared at the language of the Gods. She stared at the twisting rings with an intensity that would have melted stone. Try as she might, the meaning of the writing remained a mystery to her. It seemed mere knowledge of the language would not be enough to unlock its meaning. The unfortunate reality of her reliance on those she was imprisoned with dawned on her.

"Dogman!" She barked in the common tongue. "Bring your twitching nose over this way. The ground is hollow, perhaps you will sniff something out."

Assuming he would comply, La Lalalalaa turned her attention back to the kobold and smiled as sweetly as she could, "Look what we've discovered here little one. Might you read the celestial tongue?"

((OOC: Drow Translations:
There is nothing!
Good, Nyx. Watch the little kobold closely.
These symbols are so like the celestial language of the divine. It is odd to find such writing here. Don't you think my love?))

Sehanine let the others sift through the looted gear as she slid her longsword back into its sheath. Without even the faintest hum of magic, there was little that sparked her interest. More than a few of the items were finely wrought and would fetch a decent fee, were they in a city. The likelihood that a farmer in this humble hovel would have the means or the need for such gear was low at best. Better to let her allies add to their own arsenals. Sehanine was bitterly aware that their increased strength would increase her own survival in a fight.

The night hours grew late but there was still much to do, not in the least would be dealing with Bartellus. Letting the thug go off into the night was not an option. Her charm was potent but it would fade, and when it did he would surely start singing to Jaron. The outcome of such an event would not likely end with their fortunes being favored. Bartellus would have to be silenced, and she hoped it could be done without slitting his throat.

It was then that the Might Masked Marauder voiced his stomach grumblings, "I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm famished. We may have defended Isiah's farm but his cupboard doesn't stand a chance."

At this the fey elf rolled her eyes in disgust. She would NOT suffer through another bowl of Isiah's meat glop. The fact that Malachi hungered for more of the swill proved that the incessant wagging of his tongue had cost the man his sense of taste. As she watched the agile and ever-chatty warrior step into the farmer's hut an idea began to take form. It would not take much convincing to get Bartellus inside to blabber and feed. In no more than hour she'd have him passed out in a digestive slumber, and then they could go about cocooning the man in rope and chain. The image of Bartellus awaking in chains brought a sly smile to her lips.

"Oh my darling Bartellus!" Her call brought the fool forward with an almost too eager smile. "Let us go inside and find something to eat. You look ever so hungry. While we're at it you can tell me all about those strange cloaked figures you think may have given Jaron the idea to nab the farm."

Smiling, Sehanine laid a hand on his shoulder and led him into the hut as he began to blabber.
