Subject: Suspicion

Seluumiel watches closely for a sign of the dark elf. Her eyes fall on the woman, once again in the guise of a half elf. She frowned. Lacey was a dark elf, and now as they stood outside the house her suspicions began to flow through her mind. The woman claimed to be a priestess of Eilistraee but words could be twisted and lies could be told. Few were the dark elves that walked free of the Spider Queen, and precious few on the planet could outplay the drow in games of intrigue. Seluumiel stood and stared past Chiron into the face of the approaching woman.

"The others approach," Seluumiel announced as she stared at the disguised drowess, "Satya will you watch the boy for a moment? There are things that need attending."

The moon elf moved slowly and deliberately to Lacey. Fixated on the priestess she walked past Chiron, ignoring his question. As she reached the other woman she stopped and held up a hand. It was a formal gesture of greeting, and not a friendly one. She studied Lacey's face searching for some sign of treachery.

Seluumiel addressed the dark elf in the common elvish dialect, "Greetings Ardulace," she spoke in a cool tone enunciating the woman's name. "There is a great deal we must discuss."

Soronuume reached out a hand to Brianna, without touching the woman she felt for the broken material. Slowly metal and fabric began to knit themselves back together.

"Useful talent that is. Mothers had magic tutors one after the other try to teach me magic. she had choosen a Mage to mate with in hopesof getting a mage gifted child. I just couldn't learn any spells. she kept trying for years. finally one mage tolf her I was a sink. int just sinks into me and never comes out, so mother gave up at long last." the flame hair woman recounted as the elf repaired armor and tunic.

Soronuume looked up to the woman and smiled. The mending had been not more than a simple task, but for some even the simplest trick noted awe and wonder. Magic permeated elven existence, the very air around their lands vibrated with eldritch energy. She could not imagine a life without it.

As the green elf moved to reply to the amazon warrior an incandescent green glow enveloped the area. This was the vibrant green of life and its warm touch soothed her. She felt the mysteries of the forests of Evermeet dance within her as if she had never left her home. At the same time the primal vibration of the land became more vibrant to her and for a moment she could see dew drops rushing off of plants as they turned to drink in the sunlight. The forest rhythms moved through her and she drank them in joyously.

The mental image of Lacey and Chiron is just glorious. Thank you for that.

Taimat - The assumption was just fine, I just wanted to make sure I was interpreting everything correctly (too much time in PD...). Thanks for clearing everything up in the post.

Outside of the house Seluumiel rushed over to Satya and the boy child. She kneels down to take the boys face in her hands. Elven eyes trace the contours of the child's round human face. She had seen few human children in her life, truth be told she had little dealings with humans. They were strange and impulsive creatures, short lived and often short sighted. Humans were able to accomplish much in their short lives, and in doing so had managed to stand with her people as often as against them. Seluumiel sighed, only time would tell where this boy would stand and she hoped her people would come to regret this day. The moon elf sighed again as she looked into the child's face, for now he was an innocent babe and he needed all of their help.

"We are not out of the woods yet," the elf speaks softly as she looks up to Satya, "I have some ability in healing, I will do for him what I can."

Seluumiel looked up to the heavens searching the sky as esoteric prayers left her lips. Slowly she felt the enigmatic goddess wash over her like liquid moonlight. Sehanine Moonbow filled her with divine power and Seluumiel channeled it into the boy. As the divine magic flowed through her into the boy the elf opened herself further to the power of the Daughter of the Night Sky. Closing her eyes she whispered prayers to the goddess shaping the divine power around the boy, warding him from harm. Seluumiel exhaled audibly as the last of the spell power flowed from her into the boy. though exhilarating, channeling divine power was exhausting. She laid a hand on the boys face and smiled. It had been no great work of healing or warding, but it would have to do for now - her own talents with the art were better suited for divination and obfuscation.

Seluumiel turned back to glance at the house and her eyes widened as they fell on it. The form of the structure began to wax and wane before them, still holding Lacey and Chiron within. Sehanine kalye amin. The prayer rushed through her mind as she remained immobile, unsure whether to remain with the child or to run to her companion's aid. Only a few breaths passed before Chiron emerged stumbling from the house.

Not wasting a moment the paladin addressed them all, "Did every one else make it out safely? Is the child alright?"

Seluumiel moved to answer and then stopped. Where was Lacey? Her eyes darted from Chiron to the house searching for some sign of the woman. She had questions for the dark elf, questions at the very least.

(OOC: 1 MP Cure Light Wounds, 1 MP Sanctuary - both are cast on the boy. I'm assuming that Seluumiel has time to cast both since they are both standard actions and we are not in combat, let me know if I need to change.)

With skeletal fingers wrapped around her throat Ula felt the dark power wrapping around her. It bored itself into her sapping her will away. She fought it at the core of her being, but to no avail. Slowly she felt her spirit slipping from her into the dark grasp.

Suddenly the skeletal hand was gone and the darkness loosened its grip. The fey opened her eyes to see Jonathan standing in the dreamscape holding a strange lute. The strings vibrated with power as he strummed the chords, sending white energy into the skeleton. The creature hissed with rage and pain as it stepped away from her. Tendrils of darkness still connected the skeleton to her and it began to advance once again. Ula narrowed her eyes and spun a web of dreams around herself severing the darkness from her. Rage radiated from the creature as it continued its advance, but flames shot through the air consuming the skeleton and leaving only ash and dust in their wake.

Watching the fires sear the creature to ash Ula released her hold on the dreamworld freeing her companions from the dreamscape. The faery touched her hand to her neck, feeling for any sign of the skeletons touch. Her fingers found only smooth skin. Ula took a deep breath and sighed before looking at the waking world. Everything was as it had been. Her companions moved about in a daze, seemingly unsure of what had happened. With any luck they would remain ignorant that they had pulled into and pushed out of the dream world.

Ula stood up and moved to stare at the campfire. It's flames danced in the wooded shadows reflecting an orange light on her skin. Their flickering silhouettes flashed in her eyes as she resumed the calm repose. Things had grown to reach an unexpected complexity, and that worried her. Some force had managed to take hold of the Felwood dryads, that same force now sought to consume her. She had to find this power that now hunted her and release the dryads from its grasp. It seemed her own fate was tied to theirs.

The faery turned to face her mortal companions. Incandescent eyes stared into each of their faces. They had saved her, by the most ancient of the fey laws she was indebted to them and thus bound to them. She took a step forward and smiled.

"My thanks," Ula began "I owe you all a debt of gratitude."

Ula knelt down near the skulled staff. Holding her hand just above the skull she closed her eyes and reached out again to the dreams. Invisible threads of spirit spun themselves around the staff, constricting its power. The ward would not hold forever, but she would know the moment it broke. That would have to be enough for now. Though conflagration had consumed the skeleton its power and spirit remained, vigilance would have to be maintained. Ula stood to face the others.

"A new threat has revealed itself," the fey spoke as she pointed to the staff. "Flames may have seared bones to ash, but this entity yet remains. We must keep this, it is the key to defeating this new enemy."

She looked at the staff, empty eye sockets seemed to glitter with delight and she could almost hear a maniacal laughter wild in the air.

The door flew open and Seluumiel's eyes widened at the sight. A slender woman emerged from the door holding a small child in her arms. Smooth obsidian skin and silvery white hair immediately gave her heritage away, the woman was a dark elf. Seluumiel took a step back and hissed.

Mori'Quessir goth en silma

The oath spilled from her lips instinctively. Dark elves had killed her twin sister and the memories of Siliveliel's lifeless body flooded back to her. She bit back the painful memories and reached into her bag producing a thin silver wand. Holding it tightly she readied herself.

"To arms! Something wicked this way comes! Guard the door and ask me no questions! A dragon, its soul as black as its skin lurks beyond!"

Seluumiel caught her breath as recognition of the voice came to her. The drowess before them was Lacey. Somehow the woman had survived and found the child, but could she be trusted? Dark elves were treacherous and well known for their trickery. That had to be ignored for now, a black dragon approached and the hiss of acid proved her words true.

The moon elf spun into action. Seluumiel moved quickly to Lacey and the boy child as she returned the silver wand to her bag. Letting Satya take the child she helped Lacey to her feet.

"Hurry," Seluumiel shouted as she moved to the exit doorway, "Let us make haste to the town."

The moon elf waited at the doorway for the others. She did not relish the idea of facing a dragon and hoped the others would take heed. Even so she readied herself, spells dancing on her finger tips.

"What were you doing?" the flame haired warrior woman asked as Soronuume turned from the oak.

The green elf took a few steps to the other woman and smiled as she answered, "I was making sure the oak tree is okay, the Great Sister yet lives."

Soronuume stopped and stared at the oak tree for a few breaths. A familiar growl puller her from her reverie. The elf glanced towards its source to see Xu moving to her side. Smiling she kneeled and placed a hand on the panther's head before returning her attention to these new companions.

"WIsh my armor were so easily mended. and my tunic. I have no extras. I am going to have to remedy that when we get to the next village." the red haired woman spoke again.

"Perhaps I can help with your armor and tunic." Soronuume said as she reached out a hand towards the other woman.

(OOC: If Brianna agrees Soronuume will cast Mending on the tunic and armor)

Selunine watches as the torrent of air descends on the skeletons. Fragments of bone flew through the air as the elemental struck out at the corpses. Yet the skeletons did not move away from the creature but rather continued their forward march, an unending tide of bone. Holding onto the magical tempest Selunine readied another spell. As she begins to raise the energy to spin into her spell a group of survivors emerge from the sea of skeletons. They were a group of four, two men and two women. The skeletons parted before them, as if they were unwilling to get too close to the companions - something held them at bay.

Trillion appeared by her side as the four companions made their way in front of her. The skeletons continued to keep their distance, and she began to wonder just what power repelled them. Did one of these four hold necrotic power?

"Greetings I am Trillion and this is Selunine." Trillion greeted the four as she gestured to her. "We were on our way to Badon mostly just to visit it. When we saw signs of smoke in the distance and came to investigate."

"I suggest that we leave and head north to my home, I want to check on my parents. It is not far. I think it would be best to leave the dead to the dead." one of the women says points off to the woods to the north.

Selunine watched as the woman begins to head off in that direction. Something of this quartet held the skeletons back, she would follow them for a time. Perhaps she had found others that could fight off the power of Melios. Time would tell, and she would have to be cautious. The fey woman stepped forward to follow this unknown woman.

"What power do you possess that repels these skeletons?" Selunine asked the four not knowing which of them would answer.

She was not usually this forward, but now was the time for subversive means. A sense of urgency was in the air and she felt it strongly.

The moon elf concentrated on the book before her as she set the magical weave into its pages. Tendrils of magic spun into the book searching for what may be hidden. Full awareness of the book came to her and soon she knew its purpose. Just as she hope little had been revealed that she had not already known or suspected. The book's words could be trusted. She held in her hand a self writing journal, the legacy of its maker. Whomever that creator had been they had left some part of themselves in the tome, they had become literally part of the book. Some mission had been failed, one that had so important that someone had stayed behind in this book to see it done. Agreeing to take up this mission would activate the journals magic, but before that agreement could be made she would have to know what that mission was. Perhaps this guardian of the gate the book spoke of was somewhere in this house?

Seluumiel looked up from the book to the others in the room. The others were pacing through the room, obviously restless. She would have to remember that she travelled with those of the shorter lived races and they measured time in a way she did not. Taking a step towards her companions Seluumiel opened her mouth to apologize for the time and share what she had discovered, but the twisting of a door knob pulled her attention to it. With narrowed eyes she watched intently as the door opened revealing a feminine silhouette. She closed the book and returned it to her bag, there would be time later to deal with it. Keeping her attention on the door and the woman Seluumiel waited. The hiss of acid and screams of pain rang through the air and the elf steeled herself, confrontation of some kind was eminent.

Well now isn't that a novel idea. Winning and an opportunity to pontificate, what's not to like? I am in full support.

And Grugg, perhaps a healthy dose of tea and crumpets will help your accent? Try it, it's positively riveting.

The wood elf felt the awareness of the tree, slow but vital. She sighed in relief, the great oak still lived.

Deucalion, I'm looking forward to the lawful and chaotic knocking heads. Seluumiel is chaotic by nature and doesn't really see the need for any leadership roles to be established. However she's more than content with letting him think what he wants as long as she agrees with him. It's when the disagreements come up that the fun will begin - call me contentious.

Gboy, don't think there's anywhere to lay them out (besides the floor), but I think the map issue is pretty resolved. Seluumiel had the map now Xavier does. No biggie, just being a little A.R.
