"Disq's Blade, I summon you!"

Tristan's voice rang out through the night and heralded a divine retribution of sorts. As if made from moonlight itself, a ghostly, glowing blade materialized to hover before one of the bandits. With each strike it left faint trails of light behind it that to Sehanine's elven eyes left a map of the blade's dance. For a time, she watched the divine avenger twist and strike. Magic wrought by the gods was such a strange thing to her. It had a will of its own that demanded supplication, so different than the fey magic which came to her as naturally as breath. Still none could deny its effectiveness, and Tristan was hardly pious, despite his divine favor (or perhaps even because of it).

Watching the dancing blade gave the fey enchantress a needed spark of inspiration. Her own attacks, though unerring, were merely slowing the bandits down. She needed to do something bigger. A wickedly, gleeful smile painted Sehanine's face as she drew the blade at her side. The moonlight reflected on the blade joined the mercurial light in her eyes that grew brighter with the thought of possibility.

Although her path was entwined with magic, Sehanine was born of the elven lands, and like all of her people she had been trained in the dance of the sword. She would never be a great sword master, but Sehanine did know how to use the damn thing. What rule was there that decreed her body had to follow the blade she wielded?

A lilting chant soared and seemed to settle around her in an aura of mystery. Standing there amongst the stalks of wheat with her blade held out before her, the elf was reminiscent of some heroic warrior of old chanting a prayer to some forgotten hag of the harvest. Yes, she would defend that wheat and the comedic poetry there brought musical laughter to her lips.

Pulsing with fey magic, Sehanine opened her hand releasing the blade. Rather than falling, the sword floated into the air and then spun forward to join the dance with Tristan and Malachi. Three blades were far better than two.

((OOC: Casts Mage Hand, targeting her long sword. Sehanine will attack the bandit leader with the long sword and will try to remain hidden in the wheat.))

Well, that little hut is REALLY on fire. Might there be anything to send a flinging yet? Notice the hopeful gleam in my eyes.

Or something perhaps a bit less nonsensical. Combat posting twice a week is good with me right now. Might have to be short and sweet, but it's combat, y'know?

Awaiting the next update and dreaming of the improved invisibility duo of flying rocks...

Subject: Decisions, decisions, so many decisions...

Arcana crackled from Sehanine's fingertips and flew into the night as she flighted through the forest of wheat. Much of the battle had moved out towards the smoldering shed and it seemed that luck might be turning. Calopee's discovery would likely cost them dear. The little halfling's sniping stones had proved utterly deadly, and any lack there might turn the tide of battle in a decidedly unpleasant manner. It was not an outcome she was inclined to allow.

For the moment at least, she had been forgotten, and she could use that. She was not suited to the throes of combat, secrecy and manipulation were the blades of her choice. Any sensible person would let others do the bleeding for them...

And so she kept herself hidden among the stalks. Deft fingers began to trace eldritch symbols in the air and her voice rose in a witch's chant. Magic, once again, coursed through the air.

((OOC: If Calopee isn't able to hide Sehanine will cast invisibility on her (away from my computer and can't remember if it's touch or not - if touch ignore this option).

If Sehanine is threatened or attacked she will cast invisibility on herself and move away.

Other option is to find something to turn into a Mage Hand weapon to attack the leader. Preferably something that is on fire. Assuming she is not threatened and Calopee doesn't need invisibility, this is the preferred course of action.

If none of this is an option she'll send out another Magic Missile, both bolts targeting the leader.

Being last in the initiative requires more than a few contingency plans...))

Thinking of a stratagem... Might there be bits of the burning house that Sehanine can nab with Mage Hand? I'm a little determined to see this through...

Will try to get a post in tonight, but on my hand held all weekend, so no promises. Worst case scenario I will post Sehanine's actions OOC in the Q&A to keep things moving.

Subject: What you send out comes back to you

The acrid smell of the burning wheat filled the air, stinging her lungs and bringing involuntary tears to her sensitive eyes. She had run far across the way at the first scent of smoke, and although she was at a safe distance now, those flames would consume the fields and much of the surrounding land if they were not doused soon. Looking back, she felt a tiny pang of guilt at leaving Tristan to face the bearded leader alone. A primal fear had gripped Sehanine and speed her away. Fey creatures were native to the woodlands, and there was nothing more destructive to their world than a fire gone wild.

Blazing firelight reflected in her widened eyes as she took in the scene before her. Even if she could douse the flames, the fires were too far for her arcane reach. It would have to be left to another. As if in answer, Tristan's stance took on the tell tale signs of spell casting. By the direction of his gaze, it seemed he intended to do something about the fires, even if it would leave him vulnerable.

When her eyes fell on the discarded torch still burning on the road, a sly smile spread across her face at the thought of the poetry. She might not be able to do anything about the fire herself, but she could help keep her goateed rival alive long enough to douse the flames.

Reaching out, Sehanine let a bit of her magical being move toward the abandoned torch. At the moment she touched it, the torch came to life. It danced into the air and hurtled upward toward the brigand leader's head.

((OOC: Casts Mage Hand and moves the abandoned, still burning torch to attack the leader. If the leader is dead she will attack Bandit 7 with the torch. Sehanine will move so that all of this is in range if need be. If the torch is out or is picked up by someone else she will Magic Missile the leader and Bandit 7.))

Subject: Dark, Dark was the Night

The night had erupted into pandemonium. With the clang of steel and fierce war cries ringing in the air, it seemed almost as if they were caught up in a great battle of legend and not a tussle with some thugs over a rural wheat field. The irony was not lost on Sehanine. It seemed some would live and die for the glory of wheat.

Already Tristan spun into another attack amidst the two bandits and judging from the yelps of pain, Calopee had flung another set of stones into the air. At every pass the diminutive rogue became ever more impressive. A sly smile spread across the faery woman's lips as she pondered just what surprise the halfling would bring next.

Still smiling, Sehanine let the dark power of the night flow through her again and made ready to release an attack of her own. Between Tristan, the halfling, and herself they would make short work of the two bandits before them. Yet as her violet gaze fell on the men, their leader bellowed into the night.

"We'll get some killin' after all, boys. Deal with these idiots!" his call echoed through the night air and he did little to hide his gleeful hunger for the coming violence.

Sehanine narrowed her eyes to focus on the bearded man, silently cursing herself for hastily throwing magic into the bight before. It would have been such a pleasure to bring that arrogant fop under her will. He would have made such a good little pet. Yet the die had already been cast and it would do little good to mourn what could not be undone. Besides, the man had a desire to see pain and she would be more than happy to oblige him.

In quick answer to his call to arms, Sehanine hissed words of power concentrating the vibrating power of the night into a dark bead of force that hurtled into the man with deadly focus.

((OOC: Casts Magic Missile - targets the leader with both missiles. She will then retreat deeper into the wheat field to move away from the direct fighting))

So if I or my allies attack the recipient of such a spell they get a +5 bonus to will save. I'm thinking that since no one has directly attacked the leader yet he's not entitled to the bonus, but we are hacking at his allies so... Just want to confirm before Sehanine dazzles him with her girlish charms.

Subject: Twas the night...

With the fall of night they found themselves huddling the golden sea of wheat. Sehanine winced at the sight of the rustling stalks as each of them moved into place. Once they settled down the wheat stilled, but to her elven eyes, any movement was a good as a screaming alarm. Armed with this knowledge she held herself utterly motionless as if time itself had stopped around her. Tristan and Calopee obliged with a stillness of their own. They, like her, were creatures of subterfuge and its subtleties came as natural as breath.

Held in stillness, the silver haired elf watched the final rays of sunlight sink beneath the horizon. The passing of twilight left a familiar emptiness within her. Sehanine longed for the liminality of twilight, those fleeting moments when it was neither night or day. Twilight passed quickly but during its brief reign her fey magic sang. It was the death of another day and night rose up in all her dark splendor. Soon the golden wheat field was bathed in the pale light of the moon, a blanket of cooling light that hushed the world into slumber.

It was not long before a mounted rider approached openly on the dirt road, thinking himself hidden in the cover of night. To her eyes he might as well have come at high noon. Even on a moondark night, no elf would have ever approached so openly for its darkness offered no true protection. As if responding to her thoughts, the night blind idiot lit a torch and began waving it above his head. In moments he was joined by eight more riders and the pack of them began moving around the hut with a casuality that seemed incongruous with secretive men of the desert.

A voice rose up into the night and dashed any doubt about their identity. "No idea how those sanders wear these. Cannot breath in this shit at all."

It was all a ruse then, but it still left a question lingering in the air. For what? It was bigger than a mere raid on a humble farm to line their pockets with a bit more gold. The constant mention of this Jaron proved that someone pulled at strings for some larger goal. A moment alone with one of them and she would pry their secrets from their lips, they would do anything to please her. It was a pleasant thought that brought a wry smile to her lips. She did so love the game.

Her musings on manipulations were cut short as two of the riders planted themselves in the path directly in the front of her. It was not yet the time for subtlety and all around her knew it. At her side Tristan tensed and the pair exchanged a brief glance. The time to act was now.

Tristan burst from their hiding place, whirling into the unsuspecting raiders with rapier in hand. Her own attack came from the shadows but was no less direct. The power of night pulsed around her and she drew on it, forming it into pure magic. For a moment, the incandescent light in her violet eyes seemed to burn a little brighter as tiny motes of darkness danced around her gesturing fingers and coalesced into two pulsing spheres of impenetrable blackness. With a final word of power, Sehanine flung her spell out into the night and the spheres followed Tristan's path to spin into the raiders with deadly accuracy.

((OOC: Cast Magic Missle. Targeting the two riders in front of Calopee, Tristan, and herself. If one of the riders dies before she acts, Sehanine will target the remaining rider with both missiles.))

How about the three of us take down the henchmen in front of us? Shaving down their numbers a bit would be good. Sehanine can throw a magic missile at each of them. Between the three of us we might be able to take them out while they are surprised.

So, giving them the chance to surrender would be the honorable thing. Let's not do that. I agree with Philo and Chessic, their intentions are pretty clear. Let's take them out. Leave one of them alive for Sehanine to charm and question.

A smile grew on Sehanine's lips as the cabin door shut behind Isiah and his sons. Gliding across the room, the fey elf sighed quietly. The farmer had left, but there seemed to be moment of hesitation in his eyes. For whatever reason, Isiah did not want to leave this farm. Laying a hand against the window sill, Sehanine watched the three farmers tread down the mud road and fade into the distance. This little interlude had only served to heighten her distrust of the man. He was hiding something, of that she was certain.

Once they had disappeared beyond vision, the silver haired elf turned to face her companions. Eclectic would have been a generous word to describe them. A collection of tricksters, hopeful heros, and bamboozled knights... Would their differences bind them together or draw them apart?

Conversation turned quickly to plans for the nights. Once again Calopee was the voice of reason, calling for them all to lay in wait. It was a wise suggestion, and her respect for the stone throwing halfling was growing everyday. They knew far too little at the moment, and any tactic that offered even the slightest illumination would be welcome. Sehanine found herself silently nodding in agreement. From the look of things, she was not the only one who did not trust this Isiah.

The suggestions to search the property before hiding themselves away to await the coming riders. Their motivations might all be different, but at least they were in agreement on this one thing...

Finding herself within a pensive air, Sehanine sat and nodded silently, it was time they discovered what waters they swam in. And so, she joined the others as they moved out into the approaching night.

((OOC: Sehanine will help search and then will hide in the wheat field))

I'm a fan of avoiding confrontation as much as possible, but if it's unavoidable then we should figure how we want things to go. Do we want to go with diplomacy? subterfuge? or a mix of both?

Well, since we're kind of in a holding pattern, I'm going to append my post with Sehanine suggesting that Isiah and his family go to town. Assuming nobody else posts, I will do so towards the end of the day today. Just want to keep things moving a bit.

EDIT: Appended. I know this wasn't my idea in chat, but I just want to push us out of this stalemate we've got. If there are any objections I can remove that part of the post.

I think the desert riders already know Isiah, so not sure if a disguise would work.
Sehanine has Charm Person and Silent Image in her arsenal. Either might come in handy in this situation. Illusory rock (or bail of wheat) to hid behind? With us not knowing where they will be coming from, makes planning a bit of a challenge...

I'd rather not fight as well. I think we can get better results another way.

If we go the diplomacy route then having Relos and Mal upfront makes sense. Relos can do the talking and Mal stand as apparent back up. The rest of us can hide, maybe? One thing to keep in mind, Relos and the desert riders might be like oil and water, diplomacy aside. If it's a game of subterfuge Sehanine and Tristan would be the better call for talking.

I rather like the idea of using the parley as a distraction to do something else. It would be very like a number of our characters to send the paladin forward to talk and then do something, less than honorable, without his knowing about it.

How do we all feel about sending Isiah to town?
