Subject: Soronuume

As the first light of day kissed her cheek Soronuume batted her amber eyes open. She had been awake for sometime, but in the hours just before dawn she let her spirit wander into the meditative repose that joined her with the land. As another night died so did she feel a new surge of power rushing through her. It was the same every morning and had been so for as long as she could remember.

The copper skinned elf stretched over her legs before rising from the earthen floor. Beside her the panther Xu roused from her own slumber and yawned lazily. Smiling at the cat Soronuume made ready to leave the encampment. While the others busied themselves with packing their belongings the druid moved throughout the encampment making sure they left as little a mark on the land as possible. The little gear she traveled with was already stowed away in the magical pockets hidden throughout her belt.

When she was sure all was in order she lifted a handful of feed to Thunderclap before leading the grulla mare over to Brianna and the others.

Soronuume nodded in greeting, "Good morning."

Subject: Soronuume

Soronuume sat in the encampment with her companions and the newcomers. It was good to have time for respite and thought. In a matter of moments she had left the world she called home to find herself stranded with near strangers in an alien world. Her life had taken her on long journeys far from her home in the elven sanctuary, but she had never thought to leave the very world which had bore her. Toril had been all she'd known in the near two centuries of her life, leaving had been inconceivable. Yet here she was, and it was not all that strange. Had the elven people not come to Toril from the Faerie land? Her life had been sworn in service to The People, and even in this alien place she would find a way to make that so, she just needed time to think... and to mourn.

Where others lived on the earth of Toril she had become one with it and only now was that loss becoming apparent. Although this world still upheld the very laws of nature she could feel its difference. The life rhythms were different, it was not Toril. Xu sat by her side, uncharacteristically close, the panther accepted the change but even she felt the loss. Given time they would find their way in this place, maybe even find their way back home, but for now her life was tied to this new world and to her newfound companions.

It was odd that she found her self wholly immersed with their lot. For some years she had wandered the wilderness with Xu as her lone companion, only by chance had she met Lorae, Brianna, and Devon. Now she found herself tied to them, and perhaps to these newcomers. Such was the passage of life and she would make peace with it, eventually.

This new world held rhythms unknown to her, and a lifetime in unification with the natural world only intensified her awareness of that. A part of her felt an overwhelming excitement at the thought of attuning to this new place. It held new secrets and new wonders waiting to be discovered. Surely some of The People had made their way to this world after the sojourn from Faerie. Perhaps she would find them.

The sudden blaring note of a horn pulled the wild elf from her reverie and Soronuume's amber eyes darted to its source. She saw Flame dart away from a searing blast of light, an attack. In but a breaths time she leapt to her feet and darted forward silently beckoning Xu to follow. Then without hesitation she ran forward and leapt into the air.

As her feet left the ground her form flickered and changed to that of a great harpy eagle. The bird could soar as high as its cousins, but life in the jungle lent it great agility in navigating the twisting trees of the jungle. With avian dexterity she moved through the trees before bursting above their canopy to soar to Flame and Brianna. In a few heartbeats she was at their side. Landing with a great screech her form flickered back to that of the wild elven druid.

Soronuume stood strong beside the amazon and her dragonette. Curly tendrils of wild dark hair danced around before settling in place around a fine sculpted face and body. Her smooth, green tinged copper skin held almond shaped eyes of a bright golden amber hue that stared out before her. She possessed a wild untamed beauty that was apparent even now in her state of alarm.

Beside Brianna the elf did reach for her blade, she could call the fury of the storm and that was far more deadly than any blade she wielded. Instead she stared forward at the armored man before her.

Addressing the man Soronuume spoke out in a clear voice, "Who are you?"

Seluumiel let the power of her divination wash over her. Awareness of the animal minds cowering in the forest underbrush, hiding away from the house. From within the woodland vale a cacophony of ethereal voices swirled in her mind.

"Beware and take heed, YOU WILL BE LOST AND AFRAID!" a warning spoken from many points in the forest overcame her.

The moon priestess stared at the phantom house searching for some sign of the ghostly voices. A wild scream in the air above her pulled her eyes to the trees above. Eyes narrowed and alert Seluumiel readied magicks to unleash on whatever hostile being had come for them.

Selunine faced Sonia with impassive violet eyes. It was as she thought, she had seen Linus in her vision. She had seen him destroy an entire city and drain power from the lives he extinguished. This was the man that sought to bring the dragon's back, a man that destroyed an entire city. That man, this Linus, he knew of the Misty Isle. Arianna had been wrong, the Aos Si would not be spared.

Turning from Sonia the faery faced her companions. Were they all that stood between the world and total conflagration? A small distance away they began to make ready for their journey. Holding a hand up she gestured to them to wait. Brushing a silver tendril from her face Selunine turned to face Sonia once again.

"You say that Linus changed the Black Fang," she began, "Are there any in your order that oppose him?"

With her smile held in place Penelope listened to the tainted immortal child's response. Somehow the girl had resisted her charm and the siren found it difficult to maintain her pleasant smile, but maintain it she did - long ago she had mastered her emotions.

Cocking her head to the side Penelope let tendril of dark hair fall in her face as she channeled, "Your mother is a wise woman," she answered in a soothing voice as the flows of essence entwined themselves around her words beguiling any who heard them. "I would have told my own daughter the very same. I also never would have let her wander the city streets by herself, you should be careful little one."

Subject: Seluumiel

At the edge of the forest Seluumiel stood staring out towards Leaphaven. Her sapphire eyes sought out the return of Chiron and Tenacity, but all the while her mind raced. The strange house that had pulled them all together confounded all definition, even magical means had yielded no insight. If any divinations could pierce the veil that shrouded the house they were beyond her power to wield.

In all her life Seluumiel had been cautious. The life of a priestess to the Lady of Dreams was one of contemplation before action and she loathed to go against that which had become her nature. There was little choice but to do so and the moon priestess whispered a silent prayer in hope that the Seldarine would guide she and her companions through this quest.

As the last words of her whispered recitation left her lips an unnatural rumbling and rustling emerged from the wood. The moon elf snapped her head in the direction of the disturbance focusing her gaze on whatever might lay hidden in the shadows of the trees. From her periphery the elf could see Chiron and Tenacity approaching fast on horseback, but she paid them little heed. Her attentions were held by the wood before her.

Instinct guided her as she at once reached out to the magical weave and drew on the power of Sehanine Moonbow. With power both arcane and divine flowing through her Seluumiel spoke a word of power and focused her mind on the forest before her seeking out the source of the strange noises.

Seluumiel shook her head as Chiron and Tenacity made plans to head off to retrieve their horses. The house before them confounded the senses, both banal and magical, she had little faith they would find one another again should they separate.

Taking a step closer to the pair she began, "You are right, we go forward into the unknown and I cannot ask you to abandon your horses." She paused to rest her sapphire gaze on each, "I do, however, believe it will be dangerous for us to separate while so close to the house. We may not be able to find one another again in this mists that twist perceptions. If you must return to town let us all leave this clearing, we can wait for your return just outside the forest."

Soronuume stood silent watching as the newcomers approached, she noticed traces of elven blood in the faces of some of the strange travelers and at the sight of this softened her wariness. "Well met,"Soronuume said in a musical voice accented with the tones of Evermeet, "I am Soronuume Selu Elmare."

Still kneeling before the little girl Penelope looked up to peer into her tainted aura as she awaited the immortal child's reply. Only once before had she seen an aura so entwined with taint and it was not a memory she cared to recall. Holding onto her calm with all her being the siren continued to smile at the child.

"Mother, uumm..." the girl child answer and then paused as if trying to remember something that was no longer there. "I... don't know, but I've been alone for awhile now, so it can't be too bad, right?"

At this Penelope sighed and reached out a hand to touch the girl's arm as if in understanding. The moment her skin touched the child immortal a filthy oily sensation crept over her. It was all the siren could to do to keep her face smooth. Never in all her centuries in this world had she felt anything such as that.

Just as she moved to respond to the girl Smoke's telepathic voice shot into her mind. "And you... I don't really even know you, so don't you go start thinking you can boss me around just because your some powerful immortal..."

In a mental voice dripping with saccharin Penelope sent her telepathic reply, "I did not realize I had addressed you, one thousand pardons..."

Smoke's telepathic voice began to chatter, but Penelope had already returned her full attention to the child. Letting the intoxicating flows of essence entwine her words the siren spoke to the girl, "I'm so sorry to hear that. Why don't you tell me how you came to be here and we'll get you safely back home."

Iara pressed a finger to her lips at Sarah's answer. Unfortunately the would be unable to study the victims body, but Wilheln was a loner that frequented the casino. She could work with that.

"Alright," Michael responded before she could do so herself, "Well... seems like we have a few things to look into here. First I want to know why this guy became a victim. Then I wanna find out who made him a victim, and finally why it is being covered up. I'd like to check out the victim. Talk to the widow, see if there is anything at the scene that our boys on the force missed. Iara, you'd probably be best at getting information out of the doctor, so perhaps it would be good if we split, can cover more ground before things get cool. Marie... you got something you'd like to sniff out, or would you like to join me? I'll give you a ride on my motorcycle... "

Iara shook her head and then turned to Michael, "While I would hate to interrupt your private time with the lovely Marie, if you are going to meet with the family I would like to come along. The body is with the family and I would like to investigate that myself." She paused to sip her coffee and then continued with a smile, "Besides, the doctor will not be at the casino until tomorrow and I think that the best place to introduce myself to him."

The siren followed Alexander and Smoke out into the street. Before them a little girl in a blue dress knelt before the bast seeing only a tabby cat to play with. A hideous stain marred her forehead and a pair of decaying wings grew from her shoulders, but it was not these anomalies that narrowed Penelope's grey eyes. This little girl was the very immortal she had sensed and within her aura vibrated an impurity that she had only seen on one other. Whoever this girl might be she was deadly dangerous

Penelope moved closer to Alexander as he cast her a sidelong glance muttering. "I don't like this... "

With a quick motion she reached out to grab his arm and drew herself close to him, "That is no little girl," she whispered in Alexander's ear, "She is immortal. Take Smoke inside and let me deal with this," although she spoke in a whisper her tone echoed with severity, "Do not argue with me."

Not giving Alexander a moment to respond she moved away from him and took a step closer to the strange child-immortal. As if sensing her intent Smoke's telepathic voice began to echo in her head, "Whatever you do, don't frighten her..."

Penelope sent no reply and let the white halo of essence surrounding her speak for itself. With a smile on her face she closed the distance between herself and the girl. Kneeling she studied the child briefly, in spite of her dark aura and deformities she seemed as innocent as any child.

"Hello little one," Penelope said with a smile letting the channeled essence wrap itself around her words to lend all she said the power of persuasion. "Where is your mother? You should not be wandering the streets so by yourself."

Okay Penelope's post is up, and she's followed them out the door... something is telling me that wasn't the brightest decision she's ever made.

As to dice, I'm in agreement with Eol. My original understanding was that this was freeform so really I think we should just focus on the story and only use the dice when absolutely necessary.

Penelope took a step closer to the glowing door. A strange presence came to her awareness the closer she came to the ward, a powerful and undying presence. Alexander and the bast moved along her periphery but she paid them little heed, it was the approaching immortal that held her attention.

Ignoring her immediate surroundings the siren began to focus her full attention on the unknown immortal presence. She felt the power of the energy strongly and gasped as it washed over her, something of it was wrong. With a shake of her head Penelope began to concentrate further, probing for some sign.

It was the creaking of the door that pulled her awareness back to the shop. Her grey eyes darted immediately to the doorway to find Alexander and Smoke stepping out.

"I'll be right back," the PI said as he moved past her out the door.

Reaching a hand out to him she called out, "No, wait!"

Her words fell on deaf ears, for as they left her lips both man and bast were already out the door. Penelope shook her head in a mix of fury and concern. Idiots! The thought reverberated through her head as she followed them out the door.

Welcome back Meri!

I've got some questions about Alice too. With Penelope's supernatural senses she should be able to sense Alice's presence if she's within 30 ft of her. She won't know where she is, but she'll definitely feel her presence. How close is Alice to everyone?

On the Mami Fortuna note all is good, we definitely had discussed Alex meeting with some folks in Pilsen. Jut keep in mind that she barely speaks any english (as far as skills I believe she's level one).

You three have been busy, huh?

I have to say I absolutely adore the Stare into the Night artwork. It's fantastic Eol! and so it the Characters thread idea, just keeps everything all in one place - nice and orderly.

As to the incoming Alice, let's just go with it. That might be just what they all need to really start to bind together, you know? I figured Penelope would have noticed the glowing, they are both in the same room and the ward is glowing brightly. At this point she's more curious than anything.

I'm most definitely looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

Penelope lounged in the chair across from Alexander with a languid grace listening to his recitation. She was not familiar with the passage, but it did remind her much of the medieval Europe's fear of Azazel. Despite the Christian interpretation she felt at the core of her being that something of those words held the seed of truth. Whatever the desires of the demonic-god might be Penelope was certain it would include visiting his wrath onto the earth and the creatures of it.

At the mention of the lesser Azazelites Penelope pressed a finger to her lips and cocked her head to the side. If the Azazelite pawns had knowledge of the cult's hierarchy then they would have to find one, there were too many possibilities not to explore. Her greatest strength lay in the art of enchantment and manipulation, and it would take little effort for her to loosen their lips. With magic and the right words any one of them would do anything she asked. Penelope fingered her hair and smiled as the workings of a plan began to take form.

"So, Penelope," Alexander said interrupting her reverie, "when might be a good time for me to swing by your place and have a look around?"

Focusing her gaze on him Penelope nodded and answered, "Today or tomorrow, it matters not when." She paused a moment to bite her lip in thought and then exhaled softly, "I live in Pilsen, there is an old homeless women who frequents the neighborhood. She is a seer, and despite her fear is quite powerful. Perhaps we might be able to convince her to help us learn more of these Azazelites?"

Just as the words left her lips the masking taped made symbol that the girl Rosie had drawn on the door began to glow with an eerie red light. With narrowed grey eyes Penelope turned to face the glowing symbol. She had seen no sign that the girl had woven a spell as laid the symbol on the door, and now even so it pulsed with a bright light.

The siren stood up from the table to regard the glowing symbol and whispered, "¿Qué es eso?"

Notes

Mami Fortuna is the wise crone, one of the Old Ones from before the before. The forgotten powers of a time so long ago even the memory of it has been forgotten. Yet she, remains, the haggard crone and divine oracle. Living on the fringes of society she makes her way in the world, never becoming directly involved. To most that see her, Mami Fortuna is no more than a crazy woman cast down to a life on the streets. They could not be more wrong. Even Immortals and the Gifted alike cannot see her true nature, for the Old Ones hide themselves. The old gods walk hidden among us.
