Subject: Soronuume

Soronuume watched carefully as the dragon twitched in the throngs of death. She waited as the flame haired woman looked for any signs of life before releasing the storm. The tempest went from her leaving the wood elf spent and ecstatic. Calm returned to her and she began to breathe with a sedate rhythm.

"Thank you both all the magic support, couldn’t have done it without all of us doing our what we could. That lightning helped too. We did pretty well, all considering.”

Soronuume returned the other woman's smile, "I am glad to have been able to help."

Turning to face the charred tree her gaze fell on the dark elf, and she watched as the woman tenderly cared for the dragonettes. The wood elf nodded, with the miniature dragons being taken care of she could give aid to the burnt tree.

Soronuume walked up to the great oak and placed her hands on its trunk. She leaned in close to the tree as she closed her eyes and whispered softly.

Seluumiel stared at the book reading its words over and over again.

All others have failed and I was the last. My spirit is bound here for my time is past.

The words echoed in her head. This house left her with a feeling of unease and she was becoming increasingly sure that something greater was at hand. Book, map, and archway only heightened her sureness. Her eyes narrowed as the book began to print itself, this tome knew they were here. Divinations had detected enchantments in the book but not the apparent intelligence that seemed trapped within.

Sehanine kalye amin.

She repeated the prayer for guidance to herself, again and again.

Warm breath on her neck pulled Seluumiel from her reverie. The moon elf looked to see Xavier standing behind her, sapphire eyes meeting red eyes. He was a peculiar man to say the least, and she was not sure what to make of him.

The pale man addressed the group,"Well, I think this may be a map of the house... as cryptic as it may seem, but I believe that the magical nature of this house is perfectly recorded on this map... And while I've some suspicions about the book, I'll let Selummiel share her opinion first. I don't want to steal the whole spotlight."

He winked at her and moved to take the map from her. She let him, her own talents were better geared toward deciphering the mystery of the book in her hands. She moved away from Xavier and returned her gaze to the book.

"All others have failed and I was the last. My spirit is bound here for my time is past. Unspeakable evil lies behind each door. Take care you don’t end up like others before. Five colors, five heads is all I know of your fate. If you must know more, ask the guardian of the gate. To what I have written you must take heed and I will record your actions, your words and your deeds. For in you must go. There’s no way to turn back. Defeat your greatest foe before he attacks. Are such adventurers present and ready to undertake this task?" Seluumiel read aloud from the book.

She took a few steps back towards Xavier. Seluumiel looked up from the book to gaze at Chiron, Satya, and finally Xavier.

"It is apparent that both the book and map are inextricably tied to this house, and likely that glowing archway. Whether or not the map is of the house or not is moot until we know these words can be trusted. This house has been twisting our perceptions from the moment we set eyes on it. Let us divine what can be trusted before we make any decisions."

She returned her gaze to the open book in her hands. Intently studying the scribed words she balanced the book in one hand. Dexterous fingers spun threads of magic together as esoteric words escaped her lips focusing the weave into the book. It was unlikely that the spell we reveal anything new, but she had to be sure.

(OOC: 1 MP casts Identify on the Book of Unwritten Chronicles. She will make a knowledge check for arcana, history, and religion. Gboy, just an FYI Seluumiel picked up the book and map from the table and took them with her earlier so Xavier would b taking the map from her.)

Seluumiel peered into the room and stared icily at the glowing archway. Lacey was no where in sight, the fool woman must have gone through the archway. She shook her head and took a deep breath before studying the archway. It was a strange thing, but everything in this place was strange. Seluumiel turned to face the others.

With a grim look on his face, the paladin faced her, "Can you decipher the items Satya found on the desk? Xavier, if you have any talents dealing with magical or ancient texts, could you lend her a hand? I don't think any one of us should be left alone while we're in here. While I do believe Lacey stepped into that portal on her own, we can't rule out the possibility that something forced her through."

She looked up to him for a moment, the man certainly enjoyed taking the lead. Regardless she was of a like mind with him for now, moving forward without further knowledge could prove fatal. If Lacey wished to walk blindly she could manage that well enough on her own. Producing the tome and map from her bag, Seluumiel began to seek a place to make further study of them.

Chiron spoke again. "Satya, can you help me with these other two doors? I'm not sure what I'm more curious about: the contents of the rooms, or what the house will do if all four doors are open at the same time. If there are more of these glowing arches, I recommend not looking directly into them."

She stopped where she was and turned to face the man.

"Wait," she began, "While Lacey has decided to throw her life away and walk blindly on her own, the rest of us must stay together. Chiron both you and I have sensed the hostile presence others in this house. I fear that searching through these doors will only hasten a confrontation. Let me see what can be gleaned from this book and map before we investigate this house any further."

Seluumiel looks to Chiron and the others before bringing her gaze to the map and book. Her sapphire eyes trace the runes, shapes, and lines intent on puzzling their meaning.

(OOC: Seluumiel will read the book and study the map. She will cast Comrehend Languages, and Read Magic if she does not read the language or if the writing is magical.)

As the magical weave rested over the objects on the table an aura of magic came into Seluumiel's awareness. She reached out to make further study of the objects but stopped as she saw Lacey open one of the doors and enter. Seluumiel stared at the door incredulously and shook her head. The half elf had plainly ignored everything she had told them. Did she have no regard for her own life or the lives of those she was with? Seluumiel hissed in vexation as she placed both the book and map in her bag. She would have to study them later to unlock any mysteries they might hold and lacking that knowledge here might well prove dangerous.

Seluumiel steps away from the table and looks to the others. Lacey had left them little choice but to follow, whatever minds her divination had detected would certainly be roused by the half elf's actions.

"Unfortunately Lacey has decided to take matters in her own hands. You are right Xavier we will have to follow her, though she seems determined to throw her life away," Seluumiel takes a step to join the pale man and stops looking to Chiron. "But first we should find some way to keep that door from closing."

Subject: In Dreams

Ula sat while the others continued with their mid day meal, the few berries she had eaten in the morning would be enough to sustain her for a time. The young dragon had certainly offered much to think over. Dryads were the fey spirits of the trees, more deeply connected to the forests and wild places than even her people. She could not believe them creatures of evil, true they were capricious but not evil. Fey folk had little interest in bones and burials, it did not make sense that they would seek to destroy burial grounds. Ula sighed, they were all heading in search of that very burial ground and that worried her.

Bones held great power, mortals had found a way to unlock that power. Her own power was deeply connected to the land and the dream but she had lived long and seen much through the ages. She remembered well the forgotten ancient world, the primal tribes that had existed then were well versed in the magics of spirit and death. They had excarnated their dead, letting the wild strip their bodies to the bone. In those days skulls of the dead were kept and she remembered temples built entirely from bone. Tribal shamans had wielded great power by channeling the spirit world through the bones of their ancestors. The skulls of the most powerful shamans were kept in sacred groves allowing their people to seek the wisdom and aid of the elders even after they had passed. Death magic had once been a deeply spiritual path, but much had changed since those early days. Necromancy had been twisted into a dark art that even the most ancient of beings feared. Spirits and powers once wild and free could be commanded with bones.

Ula looked to her side and to the goblin staff that lay there. She had not felt the call of the dream since her hand first touched it. Through it she felt something else, a thing she did not know. The skull gave her a sense of unease and she began to wonder who it had belonged to. A constant feeling of being watched had troubled her through the day, and she had felt a presence even as the dragon was before them. She felt the watchers now, growing stronger and seeming to reach out for her.

Sister. A chorus of female voices, seductive and cool, echoed in her head. Sister. Again the seductive choir called to her. Join us sister Ula felt the voices deep within her being, they caressed her body and sung to her. Drawn into their call she closed her eyes and listened to the songs. Sister. Again. Join us. Dance with us. Again. Dance with us Sister. She began to sway to their song and trembled in their embrace.Take their spirits. Another voice, dark and insidious sang over the wild choir. It sang into her, dark and seductive, embracing her in awesome power. Ula opened her eyes, Petraak sat closest to her. Grasping the skulled staff she leaned over to him, just a touch of the lips and she could wrap the spirit in the dream world. Just a touch. The faery opened herself to the dream world and stepped into it. She did not walk fully and wholly into the dream but rather straddled both worlds, a part of both and neither. Ula began to fade, becoming ethereal like a dream but still as solid as the waking world.

As she moved within both worlds something in the dream caught her eye. A thick darkness covered the dream. It emanated from a blackened human skull near her hand, a blackened human skull very like the one atop the goblin staff. Ula narrowed her eyes forgetting the call of the voices. She focused her gaze on the skull. The dream world was a mirror of the waking world, but beyond the land what existed in one did not exist in the other. That skull should not have followed her into the dream. Something was not right. The darkness began to swirl around her, a foul black tempest trying to consume her wholly. Yet in that moment something else held on, small and subversive but always there. It was the dream and in its subtle embrace part her still remained. Ula reached out with all that she was grasping for the dream world. Moments passed like eternity, but slowly the swirling darkness receded back into the skull and the insidious voices fell silent. The dark power that had grasped at her being let go. Ula breathed heavily and shook her head in dismay. She had nearly attacked her companions, something was sapping her will.

The fey looked through the dreamscape frantically searching for some sign of the source of that power. Her eyes fell on the skull that still remained in the dream and the skeletal figure that now stood there. Those in the waking world would not see this creature. Tall and ominous the skeletal apparition moved forward stepping closer too her. She stilled herself, fighting off the darkness had weakened her greatly - too greatly to fight off this creature. It's power was palpable like the darkness that had been there before. Ula took a deep breath and opened the dream world enfolding some part of her companions in its embrace. She hoped it would be enough. The skeleton knelt to pick up the blackened skull and laughed in screeching voice.

"The dryads fought my power too, but they now serve me as you will. You fey are more spirit than flesh, and bound with bones spirits can be commanded," the creature moved closer with hollow eye sockets that seemed to bore into all they viewed. "My own skull will bind you to me."

With a shrill scream the dread being launched itself at her. Boney fingers grasped her neck and she felt the weight of that skull on her chest. Help me Ula called through the dream to her companions, hoping they heard her, hoping they saw. Darkness poured into her and she screamed.

Still holding the storm Soronuume watched closely as the juvenile red moved away from the charred tree. The wood elf took a breath and made her way to the tree, if any forest denizen lay wounded within she would give what aid she could. Nearing the tree she looks up to cloud filled skies and calls down a third lightning bolt. The blue white electricity streaks down from the sky hurtling towards the dragon.

As the lighting crackles in the air Soronuume slows her advance. With amber eyes she studies the surface of the charred oak searching for some sign of life.

Subject: Thoughts and Presence

Mental presences and their thoughts flooded into her awareness as Seluumiel concentrated on her divination. First the minds of the four others in the room came to her, then the awareness grew showing her many more minds hidden in the phantom house. The hidden minds were mainly stupid, but they were hostile and they seemed to be aware of their presence. She could not say where they came from and hidden among them was a mind of great power whose thoughts remained hidden from her spell. That worried her.

Seluumiel maintained her repose of serenity as she returned to the doorway and the two men that stood there. She looked from Chiron to Xavier for a moment before taking a step closer.

"My divinations have revealed the presence of those hostile to us. I cannot say exactly where they are, only that they are near and are aware of our presence. That is all I can say for now, I do not want to reveal our awareness of them to them." Seluumiel speaks in a low whisper just loud enough for the men to here.

The moon elf watches the men for a moment before moving to the table and the women. She looks to Lacey and Satya for a moment before telling them in a whisper what she relayed to the men. As if she had said nothing Seluumiel begins to study the map and book, taking care not to touch them. The tome and map might well provide an insight into this phantom house and that knowledge was urgent, hostile minds or no. Seluumiel broke her study of map and book to look up at Satya.

"Tell me Satya, have you touched either map or book? Perhaps opened the tome and leafed through it's pages?"

Seluumiel returned her gaze to the objects on the table as she made her inquiry. She continued her focus on the map and book, her sapphire eyes tracing their markings. The elf made a quick gesture and spoke a word of power as she pulled the magical weave over the objects.

Subject: Ula Siddha

Ula sat on the forest floor looking up into the trees. Leaves and branches seemed to interlace among one another forming an organic lattice. She breathed deeply the night air and sighed. They had not been long in this wood before meeting with some of its more hostile denizens. It worried her greatly. She was fey, a creature of the wild herself and alone she would be able to pass through any woodland unnoticed by all but the trees. Ula was not alone, she looked down from the skies to gaze at her companions. If they were to travel together she would have to learn to be more wary of the wild places, a thing she was not accustomed to.

The strumming of a guitar pulled her attention to Jonathan, the young human bard. She smiled at him reassuringly, the boy had shone her some measure of attention back at the inn and she had decided to entertain his affections for a time. That would offer her some amusement, a thing no faery could deny herself. He stopped strumming abruptly and addressed the dragonborn knight.

"What happened to that staff, Petraak? It seemed to inspire something in the goblins, whether it was fear or courage. And if I'm not mistaken it was very magical. I think we should hold on to it, for our own benefit, you know. Show it to some goblins that want to attack us. They'll think twice if they see that we killed some of their brethern."

She watched him as they spoke and shook her head. Hobgoblins were a violent breed and combined with their usual stupidity they could easily incite themselves into a frenzy. If that skulled staff belonged to any of their number the sight of it would likely send them into a bloodthirsty fury.

"The sight of that staff might well send the mongrels into a violent rage rather than deterring them," Ula interjected in a cool seductive voice. "But I agree, we should hold onto it. Perhaps it can provide us with some information."

She watched the two men for a moment waiting for a response, but from the corner of her eye she noticed the gnome, Iwik, scurrying about. He was an odd little creature and she cocked her head from side to side to watch him with curious eyes. After a time she returned her gaze to the others studying each of their faces.

Seluumiel moves toward the house, but seeing Lacey hold back she stops. The elf turns to face the priestess and stares at her for a moment.

"I wholly understand your reticence, but we must not separate. I fear whatever charms this place has will be worsened should that occur. I see no other recourse but to move forward. Let us join the men."

Seluumiel waits a moment before turning and making her way to the phantom building. She moves slowly, carefully watching each step. The moisture from the fog clings to her as she moves through it causing her clothes to stick to her skin and her long hair to gather in shining silver ringlets. She sighs in irritation as she reaches the door. It would be a simple matter to fix but now was not a time too squander magic frivolously.

Taking a step in the doorway she stops dead at the sight of the exotic human standing inside. The woman was pretty for a human with an accent she could not place. Seluumiel held her calm and gazed at the woman with a cold impenetrable serenity. Whomever she was her mind had not revealed itself to her divinations. Perhaps it was a trick of the house that hid her from the spell, but the elf could not be sure and what she was not sure of here she would not trust. Was the woman herself an apparition of the house? There were ways to discover that. Let the men drool over a pretty face, she would trust in what the Lunar Lady revealed to her. Steeling herself she stepped into the house and faced the woman.

"I see you have met my companions," she began "I am called Seluumiel."

She introduced herself without the ceremony that was customary for her people, but there were things she must discover before revealing title and family name. Seluumiel stepped further into the house and turned away from the woman as if to study the walls and doors. In that moment she opened herself to the goddess and touched the magical weave. Hiding her gestures and whispering her words Seluumiel cast her spell. As the magical awareness washed over her the elf turned to face the stranger that called herself Satya.

"Perhaps we all can find this child together."

She spoke slowly while holding concentration and the spell. Her mind reached out to probe for thoughts, both from this woman and any others that may well have hidden in this house.

(OOC: 2 MP casts Detect Thoughts again. Centered on the house. She will concentrate for three rounds. Seluumiel is trying to hide her casting.)

Seluumiel stared into the fog, her sapphire eyes studying it intently. With the divine power of the Daughter of the Night Sky flowing through her she reached out into the strange fog and the phantom house. Her mind probed the area seeking thoughts, the presence of another mind. She found none. The moon elf released the spell letting the magic return to its source. Seluumiel narrowed her eyes and continued to study the enigma.

"What dost thy divinations portend?" Lacey inquired.

Seluumiel looked over to the other woman and shook her head. No thinking minds had revealed themselves to her, but she did not trust that there were not other snares hidden beyond.

"Neither thoughts nor minds have been revealed to me," Seluumiel answered. "Though neither hide within the fog nor house other dangers may yet lurk there. We should move together and take great care with each step."

She leaned lightly against her staff waiting for the others to respond.

Keeping her distance from the gnomes smokey explosion Ula turned from the writhing vines letting them ensnare their next prey. Her eyes met a trio of hobgoblins rushing towards her. At the sight of the fey they stopped and growled. Pulling dark blades from their pockets the three made their approach to her slowly each grinning and bearing their yellow fangs. She narrowed her eyes at the sight of the dark metal, cold forged iron. Goblinkind hated and feared the fey folk and most carried weapons of cold forged iron. The three made their way closer smiling with bloodlust as they realized she was unarmed. Fools. Though she carried no weapons she was not without defenses.

Ula stared at the three for a moment and smiled. She opened herself to the dream letting its siren song wash over her. Within its rhythms she felt its call and longed to follow, but she did not. Stilling herself she reached into the darkest depths of the dreamworld and spun a nightmare into the minds of the hobgoblins. The trio stared at her for a moment as their eyes went black and the fear overtook them. They began to scream and thrash their blades about. As steel and iron bit into goblin flesh the hobgoblins trashed with heightened fury. Ula stood back and watched the creatures kill one another for a moment before returning her attentions to the knells of battle. If three of the beast had carried weapons of cold forged iron it was likely that more did and she would not be caught unaware. That metal would not touch her again.

Seluumiel stepped up to stand next to Lacey. Standing in silence next to the half elf she studies the mist shrouded house. The glow of magic filtered through the thick fog greatly obscuring any sights that lay before them. Seeing the path leading from the house Seluumiel hissed in vexation and muttered quietly to herself in her native tongue. The more she saw of the phantom house the more certain she became of an intelligent origin. Narrowing her eyes the moon elf concentrated on the house for another moment before turning to face Lacey and the others.

"Lacey speaks truth," Seluumiel began ,"But before we approach let us see if we can pierce the fog and find what may be obfuscated within. I do not relish the thought of stumbling unaware into adversary. Give me a moment to see what I can divine."

Not waiting for a response she returns her gaze to the house and fog. She opened herself to the power of Sehanine Moonbow and the goddess filled her. With divine power rushing through her she reached out to touch the weave of magic that encircled Toril. It met her touch, as much apart of her as the blood in her veins it moved to meet her every gesture.

"Arwen en kaimelar amin yela lle. Sila no' manni na' il elea."

Her intoned words blended prayer and spell as her body blended the divine and the arcane. Seluumiel breathed deeply staring into the fog and waited for her divination to take hold.

I don't want to start any trouble here. If the general consensus is to pm character thoughts I'll do it, but I find it much more interesting if everything is included in the game thread. What makes play by post interesting (to me anyway) is the ability to create a story, and seeing into a characters mind is a large part of what makes that story. I don't think characters having thoughts about one another in game is a bad thing at all, it adds flavor to the game.
Just my two cents.

Ula moved through the wood leaving the forest floor undisturbed, no trail marked her passage. She followed the fledgling group of companions through the Felwood in search of temple forgotten to the wild. The faery smiled to herself as she recounted what had passed at the inn.

Xanaras had sent them on this quest with promises of treasure and glory, but Ula had little interest in treasure and glory. The fey folk did what they did for their own reasons and those that sought their aid payed a high price, so high that few sought their aid. Xanaras had called for her help and she had answered, the price he would pay would be high indeed.

Ula continued through the woodland in silence concentrating on each step. The dream called to her, a sweet song of the beyond and unknown. Part of her yearned to follow its call, but not yet, she was not ready to leave. Few of the fey folk remained in the world of men. The dream called to them and they followed beyond the boundaries of the mortal world never to return. Soon the dream's call would be to great to deny, but for now she held it at bay. Ula hoped it would last.

Snapping twigs and growls broke her from the dream song and her eyes shot forward to the source. She growled lowly, hobgoblins and worgs were unnatural abominations of the land. Her spirit reached out sinking deep into the forest floor. Thoughts and images spun into the ground caressing the dormant life within and calling it forth.

Thick roots and vines shot up from the earth wrapping themselves tightly around a large hobgoblin. The writhing plants tightened around the creature holding it in constriction. Soon bones began to snap with audible cracks as the beast gurgled its last breath.
