Seluumiel looked around to the others, all were present and all had what was needed. The moon elf nodded to her companions and then to Tannif.

"If we are all ready then let us be off."

Soronuume rode on through the tunnel of light with Xu at her back. The mists swirled around her obscuring even her keen vision, but she rode on. Following the silhouettes of her newfound companions the elven druid made her way through the fog to emerge atop a sunlit hill. Blinking her eyes as the adjusted to the new bright lights she took in all that was around her. That they were far from where they had been was certain, but she remained wholly unaware of where it was they stood now. Instinctively she sought out the rhythms of this new land trying to make sense of what untouched wild place they had ridden into.

Letting Thunderclap move forward a few paces she focused her attentions on the land before her. Soronuume let her gaze move over the valley and the trees. That it was wild and unknown to her was apparent, but this was no alien landscape. The trees were trees, the sky was sky, and the earth was earth. In time she would learn more of this place, but for now the knowledge that the laws of nature still applied would have to be sufficient.

Soronuume listened quietly as her companions discusses this new place and finally breathing deeply she turned to face them.

"I agree that making camping is needed, but let us stay near to this hill. As Flame said people are far from here. I say we make camp and let those of us who can try and divine the nature of where we are and what just happened. My power comes from the land, Alexandria and Devon both draw theirs from other sources - between the three of us we should be able to answer at least some of our questions."

That's all good by me, I actually was assuming Sonia was answering me orally (sorry for specifying that in my previous post). And Gboy, of course we're enjoying the game it's progressing most lovely.

DM, didn't realize you had posted when I put that up, we must have been posting simultaneously. Regardless I will specify telepathic communication more clearly in future posts, would black text work?

So I recall reading in your house rules that clerics/druids can pray for a spell they do not have prepared and cast it spontaneously. I believe I read this on the first page of your recruitment. Let me know if this is the case.

I'll be sending you a new spells prep'd list regardless.

Thanks!

Okay so as far as I understand the Dominate Person spell creates and telepathic bond between caster and thrall. Commands can be sent (and usually are) telepathically over any distance. (correct me if I'm wrong)

All of Selunine's commands to Sonia have been telepathic rather than spoken, which would mean that only Sonia and Selunine have been privy to Selunine's questions. I've italicized for this reason. Now if I didn't communicate that clearly in my posts let me know and I'll be sure to rectify that in future posts.

That being said I think it's safe to say that Trillion has been around Selunine long enough to develop suspicions that Selunine is keeping secrets. She just wouldn't have known exactly what Selunine just asked...

I'm just nit picking a bit (I need a hobby).

Yes, I will come back... NOT! My mind is not weak as you think, Selunine Lhianna'anei.

The childish voice echoed in the wind mocking her. Selunine simple stared ahead for a moment. The child somehow knew her name and that worried her more than Nino's resistance to her charms.

"She resisted the compulsion," the enchantress spoke in a voice that was all but a whisper. "I fear we must follow her."

Slowly shock and worry began to fade away melting into a cold fury. Her violet eyes narrowed and she turned to face Sonia. Rage radiated out from Selunine and her gaze seemed to bore straight through the tattooed woman. She did not reach across the telepathic bond with her usual seductive caress, no this time she reached out with wrathful command.

What manner of being did you spawn that this Nino is so resistant to my charms? What is she capable of? What is she?

Selunine's telepathic voice echoed in Sonia's mind, and the fey watched her awaiting response. Then something shifted in her eyes, like a sudden awareness. Nino had known her name, did the child and these people know what she was? The faery shook her head slightly at the thought, her people had been kept secret for time beyond knowing if there were those in this land that knew of them...

Selunine's glare intensified and she stepped closer to Sonia. Before the witch could answer the fey's first question Selunine reached out again across their telepathic bond.

Your daughter knows my name. Do you and your ilk have knowledge of what I am? If you do you will respond as follows 'I have walked through the mist on sand among the ivory towers.' Now answer me.

The wood elf nodded her head in acceptance. She had given her word to aid her companions on their quest of ridding the worlds of this Dark One. Her lover had died many years past and it had been so long since she walked on Evermeet that it no longer felt like home to her. Over the passage of years she had become truly nomadic, and there was little left in this world to tie her to it now. Soronuume looked to Brianna and nodded again.

"I have given my word to aid you all on this quest and I will not abandon it now. I will follow wherever this light leads us."

As she moved her mount forward her mind reached out to Xu. She had given her word, but the panther had done no such thing. If Xu joined them onward into this light it would be of her own volition. The cat answered her silent question by stepping up next to elf and mount. She would join them.

Soronuume smiled at her old friend and gripped the reigns before her. Holding up her left hand the elf spoke a word of power and dancing flames sprung up around her hand. She knew not what was beyond the mists, but she would not go on like a defenseless babe. With flames wreathing her hand she gestured forward and without further hesitation druid and panther moved through the tunnel of mist towards the light.

(OOC: Cast Produce Flame 1 MP - sorry just noticed I left that out.)

Subject: Familiarity

I don't disagree that Nino is not well known to Selunine, but I would say she is familiar enough for the purposes of the spell.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Selunine has met Nino, they didn't just pass one another on the street. Selunine was in her presence for a decent amount of time. During that time she saw some of what the girl is capable of and also hit her with two of her own spells. All this happened very recently, it's not like years have passed.
From Sonia she has also acquired a bit of knowledge about the girl. Not to mention that she has Nino's mother under her dominate person spell.
Nino is more than just a name to Selunine - I would say she is familiar to her.

A note on familiar; the general use of the word denotes general not indepth knowledge and that is evidenced by the first line of the definition you provided.

Familiar:
1. commonly or generally known or seen: a familiar sight.
2. well-acquainted; thoroughly conversant: to be familiar with a subject.
3. informal; easygoing; unceremonious; unconstrained: to write in a familiar style.
4. closely intimate or personal: a familiar friend; to be on familiar terms.
5. unduly intimate; too personal; taking liberties; presuming: The duchess disliked familiar servants.

But let me know regardless.

Ademendum:
I just read this over and I think that came across a bit more pissy poo poo than intended. I had Selunine cast the spell because I felt she was sufficiently familiar with Nino. That being said I won't have a conniption fit if you ultimately decide otherwise.

Soronuume watched as the vortex of swirling mists formed into a long tunnel of for. Glowing lights at the far end of the tunnel revealed themselves and the wood elf tightened her grip on Thunderbolt's reigns.

Suddenly the quiet dragonettes stirred and began yelling about returning home. She moved to question them but they were already air born before words escaped her lips. They fluttered a distance in front of the group, seeming to wait for all to follow.

Soronuume turned to Brianna and Lorae, "Do they speak truth? Is this the portal back to your world."

Seluumiel listened to Xavier's comment and smirked. The moon elf laid a hand on the sword hilt and addressed him in a cool tone.

"It is but a last resort. All on Evermeet are trained in the use of sword and bow. Although my skills lie elsewhere if need be I can and will raise this blade."

She waited a moment before returning to wait silently for the others. As Chiron and Xavier began to speak of wands and healing Seluumiel stepped forward.

"We will have no lack of healing. I can readily call the power of The Daughter of the Night Skies and I carry the wand of healing Ardulace left behind. Another wand would aid us well, but perhaps we should conserve some funds should other needs arise."

Selunine listened to Sonia shaking her head in disgust. The witch had been prepared to sacrifice her own child. This woman, this Linus, whoever these people were they would be stopped. Once the child was neutralized she and the witch were going to have a long conversation. If there was anything more to know she would discover it.

The fey placed a hand beneath Sonia's chin and lifted her face up,"Thank you my pet, that will be all for now." Smiling Selunine spoke in silky tones,"You have been very good. Continue and I shall buy you a delicious treat when we reach a city."

Selunine turned from the woman and sighed again. What waited for them at this shrine? Her combative magicks though not gone were certainly depleted and she had no desire to face what lay in a shrine to the scaly ones without her full strength. Perhaps there was a way to stop the child from reaching the shrine.

They fey turned to Trillion, "I am going to try to call the child back here. It would be best that none raise the shrine at all. Ready yourself and the others, should I succeed I doubt she will return preaching peace."

With that Selunine readied yet another compulsion. Her violet eyes began to glow as she raised the magical energies. She began to chant softly with subtle gestures. Her eyes took on a distant gaze and she began to speak in a seductive voice echoing with power.

"Nino, child your mother misses you. You should come back to the house and see her. After all you cannot complete your mission without her."

Subject: Questions and items

Selunine stood with her companions before the disrobed Sonia. The fey picked up the glittering chained shirt. Her journey in this mortal world was growing increasingly treacherous and mage armor would serve her well. Selunine loosened the gossamer folds of her robe to let the top fall to her waist. She pulled the chain shirt over her head and smoothed it against her skin before pulling the top of her robes back in place. Picking up the headband she placed it in one of her belt's magic pouches, she wore such a headband herself but the strengths of enchantments varied and she would not know which was stronger without some study.

The enchantress looked to her companions and gestured to the remaining items on the ground, "Take what will serve you best, but do so quickly. The child still goes free."

Sonia stepped forward gazing vacantly at Selunine,"Those are all of my magical possessions, and I bear no arms with me. However, as you requested, here is my spellbook."

The witch produced a thick book, with fine bindings, and gold patterns along the cover and spine. Selunine thumbed through the woman's spellbook and finding it nearly full placed it in one of the magical pouches in her belt. It would remain there for now, but given time she would access all its secrets.

Achilles took that moment to shout for ale and demand that she ask for that and other frivolities from the witch. Hot rage boiled inside her and she nearly rounded on the mortal man but let Mora deal with him. There were more important manners to attend to than giving lessons in manners.

The fey sighed and returned her attention to her thrall. Sonia stepped forward taking out a odd shaped item and gave it to Selunine. "And this mistress. This is the key. Take it. It will help you find my daughter."

The woman giggled, magical overload seeming to affect her now, and responded to Selunine's last set of questions. "Nino was going to the isle of the ancients to try and bring back the ancients of course. The dragons are supposed to walk this land again, just like Linus said. He is going to control them and use their evil ferocity to control the world, and I'm going to be his queen. Nino has all the necessary components to complete the summoning ritual, except for one."

"And the one she is missing, is Ninian. That's why I was here to get her, Ninian is a crucial part of the summoning, and so we need her. She knows that too, since she already ran away from us once."

"Does my mistress require anything else of me?"

Selunine shook her head. Arianna's prediction was coming to pass. These fools sought use the Shrine of the Ancients to return the dragons to the world. The dragons would raze the entire continent and that would not be all that would find its way into the world from that forsaken temple. The temple priests had traveled the planes causing dimensional rifts, countless outsiders would enter this world should the shrine be as it once was. There was no other recourse but to do what they must to stop this.

Beside her Trillion spoke up in a calm tone,"Selunine, I would recommend you have her drop all active spells she has on herself."

The only nodded in response before sending the telepathic command.Any magicks you have cast on yourself you shall now release. You will however hold onto to any whose release would cause us harm, those you will let dissipate on their own. Waiting for the woman's response Selunine fingered the odd key in her hands. The witch said it would help her find Nino. Holding the object up before Sonia she again sent commands into the woman's mind. You say this will help me find your daughter. You will tell me how. Conceal nothing.

Trillion spoke up again, "What's next? Did she say where the girl is headed?"

Selunine regarded her friend a moment before responding, "The girl is going to raise the Shrine of the Ancients off the coast of Badon. For now I am gathering what information I can to head her off at the pass. We do know that she cannot raise it without Ninian."

The wizened crone behind the counter stared at Seluumiel for a moment before answering in a dry voice cracked with age, "Why no my lady, we do not carry such an item. Times of war hamper trade a bit, they do. Might I be able to interest you in something else?"

The moon elf smiled at the woman and nodded. She had expected as much. Even on Evermeet the power to pierce the veil of time was rare, more could not be expected of a small human city. Seluumiel sighed to herself, though she had expected this she had hoped. For now they would have to rely on what divinations she could call unaided. Resigning herself to what was the priestess thanked the shop keeper and purchased a few small pearls.

Seluumiel returned to the busy streets and made her way to a nearby shop, a weapon smith. Though her staff was a useful tool on this journey a sword would serve her better. She had no love of blades but should the need arise any elf, even a priestess, would raise a blade.

The interior of the shop was littered with weapons and the heat of the smithy beyond the entry room was apparent. Hearing her entrance a large dark skinned man just into his middle years ducked into the room. His eyes widened some at her request for a sword, but he nonetheless brought out several for her to choose from.

The moon elf's eyes fell on one sword in particuler. It was of elven make, and though simple in design it was masterfully wrought. Seluumiel gripped the moonstone hilt and unsheathed the blade. The steel was well polished and the elvish script was etched into the blade. Seluumiel returned the blade to its grey scabbard and immediately purchased it. If she had to wield a sword it would be this one. Fastening sword and scabbard to her side the priestess departed the shop leaving the man with coins for the sword and her old staff - he could do with it what he would.

Seluumiel quickly waded through the bazaar crowds and returned to the square where Tannif had dropped them off. Chiron was there already along with Xavier and his sister. The moon elf greeted each in turn and stood aside awaiting the return of the others.

The witch jerks her head up, an empty look in her eyes. She stares at Selunine.

"My mistress, the child is my daughter. She is named Nino. She is going to the shrine of the ancients. It was submerged, but she has a tool to raise it. You can stop her by killing her, or removing the tool. Those are the only ways I know. My daughter would not betray me. She will not surrender."

She then lolls her head to the side, a smile on her face, looking at Selunine, waiting for the next set of questions.

The enchantress listened as her thrall spoke. Selunine narrowed her eyes at the mention on the Shrine of Ancients, something of that name struck her as familiar and she began to search her mind. From the corner of her eye she caught notice of Ninian, the woman had returned to her docile nature and she looked terrified.

"No... no, not the shrine of the ancients... that could only mean...no..." Ninian speaks to herself shaking her head.

As Selunine moved to aid her, Achilles came bounding up with a very violent suggestion. The fey sighed, she was growing tired of deflecting attacks. Did they not see what they could gain from the witch if she lived?

She turned to face the man and spoke plainly, "No, that will not be needed, nor is it desired."

Yet Selunine did consider his words, a thrall could not wholly be trusted and there were needed precautions should the charm break. She would have to disarm the woman as best she could. Once again the enchantress reached out across the telepathic bond. Before we make our way to Nino all weapons, items of power, and items of magic that you have you will remove from your person. You will not use any of them, and you will lay them all on the ground. You will tell me what each is and what it does. You will be truthful. If you carry a spell book you will give it to me. Selunine then stepped back and watched the witch comply with her demands.

As the tattooed woman began to lay out her arsenal in detail Trillion touched down next to Selunine. The winged elf told her of the failed pursuit of the child, Nino had vanished into the shadows of the trees.

Selunine reached out a hand to touch the other woman's arm, "Fear not my friend we will find her and stop her, we will. We know where she is going, and soon we will know what she intends."

Turning from her friend she faced Sonia sending yet more commands into the witch's mind. You will tell us why Nino is going to the Shrine of the Ancients. And you will tell us why you came for Ninian. Selunine held tight to the bond as she continued to stare at the woman with glowing violet eyes.

((OOC: Sorry, meant to make note of this earlier. Selunine is making a knowledge check in regards to the Shrine of the Ancients.))

Falas, I don't think Achilles would be able to hear the conversation/interaction between Selunine, Ninian. and Sophia - nor vice versa. He's quite a good distance from them and between the alchemist fire and the ice storm it's not exactly quiet.

Seluumiel watched the governor's manse fade to white. She found herself standing at the center of a bazaar bustling with customers and merchants alike. Like her companions she spoke with Tannif of directions before making her way into the busy market.

The moon priestess glided through the streets ignoring the curious stares of men and children at the sight of the white clad she elf. Precious few of The People made their way into Unther, or any of the Old Kingdoms. She sighed, the elves had once thrived in Faerun and now they were scarce to be found out of Evermeet. Was the twilight of the elves upon them?

Seluumiel continued in silence until she reached her first stop, the magic shoppe. Walking in Seluumiel was assaulted by the smells of incense and rare herbs. An thin aged woman sat behind the counter with a steel bun wrapped tightly atop her head. Seluumiel smiled at the woman and stepped up to the counter.

"Greetings, I am in the employ of Governor Bailash Castor to investigate matters of the phantom house beyond the city. We require some items of magical power to delve the issue further."

"Among my people there are divinations that pierce the veil of time, allowing the seer to learn what was and what might have been. I believe in the common tongue it is called Legend Lore. Have you such a scroll that can call forth this power?"

Still hold the power of winds the wood elf focused on their flows. Ever so slowly Soronuume began to alter their motion changing height, angle, and direction. The winds began to circle around the druid and her companions, cyclonic flow formed started at the center and pushing outward. She was determined to push the mists away, even if only enough for them to make camp off the side of the road. If cyclonic winds did not do it then she would try others.

Selunine hissed in vexation as she watched the girl child slip away into the forest darkness. Instinctually her eyes darted from shadow to shadow seeking the child. Letting out a soft breath she stopped herself, there were more productive ways to find the girl. The fey reached out across the bond that held the witch and turned from the forest to face her thrall. It was then that her eyes fell on Ninian and the emerald fury that smoldered in her eyes.

"So it was YOU! Linus hasn't gotten any new whores for him to use for his own work! He's still kept YOU!" the seemingly timid woman spat the words of rage at the witch.

Selunine watched Ninian closely, and her eyes widened as they fell on razor sharp teeth. There was far more to this woman than the air of frailty she cloaked herself in. Awareness came to her, the witch and child had come for Ninian and they had mentioned a Linus. Now Ninian spoke that name again. She would have to learn more of this man, their presence so close to the conflagration of Badon could not be a coincidence - this man Linus might well be at the core.

Selunine looked to her thrall and placed herself between the woman and Ninian. For now the witch was more valuable alive. In time she would take all she could from the woman's mind, but for now they had to find and stop the child. Selunine reached out into the woman's mind again, her telepathic voice seductive and commanding. You will answer all I ask truthfully, you will conceal nothing from me. If you are very good I will give you a treat.

The fey looked to the fanged Ninian and spoke, "Calm yourself. We will keep you from Linus. And this woman will help us do that. My pet is eager to please me."

She turned to face the witch, "We must stop the child. What do you know of her? Where is she going? How can we stop her?"

The enchantress punctuated her inquiries with a telepathic caress and waited for her response.

Her thoughts went to Xu, and the presence in the back of her mind told her the cat was near. Satisfied Soronuume nodded and turned in the direction of Lorae's voice.

"The air is still tonight, a bit of wind should lessen the fog. I will call the four winds, but who is to say how much of this mist will dissipate..."

The green elf stared forward into the fog and began to chant quietly. She could feel the air begin to stir around her. As the chanting grew louder currents of wind combed through her hair and danced into the space around her. Soronuume continued to chant louder and louder until she finally threw out her hands. The winds answered her call, following the druid's hands they moved out from her into the fog.
