Subject: Soronuume

Soronuume looked over the gear Lorae had laid out. She picked up the Wand of Delay Poison and ran a hand along its length.

Holding up the wand she said, "I will take this if it pleases. It will be helpful to have the wand readily on hand."

Seluumiel stood back listening for a moment before stepping forward. Her eyes watched Bailash closely. I sense too much caution. In her mind there was not enough caution, recklessness all too often killed. She had every intention of seeing this problem through, but she would not do so willy nilly like some mindless chit. Sighing softly to herself the moon elf stepped forward to join the others.

"The rope experiment is a good idea Chiron, I had not considered invisibility. I have magics that can give us that very information faster, but we can discuss that along the way."

Seluumiel turned to faced the newly arrived courier, "Many thanks for your aid Tannif. I have need of a magic shop, a place where scrolls, spell components, and other arcane materials might be found. If enchanter, apothecary, and magic shop can be found together so much the better. I also think it would be prudent to visit a weapon smith. Unless there are any other destinations let us be off."

Actually Celediel I would appreciate that if you could.

And Savrit glad that you're still with us, I've enjoyed our character interactions. Hope the play goes well!

Now that you mention it Celediel, there does seem to be something strange going on with the applaud/smite. I've noticed my applauds are decreasing by one and the smites increase by one every few days at the same time. Not really a big deal, but I did notice it and since it was brought up here I thought I'd mention it.

Selunine hissed in vexation as the child broke free of her bonds. The fey's as narrow as she watched the child create a copy of herself. Several nasty spells came to mind and readied herself to unleash a storm of arcane fury on the little chit.

Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Mora advancing on the enthralled witch. Selunine flung out a hand at the woman, "Stay your blade Mora. I hold the witch's mind, she is of no threat now. The running child is yet free, we must stop her."

The enchantress focused her gaze on the child and her double. Her violet eyes still glowing with magic narrowed as she pulled greater power to her. She chanted and gestured, and a thin layer of frost seemed to glisten on her fingers. With a final cry she threw her hands upward and open to the skies. A great cacophony exploded above the child and great icy shards rained down upon her.

Seluumiel turned to face the knighted woman, "There are no patterns that I have yet noticed. I am sure with time and observation the pattern would become clear, but you are right, we have not the time for that. We will have to place our trust in what magic can illuminate for us."

"As for what we do know of the house, there were no windows in the entry room. Sadly Ardulace was the only to venture further into the place and without her we cannot say what else the house was built of. She spoke only of a black dragon and ogres, not of the architecture."

The moon elf paused a moment letting her eyes fall wholly on Tenacity, "I would think it unwise to remain in the house as it fades. We know not where it will lead us and it may go to realms where our bodies cannot survive, we just do not know. I say we wait until we have more knowledge of the phantom place before making any decisions. Bailash has kindly offered his couriers to teleport us throughout the city to equip ourselves. Let us go forth, gather what we need and sojourn to the house."

The druidess finished donning her armor, the leaf made material once again hugging the curves of her body. After buttoning the last wooden clasp she moved to the breakfast and thanked Lorae and Devon for providing the meal. Soronuume plucked up a few pieces of raw sweet fruit, grateful that some of what lay there remained as it had been born from the land. Her oaths to the wild did not prevent her from eating meats, cheeses, and cooked foods, but it felt almost unnatural to her to eat anything but the raw fruits found in the wild.

Taking a bite of a sun ripened plum the wild elf sat next to Xu and stroked the panther's head. The cat growled lowly longing to move back into the wilderness, but she soon closed her eyes and enjoyed the friendly petting.

Soronuume's ears perked up at the mention of a battle with drow. Likely the drow priestess would take some issue with that. If the woman was going to walk on the surface she would have to learn that the drow had earned their reputation and revulsion. She knew there were some among the drow who fought Lolth and their dark ways, she had even walked by their side but it would take more than a night under the stars for her to trust one of the dark cousins. Well regardless the dark elf's reaction Brianna was offering them gifts, there might well be something that did not hold the taint of the underdark. If she found something she could use she would most gladly and graciously accept.

Subject: The shiny wand

Oh well, eso es como la vida. Thanks for the info but let me explain my reasoning:

I knew I was turning down a nice prize, just wasn't aware of the precise worth. Regardless it wouldn't have made sense for Seluumiel to take the wand, she is trying to pull strings for something with some more power to it. It's not that she doesn't care about monetary value at all, it's just not at the forefront of her mind. Seluumiel was reared in a temple on Evermeet, though she didn't have a lavish existence the elf never had to worry about her needs being met and she learned to value magic and the mysteries much more than wealth. That and Seluumiel is overly cautious about the house and would rather have a scroll that duplicates a more powerful divination than a wand that is worth more but duplicates a spell she can easily cast herself. It just didn't make sense to have her take the wand.

Xavier turns his head to look Seluumiel in the eyes "Now, I'm not one for divinations, but I think that the only knowledge we will find will be not as helpful as actually experiencing this. Of course, it could get us killed... but I'm not one for wasting time."

The moon elf returned the pale man's stare with cool serenity. She had not spoken against entering the house again, only of doing so prepared. Seluumiel sighed, humans were always in a rush it seemed.

"Xavier, let us not do all with haste. The little time it will take to delve the house before entering will prove well worth it, and there is much to be learned that cannot be found out through mundane searching."

Bailash just sat there, mouth agape, as the group he brought together was dwindling before his eyes.

He had heard every word that was said but it was Xavier's voice asking for direction that pulled him out of shock.

"I believe as you do. the house is the most logical course but you all need to learn EVERYTHING about the house you can.

"Now Seluumiel, the wand on the table is yours. It should have stayed with Lacey. It was her reward just the same as all the weapons and items given a day ago for taking the mission."

"Also I may have a wand you need. A wand of Idenify. But you all have 1500 gold coming to you for your first mission. It is unfortunate that lacey risked her life only to leave behind her reward."

Seluumiel moved to the table and picked up the discarded wand. Holding it in both hands she wondered which gods had been called to enchant it with divine power. It mattered not, for in her hands it would be an instrument to channel the enigmatic power of Sehanine Moonbow. She turned to face the governor.

"I thank you for this, it will be much needed."

She paused a moment placing the wand in her bag before continuing, "I also thank you for the offered wand of Identify, but I can readily wield the power to identify objects unaided and would rather not waste what you hold in your estate. Many of the elders in my sisterhood have the power to illuminate forgotten myths and legends surrounding person, place, or thing. Have you a scroll that can replicate such power? Or is there a magic shop in Leaphaven where I might purchase such a scroll? Though if not I can try further divinations, those that I have the power to wield unaided."

I do not believe this game is a failure and very much so would like to continue on. I think we have a good group and the rp is going well. I hope everyone else is with me and we will continue to move forward. I'll have a post up soon.

Thanks.

Seluumiel stood as Ardulace passed through the doorway. The dark elf's sudden departure startled her. She stared after the woman for a time, together they would have been able to accomplish much in service to the people but now those goals would have to be met another way. Strange she should mourn the loss of a drowess, but in truth the presence of another elf, even a dark elf, had been welcome.

The moon elf turned away from the doorway, her eyes running along each of the human faces. There was nothing to be done but move forward, and she would adapt to what came.

"I fear the loss of Ardulace's talents will be missed, but nevertheless we must head on. Let us take this as a lesson and try to place more faith in each other."

"It seems we are agreed that we should return to the house, that is if the house remains. As I have already said, I believe more powerful divinations are necessary and need to collect the necessary items to aid in such divinations before we depart. The house nearly faded from this world with some of us still inside, it is clearly evident that we should gain whatever knowledge we can before entering the house again."

As the last words of her enchantment left her lips Selunine felt the magical weave close in around the woman, enthralling her to her will. The witch stared at her with vacant glazed eyes. Brushing off the chill of the woman's spell Selunine reached out across the newly formed telepathic bond and caressed the woman's mind, she felt it bend to her will. She would be able to glean much from the woman, but for now another adversary was still at hand.

You will remain here my pet, and will do nothing save to defend my life. Her silvery telepathic voice echoed in the witch's mind, and the woman remained still.

Turning her attention from the thrall she addressed her companions, "I hold the witch, but the child still runs free. Take the little one out my friends."

Without hesitation Selunine's hands flash and gesture agilely as she intones the words to a new spell. With the violet light in her eyes never dimming she focuses the matrix around the running child.

On reaching the stream Soronuume strips down and steps into the cool waters. After wading into the deeper waters the wild elf dives and swims out a bit before returning to the shallower waters. She let the coolness of the waters wash over her.

Hearing Lorae call out to them Soronuume rises out of the stream. Her copper skin glistened slick from the waters and her dark curls clung to her in damp ringlets. Shaking some of the water from her hair the druid picked up her clothes to join the others. She let the light of the morning sun dry her before donning clothes and armor.

Seluumiel crossed her arms beneath her breasts as she listened to the man's oration. Sapphire eyes watched him closely as his gaze grew distant. It was odd that she had found none of this in the tome of 'Dragonology' and odder still that the man should near fall into a trance. Castor knew far more of all this than he let on, that or he was an arrogant fool. Neither option appealed to her. The moon elf studied him a moment and then began.

"Five colors, five heads, five cults..."

"You say that the involvement of this cult in the civil war is only a rumor, but remember, a seed of truth lies in every rumor and from seeds grow weeds."

"That this phantom house was called by a cult or travels through the realms of its own volition remains yet to be seen. Lest you have more knowledge of this matter to share, both avenues remain equally plausible and will remain so until we glean some information that points to one path or the other."

"My companions have suggested that we continue our investigation of this house, and I am of the inclination to agree. The house itself should be able to point us to the right path. I have some talent in the arts of divination, but even so the house twisted all perceptions keeping much of its nature from me. There are greater divinations that may well pierce the veil, but I cannot wield that power unaided. Is there a magic shop in Leaphaven where I might find scrolls or wands?"

Selunine glanced over to the mocking laughter behind her. As her eyes fell on the tattooed woman and child they narrowed. They were an odd pair and their appearance out of nothing harkened magic. The fey quickly studied the area around the two searching for any residues of a magical matrix.

The older woman looks at the group, a sneer on her face. "Melios' breath eh? It seems like you don't know what you're meddling with. A quick word of advice; give us the girl, and forget everything that you know. It'll all be over soon." She gives the little girl beside her a tap on the shoulder. The little one takes off in the opposite direction, towards Badon, running at full speed.

The tattooed woman points at Ninian. "Like I said, give her to me, and this will be so much easier. I don't want to have to have things get ugly, and I somehow feel you don't either. Ninian, come over here. Linus misses you. He wants to see you again."

Ninian shakes her head vigorously. "No... no... she's attacking my mind... not Linus... no..."

Selunine eyes narrow to slits at the strange woman's bravado. This woman may have some skill in the art of compulsion, but it was as natural to her people as breathing. The enchantress focuses her gaze on the tattooed woman and her violet eyes begin to glow brightly. As she chants and gestures her voice begins to echo trying to reverberate inside the woman's mind.

Seluumiel nods to the governor, "Such is to be expected from the gods. The world feels the will of the divine through the hand of their followers most strongly."

She pauses to run a hand along the cover of the book, "Though Unther is taken care of as you say, take heed of The People...we know deeply what can become of cults that kneel to darker gods."

A sorrowful air surrounds the moon elf for a time and she traces a hand along the silver amulet of the Daughter of the Night Skies that hangs from her neck. She exhales softly and looks to Castor.

"You have some knowledge of these cults, yes? What can you tell us of them? It seems to me that the presence of these cults here only points to their involvement in this house."

Seluumiel joins the group in the library. Bailash waves an arm in a sweeping motion towards the chairs in the room, "Please, sit everyone. The library is larger than my office so I figured we could meet in here."

The moon elf takes a seat next to Ardulace and relaxes against the chair back watching the others take their seats. She takes a moment to arrange her split gossamer skirts before looking to Bailash to begin.

The governor looked to her, "Was the book I lent you useful? What were you able to glean from its pages?"

Seluumiel looks up to the man and then takes the rest of the group in. She produces the loaned book from her bag and lays it on her lap.

"This book is...interesting. After my study of it and the 'Book of Unwritten Chronicles' I can say that we are likely dealing with Taimat, the Queen of Evil Dragonkind."

"You will remember the verse from the 'Book of Unwritten Chronicles.' 'Five colors, five heads is all I know of your fate.' The goddess Taimat is a five headed dragon worshiped mainly by colored dragons and as we know the black dragon Ardulace faced spoke of its master."

"What is known of the dragon goddess is disturbing. Chromatic dragons are not all that worship her. Kobolds and other reptilian species are commonly among her followers, but most disturbingly humans and even other humanoids are known to worship her at times. There are cults to her here in Unther, and it is not unthinkable that their presence drew this phantom house to your lands."

Hey, took a look at the opening post - looking forward to it. Almost done with my druid (I'll have everything ready by the end of the weekend), but I see we don't have any arcane casters. Do we all think that's necessity that we'll miss or no? I'd prefer the druid but it's not a big deal at this point to switch over to an arcane caster - just let me know.

Also how's everyone feeling about horses?
