Sapa stepped into the security truck with the others, finding just enough room for them all. Hoping they would not drive up to face a man who could manipulate metal in this behemoth she checked herself for metal one last time and nodded her head in satisfaction. She took another look at the group, each of them brought in anonymously knowing nothing of one another. It unnerved her to no end that the organization had managed to find her. Sapa had lived a long life and held far too many secrets, but she would place her trust in the path that Spirit had laid before her.

The truck began to move and the seemingly frail old man driving addressed them "The plan is to let you out close to the bank, but far enough away so that Mercury won't notice the truck. From there, you'll have to find a way to the bank." Sapa ran a hand through her black hair and nodded, a small solace was better than nothing at all. Only a week together and now they would face their first trail with so little knowledge of one another, so little trust. She knew precious little of these her teammates, little of their capabilities and even less of their pasts. It would have been easy to change that, she could delve into the mind of another with ease. But she would respect their privacy and let them keep their secrets. What lay in the recesses of the mind and spirit were many times a terrible thing to behold. She had long ago learned that it was better to invade the mind of another only when necessary.

Leaning back against the seat she regarding the others once more, they were all going to have to work together today. If the file provided could be believed, Gibson Hall had a healthy appetite for violence. Though much could be skewed, so often those who fought for a just cause were painted as villains. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness were the ideals of this nation, yet its history ran red with the blood of her people. The Lakota had been painted as bloodthirsty savages when they defended their sacred lands and their very lives from a people who sought to kill them all. She had faced many who still held that desire. But there was a difference between robbing a bank and defending oneself against genocide. Regardless, she hoped they could get through this with as little violence as possible.

"Perhaps," she addressed the others in a calm voice, "we should come up with a plan of action. Any ideas? When we get near the bank I can assess the situation before we run into the fray." Her silver eyes fell on each of them in turn, awaiting their response.

Topic: What is Real?
Subject: It's a bit more complex than all that...

Yes there is a difference between perception and reality, and there are many things that my modern mind would agree are undeniably real. Still I maintain that reality is a construct. The nature of reality is not so facile as black and white. I certainly agree that a hallucination will not change what is real and not, it is a temporary altering of what we can perceive. A momentary shift in our perceptions isn't going to alter our reality, being born into and raised in a culture/time with certain concrete views on reality will. Within our culture on a micro scale, and within our time on a macro scale there is much that we see as indisputable; what goes up must come down, ect. However these things that we now see as undeniable laws of reality do not necessarily define the reality of a mind outside our time or culture. We live in the same time, and come from most likely similar enough cultures (we are from the same construct of reality if you will), so yes if you thought you hit me with a hammer and I thought you hit me with a handful of posies one of us is hallucinating. Though perhaps they really were posies and not a hammer? Who can tell? Try your exercise with someone from a completely different construct of reality and you might find a differing result (though you'd be hard pressed to find someone with a completely different construct of reality than yourself).

Amhoset followed Cornelius and the vampire who called himself Gnaeus to the centurion's tent on the outskirts of the Roman city. The encampment housed several smaller tents and the centurions large tent, she saw only a few soldiers. Passing the blazing torches into the tent she stilled her mind against the fearful anguish threatening to overtake her.

"Felix, fetch us some of our best wine," Cornelius addressed his servant, sending him out "Please, have a seat." Amhoset sat down, arranging her white skirts as Felix returned with wine and cups. Perhaps she would find some way to avoid drinking the beverage.

"Perhaps you would also wish to enjoy the pleasures of a woman. Would you like my servant to fetch one of my concubines? Or perhaps you, my lady? I will not judge you for your preferences in pleasure." Cornelius spoke again. Cocking her head to the side she looked at the roman centurion and smiled. It would be an easy opportunity to feed, but there were far more important matters at hand. She would find out what she could from this interaction, information of any sort was of great importance.

"Many thanks for your hospitality Cornelius Germanicus," she spoke cocking her to the other side "but let us first enjoy wine and conversation."

But let's not forget about Plato, Lacan, and Derrida.
Though the list of contributors to this discourse is long, as the question of reality is inquired in nearly every form of discourse.

Topic: What is Real?
Subject: Discourse

Do you really expect me to not pontificate at the opportunity?

The inquiry into the nature of reality is a big one. Countless minds have dedicated the whole of their existence to that very discourse. Ultimately I think what is considered real is in a constant state of flux. If we look back, throughout our history, what has been defined as real has utterly transformed itself. Let's take a look at the view of the anatomy, for example (forgive the feminist diatribe that is about to ensue).

For many centuries the female anatomy was actually seen as inverted male anatomy, with horns. Up until recently this was reflected in anatomical drawings. This is not something that was inferred, but actually observed through autopsy of the body. The contemporary eye does not see this inversion, nor does it see horns. We have two medical observations that differ completely and totally. Which eye is seeing the truth (obviously I am inclined to agree with the contemporary view)? (that wasn't so painful now was it?)

My point is that reality is a construct. We are informed by culture, both intimate culture and world culture. In many ways we are blind to see anything outside of what we have been constructed to see. There is a discussion regarding the ages of man. The first age was the archaic, where everyday was the first day. Following that was the age of magic, man sought to be free from the mercy of nature and sought to exert will onto the world. This birth the age of legend, mythologies and empires were born in this age. Finally we have the contemporary age, the age of technology. The mind of each age cannot reconcile with the of the past ages, we have been constructed to see and think to differently. This discourse argues that when the age of legends clashed with the age of technology the power of the age of legends could not affect the age of technology simply because that power was not real to the mind of the technology age.

By looking back merely a century or two we can see a wholly different construct of reality. What we may now see as myth and superstition was at one point reality. In many ways belief defines reality. People with strong spirituality are proven to heal faster. Is the belief that Spirit will heal the body actually making that a reality that affects the body.

Ultimately you are right, that question is unanswerable. Still I hold to my argument, reality is a construct.

Selunine descended the spiral staircase with a purposeful grace, feeling the coolness of each step. She allowed herself the occasional glance out a window, a city of white monoliths rising out of the mists. Gusts of wind sporadically blew into the tower, and she welcomed the caresses flowing over her skin and through her hair. In many ways she epitomized the Aos Si, she embodied beauty and mystery. Any inhabitant of the world she watched would have been awestruck at the sight of her. Selunine was unspeakably beautiful, long shining silver hair framed an exquisitely sculpted face with cool skin and shining violet eyes. Close fitting flowing robes of white gossamer highlighted her lithe figure, yet allowed for free movement. Descending the stairwell she was an apparition of moonlight made flesh.

Her mind raced. She stood at the precipice of change. For centuries this had been her world, and here she was making her way to leave. A tremor rushed through her, and she steddied herself against the tower wall. Soon she would be beyond the mists, and would set foot a stranger in an alien world. Breathing deeply she continued to the bottom of the stairwell.

At the stairwell landing she came to face a figure blocking her departure from the tower. Stopping she regarded the masked one before her, violet eyes tracing the contours of the porcelain mask.

"Selunine my child, where are you going?" the figure spoke in a cool feminine voice "Are you shirking your studies? This tower holds many secrets, surely you don't know them all?" Recognition of the woman's voice washed over her., Mistress Arianna, the grandmaster of the tower. For centuries she had listened to the woman's voice magically projected throughout the tower. She felt no surprise that her leave taking had been noticed. There was precious little her people did not know, and what little they did not know they could find out. Such was their way.

"The outside world is not safe for us. Our people are safe here. Place your trust in me, do not leave," Arianna spoke again in the silvery cool tones of the Aos Si. Yet something lay obfuscated just beyond her words, interlaced with every pitch and syllable. What did she know of the dangers that lay in the outside world? How had Arianna come to know those dangers? It had been ages untold since the world had even remembered the touch of the Aos Si. A gust of wind blew into the tower, dancing with silver hair and white robes. Awakened by the wind Selunine steeled herself and stared into the porcelain masked face before her. Deference was not in her nature.

"Mistress Arianna," she intoned her greeting softly. "The world is changing, and I can no longer stand by and watch. Now is the time to act. Shrines have been erected to Melios," Selunine spoke with a cool calm. "That which should remain forgotten has been remembered." She stood unmoving regarding Arianna, waiting for another glimpse of what lay hidden behind her words.
