The trapped wraith struggles against Sorgoth's force chain held barely in check by sheer force of the wizard's will. He tries to assert his will once again and force them to submit, but the wraiths are too strong for him. He cannot successfully subvert their dark wills and still hold the one captive inside his magic. (They both succeeded their saves.)

Kitiara rushes to the aid of the summoner, leaping into the air as she approached attempting to plant a foot firmly in the things midsection. Her balance was momentarily disrupted when she passed clear through the thing. A chill shot through her body and for am moment she felt as if she would never be warm again. Her feet planted firmly on the ground the feeling passed and her left hand shot out in a blindingly fast backhand that connected with the side of the creatures ghostly head. (6 damage) Calmly she turned to face the thing, readying herself for its retribution.

Avriel, seeing the effect the monk's strikes had on the wraith stepped to the side trying to move opposite the woman's deadly fists. While still circling the wraith lashed out at her, connecting with her right forearm as she prepared to strike it. A shrill cry echoed across the wastes as all of the color drained from the summoner's face. She did manage a weak strike with her mace, but it was only a glancing blow and had little real effect (1 hp damage). The great serpent she had told to stay back would not wait while Avriel was in pain. He lashed out at the creature, first biting with razor sharp teeth and then lashing out with its tail. Both strikes seemed to slice clean through the creature with no effect.

It was the shrill scream that awoke him from his dazed reverie. It took only seconds for Iauran to take in what was happening. One hand reached for his two-bladed sword, a gift from the clergy of his church. The other reached for the holy symbol of the Dark Father strung about his neck. He called to his god in his mind, beseeching him to allow raw divine energy to flow from the symbol and defeat the wraiths, and so it did. Both wraiths screeched in pain as the pure positive energy coursed through them. But after the light faded, both still remained. (4 damage to the one fighting Kitiara and Avriel, 8 to the one wrapped in Sorgoth's chain.)

(OOC: I await your actions for the next round... I already have Sorgoth's unless he chooses to change it.)

Since we don't know how far away the bandits are, I would suggest setting up camp a bit off of the road. Koriss can do a bit of scouting while everyone else is secure in the camp. Perhaps we can set up a few simple traps to help alert us of the approach of potential enemies using materials scavenged from the land nearby.

Generally, It wouldn't do for us to reach the bandits after being fatigued by a forced march. At least, not while we know so little of our enemies. I would imagine it would take a dozen or more to simply herd the refugees away from the gear, given the number of refugees.

Also, while we are here, perhaps we can search the area for the signs of what direction they went, blood stains and what not to determine how many of the refugees were killed (or injured) etc. and get as much information as we can regarding what actually happened here. (Sorry, I don't entirely trust the kid)

(OOC: To minimize confusion I am placing you all outside except Echo who is casting through the upper floor window.)

Several men charge around the corner into the alley behind the warehouse, swords raised and ready for a fight. Not a single one of them seemed to notice the halfling pressing himself quietly against the building. They did not seem to expect an unarmed dwarf to be in their way however. Two of them continued their charge towards the dwarf.

One swung his longsword high and was easily dodged. The next sent a powerful thrust of his blade diving towards Argent's heart. With incredible speed (for a dwarf) the monk sidestepped the second attack, smacking his forearm against the inside of the soldier's elbow and sending the attack high. He followed it up by stepping in under the man's guard and pummeling the man twice in the chest with his powerful fists. (Two hits for a total of 12 hp damage) The guard still stands but seems a bit the worse for wear.

After seeing their two comrades so skillfully avoided the remaining four approach more cautiously. Shortly after the last of them passes the halfling silently steps out from hiding and slides his blade into the side of the last guard, piercing his lung. He falls to the ground bleeding. Two of the guards spin around at the sound of the man crashing to the ground. They raise their swords and approach the halfling menacingly.

The slaves continue moving towards the alley way as a bloodcurdling scream echos from somewhere in the street. Half of the archers turn to look, but not seeing anyone or anything unusual they return their attention to the rooftop of the warehouse (they did lose their action this round however).

The other three archers loose their arrows at the rooftop, seemingly aiming specifically at the group and trying to avoid the slaves (they are property after all). Thiferl is hit by one of the arrows as he crouches down to tend to the fallen slave (5 points of damage) and the others embed themselves harmlessly in the roof.

Gritting his teeth from the pain the cleric focuses his mind and calls forth the divine energy with which he has been entrusted by his deity. He grips his holy symbol tightly as a soothing light begins to radiate from it, closing the wounds of those nearby. The whip lashes evident on the slaves begin to heal as do Thiferl's own wounds. In a matter of seconds everyone is refreshed and fully healed... though the downed slave still lies motionless on the rooftop. The dwarf checks him for signs of life and finds none. He is dead, it seems.

Throughout the commotion the half-orc is getting a solid feel for the area. The roof stands just over ten feet from the ground. On the street side there is nothing that could offer you cover from the killing rain of arrows fired by the seemingly well-trained soldiers.

The slaves are progressing well, the more fit among them have already jumped down from the rooftop on the side of the warehouse opposite the soldiers. Though without a ladder, many of them will not safely make the decent.

(OOC: Correct me if I am incorrect, but I believe the ladder is still inside the warehouse and has not yet been pulled out and set against the rooftop for an easy way down. Also, not counting those who are trapped on the roof without the ladder, you estimate it will take another 4 rounds before the slaves are all on the ground and moving... without direction unless one of you can break away from the battle to give them some...)

Having safely escaped from the city the party seemed to have no choice but to head for the mysterious Shadowthorn Mansion mentioned by the stranger clad in shadows.

For two days they hiked westward, trying to stay a bit off of the road to ensure they were not seen and collected by any authorities that may be looking for them. No sign of scent of the trail they were meant to follow yet presented itself. On the third day the entered into a denser part of the forest. The undergrowth here was almost impenetrable for most. Only the wood wisened ranger was able to make her way without slowing the group's pace considerably. It was about midday that their road became plain to them.

"Welcome to the Shadow's fold." A soft voice can be heard in your head. It is a voice that seems almost soothing yet strong and slightly threatening at the same time. "The Master bids you welcome."

The shadows of the forest just to the north seem to shift in the moonlight, revealing a well-lit path that wasn't there a moment before.

"Have no fear." the voice continues, "You will come to no harm, for you are under the Master's protection. You will find the estate you seek at the end of the northern path, less than a mile from here. He awaits you."

I assumed you were trying to cast the spell from a covered position (which would have meant through the window) since there is little to know cover on the roof top. For the sake of argument I will allow you to be on the roof if you so choose.

In the future I will try to keep everyone's position (when I don't due a tactical map) more organized. I apologize for all of this.

To answer some of these questions (some of which I apparently missed earlier) I have prepared a statement... well, not really but here goes nothing...

Crowe, I will allow you to change your action due to the fact that your previous action was effectively interupted by the events of the game update. Please post accordingly. I'm sure you can figure out how to get to the guy that was shot by an arrow and try to heal him.

As far as a status page... were you looking for a general posting of hp and such outside of the individual characters or what exactly are you wanting? I'll do what I can to get it up, but I need to know what sort of information is needed.

Also, I'd like to take this moment to say that I am still a bit new at the play by post thing, so if there is something I need to explain more or something I forgot (or whatever else) don't hesitate to bring it up and I'll try to get it taken care of ASAP alright?

Thanks.

Offering a sly grin to the young ladies gathered nearby, he took up the tattered bandana and tied it around his right bicep.

He gathered his things, tossing his daggers in the air a few times to test their weight and balance before sheathing them. He made sure to make his way by the ladies. "So, which one of you might I be returning to?"

Stopping only for a moment he offered a wave and said "Don't worry. You'll see me again, I assure you."

After that he headed over to the meeting place, equipment in hand. He saw others gathered nearby so he plastered a smile on his face and approached them.

"So, who has some food for a hungry storyteller eh? I'm not sure I have enough for the trip. Where are we going again? I thought I heard something about a swamp or wetland or something. I'll have to work at it but I'm sure I can turn that into a good story. I might have to cut out the mosquitos and a few nasties, but it'll do. Well, other than that I guess I'm ready."

As he turned to his soon-to-be comrades his smile faltered. Great... and I was hoping my suggestion would be ignored for once... I guess I'll have to deal with him sooner or later. By the time his gaze returned to the gathering crowd his pattented smile was back on his face and a joyful bounce was in his step. He was going off adventureing after all, and to save some new friends no less. He generally enjoyed the challenge of such things. Hopefully this would give him the story that he had promised the refugees without him having to embellish too much.

Your party clears the gate with little problem. The tensions of the group concealed only by their deliberate attempt to hide them. Two score feet outside the gate you hear a voice behind you.

"Hey! You! Stop!"

A single guard comes running out of the gate at a light jog, his weapon still sheathed at his waist. When he catches up with the group (assuming no one shoots him or anything) he hands Kyara a folded up piece of parchment discreetly.

"Shadows watch over you."

Without another word he turns back to the gates, waves off the approaching contingent of guards and walks back into the city.

The note itself reads as follows:

"Your mount was a great companion for you, and a treasured friend. Yet friends and enemies alike will fall in the battles ahead. He (or she as the case may be) was only the first. You and your companions must keep to your tasks if you are to survive through what lies on the horizon."

"Trust these words or not, it is up to you. But they are the truth. Things are happening that are much larger than your desire for vengeance for your faithful steed, larger than anything that has occurred in recent history."

"Travel well. I will see you soon."

There is no signature or salutation on the note.

Shades,
Your character is still inside the warehouse, after having grabed (and donned) the sword and armor emblazoned with the merchant's crest. You were on the secnd level ushering slaves out through the window when the first barrage of arrows took down one of the slaves outside.

As well as the Channel Energy ability used soley for that purpose a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Int modifier. Your character sheet has been updated to reflect the ability I forgot to add the first time.

By the way, since I am letting you swap a spell for Force Chain just this once, you need to let me know which spell prior to your next post. Alright?

At the matrons words Koriss slowly began to calm himself. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly and loudly. A minute alter, when he finally spoke his voice was the more cheerful one that the camp recognized from his stories and entertainment.

"I suppose I should go get my things then. When should we leave Juaris?"

(Assuming an answer here)

"Alright. I guess soon enough I'll have another great tale to recount for the camp." The Raslan pasted a huge grin on his face as he looked around at the gathered crowd. "Don't worry my friends. Your storyteller will return! After all, it can't be a good tale if I can't tell it right? Cheer up, and get yourself ready for some new comrades!" With that he cast a scathing glance at the templar dressed stranger and gave a cheerful wave to the rest of the crowd, then he turned and headed for the covered hammock he called home.

Well, at the very least this should be an interesting trip...

Just this once I'll allow you to swap out a spell for force chain (just because it was cool). No more in the future though.

And the stumble through the spell was due to the following: I made you make a concentration check to cast the spell while sitting. You succeeded, but only just, thus the difficulty in the casting.

The suddenness of the cry jolted Sorgoth from his reverie. It took only a moment for his eyes to clear and he saw the danger. Quickly he sat up, grasping quickly at the threads of magic attempting to weave them into something that would hold at least one of the wraiths at bay. Dazed as he was it the threads seemed to keep slipping through his dextrous fingers. Quickly he re-focused and got a firm grasp on them. He wove the threads into a chain of force that shot from his hand and wrapped the wraith poised to attack Iauran in the chain. The incorporeal creature struggled against the force that restrained it, but for the moment it remains grappled mere inches away from the cleric's prone form. He then stood to gain better leverage against the wraith he held in his chain.

The others awoke, but were disoriented by their surroundings. Avriel was the only other to act.

"Stay back!" She called to her eidolon, fearful of what effect the life-draining wraiths would have on her precious companion. She jumped to her feet as the second wraith approached her and pulled her shining silver mace from its sling. She did not charge, but waiting for the thing to come to her. It did so and she swung with all her might at it. The creature only laughed as the mace sailed straight through it, slamming into the rock at her feat, and causing no harm whatsoever to the wraith itself. A malicious grin spread across its face as it reached for her, eagerly craving the life force kept within her fragil mortal shell. Desperate to avoid the creatures touch the summoner through herself to the rock beneath her, and rolled off of the boulder she had been standing on to plant her feet firmly on the ground.

"That was a little too close I think."

(OOC: The first round has passed. Everyone except Sorgoth and Avriel are still prone and flat-footed. Initiative has been determined. Post/act as you may.)

Due to a lack of posting, I now have 3 slots re-opened for my Realms of Twilight Demo Game. The characters are as follows:

Half-Elf Summoner (with his serpentine Eidolon)
Half-Orc Fighter (wielding a mithril scythe)
Gnome Rogue (Burglar)

This game uses the Pathfinder rule set. For character information you can check them out here.

If there are any questions feel free to post them or PM me with them. I have generally high expectations of postings admitedly. I expect a post at least once a week. I expect the posts to be of relatively decent quality (more than "I agree with so-and-so" or something else really short like that). I hope to see posts that are generally free of gramatical or spelling errors (though I don't think I'm a nazi about them).

I think that's it. Like I said, if there are any questions feel free to ask.

With the help of Quarlin and his handy disguise kit, you all don the images of othr people. A scar added here, a wig or two and some well placed make-up does a relatively good job of transforming the grup into strangers, so far as you can tell.

It takes time to complete the endeaver however. By the time everyone is safely disguised you have only about 30 minutes or so to reach the gate.

The party leaves their hideaway as a group, but quickly disperses, each taking their own path towards the gate. Quarlin and Heironymus each draw suspicious gazes from passing patrols, but over all the disguises seem to be working as planned.

At the end of the road stands the south gate. The gate is currently open, but swarming with guards. You notice a pair wolf-like humanoids, one on each side of the gate that seem to be sniffing for a scent as people pass by. The gate is not heavily trafficked, but there are several groups of people moving through it, some coming in, some going out.

You make subtle contact with each other, hiding in pairs at various ground-level viewpoints. You have all made it to the gate safely, now you wait on whatever "arrangements" have been made.

Just as you are beginning to question the wisdom of trusting a shadow-clad stranger whom none of you know, A dark-skinned elf strays out into the open. He is likely the strangest elf you have ever seen. He is clad in very fine, if strange, garb that displays almost every imaginable color. Bright hues of purple swirl into yellows and blues as he strides confidantly towards the gate. The guards bristle at his approach, putting thei hands on their weapons. The two wolves crouch slightly, and growl deep in their throats.

The elf stops a score feet inside the gate and bows deeply, sweeping off his bright pink barret and brushing along the ground as he does so.

"Greetings fine guardsmen... and animals..." The snarling grows slightly louder. "I see you are doing a fine job protecting us from... whatever it is out there you are so afraid of. Oh don't get so bent out of shape. It was a compliment good fellows. Afterl all, we wouldn't want a horrible vorpal bunny rabit tearing through our town now would we."

Both of the wolves takes several steps forward and snarl loudly in response. "Take care your words stranger. Your kind are suspicious enough as it is." one of them says in a deep, feral tone.

"Well, then I suppose I shall have to choose them more carefully so that there is no confusion." the exoticly clad elf replies. "Let me try this out... Your mother sleeps with vermin. Yes, that was quite plain. Was it too over the top for a mangy animal to understand?" Several members of the gather crowd snicker in amusement. That was the last straw.

The wolfmen howl loudly and charge the man with reckless abandon. One of them reaches the elf and slashes hard with a claw... and hits nothing but air. The elf disappeared, only to reappear several feet to the right.

"Am I too quick for those catlike reflexes? Oh wait I forgot. You're a dog..."

The other wolfman attacks biting and clawing but with each strike the man disappears from where he was and appears somewhere else. By this point some members of the crowd are laughing hysterically, and the other guards at ground level are moving to restrain (or assist?) their wolfen comrades.

It is then that you notice the movements of the elf were not quite so random as you supposed. He has moved a good distance from the gate now, and all attention seems to be on him.

What's funnier is that he came into a situation dressed as the enemy, draws a sword and approaches the current spokesman for the refugees... and the one that offered a way for him to engratiate himself, and expects not to invoke a hostile reaction.

Also, in the future, I would request that you not assume my character would just stand there and not react while you drive a sword in the ground a foot away from him. In the future, please voice it as an attempt or an intention and let me decide if I stay there or react to it.

And with that I consider this closed and we'll go from where we are now.

I wasn't intending to hold a grudge or anything. After all, I offered the idea to let him prove himself to begin with. Then he threw a sword at me! (okay so it wasn't thrown, and not really at me... but still )

But I do agree with your point to let others chime in. I guess I just got a bit ahead of myself. I have deleted my most recent post (since no one has responded to it yet) and will chime in again later. Perhaps after someone has had a chance to calm both of us down a bit.

Though I don't understand why the halfling would be passed over... given that he is standing for the interests of the existing camp members as a whole...

Regardless... what's done is done and we'll go from here I guess.

I understand the thoughts of the character, but from the perspective of a halfling, who is among people who have been bullied much of their lives by Templars, who sees a man dressed in Templar garb (despite his own observations) seemingly challenge the group as a whole in a raised voice and then plunge a sword into the ground less than a foot away from him...

It is easy (at least for me) to interpret that as an attempt to intimidate both him and everyone watching. Thus the reaction.

The halfling flinches but a little when the sword is embedded in the ground. Despite his actions, he didn't believe this one stupid enough to assail the one coming to his aid (whether he realized it or not) in full view of the rest of the camp.

"My suggestion was to give you the benefit of the doubt. Threats will not earn you friends here. We have all heard our fill of them from the very Templars you claim not to be. You say you killed the last owner of this garb and stole it from him. I assume it was to prevent others from bothering you. But remember, you came to us. And there are people here not as willing to look beyond the garb and see what and who is behind it. If you keep flapping your lips and giving voice to threats no deed will prove their impressions wrong! So, if you would have the revenge you claim to seek, then calm yourself and stop trying to intimidate those who are the victims of the very torture and blind ignorance you say you fight against!"

The rage he felt was clear both in his tone, and his stance. He raised his voice to the big man, heedless of any danger he may present. He would not let ANYONE intimidate those who came here for protection. In his mind, those who would try to have no place here. Koriss was beginning to have second thoughts about his suggestion. Perhaps this man was a Templar after all...

Thiferl is planning to be the last person after the slaves. Not all of the slaves are even on the roof yet, thus he wouldn't yet be in the alley leading the slaves away. You would be on the roof ensuring they all went down, and waiting to be the last one.

Argent - You are right about that one. I must have misread the post. The game update has been edited.
