Topic: Orion Group take 2: QA
Subject: Rath'Sharr and Nefarion

The two drow arrived to the group together. In all of the time that they have worked beside you they have said little of their past or how they came to work for the Guild, let alone why or how they came to the surface. Their attitude is generally that of "take us as we are, and work with us, or get out of our way."

They seem to look out for each other first and foremost, watching each other's backs even at the expense of the Group if necessary. That being said, they are ruthless in their efficiency to get the job done. Laws and morals have never stopped them from achieving their objective.

The two drow fight well together, though usually under the cover of darkness. Rath'Sharr works on the front lines, using every tactical advantage possible, even causing enemies to attack each other as he moves through his shroud of darkness. Nefarion covers him from a distance, using the powers at his disposal to aid him in the most effective way possible.

They can work well with the party when they need to, but generally speaking they will not hesitate to knock someone down if they stand between them and their goal.

Shadow catches snatches the gun out of the air, and takes aim for a moment before pulling the trigger, letting lose another blost from the weapon. The creature continues fighting for a few moments before its brain registers the large hole in its chest. Then it slumps down dead. Only then did he realize that he had almost hit his ship mate in the process...

"Sorry about that. What took you so long? I'm an engineer not a warrior for pete sake!"

He walks past Rossettia, handing her the gun in the process.

"So what have we found then?"

Subject: A Shadow gets his name

The design engineer was more than what he seemed. He was called Shadow for a reason. He lay silently on the pipes above as his shipmate directed a blast of steam at the creatures face. She ran, trying to escape while the thing was distracted, but it was going after he... right beneath him.

The creature raised its weapon up to fire, more than likely a killing shot with the power he had seen come from that gun. He had to do something or she was going to die. There had been enough death on his hands, though he would be damned if he showed that he felt this tragedy was his fault. Then the creature stopped... sniffing at the air as if it knew something was amis.

He grabbed the side rail of the catwalk's floor and swung over the side, using all of his momentum to slam both feet into the cat's side. The weapon's blast went wide, blowing yet another hole in the hull of the ship. The creature was knocked against the wall by the force of the blow, but it quickly shook off the effects ad came at Shadow with claws to rival the velociraptors in the museum he had once seen.

With as much luck as skill he managed to duck and weave around the sharp claws, but he could not find an opening to get a strike in. Occassionally he would lash out with a lightning fast kick are elbow strike, learned from his earlier days, but the reflexes of the cat were faster and he couldn't land a blow. Luckily, it seemed that he had dropped his blaster when Shadow had kicked him, but he couldn't dodge forever.

"Rossettia, could I get a hand with this thing!?!" he yelled out as he dropped to the floor, avoiding the creature's lunge by a hair's breadth. "And be careful, it's incredibly fast!"

He rolled back to his feet yet again avoiding the slashing claws of the beast they had found.

"Rossettia! I need your help now!"

Since we have this thread up here, and Pit F(r)iend has given his first look at the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting, does anyone have any questions about the setting or anything?

For the second printing (assuming I sell all I have) all of the images you mentioned as well as several others and the map in the back have been lightened up (some of them significantly). So I hope that will help a bit. But it sounds like you're happy with what you see so far, and for that I am glad. I hope you enjoy the rest of it.

The PDF of the campaign setting is officially available at www.realmsoftwilight.net/marketplace.htm! Word is slowly starting to spread and the first few sales have already gone through!

The excitement is mounting, get your copy (either in print or digitally) and let me know what part of the world I should focus on for my first world book (it will be one of the 5 continents).

Thanks Grugg. Honestly I don't have a clue how long it will be before the judges pick their nominees. I would expect it will be sometime late spring or so next year.

And by the way, for those interested in the campaign setting that would prefer not to drop $50 for a hardcover copy, the digital PDF is going to be up on Paizo's website as soon as they approve it. (It should only be a few days) It will also be available on my website once my web designer gets the button programmed.

I just sent out Pit F(r)iend's this morning so you can ask him in about a week what he thinks about it.

The halfling opens the door into a relatively well lit office-like space. A large desk faces the doorway about 20 feet into the room, and along the wall to your left is a book shelf full of books and scrolls. A large door stands about ten feet behind the desk, closed, with a large (and rather well-crafted by the looks of it) lock sealing it shut. A second door leads off to the right, just beyond the desk.

You see two people standing between you and the desk, apparently having a conversation with a third, seated behind the desk. One of them is rather lithe, with long brown hair and a rapier strapped to her side. The other is larger, perhaps with some barbarian or orc blood in him. He is clad in armor made of interweaving leather straps, and carries a large sword (akin to a great sword) in a sling on his back.

"...we will NOT be bullied about like this. Our gold is worth as much as any of your silk swaddled merchant friends." The woman glances over her shoulder as you enter, revealing slightly slanted gray eyes and a truly beautiful face.

"It seems our negotiations have been interrupted Kai'leen. Perhaps it would be better if we continued this later."

"As you wish." says the man behind the desk, in a thick accent (common to desert nomads).

Her and her companions turn on their heels to face the group. A slight smirk crosses her face as she takes in what she sees. The larger man stand expressionless. Without a word she pushes her way through the group, followed by the large one and storms out of the warehouse. After a moment the man behind the desk speaks once again.

"Can I help you gentlemen?"

Well, I've decided to enter the Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting for consideration in next year's ENnie awards. It's costing me 6 books (which is no small chunk of change) but if I even manage to get nominated it'll be great advertisement (much more than I could get for the cost of the books). Wish me luck, and please help me spread the word about the setting, and above all if the book does get nominated... PLEASE VOTE FOR IT!!!

Thanks again everyone.

I don't think that was the voice we heard earlier. But perhaps there is another survivor.

Lance moved quickly down the passage to the right to what he was sure was what remained of the engineering levels. Even if his ears were playing tricks on him he might be able to find something he could use to hot wire the environmental controls back at what seemed to have become their base camp.

As he approached he heard something shift. A slight scraping of metal on metal. Instantly he crouched down. He may not have been trained in the elite security corp, but he had his own manner of training, and he was not as naive as most people thought.

He rounded the next corner as quietly as possible and saw a person (or so he thought) rummaging through some scrap metal and other twisted and broken components. He, Lance supposed though he couldn't see the person's face, was clad in heavy furs and wearing a large jacket with its hood laying back over his shoulders. The door to the engineering compartments was just beyond him.

This may be a good time to brush the dust off of my fighting skills, though I guess I should try to talk to him first. He may be no threat at all.

"Greetings stranger." Lance said as he stepped out from the corner.

Instantly the man turned, and it was no man at all. A humanoid creature with the face similar to a jungle cat, but longer and more wrinkled turned toward him suddenly, dropping the piece of scrap he held in his hands. As the creature's hand dropped to his side Lance dove back around the corner, barely avoiding a particle blast that cut right through the interior wall, almost taking Lance's leg with it.

Okay, so not friendly after all. I don't stand a chance without a weapon, unless I can get in close.

He looked around, trying to find a solution before the next particle beam pierced his cover. His mind worked quickly as it always did and he noticed the cluster of coolant pipes above him. Hopefully the crash hadn't damaged the supports too much and the catwalk above would still support his weight.

Quickly he leaped up, kicking off the wall and grabbing the floor of the catwalk. By the time the strange, cat-thing cautiously came around the corner, he was laying on the catwalk above, trying hard to slow his breathing and remain unheard...

You see no guards, nor do you hear them. The prison section is isolated from the main guard room by a thick and sturdy oak door banded with iron. There is no window or anything in that one and it is presumably locked, based on the click you heard after the guards departed. The only visible way out of this section of the dungeon is through the main guard room you were brought in through.

Heironymus and Ele are in one cell, Airion and Kyara are in the one opposite them.

Well, I've sold 2 copies to random people I've talked to, given out about a dozen of my business cards and gotten in good with the Paizo guys by letting one of them sign my daughter's arm... interesting huh? Still 2 more days to go. Hopefully I can sell another half dozen or so while I'm here. That, plus all of the ones I have reserved for people should justify the second printing. So if you want a copy that is signed and numbers (by both me and the cartographer) order on the website now. Thanks to Pit F(r)iend we have verified that the ordering system works so order away!

Thanks again for your support everyone. Talk to you later!

I'm currently writing a novel set in the Realms of Twilight world. I hope to have it finished and on its way to the printer by the end of the year. Hopefully it will be on par with the beginnings of R.A. Salvatore or George R.R. Martin. I haven't decided yet, but I may post a chapter or two here, just to get general opinions. If I do it'll be in the creative corner of the site.

Also, I would recommend the Sword of Truth series and (if you can find it) the Cloakmaster cycle set in the Spelljammer setting.

"Yeah, that should work. Where was that beam?"

They both back track a bit to find a slightly bent 4' long piece of reinforced steel. After a few moments of lugging the thing they return to the door.

Using a large chunk of ice as a fulcrum they slam the steel beam into the door and position it as they need.

"Alright, I'll put in the code again so if there is any remaining air pressure in the system it will assist. In this weather the door is likely just frozen, and the system doesn't have enough force to open it."

He stands at the key pad for a moment, fiddling.

"Alright here we go. Ready?"

He punches in the last few digits of the code as Quinten puts all of his weight down on the steel beam. For a moment there is nothing except a slight groan... then all at once the door gives way, flying to the side and opening with enough force to shake a small section of the hull. Quinten is thrown to the ground as the door gives way and Lance only barely manages to avoid being cracked in the head by a flying steel beam as he throws himself to the snow covered ground.

"Well, that didn't work as well as I'd hoped, but at least we got it open."

You find an inn whose prices are a bit more reasonable (5 sp per room, per night) and decide it is as good a place as any.

(OOC: I'll need to know how many rooms and who is paying.)

Heironymus sends a messenger to Allyn to inform him of their location (costing 3 cp).

After a reasonably decent meal in the common room and a few drinks the night moves on and the group retires for the evening. After all, one never knows what may happen the next day.

____________________________________________________________

Early the next morning each room receives a loud pounding on their respective doors. When you open the door it reveals a squad of well armed soldiers, anxious and ready for resistance. The squad commander speaks to you all.

"You will come with us. Any resistance forfeits your lives, and some of my men would be glad to rid our proud nation of a few black-skinned elves."

(assuming no or minimal resistance)

They watch as the party gets dressed and gathers their gear. The soldiers confiscate your weapons, but you are welcome to wear or carry your armor as you so choose. The escort you down the stairs and out of the inn, with a dozen patrons looking on curiously.

Your march continues through the streets for a good distance. The soldiers seem to be showing off their prisoners (yeah for Sense Motive checks!) to the city folk. After what seems like an hour of walking you come to a squat stone building with a well-made oak door at the main entrance. You notice a few barred windows at ground level along the side (They are arced and the top barely 8 inches about the ground). The soldiers roughly force you all into the building.

The room looks rather bland. You see four additional soldiers posted there, along with a series of trunks, in which they place your weapons and instruct you to place the rest of your gear. After everything is put away one of the guards shuts and locks each trunk.

A door opens from further into the room and the guards immediately move into a line and stand at attention, one guard holding each of you in a similar position.

"Welcome to Valin my criminal friends."

The man that steps through the doors is richly dressed, but caries himself like a man who is not stranger to combat. A fine longsword is strapped to his waist and a dagger sits sheathed in his boot. The emblem emblazoned on his tunic marks him as the prison magistrate and warden (this would be known by the two who have been here before).

He steps up confidently, taking a few moments to inspect each of you as he paces back and forth before you.

"You have been charged with the kidnapping of one Jocelyn Larnith, daughter of Allyn Larnith. You will be held here until the time comes that our Lord sees fit to give you a trial. Then, likely, you will be interrogated, tortured, and executed."

He pauses for a moment as he passes Kyara.

"Believe me my sweet. It will go much easier for you in particular if you tell us where you have stashed her and who you are working for now, rather than later."

(assuming the group says little to nothing as they are each puzzling through what has just happened in their own minds...)

The magistrate waves his hand towards the stairs down to the cell block. "Take them away. 2 prisoners to a cell, and keep the dark ones separate."

The guards escort you down into the damp of the dungeons. Each cell stands 6 feet tall and is fully enclosed in stone, save for a stout oaken door in the wall nearest you and a small barred window in the wall opposite. The door has a small barred window in it and a slot that food can be slid through.

After the guards veritably through you into the cells, the doors slam shut with a disturbing finality. You here the keys jingle as the doors to your two cells are locked. Then the guards depart.

(You are across from each other, so you can still communicate with the group. All of your gear (they did a rather thorough search) is being kept in the trunks by the entrance to the prison.)

The coach rolls by the warehouse, giving you all a good look at the structure. It appears exactly as the halfling described it, with a two story area (likely the warehouse itself) and a smaller building branching off of the side, which has been named as the office. No guards are visible at this time.

The carriage rolls to a stop and each member of the group steps out and argent hands payment over to the driver. After a few moments the carriage is rumbling off down the street once again.

The warehouse sits silently as the group approaches, each moving separately so as not to be noticed by any potential guards, or suspected by the people on the street. Argent and Thiferl approach slowly, making a show of inspecting the building, their cover stories prepared should they be questioned. They stop for a moment outside of the office door and begin a discussion, though none in the crows are close enough to hear the topic. The clumsy warrior is playing the part of a body guard, casually leaning against the side of the building as the dwarves do their inspection and have their discussion, but still keeping an eye on the street for any threats. None seem yet apparent.

Meanwhile the stealthy Daleel drifts out of a back alley and comes up to the office door, his position concealed from the street by the dwarves. He takes a moment to inspect the door and its lock.

"The door doesn't look locked to me." whispers the halfling to his dwarven compatriots. "Unless it is barred from the inside, which I of course can't tell from here."

_________________________________________________

Echo is beginning to cross the street towards the warehouse at this point, and thanks to a successful Perception check he notices a group of ruffians approaching down the road (from the opposite direction the carriage went). There are 3 of them, and the rest of the group is thus far oblivious to their presence since they are too far down the street for the rest to see. At their current pace they will pass the warehouse in about 3 minutes or so.

Nothing has left the warehouse (as far as you can tell) since Daleel's inspection.

The time is 3 hours passed Selene's Zenith.

So I understand,

The halfling is going to attempt to pick the lock on the small door (to the office or the main warehouse building?). Both are very visible from the street, so I am assuming the dwarf brothers will stand in a manner (acting to be inspecting the building) so that they block the halfling from view. Echo is moving from the opposite side of the street, approaching the same door.

All this being said, I am assuming that the carriage is dropping you off a block or two down the road. Is that correct?

I have one more thing I'm interested in. Since I'm looking into a subscription based quarterly adventure series, I need a comic (or a few) to print at the end of each edition. Sort of like the short strips in the older dungeon or dragon magazines. Any one interested? This is, of course, assuming I can get the adventure project off the ground.
