Topic: City Fantastico Q&A: The Quest for Liquor and Shame
Subject: Got it...

Unless you guys have some other suggestions. Here are my recommendations based on how the positions have been described:

Goalie: Percy (well-balance... stat wise... not mentally...)

Defenders: Virago (due to his specialization in 2-handed weapons) and Downhouser

Left Wing: Katie (Speed and skill)

Right Wing: Danyael (distract and allure...)

Center: Vitali

Thoughts?

Danyael looks calmly back over his shoulder at the big man and gorgous red head with a raised eyebrow.

"Simmer down Fire Eyes. You to Virago. We must deal with the business at hand first. The rest will be dealt with when we are able." His voice is both soothing and firm at the same time, his undertone saying more than his words.

If this gets screwed up, we fail. And it will fall on you.

He calmly turns back to the Canadian and his hocky goons.

"Now, I believe we were about to come to an arrangement were we not?"

"Go get yourself killed in your honorable combat then ya big ox! I, for one, intend to survive this day. Which means we adapt to the situation at hand, not charge in blindly as you seem intent to doing. Go ahead and do that if you wish. But don't expect me to try to drag your corpse out of here when they turn you into a pin cushion."

That being said the Raslan disappears once again into the shadows, taking up a flanking position with his eyes searching the area (and other shadows) for enemies. Despite his words, he had no intention of letting these bandits turn any of those that accompanied him into target practice.

The halfling grins slyly. "Well, I figured I would use a few of their own traps against them." He pulls out one of the leaf-wrapped bundles of the strange powder. "And I'm sure that little vial won't hurt either... well, it might hurt them, but not us. And on of these thrown into the fire would likely serve as an acceptable distraction once we know they are on to us."

He tosses one of the bundles to Tobias.

"You or one of the others should use it though. I'm won't want to give away my position."

Once you have all gathered again after gathering your things and enjoying the last pleasures of civilized life you may enjoy in the near future, you find Vorlace waiting for you in his parlor.

"Thank you for doing this my friends."

Quarlin speaks up first.

"If things are as dire as you let on, we better get moving. I do, however remember you mentioning the offer of some historical reading material for those of us that are interested in that sort of thing. Well, I would like anything you have on the twilight dragon or historical texts written about or in that time period. That is all I ask."

"Indeed I did." He pulls a small volume from somewhere in his cloak and hands it to Quarlin. "Please be careful with that. It took me a long time to acquire it."

He looks to the rest of the group once again.

"Is there anything else you require before you depart?"

Subject: The battle continues

Uthgar charges, drawing his last remaining weapon on the way. A slight smile appears in the eyes of the White Blade as the half-orc rushs in. With a surprisingly deft move the half-orc feints mid-charge to the man's side, where his hand is stuck to his scabbard, before lunging at his blade side. Despite his clever maneuver though, he is no match for the man's speed. He parries the longsword up high, and then spins around the orc kin, giving him an elbow in the ribs for his trouble (no damage, just for effect).

With the momentum from his spin the man keeps moving, blazing along the ground with lightning speed... and heading straight for Argent.

A dagger flies towards him from the side, aimed almost perfectly. But a lightning fast parry knocks the blade away, turning it from a lethal shot to a grazing slice across his shoulder.

The White Blade then reaches the monk, and seems to be everywhere at once. It is all Argent can do to simply keep up with the man's blindingly fast attacks. Slice after lightning quick slice are blocked at the writsts by the well trained monk. And after what seems like an eternity he sees his opening. With crystal clarity, born of years of training and meditation, he pulls his very being into his fists and lashes out at the man's chest striking the first solid blow against him. He stumbles back a step. slidding a bit further on the sand, his speed and momentum momentarily disrupted. But as he raises his head once more he speaks.

"Ah... a challenge. And here I was thinking this might be a waste of an afternoon."

Another flurry of attacks opens a number of small nicks on Argent's tough dwarven skin, but seems to do little real damage (3 hp damage total). But all the while he circles, placing Argent between himself and the rest of the group.

Echo, meanwhile, does his best to keep the slaves calm and together; succeeding for the most part.

Koriss returns once again, sliding from the shadows off to the side.

"Hello once again." the halfling says in hushed tones before relating all that he saw.

"Since I didn't notice any guards, I would imagine they are in hiding, waiting to ambush us. Likely that alarm you guys set off alerted them to our presence."

He pauses for a moment, looking at everyone.

"Let's not make that mistake again. I suggest you all follow the path I took towards the prisoners. But be on guard. Like I said, they are likely expecting us. I will skirt around int he shadows as always. Besides... I think I might have a bit of a surprise for them if things start to go against us. If not, I will try to take out any archers aiming at you from behind."

He looks to the others for approval of his tentative plan.

The slick guy in the leather jacket steps forward. Leveling his gaze at all of the hockey wannabees.

"Well, when I was told we'd be expected, Ihave to admit I didn't plan on THIS sort of greeting. How about you put those blades away boys. We're here on business, and we'd prefer it if it didn't include a violent introduction."

After pausing a moment he looks to the flannel jacket.

"We were told you might have some information for us. And that we could perhaps lend you a helping hand with the... situation you've grown so tired of. But if you don't want our help, I'm sure we can find other paths to our goal."

He looks again to the angry faces surrounding him.

"And judging by the greeting, it seems like you have all the help you need eh Canadian? Or perhaps you need someone a bit smarter, a bit smoother, or a bit more... shall we say... awesome to get the job done. Hmm?"

Danyael raises an eyebrow questioningly and waits for a response, appearing absolutely confident in both himself and his team.

I cannot hold your hand and give you step by step instructions, nor do I have the time to do so. "The word cult is simply a name for a religious group of people that is not a part of a widely known religious organization. If thee is any negative connotation to it, I would venture to say that it is the church giving it that, not the word itself, nor the connotations given by scholars.
So far as these worshipers, most of the groups that pay homage to the Twilight Dragon worship one aspect of him. Some worship chaos, some law. Some work for good, others for more evil or selfish designs. My informants have been able to gather very little information about the worshipers of this particular group. Though what they have observed is that they are too well organized and structured to be focused on the chaotic aspect of the Dragon. Beyond that, and perhaps partially because of that we have not yet been able to ascertain their goals."

The book assumes that people are already familiar with the area (from buying the campaign setting). But I also have an introduction that talks a bit about the Illurian Empire and the capital city.

Iron shot through with silver... think of a marbleized type effect, except iron and silver instead of stone. That is probably the best description of it.

Thanks for the compliments. Now that I've gotten a few opinions, I'll think about posting the 2nd chapter (I have 7 completed so far).

Uthgar is about 15' from the guy. He did get an attack of opportunity, but the attack missed, so I didn't include it... though I suppose I could have.

Ayrn - Skit is capable, but if you assume the ninja-man idea and the metal things were shuriken, you would have a non-proficiency penalty in throwing them back (as well as potential missile weapon into melee penalties depending on how combat goes).

As far as initiative... It's a mechanic I intentionally don't make all that plain since really everything is happening at the same time. But, the order that people are mentioned int he post is the initiative order.

So in this case, Uthgar, your attacker, Thiferl, Echo, slaves.

For a few moments everything seems to be silent... at a stand still... until Uthgar moves forward to break the silence.

The half-orc brings his swords before him threateningly with a fierce snarl meant to bring fear to the man before you.

In a burst of speed the man sprints towards Uthgar, and the snarl turns to a surprised grunt of pain (slashed for 4 hp damage).

Thiferl was not quite as surprised however. He flung a small pouch filled with a glue-like towards your speeding assailant as he charges past the half-orc and towards the rest of the group. The bag goes wide, missing the man entirely... or so you think until you notice that his right hand is now stuck to the hilt of a sheathed sword (which also happens to be stuck in the scabbard).

With a snarl of his own the man disengages and sprints off to the side to get clear of any other attack. He pauses a moment, as if considering his next move.

Meanwhile, Echo fades into the background, searching for an opportunity to be of use against this new, and blindingly fast, opponent. The slaves themselves are frightened at his appearance and begin to move backward towards the main street.

(OOC: Echo notices as he moves that several of them seem to recognize the man, naming him as the White Blade. Yeah for successful Perception checks!!! The others didn't postso they were pretty much paralyzed with fright at the sudden appearance of the main... or they were ooooing and ahhhhing at the whole running down the building thing... either ay they failed to act.)

Subject: Game Update

(OOC: Gronz picked up 3 small bloodstones in his explorations. They have been listed on his character sheet. Information discovered by both Heironymus and Quarlin were sent to their respective players to do with as they will.)

Master Vorlace begins by answering the subtle threat of Raina in hushed tones (see the PM Celeste), then turns to the Heironymus.

"As I have told you, there is no assurance I can give that would earn your trust. Many of the facts surrounding current circumstances could be harmful if they fell upon the wrong ears. Beyond that, I must admit that there is a great deal that I have not yet been able to uncover myself. That is the first part of what I have in mind for you all. Though if you do not wish to participate, fell free to leave after the meal. For once you agree, you will have set yourself on a path you cannot turn away from."

He takes a sip of his deep crimson wine and looks to the rest of the group, meeting the eyes of each, and gauging the sincerity of each.

(Assuming either Heironymus agrees, or leaves, he continues)

"Thank you for joining my cause my friends. Before I continue, I must tell you that much of what I am about to say should not be spoken to anyone outside of our alliance. If whomever is doing this gets even a hint of our attempts to stop them, it could severly damage our ability to do so. Now, on to your mission..."

The Master looks to the side, at the person you knew to be the butler.

"Corvin, would you mind ordering the staff to bring the remainder of the meal, and leave it here on the terrace. They should then retire to the servant's wing for the afternoon."

"Of course my Lord. Will my services be required further?"

"Yes, they will. When you are done, please return here. Your aura will be most helpful in clearing up some of our trust issues."

"Yes sir."

Corvin turns and leaves the room with no further comment.

"To business. The reason I have not told you much of our endeaver is truthfully because I know rather little myself. That fact alone disturbs be greatly given the breadth of my network. I do know that there is a group working to free the creature known as the Twilight Dragon. History says that dragons were once the rulers of men, elves and all mortals. They drew worship from the gods, and so the gods cursed them. A divine plague ravaged their race, destroying all but three. These three prayed to their father, an ancient diety whose name I have not yet uncovered. With the knowledge he granted them they poured all of their wisdom into a large gem, the size of the average man's head. They appointed the wisest of them to be its guardian. Two of the three gave their lives so that the third could become something more, though the legends are a bit vague as to what. Whatever it was, it managed to survive the wrath of the gods."

He stops only a moment to take a few bites of his food and a sip of his wine.

"There is a long gap in history, but somehow this last dragon was transformed once again, into a true deity; the creature we know as the Twilight Dragon. It is believed that ine a single day he both saved, then destroyed the world as it was, though the details are admitedly vague. The end result is that the Twilight Dragon sealed itself away somewhere, so that it could never reap such havoc on the world again. It seems even this being didn't trust its own power, nor its ability to control it. That, my friends, is the danger we face. If this being is released, perhaps it will be benevolent when it awakes. But even so, it seems only a matter of time before it loses control once again, and destroys all we know and have come to love in this world. But then, perhaps when it wakes it will take wing, and begins its destruction immmediately, saving us all the time and trouble of finding a way to destroy it after the fact."

Corvin comes in once again receiving a welcoming nod from Vorlace. He walks across the terrace and stands silent and attentive, just behind and to the right of the Master.

"You my friends, are our first line of defense. But at the moment, we don't know where the battle is to be fought. My agents have managed to discover the hideaway of a cult that we belief worships this creature. Though such cults seem to be rather fractured, and do not generally communicate much between each other, currently they are our best lead for information. You much go to their hideout and attempt to find any information at all regarding the Twilight Dragon itself, the seals that bind it, or any activities or people that are endeavoring to release said creature. I can provide you with whatever mundane equipment you require, as well as some traveling funds to help you on your way. You will find a pouch of gold in each of your rooms."

His eyes wander to Gronz.

"You, my friend, have already taken a portion of your share. It has been subtracted from what I have given. Shall we discuss the details?"

Master Vorlace goes on to describe a cave-like temple, carved into the side of a mountain, in the Demonspine Mountain range. The mountains are just under a week's journey to the north. From there it will likely take about two more days of hiking and climbing to reach the temple itself. He says that he will watch over you as much as he is able.

(OOC: You can use this next week to ask questions of Vorlace, make your preperations for departure, or whatever else you deem necessary. He will not allow access to his personal library but he will provide several individual books in which he found parts of the story he just related to you. The money pouches you find each have 500 gold pieces in them (except for Gronze who has 350). This gold has been added to your character sheets.)

"I appreciate you noticing me Fire Eyes. And my smooth nature involves quite a number of things. I'd be glad to demonstate for you sometime later if you would like. I'm not a big fan of doing so in front of present company."

That being said he also reaches down to give the injured man a hand to his feet (and support if it is needed) to help him over to the truck.

Subject: Simple, yet effective

He took aim at the boom box and smiled confidently. He pulled the trigger sure of his aim as the bullet left the gun. So he was completely surprised when his shot resulted not in the explosion and silencing of the annoying rap music as he had intended, but in a change of tune... to one of most overplayed songs in the history of music. It brought back memories... Many a woman had lost her resolve to him due to the romanticism associated with this song. After a glance at Katie he decided that this particular tune probably wouldn't work for her... so he simply looked at her, smiled and shrugged.

When time slowed down, he first thought it strange. On a sudden impulse he took a few moments to fix his hair, which he was sure had been messed up by the ride in that nasty ice cream truck. By the time things were flowing at a normal pace again he looked his usual pristine best.

This was a good thing since he had to make his next few shots look cool, so the others thought he was at least somewhat useful in a fight. Thankfully, one of the dumb gangbangers came forward to let him do just that. He ducked the swinging tire iron and came up fast, flashing the thug a quick smile before unloading into his chest.

By then everything seemed to be coming to a close. Most of their enemies were down, and Danyael's ears were ringing from the shotgun blasts that went off a little too close to his head. He saw the ice cream dude rifling through the pockets of one of the dead men.

"Hmm... not a bad idea. It's not like their going to need it." he said to himself. So he started doing the same thing himself, with every unattended body on the site.

After a minute of looting he walked up to where Virago had set the rag-clad man.

"He does look pretty beat up. I don't suppose anyone happens to know first aid hmm? And as much as I hate to say it, Percy is right. We should get him in the truck. If nothing else, he'll be a bit safer should anyone else decide to come by. And given the amount of noise we just made, I wouldn't think it would be too long before someone else, perhaps someone armed with more than a tire iron, comes to see what happened. I don't think they would look to kindly on our prompt defeat of these gang guys in this neighborhood."

1) The alley is about 10 feet wide.

2) You can try to demoralize, but you have to get the target's attention. If you are currently in melee combat with them it will depend on the situation. If you have enough of their attention I would allow it. But if your opponent is defending against 4 people, they are probably concentrating too much on dodging and striking to worry about you being intimidating.

3) The swords are... swords... The flashes of metal look like small points of metal now sticking up from the sand... be careful not to step on them...
