We will be writing a full fledged adventure (beginning to end, initial incident, rising action, plot twists, climax, BBEG fight, resolution, opening for a new adventure) for this right?

Assuming the proposal is accepted yes. Though you will not be required to do maps or artwork (though if you have suggestions or requests once the actual adventure is being written they will certainly be taken into account.)

If you want samples, I could send you one over the next couple of days probably, just to get a feel, along with the proposal.

Samples are good.

And assuming we're poor, and don't have the funds to buy your Campaign setting, do you think there's enough information on the site to be able to write these adventures?

I'm not sure there will be. However, I will be adding the world map to the website in the next week or so. That should help. You should also look on MY forum (labeled as the Tavern off of the home page)for some additional info. Any specific questions I can answer there (as it is broken down into continents and such). Really, there is simply too much information in the Campaign Setting book to simply post somewhere, so the more you narrow it down, the more likely I'll be able to provide you with useful information outside of the book. Also, as I've said, you can expect that I will also be taking an active part in the adventure creation. My part will be customizing it to my world, providing input and feedback to writers as well as altering the adventure as I see fit and any other plot ideas or other contributions I may make over the development process.

Another option is to write an adventure that would work for any setting, keeping in mind the big qualities of the world such as the fact that the sun is permanently eclipsed, and go back through and tinker with the elements that such as people and places to place the setting in my world. Sort of like what some game masters do to adapt pre-written adventures for their own campaigns, just more thorough.

How's that?

Do you need a Whole Adventure or just something to give you an idea on how I write?

Just a sample and an adventure proposal (setting, backstory, general plot outline, etc.)

Is there a word count limit or expectation?
No word count for the "tryout" as you put it. A length limit of 2 pages at minimum size 11 Times New Roman font.

Does this "Try out" need to be complete with maps?
This isn't necessary, but I will accept maps in addition to the 2 page limit of the adventure proposal. And if the proposal is accepted, I will, or course, reserve the right to have the maps re-done.

Can I submit art and writing?
Yes, but they will considered as separate submissions.

Is there a deadline for submission? Not yet.

Does this help?

Subject: As I said

Payment will definitely be there, but remember I am only one person and just starting out, so I can't pay like say Paizo or Wizards of the Coast could. As far as a copy of the published material, that could easily be negotiated into the contract if your writing sample is accepted. I'm sure I will still be taking submissions in the fall/winter (particularly if the Campaign Setting book sells as well as I'm hoping).

The Pathfinder rules are very similar to 3.5E, though with enough differences to make it... well... different. For anyone familiar with 3.5E I don't think it would be that difficult to learn the new system. I would also be available to answere questions, help with stat blocks... etc. Ideally the adventure would be a joint effort in both concept and execution.

Any other questions or concerns?

You find a spot to set up camp not too far off the north side of the road, at the edge of the forest. Before long firewood has been gathered, a fire lit, and a few rabbits (courtesy of Kyara) are roasting on spits over the flames. Judging by the moons, it is likely early evening.

Airion seems to be limping more with each passing hour, and clutching his side from time to time, grimacing in pain.

An hour has passed since you passed through the doorway onto the road. (Conversation can, of course, happen during this time. But I thought it simpler to wave my magic wand of Game Mastership and say it is done so you could all sit around the fire and figure out just what the heck is going on. )

I have no problem making payment deals once I have accepted a writer or artist. I believe the going rate is $.01 per word for written material. The rate I'm getting from my current artist is $25 for a full color half page image. Some examples of that are on my website in the "Treasure Chest" section.

As far as adventures go, I would tend to lean towards plot-based adventures myself, though there must be SOME combat int here to appease the hack-and-slashers. Some of the adventures I've liked best have whole sections that are role-playing alone. However, RP experience points must be awarded for story goals in those sections.

But in short, I'm not opposed to paying for good quality material. Nor am I entirely expecting a person to come up with an entire adventure. I will likely be assisting and coordinating for maps, world integration and artwork, etc.

And when I get a final date from the printing company for the campaign setting, I'll post it here. Of course, I'll be excited enough I just might have to create another thread... (I hope I don't get beaten for it )

From this point on I will be updating the game every Sunday with or without posts from people. Those who don't post or who don't reply to conversation will suffer the whim of the Game Master Alright?

Subject: Creator's Call and Contest!

Alright, well this might be better in the creative thread but it works both ways. As some of you know I am the proud owner and sole proprietor of Silver Crescent Publishing. I have my Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting book (which is set using the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game rule set) and I am looking into the possibility of a quarterly, subscription-based set of adventures (I don't thik I can put out enough . The plan is to follow the general model of the Pathfinder adventures, with a 4-6 adventure series leading up to a great plot climax. Here is what I am looking for:

1) Writers, interested in crafting some of these adventures.

2) Artists for both interior art and adventure covers.

Rules:
1) These adventures must be set in my campaign setting (as they are also part of the advertisement for the setting).

2) I'm expecting each adventure to be between 40 and 60 pages of 8.5" x11" in print. This is including images and maps. I will likely be doing all layouts.

3) As far as art: Some line art is acceptable, full detail is prefered (you can check out some of the images I have on my website treasure chest for examples (www.realmsoftwilight.net).

4) Every adventure must begin with a legend or story from ancient times. It is kind of my calling card for the setting.

Consider this an official tryout. For those who have questions about the campaign setting, there is some information on my website, and more in the Campaign Setting book should you choose to purchase it (shameless self-promotion I know. I can only hope I will be forgiven).

For writers I would like a general synopsis of an adventure as well as an example of your writing style. The synopsis should include the starting setting (where in the world it occurs/begins) as well as any pertinent background or plot info. It should be no longer than 2 pages with a Times New Roman size 11 font.

For artists, any piece of fantasy artwork that you feel demonstrates your art style is acceptable.

What benefit is this to you? Well, I admit I am just starting in this business and I only have so much money to spread around. However, those who are accepted to write or do art for this project will have an opportunity to be recognized for the work that they have done. For artwork I expect initials or some sign of your identity to be somewhere subtly on the image. For both, credit will be given where credit is due. Monetary compensation is possible, per negotiation upon acceptance.

Note:
Any submission for this becomes the property of Silver Crescent Publishing. All rights to these submissions become the property of the company. So I would suggest not pulling out something you might wish to publish later or some art piece you really like out of your closet unless you are willing to give up the ability to do anything with it in the future (though I do tend to be rather flexible as far as artwork is concerned).

If there are any questions either ask them here, PM me or email me. All submissions should be sent to me via email at [email protected]. Anything submitted by PM or post will not be accepted.

Thank you all for your time and I look forward to seeing what masterpieces our Innmates produce!

To the moderators: If my posting this is a problem for whatever reason, I won't feel bad if it is moved or deleted, just please let me know what the issue was or where the post moved. Thanks!

Good luck to all and good gaming!

The Watcher sets down his quill and begins his duty of observing once again. The gnomes entrance and the sputtering thief had grabbed his attention. There was something about them from his visions. He sat in silence, his eyes wandering over the scene, taking in every conceivable detail.

This bears the markings of destiny. Perhaps this is why I am here. Yet I can take no part, or I may violate the covenants of the Order. Curiosity, however, is a strange thing...

(OOC: This post is assuming Ele and Kyara follow the lead of the other two.)

You pass through the doorway and find yourselves on the side of a well-traveled road. In the distance to the east you can see a city (which you could safely assume to be Maruk) In the opposite direction lies the forest, and beyond that the border to the Illurian Empire. These are the two paths you have before you. There is no sign of the doorway through which you just passed.

Both the silver and the red moons ride high in the sky, giving the time to be approximately 2 pm, and several days (at least) have passed since Kyara and Heironymus went underground. Over a week has passed for the other two.

Day 3 - Week 1

As the barmaid delivers his wine the weapons master gives her a sly wink. You notice that he tends to be alert to everything, even as he relaxed just a bit in his seat. Gradually he reaches forward and takes a slow sip of his wine, savoring the flavor as only a connisuer of such fine things could.

After he finally swallows, a smile grows on his face.

"This is fine indeed." He says quietly. After a moment he realizes he is being spoken to by one of his students.

"If you don’t mind me asking, how and why did you become the combat instructor. It’s a little unorthodox, but tonight does seem to be the night for it, and I must admit I’m a little curious about the fine clothes and money your showing and how it relates to you being a teacher so I want to get a better picture of who you are, if you don’t mind that is.”

He pauses a moment, considering his reply. "You'll have to forgive me... Darkon is it? I'm used to being addressed as Master, Lord or one of my other titles. I do tend to keep my business and my past to myself, but just this once I will humor you a bit." His tone is more playful than condescending, though it is obvious from his manner that he comes from a status much higher than any of you.

"I am a part of an exchange program with the Illurian Academy. There I taught general combat and tactics to the students that ranged from peasants to nobles. The previous combat instructor has headed off to my homeland to study our training techniques. We are, after all, one of the most elite schools in the world. Until his return I am filling in. As to my tastes and my manner of dress, I am a noble of the Illurian Empire. Though I have a tendency to enjoy the company of commoners more than most nobility, I still enjoy playing the part." He pauses to enjoy another sip of his wine. "This wine really is quite exquisite. Perhaps if you all continue to improve I might even treat you each to a glass."

"As to why I became A Master of the Academy, well, the other Masters at the time asked me. It's really that simple. I was the honor graduate of both schools I attended and I had other... experience that they desired, so I was a prime candidate for the position. And that is all of my past you will hear for the moment." He says with a smile. "After all, there must remain some mystery about me or I lose my allure."

Red Dragon Inn Dining Area
Day 3 - Week 1

People of all sorts frequented the Inn. But when the door opened and the new combat instructor walked in, everything stopped for a moment. It wasn't because of his skin, or race that drew the attention of everyone, but his clothing. He was clad in fine silks, more befitting of a noble than a teacher. He smiled knowingly as he gained everyone's attention.

"What? Do I have a smudge on my nose?" he reached up comically and pretended to rub his nose. "I knew it. The black is wearing off..." Scattered laughter broke out and everyone seemed to go back to their drinks and food. After taking a moment to take in the current patrons he noticed his new students at a table off to the side. He nods to them in greeting before moving through the dining area, somehow managing to keep from getting any smudges or spills on his fine clothing. He gracefully weaves his way up to the table of his students.

""This may be a bit unorthodox, my being your instructor and all, but I am even newer to the area than yourselves, and I know so few people here as of yet. Would you mind if I joined you for a few moments’ young ones?"

(assuming they invite him to join...) Sits silently and waves one of the barmaids over, ordering the most expensive wine the Inn has to offer (which is impressive as it goes for aover a score of gold pieces a glass).

"So how are we all this evening?"

(This is assuming everyone has pretty much arrived already. I just didn't want to forget to post, so consider this after everyone else has arrived please).

"My name is inconsequential to you. And my terms are stated in the letter you will find in young Airion's pack. I would suggest you not attempt to open it. You never know what one such as me might do to protect information." His confident smile turns into a sly grin.

"And I am sure that anyone seeking employment as a guard would be unable to fulfill the agreement, so I see no reason to discuss the arrangements or purchase price of the young woman. No if you don't mind, be good little pigeons and carry the message to your merchant friend."

He waves his hand dismissively and pulls a small book from somewhere unseen. Without giving you another thought, it seems, he leans back on the throne and opens the book, beggining to read. One hand is still crackling with magical energy, though he seems to be taking care to keep it away from Jocelyn's chain... for now.

"Yes Kyara my dear. I do invite you to return at a later date. I would welcome another... companion should this girl's father see reason. Though I would recommend not throwing any more blind accusations. After all, I have spoken nothing but truth since you arrived here, that you are incapable of seeing through the twisted veils that mask the truth is not my concern. But take care with your insults. You are currently a guest in my domain, but I will not abide rudeness."

"As for the rest of you, your departure is eminent. For the two who so cleverly discovered the most obvious entrance to my home, I offer a simple saying that I hope will guide you towards your next employment, as I'm sure you are hoping. The saying is thus: If you look at the truth through eyes clouded by preconceived ideas, you will see nothing but veils of deceit. First you must free your mind, and only then will the truth become clear." He waves his hand and the large door behind you (Kyara and Heironymus) opens. Beyond the door is not the dark tunnel through which you entered, but the shadows of a forest. If memory serves it is the edge of the forest, along the road you traveled with the caravan of goods in servie of the merchant."

After a brief pause he turns to his other "guests."

"To you I would offer this bit of advice. You are already in deeper than you know. Take care what you say and do, for there are many interested in your actions. Know that it was not me who captured you, as with the lady here." he tugs slightly on Jocelyn's chain. "But I have every intention of continuing to profit from your capture, even as I release you. You may leave through that door aswell if you wish. If not, I'm sure I can find some way to keep your presence... entertaining for another few days." He motions to the doorway with a charming smile on his face. It is then that the girl tugs at her chain, pulling hard.

"You can't leave me! The things he will do to me...!"

"I recommend you silence yourself sweetling, before I have your tongue removed." The dark elf replies cooly.

Tears fall freely from Jocelyn's cheeks as she tugs furiously on the chain one final time.

"You are in need of another lesson are you?" With a gesture and a few quiet syllables the elf's hand sparks and zaps with electricity. Jocelyn looks at his hand horrified as his electrified hand creeps closer to her chain. "I would prefer not to punish you in front of our guests sweetling. Do mind your manners."

With only another glance at the sparks between his fingers Jocelyn manages to somehow compose herself and sit quietly at the base of his throne, though the fear is still plain to see in her eyes.

Though I do not wish to re-open the argument, I do wish to point out once again that Steelight did offer a peaceful solution to the imps and he WOULD NOT have slaughtered them in any previous engagement. Beaten them perhaps, I admit, but not killed them. He saw the potential combat as a test of his skills and reveled in that test, not the death or violence of the fight. Though, should you meet him again you might find him a bit... different nowadays. So I would appreciate not being attributed with a slaughter that did not and would not (in character) occur, at least at the hands of my monk character. Thanks!

You will get XP for the encounter and hopefully Meri will be nice enough to record it on your character sheets once I calculate it. (OOC: Sorry I'm a day late.)

Some of Sintan's wounds begin to close as the healing spell is cast on her (heals 5 hp damage) and her limp is somewhat lessened. She still looks a bit the worse for wear, but is no longer on the edge of unconsciousness. She licks Zeph's face in thanks and stays near to her friend.

A cursory look at the merchant reveals at least three stab wounds, though only one is his stomach seems to be bleeding badly. Seeing that no one else has moved to help the merchant Darkon kneels and pulls out bandages from a pouch and begins binding the wounds as best he can. (Healing check 17... lucky.) After a while the bleeding seems to stop and the merchant (with the assumed help of Darkon) manages to sit up, leaning back against one of the wheels of his cart.

"Thank you friends. Those little rascals would have been the end of me. I lost some goods, but they weren't at it long enough to destroy everything, I hope."

A loud voice that you don't recognize calls out from the trees behind you.

"Well done students. It seems you have improved immensely from what your previous weapons master told me." The suddenness of the words brings everyone's eyes to the trees, searching for its source. A momentary glance behind you shows both the merchant and his cart to be gone, as if they never existed. Yet your wounds, and those of Sintan, are as real and painful as ever. From off to the side a relatively tall humanoid figure seems to materialize out of the shadows and strides forward, staying just beyond the edge of the clearing.

"The time has come for introductions I believe. I am Szordrin Trith'Tarl. I am an exchange instructor from the Illurian Academy. For now that is all you need know." He walks into the clearing, squinting a bit in the light of the sun, even shielded as he is by the canopy of the trees. He is a dark-skinned elf with eyes of crimson and hair both white and silver. You see no obvious armor, only a fine leather jerkin and equally fine breeches. He also seems to carry no weapons beyond a few daggers that he has sheathed in a harness on his torso.

"I do have a few suggestions however. Zeph, I realize your kind are not known for your compassion, but then from what I have heard you are not a stereotypical member of your race. Is this true? For now you are the only source of healing your companions have. While it is honorable to protect and heal your wolf friend, you must realize that when you are in the wilds, you depend on the others just as much if not more so. You must leave your personal feelings back in the school where they are less likely to get you killed. I must admit though I did like the idea of summoning a second wolf as a distraction and a source of misdirection for the kobolds. Bravo on that account."

"Darkon, you're ability to wield two weapons is exceptional for one of your experience, though bear in mind that there are times when two weapons will be more of a hindrance than a help. And be careful not to rely solely on that skill, for at some point it will be minimized if not taken away all together."

"Kiirnon, your arrows flew true this time. But take care that you don't injure your own allies as you fire. You played your part in this well, but as with Darkon, you must realize that you will not be able to rely on your archery skills forever. And you also did not make very good use of your precision strikes. You must also work on your ability to remain hidden. While the kobolds took long enough to discover your position that they were otherwise engaged, if there had been another squad or a single person with even average perception they would have likely discovered your position in short order."

"The advice for the others I will leave until a later time. This test was not only to determine your combat abilities however. They were a test of your choices to do the right thing. I was curious if the goblin would attack given his defense of the imps previously, and he did so without hesitation, though he preserved the life of a combatant over that of an innocent. I was also wondering if the merchant would even be considered after the fight. I was glad to see at least one of you decided to check on his condition and do what he could, regardless of the fact that he was not the most qualified for the work. You have passed your first test here, so I am done with you for the day. I would recommend you return to your other studies. Professor O'Leary will send you to me once again when she believes you ready for your next lesson. Remember that we do have a tournament against a rival school coming up soon. The more you practice both individually and as a group the more likely we are to win the day. Class dismissed."

He stands for a moment as if waiting for his students to depart. (If no one approaches him he fades into the shadows without a sound, as if he had never existed in the first place.)

I know Dakarta is still a part of it as well, he just tends to wait and see what others will do before determining his action. And as far as twice a week, I'm okay with that, HOWEVER since I started running this portion of the game, I am lucky if I can get everyone to post once a week. I check in on the game almost everyday. When everyone has posted I will update the game. If that is only once a week then so be it. If it is more frequently I'm okay with that as well, though I can't speak for what will happen once this section is over and Meri takes the game back over (at least until you guys go through another training exercise).
