Topic: Realms of Twilight Demo Q&A
Subject: General Information

Here are a few tidbits you all would likely know.

1) The wastelands are an area created by ancient and powerful magic that drained the land of all life. (Legend)

They are frequented by savage halflings known as Nightlings, who have a fondness for poison, and are feared by even full Illurian patrolls due to their hunting/stalking prowess and thie efficiency in killing. It is also rumored to be frequnted by various undead creatures, though since your experiences with the wastelands would have only been via the roads you would not have any first hand knowledge of them.

2) Horses are almost impossible to purchasse in the capital city. The reason being that there is simply no room to raise/feed them. Several noble houses maintain their own stables, and there is a stable just outside the city for travelers. Purchasing a horse would cost 3x (or more) the normal price.

3) There is a wall outside of the city, roughly 200 yards beyond the crystal pyramid. Beyond that wall is the wasteland. So meeting up 1/2 mile beyond the gates may not be the best idea survival-wise, but I leave that decision to you.

Any questions?

Because I started the game 2 days late I will refrain from an official game update until next Sunday. (unless we get all questions answered, supplies dealt with and are ready to leave the city prior to that).

first do I know which door the new guards are coming in?
Yes, it is a door to your left (your rescuer could identify it as the door to the warden's office).

If so does the door they are coming in open into the room or out of it?
The door opens into the room.

Are there any tables or chairs in the room we are in currently?
Yes. There is a small table and 4 chairs tha the guards normally sit at to play cards.

I am a 6' 2" white guy, weighing in at just over 200 lbs. Relatively short brown hair. Brown eyes... and tends towards darker clothing (though not necessarily goth or anything like that).

Is that good enough?

Physical Description:
Uthgar has seen many hardships on the open sands. His yellow/gray skin is calloused, toughened by years of experiencing the brutal sand storms. His left eye is constantly closed, and a large scare crawls down the middle of it, a reminder to the ranger that even the smallest of creatures can still be deadly (it was a cornered rat that had done the damage when he was extremely young)

Uthgar’s lower jaw juts out in front of his upper may slightly, giving him an under bite. Two reverse canines peep their sharpened heads out from under his lower lip, though this is often hidden by a red muffler that he keeps wrapped around him.

The Half-Orc Ranger stands in at 5’10, rather short for a man of his breeding.

Personality:
By nature, Uthgar is a silent being who reflects and meditates for periods of time before stating anything. If his adventuring group was to deciding the course of action around a table: Uthgar would be leaning against a wall with his arms folded with both eyes closed and listening to what they had to say.

Society has often looked down upon Uthgar due to his bestial appearance and bloodline; and that works just fine for the Ranger because he to despises people (though individual persons can draw better reactions and perceptions out of him).

Subject: I apologize

I didn't realize so much was going on in this thread.

To answer most of your questions:

1) The group is together, and meeting in some location. It could be a tavern, or one of the character's houses since you all live there. The exactl location doesn't realy matter, though it is still in the city of Illuria.

2) The Empire is NOT supplying any goods or supplies for your journey. You are compensated as well as you have been partially because you are independant. They don't want you to have anything that could be traced back to government involvement (except the box of course).

Also, I did have a person show some interest in the summoner. I made an inquiry to them and if I don't hear back I have another interested person. So it seems the summoner will be accompanying the party in one form or another. Until the player is resolved I will be playing him as an NPC.

Also, character names I have been given have been updated.

The half-orc swings his flail hard at the guards head, resulting in a sharp CRACK as both his helmet and skull cave in. He collapses to the ground, never to move again.

Kyara rushes the final guard. He loses his balance for a moment but recovers quickly, adjusting his stance as Kyara ceases her charge. Ele swings her chain once again attempting to entangle his other arm. Yet again he avoids the strike, though this time he counters he move with a flying dagger. Despite the danger Ele swings again, this time connecting squarely with the guard's chin. Kyara felt the chain go slack for a second as he stumbled, and a sudden jerk send him sprawling to the floor.

Ele too went down, though the wound the felled her was not visible, though the pained groans that escape her lips hint that she still lives.

Airion stood staring blankly at the chaos that had erupted around him. He knew they must finish this battle quickly. The remaining guards could only be a few seconds away.

Seeing the last guard tumble to the ground and struggle to stand, Heironymus pounced on him instantly. With no apparent weapon at hand (the man's sword still be entanged by Kyara's manacles) he used the weapons the gods had blessed him with at birth and pummeled te man into unconsciousness.

Airion: Perception check 19:
(The guards are approaching from behind another door, there are at least 5 of them and they are likely to arrive in 2-4 rounds)

Well, if you can commit to play then we can make it work. I'll get you set up with the summoner then. Make sure to look at the pfsrd (use the website listed above). That will help you learn the system. I believe it has some info on the summoner class itself as well. If you have any questions PM them to me.

You can try a second bash, or you can try to pry it (yes the lock is very weak at this point. The proper application of leverage should be able to break it from what you can tell).

The update has been edited to reflect the breaking of the lock.

I've been gone for almost a week on a trip to Georgia. I'm still interested, I just haven't had a chance to put a character together as of yet.

How do you feel about psionics?

Other than that I'm looking at a rogue I think. Is it possible for me to use the Whisper Gnome race from Races of Stone? I can send you the stats if need be. If not that's okay, I'll just pick a different race.

Since the halfling has, for some unknown reason, slipped into a coma, the dwarven brothers go to work on the lock and the door.

Thiferl prays for a moment under his breath while Argent brings himself to his center, focusing on his next strike. As Thiferl's prayer continues a sharp dagger of ice forms in the dry air. With a gesture he streaks through the air, striking the lock on the cellar door and leaving drops of water in its wake. Right on cue, only seconds after the icicle strikes Argent slams his fist into the lock.

The lock looks extremely damaged, but has not yet broken to the point that it could be easily removed.

You can hear the sounds of murmuring and voiced on the other side of the cellar door, even as the echoes of the tremendous blow fade into silence.

Another smash shatters the brittle lock. The door is unlatched and opened easily revealing a dimly lit room below. About a dozen sets of eyes stare up at you from the base of the stares...

(Argent makes a successful Perception check):
The triskell symbol looks to be tattooed on the left shoulder of every person held in this room.

Enter the writer, the publisher, the legend... (or not...)

I usually tend to be a bit longwinded with my greetings, so I'll attempt to keep this short.

We welcome you to the humble hole in the wall we affectionately refer to as the Red Dragon Inn. There are people here of many talents, many rule preferences, and incredible creativity. I hope you find what you require with us, and enjoy the time you spend here.

Again, welcome. Drink and be merry.

And hmm... Prego? When did Meri turn into a red pasta sauce? Must be a part of that whole pregnant thing...

It is more or less built into the floor (similar to a storm cellar in a house). And the lock is a padlock external to the door itself, though the handles are forged iron, bolted to the doors rather sturdily.

If I remember the spell correctly (as I don't have the book in front of me) the damage is more or less split between cold and piercing (though I could be wrong). Also, it wouldn't be exposed to the cold long enough for it to cause significant embrittlement.

The cold damage would (however) bypass the lock's hardness rating... and the more I think about it, depending on the damage I roll for it if you do it, I might reduce the overall hardness of the lock (effectively making it more brittle) just because it is a creative idea.

I will warn however, that if there is a trap associated with that lock, attacking it could potentially trigger it. Just a warning to be fair.

As far as Shades331 goes, he will be joining us. I will leave the when and how to be played out in game however.

Might there still be room for 1 more?

And if so, you said 3.0 core books, is 3.5 acceptable?
Also, if we want something outside of the core books, are they completely off limits or can we try to sell you on the idea?

If the town is as small as the sheriff's comments seem to reflect (given we haven't had any official answer) I would question whether there is a mage in the city at all. it wouldn't be uncommon for a hamlet or even a small town to now have a known wizard in it.

And a lot of these questions should be directed at the sheriff himself. Particlaurly about the cliffs/caves and such. These are very real possibilities, though it is equally possible that if they do exist the local authorities have made at least some attempt to look into them.

Daleel stands there dazed for a few moments as the rest of the group scatters around the room in a frantic but relatively methodic search.

You find no crates on the floor level that bear the mark you seek. Nor did Daleel see any on the uppoer floor on his way in (which he quickly speaks once his head clears), though he only got a brief look and event hat only at half of the crates.

There is a locked cellar door in the corner of the room. The door is made of wood and iron, and seems very thick and sturdy. The lock seems well-made, and the hinges are not visible.

Thus far there is no sign of the arrival of more foes.

You and your companions have been working as mercenaries for the military of the Illurian Empire. Over the past three years you have been hired to perform a number of quests. Each quest needed a certain subtlety, discretion, or some other reason why the military itself could not risk its association. You completed each of these tasks with little complaint, and they have rewarded you generously for your efforts.

It has been several months now since your last task. You were beginning to wonder if you should
seek employment elsewhere when you were contacted once again.

As always a message was left at the Temple of Shadows, where the most pious of you always goes for the daily service. Under your usual seat you found a piece of rolled up parchment from your usual contact.

(The parchment is picked up by Iauran Norovir)

It reads:

My fellow Disciple of the Dark Father,

It has been many months since we last spoke, but I fear we are in need of the services of you and your comrades once again. You have succeeded in quests that so many others have failed over the years, so now we call upon you to perform one in which failure is not an option.

As you likely know the tensions between the Empire and the nation of Valin to the east have been escalating for many months. It is unfortunate, but our relations have crumbled to the point that we fear an attack. As a contingency for just this circumstance we have prepared a weapon that can be used to fight against the Valinites, however it does no good to our forces in the east while it sits here in the capital. Our mages have for some unknown reason been unable to magically send it to Bevaris, and we simply cannot spare the soldiers to courier the item. Your task is thus to take this weapon to the High Command of Bevaris, and from there to whichever border fortress they require.

This task sounds simple at first, but as always in our dealings, there are complications. I cannot stress enough how important it is that the weapon reach Bevaris with all speed. And I fear that traveling by the winding road through the wastelands may take too long. If our spies are correct we can expect an attack within two weeks. By road it would take at least three to reach the city. You know the route you must take, though I must warn you: beware the nightlings, and the shadow creatures that roam the wastelands beyond the safety of the Emperor’s pyramids. It is a most dangerous journey.

As always you will be well compensated for the task when you reach Bevaris. I would expect that the High Command there will have further instructions as to where exactly the weapon must be taken. You must make haste, and leave as soon as you are able. The weapon awaits you in the Temple of Shadows once you have gathered your comrades.

With great respect,
Disciple Neurin

------------------------------------------------------------

After a short discussion you decide to accept the task, for the Empire truly has compensated you generously for your past deeds. Iauran returns to the Temple the next day to pick up the weapon as instructed int he letter.

The alcove is illuminated only by the candles of the petitioners. The statue of Elarii, the Trickster stands before you, his arms out to his side and a sly and knowing grin across his face. You kneel before the god of deceit and bow as if to pray. Your mind does not seek guidance from the gods this day however. Your head bowed, your hands seek out the hidden compartment in the base of the statue that you have opened so many times before. After a moment you here the barely audible click, and slide the cover aside. Within you find the weapon the message spoke of and a letter identifying you to the garrison commander at Bevaris.

This so called weapon seems nothing more than a small box of polished ebony banded with rune etched iron. It seems heavier than one might expect given its small size, and there is a rather complex lock sealing the box from prying eyes.

Your quest has begun. And time is of the essence. War is brewing, and this item, whatever it is, could save many lives.

(OOC: I expect there will be questions. Please post those on the Q&A thread. I apologize for being 2 days late getting started, but now that we are, let us enjoy it!)
