Topic: Orion Group: Inner Turmoils
Subject: Even fewer words

Rath'Sharr wordlessly pulls his hood closer around his head to more effectively hide his race and gestures to Nefarion. After a moment of silent communication he moves into the crowd, disappearing in to the shadows, as he always does.

If it is necessary or there is more profit in it. However, I don't believe that to be the case here. And, after all, it is the hunt and the challenge Rath wants.

Topic: Pathfinder - How to be a good GM
Subject: Specifics?

Can you be a bit more specific? I'm running a few Pathfinder games right now (both table-top and at the Inn) and just published a Pathfinder compatible campaign setting so I'll try to help.

To me, in order to run an outstanding campaign you have to know your group. Individual adventures you can run with strangers without any problem, but a campaign that will continue for a while requires a bit more thought and player input.

For the groups I run, they tend to prefer roleplaying, story and plat twists, and strategic combat rather than a hack n' slash type of set up. As an example, I have 1 campaign set on the arctic continent of the Realms of Twilight campaign world where there are 7 or so plot lines occuring simultaneously, some of which the PCs are interacting with, others are going on behind the scenes. If you are new to GMing I wouldn't suggest something THAT complicated, but it is an example.

Another general tip I would offer is to be flexible, and expect the PCs to throw a wrench in your best laid plans. After all, that's what they do for entertainment. I will generally have an outline written, with several encounters they will run into should they follow the path I want them to. But I have a few other creatures that are applicable to the area and the campaign bookmarked for easy reference.

I hope that helps a bit. I would actually suggest the Pathfinder Game Mastery Guide. It has a lot of good tips about maintaining balance in a campaign and catering to different player types. If you're new to the GM slot, I would highly suggest glancing through it. I think it would help greatly. If not, you would likely still get a few good ideas on plot lines and such while you're looking.

"You're right. I don't want to leave them without heat for too much longer."

The engineer examines the door quickly, analyzing the cuts his crew mate suggested.

"When you cut, take extreme care. We don't want to further injure her. In fact, what fuel source does your cutting tool use? I might be able to better utilize that."

He looks once again at the door, and is suddenly struck by inspiration.

"This is one of the crew doors. That means it isn't solidly built. The doors to the crew chambers were constructed to muffle sound and provide minimal security, not to protect those inside from explosions and the like. That means the interior is hollow, and likely filled with a synthetic protein that absorbs sound and vibration. If we can get a whole cut in the base of the door, we should be able to drain out the majority of that protein. That means it was more likely the impact that injured her and drained her strength rather than the continued crushing of the door (though the door would still likely be rather heavy). If we can find a container we can even keep it for use in insulating our own quarters back with the others."

He rushes back into the nearest room, looking for a sealable jar or something. After a moment he calls back.

"Take care when cutting though. The protein will flow, but it is thick and heavy. It may douse your torch in short order once you penetrate the skin of the door."

Rath doesn't even turn to acknowledge the human. When he speaks, the words seem for flow out of his mouth, smoothly dancing around him like the shadows he embraces.

"I hope the thieves are as good as they say, magical aid or not. It will make the hunt all the more fulfilling."

Due to the observations mentioned by your comrades I believe I should mention this. While I will not say if their guesses are correct or not, neither slavery, nor the imprisonment of intelligent beasts (such as for a wizard's menagerie) are against the law, nor are they uncommon, even in the "Free City" of Calatain.

A sly grin slowly spreads across he drow's face. No one can read his eyes, covered as they are by the light-limiting goggles, but those who have worked with him are sure that the smile could be seen there too. This was just the type of mission for a drow. Search and destroy.

He nods to Nefarion, indicating they should head out, and without a word turns to head off towards where the caravan is gathered.

Subject: Update

Hey guys and gals. Just an update from me at Silver Crescent Publishing.

The Realms of Twilight Campaign Setting is doing pretty well. I noticed I'm getting a lot more people watching my blog than I had before (though still no one sees fit to comment...). The Realms of Twilight forum had a conniption recently and reverted back to an earlier version from about 2 weeks ago. It's working now, but I lost some of the posts by Pit F(r)iend and one of the guys from the Paizo forum. So that's been a bit frustrating.

In good news, I'm through chapter 8 on the Into the Night novel, and I'm working on a trial adventure that I will be distributing free of charge for people to get a taste of the world. Hopefully I'll have that done in the next month. Tiamat and I are also working on another, rather large adventure that I think will be pretty cool.

Well, that's just an update for anyone who cares to keep track.

Have a good night and good gaming to all!

The engineer moves back to the other security guy.

"I see you found another survivor. How is she?"

He looks around a bit, searching for power or heat sources. Finding none he returns his attention to their wounded comrade.

"I can try to help you get this chunk of metal off of her. But I'll still need to head back to engineering in order to find the parts I need. I think I saw something that cat creature discarded that might be of some use."

'snick' The lock opens. In moments the door keeping Ele and Kyara sealed in their cell is open. Freedom seems ever closer, if not for the guards outside.

A second later you hear the main door open, and a voice carry down the hallway.

"Are you sure you can handle all four of them? Do you need a hand?"

No one has yet opened the door far enough to actually peer down the hallway, though you are all in plain sight of the door, should they choose to do so.

Subject: Game Update... as it were...

The door to the warehouse closes behind you, leaving you out of sight of the man inside. As the dwarven monk has observed, it seems you must now find another way in.

The suggestion has been made that an entry by force should be attempted. After looking around you notice the small door Daleel was refering to in the side of the main warehouse building facing you. The large main door is another option of course, and the windows (which are more air vents than windows, being wooden sections that are propped up away from the building) would be yet another possibility. However, the main street is to your left, and traffic is beginning to pick up as moon set approaches, so you must act quickly.

Another thing you notice is that your greatsword wielding companion seems to have vanished. Thinking back, none of you seem to remember him entering the office section of the warehouse with you, nor any sighting of him after stepping out of the carriage that brought you here. A strange occurance indeed...

(OOC: This is the only conversation post I will allow to occur before the man's final statement. No one posted a response to the scream, so... no one responded. All others will be ignored. This post occurs just before the segment of conversation in which that the man pretty much asks the party to leave.)

"Special arrangements must be made after moonset to ensure someone is present to register and verify the goods being dropped off. However, I assure you that that this building is well-secured at all times."

(scream)

"At times the merchandise of some of these merchants can be a little less than agreeable. I'm sure everyone is alright."

I appreciate the more in depth review of the book.

I'm actually surprised how many positive comments I've gotten on the pages and they way it was printed. I guess I have the printing company to thank for that. All I requested was the paper type (60# gloss by the way).

If anyone else wants to order the book feel free either digitally or in print. And, as always, I'm alsways willing to answer questions and such about the world and anything else in the book (though some material I will leave for those who actually investigate its pages).

"Tell me where to find this mead n' meat place." The bugbear says pointing to the notice. "I gotta find somewhere to fill my gut if the gnome decides to behave himself after all."

(assuming he gets directions)

"And don't worry about me. I got no weapons to threaten the poor little refugees." then he continues under his breath "though if they wee stronger, there would be no reason to flee now would there..."

(Once the party gets through the gate...)

"Behave yourself little gnome. I'd hate to have to make good on the threat so soon. I'm heading over to this Meat n' Mead place for a bite." He calls over his shoulders as he strides confidently into the city.

(OOC: He is looking along the route and in the tavern for street fights or more organized fighting events that he might be able to make a few quick coins at.)

The man seemed confident in the door's locks, as he remains sitting and is already turning back to his work as he speaks.

"I've already told your taller friend here, and I'm assuming you have ears to listen rather than just a tongue to wag. We do not have facilities for that. This is a warehouse sir, not a shop or a carnival. Now if you have no further business please usher yourselves back the way you came."

"I apologize. I figured that since our warehouse could not support the business itself, only the storage of materials, the other questions were moot. Forgive me for the assumption." A small sneer appears on his face for a split second before vanishing once again."

"It is a warehouse district, not a marketplace sir. There are a few shops and places like the glass works near by, but over all actual shops are few and far between. I imagine that if your dwarven friends are as good at their craft as dwarves generally are, I'm sure they could find adequate business dealing with the warehouse owners and such."

"There closest smithy is a few blocks east of here, near the glassworks. Though we don't handle things like that. We are used for the storage of goods. Usually goods transferring to or from North Harbor."

He shuffles through his papers a moment, grabbing one of the pieces of parchment seemingly at random.

"If you wish, you can write your name and that of your business on this parchment. Also please record the nature of your business. A smithy was it? We don't have space, nor facilities for a forge. We could, however, store your goods or the raw ore until you need it. Though...."

He shuffles through his papers once again.

"It seems as though our warehouse is filled up until high moon tomorrow. If you care to come back then we can make all of the necessary arrangements."

At that moment you hear a cry from beyond the locked door behind him. It is a shrill cry of pain. Though you couldn't tell if was male or female, it was definitely humanoid. The man at the desk makes no reaction, seeming as if not to hear it.

The man stares at you for a few moments before speaking once again.

"Well, if you're going to stand the muttering to yourselves you should do it outside if you don't mind. I've got work to do."

He returns to his work at his desk, writing something and looking at various pieces of parchment that are strewn across his desk in his variation of "organization."

The cells themselves seem very sturdy, being solid stone as they are. The doors are iron bound oak, and in fairly good condition as far as you can tell. You see no sign of weakened wood due to rot or age.

As Heironymus searches the cell he manages to find a few slivers of metal, about as thick around as a needle. You aren't sure what they're from, but they are rather sharp.

Everyone else seems to have decided that they are relatively content to sit in a dungeon. So time passes. Two days go by as you sit in the cells. The guards show up periodically to give you each a bit of bread and water, as well as seemingly random patrols.

It is now some time during the third day. Without a clear view of the moons, you have a difficult time determining the time of day.
